1. DEMOLISH ARAB OUTPOST EAST OF JERUSALEM
by Ido Ben Porat

The Israeli Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday against an illegal Arab outpost built next to an Israeli town east of Jerusalem, giving a green light to the outpost's demolition.

The outpost, Khan al-Ahmar, was built in the 1990s on land belonging to the Israeli town of Kfar Adumim east of Jerusalem. The encampment is home to some 170 Bedouin, who have expanded the community in recent years with the aid of foreign governments.

Israeli courts approved the outpost's demolition, but in July the Supreme Court froze plans to evacuate Khan al-Ahmar, pending an appeal by residents.

Israeli security forces had been preparing for the planned demolition, which was set to commence just hours before the court intervened.

But on Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled against the residents, rejecting their claims and clearing the way for Khan al-Ahmar's evacuation.

"It is feared that there will be large riots and violence during the demolition, especially by non-residents, given the calls on social media to come and take part in violent protests," Justice Yitzhak Amit said.

"I hope that the [demolition] orders will be carried out peacefully."

"The appeal before us is the fifth round in this saga," the three-judge panel wrote in their decision.

"In the ruing on previous appeals, we discussed the humanitarian complexities involved in the complete evacuation of the Khan al-Ahmar compound, but at the same time, there is no way to avoid carrying out the demolition orders. As difficult as an evacuation is, we can't get around the ruling, a definitive ruling made only recently."

Following the decision, the state will be able to implement the demolition orders after a one-week waiting period.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman praised the court's decision, and vowed to demolish the illegal community.

"Nobody is above the law, nobody will keep us from acting on our sovereignty and responsibility as a state," Liberman said in a statement.

2. AGUDAT YISRAEL PUSHES HAREDI UNITY AHEAD OF ELECTIONS
by Mordechai Sones

In light of the apparent decision by Degel Hatorah to compete in Jerusalem and other cities independently, Agudat Yisrael turned to Degel Hatorah this morning through the Hamodia and Hamevaser newspapers, seeking to avert division and calling for unity.

"With the power of unity, we can achieve greater achievements and best fulfill our mission," explained members of the Eighth Committee of Agudat Yisrael that met yesterday in Jerusalem.

They also warned a separate run would divide the haredi community. "A split between Agudat Yisrael and Degel Hatorah in certain cities is likely to affect other cities as well, which will harm the haredi public's unity at this time among all representatives of the haredi public, out of responsibility and commitment to sanctify the name of Heaven and not unnecessary disputes, Heaven forbid.

"The committee expressed deep hope that unity line within the ranks of Agudat Yisrael will expand beyond its borders, and that by the date for submitting candidate lists there will be full agreement with Degel Hatorah, which will allow the elections to take place in joint lists."

In their statements, they clarified there is a principled intention to follow an egalitarian plan. "In the cities where there's representation of the two factions, there have been no real changes in the composition of the haredi population such as to justify changes in the power relations between the lists or alternatively running on separate lists. Nevertheless, we proposed to Degel to compare the number of representatives in the Jerusalem city council, so there will be full equality between the two parties. So far, we've only received answers talking about a split."

The committee later called to support Yossi Deitch as Jerusalem Mayor.

3. MICHIGAN DEMOCRAT: HAMAS LEGITIMATE - ISRAEL IS THE AGGRESSOR
by David Rosenberg

The Democratic ticket in Michigan's gubernatorial race has come under fire again, after it was revealed that the nominee for Lieutenant Governor made statements condemning Israel and legitimizing the Hamas terrorist organization.

This after the gubernatorial candidate refused to denounce the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement at a meeting with voters late last month.

Last month, Michigan Democrats nominated former county prosecutor and former Minority Leader of the Michigan Senate Gretchen Whitmer for this November's gubernatorial race. Joining Whitmer on the ticket is Garlin Gilchrist, a political activist from Detroit and self-described "nonprofit leader", who is running for Lieutenant Governor.

During a town hall event in late August, Whitmer refused to condemn the anti-Israel BDS movement, avoiding the question when asked and responding only that she would defend the First Amendment right of free speech.

"I recognize the fundamental rights are that we have the right to speak," Whitmer said, according to video footage of the event obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. "No one gets to infringe on those rights on my watch."

Following Whitmer's refusal to take a stance on BDS, it was revealed that her running mate had a history of controversial statements vis-à-vis the Jewish state.

While Gilchrist, who has never held public office before, drew little attention during his primary bid, last week comments – including a statement supporting Hamas as a the 'legitimate' representative of Gaza – were unearthed.

On January 4th, 2009, Gilchrist tweeted that he was sick of politicians and Evangelical Christians "kissing Israel's ass."

"I'm suck [sic] of politicians and Evangelicals kissing Israel's ass regardless of what they do in the name of 'defense'."

Two days later, Gilchrist expressed hope that then-President Barack Obama would end the "Israel-can-do-no-wrong approach".

In a follow-up comment, Gilchrist expressed his support for the Gaza-based Hamas terror group as the 'legitimate' representative of Gaza, while condemning "Israeli aggression".

"Hamas is a legitimately elected party that only rose to power b/c of Israeli aggression & Western complicity/enablement."

Polls currently show the Whitmer-Gilchrist ticket leading Republicans Bill Schuette and Lisa Lyons for this November's election.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, the Democratic ticket holds a 9-point lead over the Republican ticket, 46% to 37%.

Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Snyder is term-limited from running for reelection.

4. 11 DEAD, HUNDREDS INJURED AS TYPHOON HITS JAPAN
by David Rosenberg

At least 11 people are dead and hundreds more injured after a typhoon hit central Japan.

Typhoon Jebi, also known as Typhoon Maymay, made landfall in the Kansai region of Japan on Tuesday, before moving up along Japan's western coast.

According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, 11 fatalities have been confirmed, with roughly 300 more injured.

Experts say Jebi is the most intense typhoon to hit Japan in at least a quarter of a century.

Millions of residents of western and central Japan remain without electricity Wednesday, after Jebi knocked out power in over 400,000 homes. Over 1.6 million homes in and around Osaka and Kyoto lost power on Tuesday.

Evacuation orders were issued for over one million residents Tuesday, and train services were cancelled in the affected areas before resuming again Tuesday evening.

The typhoon has also disrupted air travel, forcing closures at Kansai International Airport. More than 3,000 travelers were left stranded at Kansai Airport after a tanker became unmoored as a result of the typhoon and crashed into the bridge linking the airport to the mainland.

Travelers trapped at the airport were later evacuated by boat on Wednesday, after spending the night in the airport.

In addition to the 11 deaths recorded in Japan, Typhoon Jebi also killed six when it hit Taiwan on September 2nd.

5. REBUILD THE YESHIVA IN THE DAYS BEFORE ROSH HASHANAH
by L. Berman

In March 2018, a fierce inferno raged in Yeshivat Beit Yosef of Bussières, France. When the flames were finally extinguished the yeshiva, the dorms, and the housing of hundreds of avreichim were destroyed beyond repair. Miraculously, no lives were lost.

However, the yeshiva suffered such serious damage that there was no possibility of simply refurbishing the burnt buildings, instead they were razed to the ground to make space for new construction.

Now, as the Days of Awe draw nearer, the new yeshiva building is still incomplete. The Rosh Yeshivah, Rabbi Natan Yivre shlita, has expended all of his energies in raising funds for the construction so far; yet it is not enough. Yeshivat Beit Yosef is still missing a significant amount to complete the beit midrash before Rosh Hashanah.

Yeshivat Beit Yosef is one of the few Torah-true yeshivot in the whole country, and as such occupies an important role in maintaining a Jewish presence in France. Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita has written an important and lengthy letter in support of the yeshiva:

"In light of the difficult times in which the yeshiva finds itself, it is surely a very great merit to help them and to be a supporter of the holy yeshiva, who can even imagine the great merit of supporting Torah, especially such a magnificent place of Torah that has so many talmidim." Read the full text of the letter here.

With only a week left until the Day of Judgement, the avreichim and yeshiva students of Yeshivat Beit Yosef still do not have a fitting place in which to daven the holy prayers of these awesome days. An emergency fundraising campaign has been set up to raise the necessary funds to complete the building of Yeshivat Beit Yosef before the start of the New Year.

The merit of supporting Torah learning in this auspicious time is surely very great.

6. WATCH: MONICA LEWINSKY WALKS OUT OF ISRAELI CONFERENCE
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Monica Lewinsky on Monday walked out abruptly from a Hadashot TV conference, when Hadashot chief anchor Yonit Levi asked her, "Do you still expect a personal apology from President Clinton?"

"I'm so sorry, I'm not going to be able to do this," Lewinsky replied before getting up and leaving.

7. 'I AGREED TO 1967 BORDERS, DIVIDE JERUSALEM'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert praised Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in an interview with i24NEWS' Arabic program: "It's not too late to fix things. I'll call him. I think he's a great leader. I tell him now if he wants us to meet to do it together - I'm ready for that, too."

Olmert praised the security cooperation with the Plestinian Authority (PA): "The only terror that exists is in areas that Israel controls, not the Palestinian Authority, so all the Israeli security forces tell me that the Palestinian Authority is cooperating in the struggle against terror."

"I think that Abu Mazen (Abbas) - contrary to what all sorts of elements that do not really want a peace agreement between us and the Palestinians try to say - Abu Mazen was a partner, even when he made mistakes. In my case he made a serious mistake, but he was a partner and he remains a partner." the former prime minister added.

According to Olmert, Israel's repeated territorial withdrawals have strengthened the Jewish State's international standing: "The fact that Israel left territories where it controlled the lives of other people has brought tremendous prestige in the world. It creates a system of expectations for political progress and laid the foundation for negotiations between me and the Palestinian Authority on the basis of the knowledge among Palestinians that Israel is willing to withdraw from territories, that Israel is willing to accept the two-state solution."

"There was no stronger proof of our desire to implement such a solution than the negotiations I had with Abu Mazen, in which I proposed to him an Israeli withdrawal of 95 percent of the territory and a territorial exchange in order to bring the territorial arrangement to the basis of the 1967 borders.

"The plan that I proposed and I am sure that if you turn to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, he will confirm word for word what I am saying to you now: I proposed a territorial solution on the basis of the 1967 borders with a territorial exchange of 5-6%. In other words, we could have been more flexible in the future if we had finished the negotiations, but the intention was that it would be on the basis of the 1967 borders," Olmert explained.

Olmert elaborated further on the concessions he was willing to make. "I was prepared for the Arab part of Jerusalem to be the capital of the Palestinian state. For me, Beit Hanina, and the Shuafat refugee camp, Jabel Mukaber, Issawiya and all these Arab neighborhoods are part of the state of Palestine and they can be what the Palestinian leadership wanted, a declaration that Jerusalem is the Palestinian capital. That is, there is Jewish Jerusalem, which is the capital of Israel, and there are other parts that are now part of Jerusalem, which I suggested would be part of the Palestinian state."

"Another thing I suggested after deep thought and great heartache, not with joy or with great passion, but with an understanding of the inescapable reality: I suggested that the 'Holy Basin,' The entire part of Jerusalem that includes the holy sites of Christianity, Islam and Judaism, that in this part there will be no sovereignty of any country, not the sovereignty of the State of Israel, neither the sovereignty of the Palestinian state nor the sovereignty of any other entity.

Olmert said that he believes the other countries in the Middle East should be part of the agreement with the PA. "Saudi Arabia, which I believe has a great desire to bring about a political settlement in the Middle East, and I think that its current leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is making very significant efforts to create normalization in the international atmosphere of the Middle East. I think Jordan under the leadership of King Abdullah II, whom I consider both a personal friend and a great leader, along with the Palestinians, the State of Israel and the United States, should have put together this international trust that was entrusted by the UN to manage the Holy Basin. The Holy Basin - the Old City, the Mosques' Area, the Church Area, the Western Wall area - would administered with absolute freedom of access to believers of all religions but not subject to the sovereignty of any country. "

"We reached an understanding of the security needs of the State of Israel, and we presented this to both the Palestinians and the Americans, and there was full understanding of these security needs, and I agreed to solve the Arab refugee problem within the framework of the Arab League peace initiative or proposal, which was adopted once in 2002 in Beirut and the second time in 2007. In other words, I accepted the Arab peace initiative as the basis or framework for settling the refugee problem, and I also said that I would be ready to absorb about 1,000 Palestinians a year for five years as part of the Arab peace proposal."

Olmert believes that it was possible to resolve the refugee issue as well: "It could be that there was room for flexibility here with regard to the number of Palestinians we would have absorbed. Had the negotiations been completed, we would have reached this point. I offered my suggestions and put them on the table. I brought a precise map that presents the proposed borders when the Palestinian state stretches out of one-to-one areas the size of the territories that existed before 1967, and also the crossing between Israel and the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which did not exist before. I never received an answer from Mahmoud Abbas on this proposal. "

Olmert recalls how he pleaded with Abbas to accept the peace proposal: "In our conversation, a very moving conversation, and in my opinion, a historic conversation, I think a conversation like never before, and I very much hope there will be another like it, I said: "Mr. President, this is a proposal that maybe no other Israeli leader will offer you for 50 years, sign it on the map!" He said, 'Give me a few days, and he did not get back to me."

Olmert slammed the current government of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. "I am very worried that Netanyahu's positions are different, but if Abu Mazen says he supports this plan, it will be a message of tremendous strength to millions of Israelis who have doubts about whether they have a Palestinian leadership willing to make an arrangement. If the current Israeli government wants to reach an agreement that can be reached, but they also have doubts about the Palestinian willingness, if Abu Mazen announces now, "I am willing to come to negotiate to complete the negotiations that began with Israeli Prime Minister Olmert, Ehud Olmert, 'it will cause a tremendous shock in the State of Israel. Do it! "

Olmert explained why he believes Netanyahu cannot lead Israel: "I think that Binyamin Netanyahu can not run the country - not because of the investigations, but because he is not suited to running the state, because his positions on the crucial issues of the State of Israel are positions that do not correspond with my understanding, and the understanding of many others, of the real interests of the State of Israel. I think that he is leading the State of Israel to an eternal conflict between us and the Arab world and the Palestinian world. "

Olmert says that he believes that there will be a change in Israeli society. "We, the residents of the State of Israel, are convinced that we will eventually change this direction. We will change the leadership and change this direction. It's not a matter of asking for help from someone outside. We will not turn to an outside party and say, 'Come help us.' We will know how to do it. We will change the direction, we will work to make peace, we will have full equality of rights between all the residents of the State of Israel. The State of Israel will be a democratic, Jewish state, not a conqueror, but a state that makes peace, maintains a way of life that brings blessing and joy to its residents and neighbors "

On the Nationality Law, Olmert said: "What do I think of the recent laws, which in my opinion are intolerable laws, they undermine the moral value of the State of Israel and must be annulled."

8. SYRIA BLAMES ISRAEL FOR EXPLOSIONS NEAR HAMA
by Gary Willig

Explosions were reported near the city of Hama in northwestern Syria Tuesday evening.

The explosions reportedly occurred near military targets belonging to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad.

Assad-affiliated media blamed Israel for the explosions and stated that the Syrian military thwarted an Israeli missile strike near Idlib, also in Northwestern Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said that Israeli planes targeted several Iranian military positions in the provinces of Hama and Tartus.
