1. 'PICKING PRIME MINISTER CAN'T BE LEFT TO THE PRESIDENT'
by Hezki Baruch

Knesset Member Amir Ohana (Likud) said Wednesday he understands the fear in the Prime Minister's coterie that President Reuven Rivlin will refuse to tap Netanyahu to form the next government with the possibility of an indictment hanging over the premier.

"I don't know if there's truth in reports that the Prime Minister wants to postpone elections out of fear the President will place the task of forming the government on someone else; that sounds unreal and absurd," says Ohana, but stresses "the procedure by which the President imposes formation of the government on those who, in his opinion, have the best chance, leaves too much room for discretion and may lead to absurd situations."

Ohana supports the proposal of coalition chairman Dudi Amsalem (Likud) to change the law so the task of forming the government will be assigned to the head of the largest party. "We mustn't leave room for ambiguity and uncertainty and to foist the State's fate on the President. The President performs an emblematic and not an executive role; it's not his job to decide fate."

Is it because of the murky relations between Netanyahu and Rivlin that the law should be changed?

"This week we interviewed the President and the Prime Minister together and I won't say there's any great love there, but I think relations between them are normal. If the President imposes someone other than the one heading the largest party, it's absurd and the public won't accept it."

How do you respond to the Supreme Court Chief Justice who said there are Knesset Members who incite against judges?

"It's a well-known tactic of the legal system and the legal advisors to preserve the unlimited, vast, and concentrated power that they've accumulated and paint those who try to balance and bring more democracy and the voice of the people and mark them as an enemy of the rule of law. We'll restore democracy and the balance between the authorities that don't exist today."

2. TERRORIST NABBED EN ROUTE TO JERUSALEM
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Israeli police arrested a suspected terrorist en route to Jerusalem Wednesday morning, amid suspicions he was planning an imminent attack in the capital.

Police apprehended the suspect on Highway 1, the main transportation artery linking Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of eastern Jerusalem in his 20s.

Authorities say the suspect had in his possession a suspicious package at the time of his arrest. A police bomb squad has been called to assess whether the package poses any threats.

Police closed traffic on east-bound Highway 1 from Shoresh junction due to the arrest and concerns regarding the suspicious package.

3. HARRY POTTER MOVE OVER!
by Mordechai Sones

Popular author, filmmaker, and blogger, Tzvi Fishman, has come out with two new sequels to his novel, Tevye in the Promised Land. Already available at Amazon Books, the new novels will reach bookstores in Israel in another two weeks. Busy at work on the fourth volume of the series, Tzvi took time to speak to Arutz Sheva.

Before we talk about the new books in the "Tevye in the Promised Land" series, tell us what made you write the original novel?

I saw the movie Fiddler on the Roof when I was twenty. At the time, I was a completely assimilated American Jew. Because of my almost non-existent familiarity with Judaism, the movie blew me away. It was the first time I saw something Jewish on the Big Screen. Like everyone else, I fell in love with the character of Tevye. When I came on Aliyah, I felt bad that he was still stuck in the Diaspora, so I wrote the novel, Tevye in the Promised Land, which brings him and his daughters to the Eretz Yisrael, where they become pioneer builders of the Land.

If I remember correctly, it wasn't your first novel. Share with us a little about you writing background.

You could say that my writing career started in high school. I attended a very prestigious New England boarding school called Philips Andover Academy. It was a very competitive, success-oriented institution. One of the few Jews at the school, I found myself totally out of place. I sought refuge in the photography darkroom and in writing short stories. Among a class of 200 graduates, 70 were accepted by Harvard and another 50 by Yale. I decided to spend my four years of college in the dark, watching movies at the New York University Film School. In addition to learning how to make movies, I started to write a novel. Dell Publishers bought the book, a family saga about a Jewish family that turns a Caribbean island into a booming tourist haven. Then I wrote a screenplay that became a successful movie with some of America's leading stars.

What's the name of the film?

Law and Disorder, which starred Carroll O'Conner of Archie Bunker fame. I moved to Hollywood and sold another three scripts before Hashem came into my life in a miraculous fashion and lifted me out of my fantasy world. He opened my eyes to understand that there was a dream far more meaningful than madly chasing after the American Dream of Fame and Success – the age-old Jewish Dream of Returning to Zion. You can read all the details in my bio on Amazon Books.

I moved back to New York City in the early stages of my t'shuva and taught screenwriter for a few years at the New York University School of the Arts. A song of "The Doors" became my mantra as I struggled to escape the web of my American identity: Break on through, break on through, break on through to the other side! For me it meant breaking on through to the Promised Land. "Break on Through" became the name of my radio show when Arutz Sheva - Israel National News first started to broadcast from the "Eretz HaTzvi" ship at sea.

Fishman in Hollywood
Tzvi Fishman
After finishing the manuscript for Tevye in the Promised Land, you published the novel in Israel. Why not with Dell Publishers in New York?

I tried. I sent the manuscript to my literary agent, and he sent it out to a list of publishers. They all had the same response – "Too Jewish." Imagine a book editor calling a James Clavell novel about Japan, "Too Japanese." What they meant was that the world is ready to love a Jew like Tevye when he is getting hit over the head by Cossacks, and when he shrugs in impotent resignation when his daughter intermarries. But in the liberal world of New York publishing, the time hasn't come for a Tevye who fights back. As a producer once said to me in Hollywood, "I'll never make a movie where the hero is a Jew."

In your two new novels, "Arise and Shine!" and "The Lion's Roar," Tevye becomes a leader of the underground rebellion against British forces in Palestine. Not every reader is going to like the change from beloved milkman to passionate freedom fighter.

In building a new life in the Promised Land, Tevye is forced to undergo a profound personal transformation, just like the Jewish Nation itself underwent a miraculous transformation from being an oppressed and lowly People in alien Gentile lands to becoming a powerful independent Nation in its own eternal Homeland.

In your preface to "Arise and Shine!" you call the blend of history and fiction, "Histortion" and "Fictory." Did you invent this literary mix?

Not at all. There a dozens of historical novels. Homer employed the technique. So did Shakespeare, and Tolstoy in "War and Peace." In modern times, several of the novels of Herman Wouk and Leon Uris are based on modern history. The movie, "Forrest Gump" is another example of the style.

Why did you decide to write a series of novels, and not end with Tevye's heroic exploits in the Hebrew Brigade at the end of the first novel? I understand you plan to write another two volumes, bringing the Zionist adventure up till the War of Independence.

Bezrat Hashem. I decided to write the sequels because Zionist history continues. In addition, hundreds of people asked me when I was going to publish a sequel. It took me twenty years to get around to resuming the saga, but I am glad that I did. Raising seven children in Israel, I discovered that the story of Modern Zionism and the establishment of the State of Israel had been taught for decades from a Leftist point-of-view. For instance, most people assume that Ben Gurion started the Haganah, when, in fact, its first commander was Ze'ev Jabotinsky. And many pivotal events of Zionist History, for example, the truths behind the Arlozorov Murder and the sinking of the Altalena were purposefully distorted and even falsified in order to fit the propaganda of the political Left in their Bolshevistic efforts to maintain control over the Yishuv (Jewish settlement in Israel).

In volume three of the series, "The Lion's Roar," it's pretty clear that Ben Gurion is cast in the role of the bad guy.

I'd call him an anti-hero. After all, the Almighty chose him to be a key player in the establishment of the State, even though his methods weren't always the most kosher. But, yes, in terms of drama and plot structure, in telling a suspenseful story, you need heroes and villains.

Your novels are certainly filled with exciting, larger-than-life characters. You succeeded in making the key personalities of Zionism come alive on the page.

When my children studied for their Bagrut high-school exams in Modern Israel History, I realized how shallow the curriculum was, and how often distorted, even after Rightest governments in Israel began to head the Education Ministry. The fact that many streets and parks in Israel are now named after Revisionist heroes only occurred after the Likud rose to power. For years, the heroes of the Irgun and Lehi were portrayed as thugs, rather than the great freedom fighters they were in the battle for Israeli independence. Even when new textbooks were written which portrayed figures like Jabotinsky, Avraham Stern, Abba Achimeir, and Uri Zvi Greenberg in a positive light, it was done in a superficial fashion, without highlighting the great passion of their personalities and the depth and breadth of their vision. I tried my best to capture their towering spirits and their love for the Jewish People and Eretz Yisrael. Also, in the case of Rabbi Kook, history books and textbooks mentioned him now and then, but they ignored the central role he played as the guiding light behind the entire revival and rebirth of the Hebrew Nation in Zion.

There's quite a lot of romance in the two sequels, "Arise and Shine!" and "The Lion's Roar." What's the reason?

Everyone enjoys a good love story. As a novelist, I have the obligation to spin an entertaining yarn. There was a lot of romance in "Tevye in the Promised Land" as well. Love is an important part of life. Also, through the ups and downs of romance, readers come to know characters in an intimate fashion. In his writings on "Shir HaShirim," Rabbi Kook says that dealing with the subject of love in literature is an important way to unlock the mysteries of man's psyche. Of course, he stresses, that it must be done in a kosher fashion without the drunkenness and unbridled passions which love can often stir.

How much of the romantic encounters in the novels dealing with Arvraham Stern and Ben Gurion are based on truth?

I did a great amount of historical research in order to paint a convincing background canvas. Both Stern and Ben Gurion were prolific letter writers, so there is plenty of material from which to draw. Of course, Stern didn't marry Tevye's granddaughter – that's where creative freedom enters the picture, in order to keep Tevye's family in the heart of the saga.

You have also incorporated the poems, songs, and ideological writings of the era as forces that tangibly influenced the rebirth of the Nation and even fueled the rebellion against the British.

The written word can be as powerful as tanks. Ze'ev Jabotinsky, Avraham Stern, Uri Zvi Greenberg, Abba Achimeir, and many other leaders of the revolt understood this. Their writings show the great depth of their characters. The members of the Stern Gang were very far from being gangsters, as the British Mandate Authorities, and the socialist political parties and newspapers tried to portray them. They were fierce idealists filled with a sacred, national vision, ready to sacrifice everything for Hebrew independence, even when they were hunted and betrayed by their brothers on the Left, who clung to a misguided course of appeasement and concession toward the British, until even they realized that settlement and economic development weren't enough to establish a Jewish State in Palestine, but that armed struggle was required as well.

Indeed, it was refreshing to read a book with an unabashed Rightest point-of-view. Aren't you afraid that the political Left in Israel will boycott the book?

Let them boycott the book. Though Rabbi Kook's writings drew fierce opposition from religious zealots of the old school of thought, he stressed that the truth must be told, even if there are people at the moment who are not able or willing to understand it.

When can we expect to see a movie, or a TV series based on the novels?

Either when the Mashiach comes, or when the Likud starts acting like the Right is in power. Still today, government funding to produce Israeli films remains in the hands of the Left, just as it was in the beginnings of the State when the Left was in power. I applied for a grant to turn "Tevye in the Promised Land" into a TV series, but the government-sponsored film funds rejected my proposal. Too Zionist. Too patriotic. Too national-religious. If I did a film about Tevye immigrating to America, I probably could win a film grant for that, especially if one grandchild had a same-gender partner and another married out of the faith. In the meantime, Baruch Hashem, we have the series of books. I'm very thankful for that.

4. RABBANIT TRAVELED TO ARGENTINA, WAS SHOCKED BY WHAT SHE FOUND
by Sponsored Content

Rabbanit Kolodetsky, daughter of Rav Chaim Kanievsky and guide to the Jewish People in her own right, often travels the world to inspire women with words of Torah. On a recent trip to Argentina, however, she heard a story which shocked her.

Nurit Laniado was abandoned by her parents at just 12-years-old. Kicked out of her home and passed from foster family to foster family, she suffered unspeakably. Now she is engaged to be married to an Israeli young man, but has no family to help her prepare for her family. The girl cried out of desperation on the Rabbanit's shoulder, and Rabbanit Kolodetsky took it upon herself to do what she could to save this special young lady.

Kolodetsky penned an emotional letter to the public, and released a video where she speaks of how impressed she was by young Nurit: "A tzadeket with a true fear of Heaven … She was passed from family to family and still managed to maintain her yirat shamayim."

"They are getting married without a shekel to their name," she says in her address to the Jewish People. "Whatever you give, you will get back 1000 times."

They are strong, striking words from a truly respected member of klal yisrael. Rav Chaim himself has also gotten involved, calling the kallah a "true orphan," and saying that it is a "great mitzvah" to help her. Nurit's kallah fund paints a heartbreaking story:

"I am not asking for I am not asking for anything that a girl with parents wouldn't get … the things you might think are basic but that I dream of affording: like a fridge, an oven, food for shabbat and the chagim."

It is an understandable request, from a girl who truly has nothing. Nurit may have been abandoned by her parents, but she has been adopted by the gedolim. Though she cries herself to sleep each night, strangers around the world have the opportunity to join the Kanievsky family in making her dreams come true.

5. 'I WANT ISRAEL TO BE THE HOME OF EVERY JEW'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman addressed the closing session of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) General Assembly Wednesday in Tel Aviv.

Under the headline 'We Need to Talk', this year's JFNA General Assembly highlighted tensions between the State of Israel and American Jewish leaders.

Speaking Wednesday afternoon, Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed US-Israel ties, describing with satisfaction the strengthening of the relationship between the two countries he has observed since first entering politics in the 1980s.

"There's no question it's gotten a lot stronger," said Netanyahu, citing polling over the years, showing an increase in overall support for the Jewish state among the American public.

"When you look at the numbers, it's quite startling," regarding Americans' perceptions of the Jewish state.

The Israeli premier touted President Donald Trump's decision to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem, calling the move a high-point in US-Israel relations.

"He did something unbelievable. This is something that we've dreamed about since the founding of Israel, and he did it."

"I would say that the state of the American-Israeli relationship - the alliance, has never been stronger."

But, Netanyahu added, Israel must work to expand outreach among demographic groups where support for the Jewish state is weakest, listing off "African Americans, Hispanics, young people".

"Things are never as good as you think – but they're also never as bad as you fear," the Prime Minister continued, playing down perceptions of a left-wing backlash against Israel and Zionism in the US.

Turning to relations between Israel and the American Jewish community, Netanyahu said he was working to promote the vision of Israel as a 'home for all Jews'.

"I want Israel to be the home of every Jew. I don't care if they're Orthodox, Reform, Conservative, or completely secular."

Netanyahu responded to claims from some in the American Jewish community that his government's stance on "core issues" of religion and state were challenges to Israeli democracy.

The Prime Minister explained that his government's policies on issues like conversion to Judaism, recognition of the Reform Movement, the Sabbath in the public sphere, and non-Orthodox prayer at the Western Wall were part of a long-standing tradition in Israel politics of dealing with religion-and-state issues piecemeal.

These policies are part of "slowly evolving arrangements," said Netanyahu, adding that the primary driver for change was "the evolution of the Israeli electorate," alluding to demographic changes and the growth of the haredi population in Israel.

6. IDF REVEALS ANOTHER HEZBOLLAH POSITION UNDER AGRI ORG AUSPICES
by Mordechai Sones

The IDF has revealed another Hezbollah position under the auspices of the "Green Without Borders" agricultural front organization.

"Hezbollah violates Resolution 1701 on a regular basis, operating in the area south of the Litani River, using civilian camouflage and reinforcing military capabilities in the rural areas of the Shi'ite villages in violation of UN resolution," the IDF said.

Hezbollah uses Green Without Boundaries as a front for operations in the contact zone and establishes observation posts for gathering information about IDF troop movements.

In the past year, the IDF has been closely monitoring Hezbollah observation posts located along the contact zone under Green Without Borders Association auspices.

Hezbollah forward observation posts revealed by IDF
IDF Spokesman
In 2017 five positions were exposed, and an additional one has now been exposed aimed at deepening the terror organization's intelligence and strategic picture.

"This is a violation of UN Resolution 1701 at the end of the Second Lebanon War," says the IDF.

"Resolution 1701 states the presence of any armed group is prohibited except for the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River. The Hezbollah terrorist organization regularly violates this Resolution, advances on the fence while armed, attacks Israeli territory, and establishes military infrastructure near the border, all under the guise of a fictitious environmental association. In addition, it bases its military capabilities in Shiite villages in southern Lebanon.

"Hezbollah acts as one who thinks the IDF is unaware of its activities, prevents UN forces in the area from inspecting these positions, claiming it is a private area and thus preventing any scrutiny of the violation of Resolution 1701.

"The IDF regularly monitors Hezbollah activities as it has shown recently, and is aware of this activity and of other activities," the IDF Spokesman concluded.

7. 'WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THE JORDANIAN DECLARATION'
by Shimon Cohen

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely responded to Jordanian King Abdullah's refusal to continue leasing the agricultural regions of the Arava and Naharayim to Israel as set out in the appendix to the peace agreement.

In an interview with Arutz Sheva, Hotovely explained the motive behind the move: "We know the background to the decision, Ninety Jordanian MPs demanded this and wanted to insist on their rights under the peace agreement with us."

"This is evidence of Abdullah's weakness vis-a-vis the internal Jordanian pressure. He is in deep domestic distress, but we will have to preserve the Israeli interest. There is a peace agreement that includes a lot of cooperation in a space that meets the Arab world's struggle against the Iranian enemy, We must also remember the considerable economic problems that Jordan needs to have addressed, including the water issue, and in general the Jordanian interest is greater than the Israeli one without spoiling the relationship."

Despite all this, the deputy minister was cautious when asked if it means that Israel will not be satisfied with discussions and talks with the Jordanians, but will even threaten or place Jordanian interests at the table. Hotovely noted that "at this moment, there is a total blackout on our ability to talk about it publicly. Prime Minister Netanyahu consulted the Jordanian ambassador and relevant officials at the Foreign Ministry. I am up to date but can not share with the public the direction where things will go, but we can say that we will not accept the Jordanian declaration as it is. We will strive to change when our favorite is to restore the situation as it has been throughout the years. There will be consultations within Israel as well as with the Jordanians."

As for the possibility of Israeli compensation that may allow the king to soften his position, Hotovely said: "I do not think that the discourse is now a discourse of compensation. It is in both sides' interest to preserve the peace agreement and there is a price for the Jordanian side's decision not to act in the spirit of the agreement and to do something that is unacceptable. It is worth waiting for the next two weeks in which the discussions will take place. "

Has the Israeli government failed failed? It was known that this day would come and there was a need to prepare for it. Hotovely does not accept the very question: "We have not waited for the last minute, the subject is known to the prime minister, and the discussions are taking place within the Foreign Ministry. I am saying that the issue is sensitive now, and we do not want to lose our options. We are leaving the matter to the Foreign Ministry, the National Security Council, and the Prime Minister's office."

8. REPORT: BODY PARTS OF SLAIN SAUDI JOURNALIST FOUND
by Gary Willig

The body parts of missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi have been found, British media reported.

Khashoggi has been missing since October 2, when he was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The Turkish government has accused Saudi Arabia of murdering the dissident journalist and chopping his body into pieces.

Sky News reported that Khashoggi's remains were found "cut up" with the face "disfigured."

According to one source, the remains were found in a garden at the home of the Saudi consul general.

Dogu Perincek, a leader of the Turkish Rodina party in the opposition, told Haberler that Khashoggi's remains were found in a well at the Saudi consulate.

Saudi Arabia has come under heavy criticism for the killing of Khashaggi. The Gulf State admitted for the first time on Friday that Khashoggi was killed after entering its consulate in Istanbul.

A report on Saudi Arabia's state-owned television channel said that Khashoggi was murdered at the consulate earlier this month after a brawl broke out. According to the report, the meeting "did not go as required and developed in a negative way, leading to a fight and a quarrel."

US President Donald Trump made clear on Saturday that he is "not satisfied" with Saudi Arabia's account of Khashoggi's death, adding that sanctions were a possibility.

1. TERROR ATTACK FOILED IN HEVRON
by Kobi Finkler

A terror attack was foiled outside of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hevron Tuesday afternoon, a day after a similar attack was carried out nearby.

The terrorist, a 17-year-old Palestinian Authority resident, approached the entrance of the Tomb of the Patriarchs Tuesday, while carrying a knife concealed on his person.

After the terrorist set off a metal detector at the entrance, Israeli Border Police officers stationed at the entrance ordered him to remove any items he was carrying in his pockets.

When the metal detector was again set off despite the terrorist having emptied his pockets, Border Police officers instructed him to lift up his shirt, so that they could verify that he was not carrying a concealed weapon.

But the terrorist refused the order, instead drawing the knife he had concealed and lunging at several Border Police officers.

Officers on the scene pointed their weapons at the terrorist and were ultimately able to take him into custody without opening fire.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

"The officers managed to prevent an apparent attempt to sneak the knife into the Cave of the Patriarchs and carry out a stabbing attack," a Border Police spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon.

"The officers' alertness and rapid response brought a quick end to the incident, with no injuries."

The terrorist was placed under arrest and transferred for interrogation.

On Monday, an Arab terrorist stabbed an Israeli soldier in Hevron, between the Israeli neighborhood of Avraham Avinu and the Tomb of the Patriarchs.

One soldier was lightly wounded in the attack, and was treated at the scene by emergency medical teams before being evacuated to the hospital for further treatment.

The terrorist was shot and killed at the scene.

2. KUSHNER: TRUMP IS A REALLY GREAT GRANDFATHER TO MY KIDS
by David Rosenberg

[youtube:2048647]

President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner opened up about his time in the White House, as well as his children's relationship with their grandfather, during an interview with CNN Monday.

Speaking with CNN's Van Jones in a wide-ranging interview in New York City, the president's 37-year-old son-in-law spent most of the 45 minutes discussing policy issues, ranging from criminal justice reform to the US' relationship with the Saudi government following the death of a dissident journalist at the Saudi consulate in Ankara recently.

The talk did stray from policy, on occasion, however, touching on personal matters involving Kushner's wife, the couple's three children, and his family's relationship with President Trump.

Kushner said that while the 'challenges' of having both his wife and himself working full-time in the White House were 'big strain' on the family of five, Ivanka was able to make the balance between professional and family life.

"Anyone with Ivanka would be a 'power couple'. She's really amazing. When we started dating, I told her that if I wasn't so attracted to her, she would be my best friend.

"Ivanka's brilliant… Working together has given me an even greater appreciation for how effective she is with everything she does.

"It's obviously challenging enough having one parent working in the White House; having two parents in the White House is a big strain, obviously for the family, but she does a great job balancing it.

"The kids, they've been great about it too."

Kushner also lauded President Trump's relationship with his children and grandchildren.

"He's a great father to his children and a really great grandfather."

"We work very long hours in the White House and early on my kids would come over to visit me for dinner some nights when I'd be staying late and he heard that they were there and I didn't bring them by and he said, 'What's going on?' So every time they're there I make sure I bring them by the office."

Kushner also detailed how Trump enjoys pampering the grandkids with treats Ivanka doesn't give them at home.

"He has a little candy drawer where he knows how to makes sure they get stuff their mom won't let them have. He really loves his family and he gets a lot of pleasure out of that."

3. JERUSALEM-TEL AVIV TRAIN LINE HIT BY NEW WAVE OF CANCELLATIONS
by David Rosenberg

The newly-opened Jerusalem-Tel Aviv high-speed train line continues to suffer from technical malfunctions and maintenance delays, less than a month after the line's inaugural run.

On Tuesday morning, two departures were cancelled amid technical malfunctions in two separate trains.

The rail line, originally slated to open on March 30th, was inaugurated on September 25th, though only the Jerusalem-Ben Gurion segment – linking the capital with Israel's largest international airport – is currently operational. Passengers heading to Tel Aviv must transfer at the airport.

Since its opening, the line has suffered from numerous technical problems and delays in installing maintenance and monitoring equipment, forcing multiple train cancellations.

Earlier this month, a Jerusalem-bound train stopped mid-journey, and was stuck inside a tunnel for well over an hour. Another train halted following a power failure on the tracks.

Days after these two incidents, Israel Railways was forced to cancel four train departures.

Under fire for the line's repeated failures, last week Transportation Ministry Director Keren Terner explained the decision to open the new train line last month, despite the fact that work was not yet completed, Hahadashot reported.

"The project had already been delayed by months, it could be delayed for years, and if we don't push to stick to the [opening] date for the train, it could have taken another 15 years."

On Tuesday, the high-speed Jerusalem-Tel Aviv train line ran with limited service, after two trains set to depart from Jerusalem's Yitzhak Navon Station were found to be malfunctioning.

The technical problems reduced the frequency of trains Tuesday morning to just once every hour.

4. PM MEETS CHINESE VP: 'MOST IMPORTANT CHINESE VISIT IN 18 YEARS'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara on Monday welcomed Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan at the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem, where he signed the guestbook.

"Welcome to Israel. This the most important visit by a Chinese leader in the last 18 years," Netanyahu told the Chinese VP. "It's a sign of our growing friendship. The fact that the Vice President of China came to Israel at my invitation for the Prime Minister's Innovation Conference is a tremendous compliment to Israel and a reflection of the growing ties between China and Israel. And I look forward to our discussions."

Prime Minister Netanyahu and Chinese Vice President Qishan – who is the most senior Chinese official to have visited Israel in the past 18 years – then held a working dinner together with their entourages.

Present for the Israeli side were: Prime Minister Netanyahu, Economy and Industry Minister Eli Cohen, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, National Security Council Director Meir Ben-Shabbat, Prime Minister's Office Acting Director General and head of the Prime Minister's staff Yoav Horowitz, National Economic Council Chairman Avi Simhon, Israeli Ambassador to China Zvi Hefetz and other senior officials.

Present for the Chinese side were: Vice President Qishan, Science and Technology Minister Wang Zhigang, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Yucheng, Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming, Chinese Ambassador to Israel Zhan Yongxin and other senior officials.

Chinese Vice President Qishan arrived in Israel earlier today with a delegation of minister and deputy ministers from approximately 13 ministries for an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Netanyahu.

The Prime Minister and the Chinese Vice President will chair the fourth meeting of the Israel-China Innovation Conference in a G2G format at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, 24 October. Eight joint agreements are due to be signed at the conference in science and technology, life sciences, innovation, digital health and agriculture. The Prime Minister and the Chinese Vice President will sign the conference's new multi-year plan. The innovation conference meets annually alternatively in Jerusalem and Beijing and – inter alia – advances cooperation between government officials from Israel and China, joint projects involving the private sector, joint research in science and industry, and grants scholarships for Israeli and Chinese students.

The Chinese Vice President will also be the Prime Minister's guest of honor at the Prime Minister's Innovation Conference. The two will also dedicate the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation.

5. WATCH: RACIST TIRADE ON LONDON FLIGHT GOES VIRAL
by Arutz Sheva Staff

A dispute which developed into a racist tirade on a recent flight to London drew international attention, after footage of the incident went viral on social media outlets.

During the incident, an elderly black woman returning home to the UK from a vacation abroad was harangued by a fellow passenger who was trying to reach his seat next to the woman.

The incident occurred on Ryanair flight FR015 from Barcelona Airport to Stansted Airport in London on Monday, October 15th.

While the matter drew little attention at the time, days later a third passenger, who identified himself as David Lawrence, publicized footage he had taken of the dust-up.

In a Facebook post Friday afternoon, Lawrence released the video and criticized Ryanair's inaction during the incident.

"RACIST MAN REFUSES TO SIT NEXT TO ELDERLY BLACK WOMAN on Ryanair flight calling victim an UGLY BLACK BASTARD and Ryanair - DOES NOTHING!!!"

As passengers boarded the flight, 77-year-old Delsie Gayle took her designated seat by the aisle.

Another passenger, who was assigned a seat by the window in the same row as Gayle, asked her to stand up so that he could take his seat.

According to Gayle's daughter, however, her arthritis made standing up and stepping aside for the other passenger difficult, and Gayle took time to let the fellow traveler take his seat.

Rather than take the delay in stride, the male passenger launched into a tirade against Gayle. When Gayle's 53-year-old daughter tried to defend her mother, the passenger began hurling racial epithets.

I don't care whether she's f***ing disabled or not – if I tell her to get out, she gets out," the passenger said, calling Gayle an "ugly black bastard".

"Don't talk to me in a foreign language, you stupid ugly cow," the passenger continued, after he heard Gayle muttering in response to his attacks.

Ultimately a Ryanair crew member intervened and the flight took off as scheduled, despite initial concerns that the incident could necessitate the removal of the disruptive passenger.

But Gayle criticized the airline's response to the abusive harassment she suffered, noting that she was forced to change seats, while the male passenger stayed in his original seat.

"I feel very low. He paid a fare to go on holiday, I've paid mine, so why does he abuse me for that due to the color of my skin? He do it with me and he gets away, he'll do it to somebody else," Gayle told ITV News.

Local police said in a statement that they were investigating the incident in conjunction with Barcelona authorities.

"This incident, which we were made aware of yesterday morning, is believed to have taken place on a plane at Barcelona Airport. Essex Police takes prejudice-based crime seriously and we want all incidents to be reported. We are working closely with Ryanair and the Spanish authorities on the investigation. We would encourage anyone with information to contact us."

6. JORDAN CANCELS PART OF PEACE AGREEMENT WITH ISRAEL
by Nitsan Keidar

In a dramatic move, following a mass demonstration in Amman, Jordanian King Abdullah announced that he has decided not to extend a part in the 1994 Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty which leases regions of the Arava and Naharayim to Israel.

These are areas which Israel ceded to Jordan in the 1994 agreement. However, Jordan agreed to lease the areas to Israel so that Israeli farmers there could cultivate the land. An addendum to the agreement stipulated that the areas would be leased out for 25 years, and either party could decide not to extend the agreement with a year's advance notice.

Now, 24 years after the agreement, Jordan officially announced that it would not be extending the lease.

An official announcement was made about the move in Amman, and an identical notice was sent from the Jordanian embassy to the Israeli foreign ministry in Jerusalem.

It should be noted that recently, relations between the two countries had actually improved, with a meeting also held between Abdullah and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. This followed a period of sour relations in the wake of the incident in which an Israeli security guard at the embassy in Amman shot and killed two people after one of them tried to attack him.

8. REPORT: TRUMP WILLING TO 'GET TOUGH' ON NETANYAHU
by Gary Willig

US President Donald Trump stated that he was willing to 'get tough' on Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel's Channel 10 News reports.

The president reportedly made the statement during a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last month.

According to Channel 10 News, Macron raised the issue of the Arab-Israeli peace process and was critical of Trump for putting pressure on Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas while failing to put pressure on Netanyahu.

Trump's predecessor, former President Barack Obama, was accused of taking the opposite approach and applying pressure only on Israel to make concessions while giving the Palestinian Authority a free pass.

Trump responded that he is willing to put pressure on Netanyahu to get his peace plan presented in the coming months.

According to four diplomats who witnessed the meeting, Macron told Trump: "My impression is that Netanyahu does not really want to move forward in the peace process because he likes the status quo."

Trump reportedly responded: You know, Emmanuel - I'm very close to reaching the same conclusion."

"I was tough with the Palestinians because they would not talk to us and that's unacceptable. I gave Bibi a lot, I transferred the embassy to Jerusalem and every year we give them $ 5 billion, you know, Emmanuel - I can be tough with Bibi [about the peace plan], like I was tough with the Palestinians."

A senior White House official told Channel 10 News in response: "The president believes that Prime Minister Netanyahu is committed to trying to reach a comprehensive and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians."

1. WILL TRUMP RECOGNIZE JERUSALEM ALSO AS CAPITAL OF 'PALESTINE?'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

A senior Israeli political source estimates to a Yediot Aharonot reporter that if the results of the midterm elections in the US lead to a weakening of the Republicans, the pressure on US President Donald Trump to reach a political settlement between Israel and the PA will increase.

The Israeli concern, he says, includes the possibility that Jerusalem will be included in the American political proposal. This could mean defining "East Jerusalem" as the capital of a future Palestinian state parallel to the recognition already given to "West Jerusalem" as the capital of Israel.

"Trump wants a deal and he's very serious," says the source. "As far as the Americans are concerned, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is relatively easy to solve and is 'ripe fruit.'"

Netanyahu would not be able to agree to such a plan which includes Jerusalem, so he would likely seek to postpone publication until after the elections in Israel, so that the matter doesn't lead to a coalition crisis with his government partners. The Israeli goal is to leave the PA and Abbas in the position of the refuser, since Trump is expected to exert most of the pressure on the party which rejects his proposal.

According to Yediot Aharonot, the US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, and other officials will work with the American president to prevent the publication of a plan that includes the inclusion of Jerusalem in the proposed political settlement.

2. 'YOU EXPECT A CHILD NOT TO PROTECT HIS PARENTS?'
by Hezki Baruch

Culture Minister Miri Regev referred to the postponement in evacuating the illegal Bedouin outpost Khan al-Ahmar on her way into this morning's cabinet meeting.

"I believe that just as the Prime Minister promised, this village will be evacuated. There's no reason why the village shouldn't be evacuated after the Supreme Court ruling," Regev said.

Regev estimated the government would approve the Cultural Faithfulness Law she seeks to promote, and rejected the description of the law to be brought to vote as a "softened version". "It's not a softened version, it's an excellent version. The law will draw a very clear line between freedom of expression and freedom of incitement. The time has come for cultural institutions to understand: Freedom of art - yes, freedom of expression - yes, freedom of incitement - absolutely not."

The Culture Minister also referred to the sharp exchanges between the son of the Prime Minister Yair Netanyahu and television host Ofira Asayag.

Regev said she would not have responded had the subject not been the Prime Minister's son: "Red lines were crossed. She has to be the responsible adult, what do you expect from a child whose parents are attacked all the time; who wouldn't protect his parents?"

Regev personally attacked Asayag and said, "Why talk about the Prime Minister's family? She's just a bad woman. Why talk about Sara Netanyahu? You want to criticize the Prime Minister? Excellent. Don't talk about the family."

3. DOCUMENTS PROVING YEMENITE IMMIGRANTS' PROPERTY THEFT REVEALED
by Mordechai Sones

Newspaper Yisrael Hayom today presents documents attesting to the theft of the Yemenite Jews' property after they immigrated to Israel in the 1950s.

Publication of the documents comes two days before a special Knesset committee session headed by Knesset Member Nurit Koren (Likud) to discuss the issue of the immigrants' property theft by government officials. This is so it will be possible to determine how the State will be able to compensate the immigrants.

The newspaper reports that among the many documents, for example, is a list of property belonging to immigrants who arrived on at least two ships - the Lutsa and Locke, proving that the property was transferred to Israel and was under Jewish Agency responsibility.

Additional documents attest to correspondence between various government authorities and family members who came to Jewish Agency offices demanding return of their property. For example, on September 11, 1950, Jewish Agency Yemenite Immigrants Absorption Department member Chaim Tzadok wrote to Yitzhak Raphael of the Jewish Agency Immigration Department: "From the beginning of the last immigration from Yemen ... immigrants come and complain about loss of their belongings, unable to determine where they were stolen ... At the same time, many objects belonging to immigrants that they weren't allowed to take were gathered in Hashad and Jewish Agency offices in Aden, with the promise that nothing would happen to the objects and that they'd reach the Land of Israel..."

Also appearing in the documents: "We now have people announcing that they find in a storeroom in Jaffa their bags and suitcases open, with many objects missing ... ... This affair requires, in my opinion, an investigation into what happened to the objects in Hashad and Aden ...This week I visited a warehouse in Jaffa ... There it was told to me that Foreign Ministry officials collect the important and valuable holy books (even when the owners names are written on them) into special boxes and move them away; I don't know if this is justified, that they take private books."

In a letter written by Foreign Affairs Minister Moshe Sharett to the Religious Affairs Minister on July 9, 1950, he warns that this is a treasure of historical value and demands that it be treated accordingly. "This is a ship that reached the shore of Eilat and unloaded 300 Torah scrolls from the Yemenite exile ... I have no doubt that the Religious Affairs Ministry is the only institution authorized to deal with this treasure and bring it to its proper resting place. It is presumed that there are ancient scrolls among the Torah scrolls worthy of special protection."

The newspaper quotes the remarks of Committee Chairwoman MK Koren, prior to the Committee's discussion: "It's not enough that they kidnapped the Yemenite immigrants' children - they also robbed them of their property. Torah scrolls and ancient religious objects and handmade gold jewelry hundreds of years old were distributed among state institutions at the time and were sold to merchants on the grounds that the objects had no owners - and they even set up committees to discuss how and if they'd return the property to the Yemenites. Those innocent Yemenites gave all their possessions because they believed the Jewish Agency and JDC officials who told them the plane couldn't take off with the weight of the property and that they'd receive everything in the country ... There was organized crime here under the auspices of the State."

The newspaper also quoted the Jewish Agency's response: "The issue is painful and it's important to clarify the truth. We have cooperated and we continue to cooperate fully with the Committee. We have provided all relevant information in our possession and will continue to cooperate fully in the future, as necessary." No response was received from the Hebrew University. The response of the Joint could not be obtained.

4. WATCH: FLOOR COLLAPSE AT SOUTH CAROLINA PARTY
by Tal Polon

[twittervideo:2048543]

At least 30 people were injured after the floor of an apartment clubhouse in Clemson, South Carolina collapsed.

According to local police, the incident occurred early Sunday morning during a private party being held by a group who had rented out the clubhouse.

Clemson police chief Jimmy Dixon said that nobody was trapped under the debris from the collapse, but that 30 people had been transferred to local hospitals.

Police said they were as yet unaware of any life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

5. NETANYAHU EMPHASIZES: KHAN AL-AHMAR WILL BE EVACUATED
by Tal Polon

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu downplayed reports that he had delayed the evacuation of the illegal Bedouin outpost known as "Khan al-Ahmar."

On Saturday, sources in the Prime Minister's Office said that the government is holding off on demolishing Khan Al-Ahmar in order to "exhaust negotiations and proposals received from various sources, including some in the past few days."

The announcement came after International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda threatened that Israel could be prosecuted for war crimes if it goes ahead with the demolition. "Extensive destruction of property without military necessity and population transfers in an occupied territory constitute war crimes," she said.

She added, "I will not hesitate to take any appropriate action within the framework of my authority according to the Rome Statute" enabling the ICC to prosecute world leaders.

Speaking during a press briefing with US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Netanyahu emphasized that the evacuation of the outpost was in accordance with court ruling, and asserted that it would only be postponed for a "set, short time."

"Khan al-Ahmar will be evacuated, this is the decision of the court, this is our policy, and it will also be implemented," he said.

"Contrary to reports, I have no intention of postponing this until further notice, but for a set, short time."

"The amount of time given for trying to evacuate it with agreement will be established by the cabinet. I will convene the cabinet today, we will establish [the amount of time], it will be short, and I also believe it will be with agreement."

6. REPORT: UNDERCOVER COMMANDOS NAB BARKAN ATTACK ACCOMPLICE
by Tzvi Lev

Arab media reports say that undercover commandos nabbed a key accomplice to the terrorist responsible for the deadly shooting attack in Barkan two weeks ago.

According to reports, a joint force made up of undercover Border Police commandos and the IDF arrested the accomplice in Shweikeh, an Arab town adjoining the city of Tulkarem

The suspect allegedly provided food and assisted Ashraf Walid Suleiman Na'alowa to avoid the massive manhunt after he killed two Israelis in Barkan.

The report comes as the IDF continues its extensive manhunt after Ashraf Walid Suleiman Na'alowa, who shot and killed Kim Levengrond-Yehezkel and Ziv Hajbi in the Barkan industrial zone earlier this month. Multiple of the terrorists family and audiences have been arrested amid the hunt for the perpetrator.

On Monday, the Israeli army announced its plans to demolish Naalwa's home in the PA-controlled town of Shweika in Samaria.

Notification of the demolition plans was given to Naalwa's relatives in Shweika, an IDF spokesperson said in a statement.

"Today, October 15th 2018, the family of the terrorist who murdered Ziv Hajbi and Kim Levengrond-Yehezkel in the deadly shooting attack in the Barkan industrial area was notified of the IDF's intention to demolish his residence," the statement read.

"The IDF will continue to operate to thwart terror attacks and deter potential terrorists."

7. LIVE: ARABS RIOT ON GAZA BORDER
by Arutz Sheva

[youtube:2048524]

Two Arabs were reportedly hurt by IDF fire Friday in the Khan Younes area, after Arabs began rioting along the border fence with Israel.

Last Friday, dozens of rioters vandalized and ignited fires on the Arab side of the Kerem Shalom humanitarian crossing in Gaza.

The IDF said that the rioters damaged gas pipelines that run from Israel to Gaza and benefit Gazan residents.

"This is the second time in recent days that rioters have harmed and attempted to sabotage humanitarian efforts that Israel and other countries carry out. Hamas is responsible for everything that happens in Gaza, above and below ground," said the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.

Earlier last Friday, approximately 15,000 Palestinian Arabs participated in riots along the Gaza border. The rioters hurled pipe bombs, rocks, and grenades, sabotaged security infrastructure, and burned tires.

8. TRUMP TO LEAVE NUCLEAR ARMS TREATY WITH RUSSIA
by Ben Ariel

US President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he would be pulling out of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia.

"Russia has violated the agreement. They've been violating it for many years," Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One to leave Nevada following a campaign rally, according to CNN.

"And I don't know why President Obama didn't negotiate or pull out. And we're not going to let them violate a nuclear agreement and go out and do weapons and we're not allowed to. We're the ones that have stayed in the agreement and we've honored the agreement," he added.

"But Russia has not, unfortunately, honored the agreement. So we're going to terminate the agreement. We're gonna pull out," Trump said of the agreement, which was signed in December 1987 by former President Ronald Reagan and former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev.

The Trump administration has said repeatedly that Russia has violated the treaty.

Administration officials believe the treaty has put the US at a disadvantage because China does not face any constraints on developing intermediate-range nuclear missiles in the Pacific and does not allow the US to develop new weapons.

According to CNN, National Security Adviser John Bolton is expected to discuss the treaty with Russian officials on his trip next week.

In March, the State Department accused Russia of developing destabilizing nuclear weapons in violation of its treaty obligations, after Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled a new array of nuclear weapons.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Putin's speech showed Russia had violated its obligations under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty.

She also criticized an animated video played during his remarks, saying it appeared to depict an attack on the United States.

In the speech, Putin revealed that his country had tested new nuclear weapons at the end of 2017 and said Russia tested "a new intercontinental ballistic missile that can reach any point in the world."

"Russia has a missile of a kind that no country can intercept," he added.

1. UN ENVOY URGES 'RESTRAINT' AHEAD OF GAZA BORDER DEMONSTRATION
by Tal Polon

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace process, Nickolay Mladenov called for "restraint" ahead of violent demonstrations expected today along the Gaza border.

"In light of today's planned Gaza march, I urge all to exercise restraint, to proceed in a peaceful manner, and to avoid escalation," he tweeted Friday.

"The UN is working with Egypt and its partners to avoid violence, address all humanitarian issues and support reconciliation," he added.

The "March of the Return" border demonstrations have been ongoing every Friday since March 30, but in recent weeks have become more frequent. The violent demonstrations often deteriorate into full-scale riots, with demonstrators throwing grenades at IDF soldiers and burning tires.

Tensions between Israel and Hamas have escalated recently after rockets were fired into Israeli territory on Tuesday. One of them, launched towards the sea, fell off the coast of Gush Dan. Another rocket hit a residential building in Be'er Sheva.

Israel's security cabinet decided on Thursday that Israel would not yet embark on a military operation in Gaza, but would wait and respond in accordance with future developments. However, the cabinet did authorize a broader range of action available to the army in response to violent demonstrations near the fence in Gaza and those who launch terror balloons. The new directives are due to be implemented today in the face of the thousands of violent rioters expected to convene along the Gaza border.

A new report in Lebanon's Al Akhbar claimed that Egypt has told Hamas to keep rioters at least 500 meters from the border fence and to prevent them from tangling with Israeli soldiers in order to avoid an escalation with Israel. Egypt also reportedly told the terror group that the UN humanitarian projects must be given a chance to succeed.

2. VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN DEADLY CRASH NEAR DEAD SEA
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The victims of a tragic accident on Route 90 near the Dead Sea in southern Israel Thursday have been identified as 28-year-old Kfir Avitan, his wife, 28-year-old Shira Avitan, and the couple's one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Gaya.

The three were killed Thursday morning in a traffic accident involving a private car and a bus near the Neot Hakikar junction on Route 90, near the southern end of the Dead Sea.

The Avitan family resided in the town of Katzrin in the Golan Heights, and was driving down to the southern city of Eilat for a vacation.

"The community of Katzrin mourns the untimely death of Kfir, Shira, and Gaya in a terrible traffic accident," the Katzrin town council said in a statement Thursday, "and we share in the deep mourning of their families."

No details regarding the three victim's funerals have yet been released.

During the accident Thursday morning, a bus operated by the Egged company struck the Avitan family vehicle, a Renault Kangoo, roughly 1.8 miles (three kilometers) from Neot Hakikar.

The driver of the bus involved in the accident told authorities that he heard one the bus' tires blow out, and a subsequent loss of control in the steering system.

Fourteen of the passengers on the bus involved in the accident were also injured. The injured passengers were evacuated in light condition to Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva for treatment.

MDA medic Maor Leav described the scene. "When we arrived at the scene, it was shocking. We saw a bus standing by the side of the road with the passengers standing beside it. Nearby, in a ditch by the side of the road, we saw a private car upside down, smashed and crushed. Outside the car there was a baby of about a year in critical condition. Two MDA medics who had been passing by and were called to the scene through the MDA app began performing CPR."

3. REPORT: EGYPT ORDERS HAMAS TO DEFUSE BORDER RIOTS
by Tzvi Lev

A new report says that Egypt had ordered Hamas to defuse the weekly riots on the Gaza border in order to avoid an escalation with Israel.

According to Lebanon's Al Akhbar, Egypt told Hamas to keep rioters at least 500 meters from the border fence and to prevent them from tangling with Israeli soldiers. Egypt also told the terror group that the UN humanitarian projects be given a chance to succeed.

The "March of the Return" border riots have been ongoing every Friday since March 30, but in recent weeks have become more frequent.

Another rocket hit a residential building in Beer Sheva. The family members, who suffered from anxiety, were saved a few moments after the mother rushed her children with her into a bomb shelter.

Israel's security cabinet stressed on Thursday that it would decide whether to embark on a military operation in Gaza after viewing the Friday border riots. The cabinet also increased the army's scope of action in response to violent demonstrations near the fence in Gaza and also authorized more severe action against those who launch terror balloons.

Housing Minister Yoav Galant (Kulanu) warned on Thursday that Israel would begin to respond more forcefully to Hamas' provocations.

"I will not refer to the content of the cabinet discussions, but I can say one thing very explicitly - the rules of the game are about to change," Galant said.

"We will no longer accept the arson terror and the fence terror,"

4. FAMILY OF DUTCH DIPLOMAT PUNISHED FOR SAVING JEWS GETS APOLOGY
by JTA

A Dutch diplomat who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust and was punished for his actions received a long overdue apology.

The Dutch Foreign Ministry on Tuesday apologized to the family of Jan Zwartendijk, who was honorary consul of the Netherlands in what today is Lithuania during World War II, Dutch media reported.

Zwartendijk served in Kaunas as consul at the same time that Chiune Sugihara was there to represent Imperial Japan.

Largely eclipsed by Sugihara, Zwartendijk was the initiator and chief facilitator of the rescue of more than 2,000 Jews by the two diplomats. Sugihara gave the refugees, who were fleeing German occupation, transit visas that enabled them to enter the Soviet Union. But they would have been unusable had Zwartendijk not given them destination visas to Curacao, then a Caribbean island colony of the Netherlands. Some of those rescued by Zwartendijk nicknamed him "the angel of Curacao."

Both men acted without approval from their superiors. Unlike Sugihara, Zwartendijk risked his own life, as well as those of his wife and their three small children, who were all living under Nazi occupation.

Yet Zwartendijk, who died in 1976, was "given a dressing down" after his actions became known by a top Foreign Ministry official, Joseph Luns, who later became the head of NATO. The incident was revealed in a new book published about Zwartendijk, based on interviews with people who were told about it by Zwartendijk and other materials. Zwartendijk's children said their father was deeply offended by how he had been treated.

"If that happened," Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok said in a written response to Parliament on Tuesday, "that was completely inappropriate. Jan Zwartendijk earned recognition and tribute for his brave behavior, unfortunately posthumously, from the 1990s onwards."

He said he and King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands spoke with Zwartendijk's son and daughter and expressed "great admiration for the actions of their father in 1940."

5. 'IN THE FACE OF B'TSELEM'S LIES - WE BUILT'
by Hezki Baruch

Minister of Education and Chairman of the Jewish Home party Naftali Bennett toured the community of Amichai in the Binyamin Regional Council.

At the start of the tour, the minister met with the rabbi of the community, Rabbi Yair Frank, and the head of the Binyamin Regional Council, Avi Roeh, and made the "matziv gvul almana" blessing, said upon witnessing a new Jewish community built in the land of Israel, in this case for the new community established for the families evicted from Amona.

Bennett then toured among the homes of the community and the educational institutions in Amichai, and spoke with students and residents. "The people of Amichai have proved to us all that the spirit cannot be broken. They managed to grow out of the brokenness and establish a magnificent community here. From the bitterness came sweetness, and I believe that it is not far off before we return to Amona. "

"In the face of the lies of B'Tselem, we built. In the face of people who have lost hope - we believe. We believe in the future of this place, and in the future of Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria. We will continue to build, develop and grow in all parts of the land of Israel."

6. 'A DISGRACE, SUPREME COURT DECISION WAS A HUGE VICTORY FOR BDS'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri slammed the Supreme Court's ruling on Thursday permitting BDS activist Lara Alqasem to study in Hebrew University.

"The decision to leave the student who openly acts against the State of Israel in Israel is shameful," said Deri. "Where is our national honor, even in the US, would it dare to act against the state and demand that we stay and study there? I will examine how to prevent such a recurrence. "

Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan (Likud) said in response that "the Supreme Court granted a great victory to BDS this evening and emptied the law to prevent the entry of BDS activists. I am deeply saddened by the Supreme Court's decision, which attests to a complete lack of understanding of the methods of action of the BDS organizations, and has undermined the ability of the State of Israel to fight the boycott activists who harm us all."

"According to the judgment and logic of the justices, Omar Barghouti, the founder of the world BDS movement who studied at Tel Aviv University and is currently spreading hatred worldwide against Israel, was supposed to become an enthusiastic supporter of Israel due to his studies in an Israeli academic institution," continued Erdan.

"The principle must be preserved: anyone who acts to harm Israel and its citizens should not enter its gates."

MK Betzalel Smotrich also attacked the High Court following the ruling. "The Supreme Court insists on proving that the justice minister was right when she claimed that Zionism is it's dead zone, and again trampled on the authority of the government and intervened in its discretion," said Smotrich.

The court ruled Thursday evening against the state's position that Alqasem is prohibited from entering the country under Israel's anti-BDS law, which bars non-citizen supporters of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement from visiting Israel.

Alqasem, 22, had served as the chapter president of the anti-Israel group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) during her undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. SJP is known for its staunch support of the BDS movement.

Following her graduation from the University of Florida, Alqasem applied for and received a student visa from Israel, enabling her to take part in a master's degree program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Upon her arrival in Israel on October 2nd, however, Alqasem was detained by border control authorities, who barred her entry under Israel's anti-BDS law.

7. CABINET DECIDES: RESPONSE ACCORDING TO NEED

The political-security cabinet decided during the long meeting last night to adopt the line led by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and to support a military response only on the basis of developments on the ground and not on a proactive basis.

During the meeting, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman presented a plan to initiate a harsh response against Hamas. At the same time, the IDF, with the encouragement of Netanyahu, presented another plan whereby response would be according to what was happening on the ground and only if the terrorist organizations tried to attack Israel.

The cabinet ministers were instructed not to be interviewed by the media about the discussion in question, which also dealt with the indirect talks sponsored by the United Nations and Egypt vis-a-vis Hamas in Gaza to restore relative calm to the area, as was seen until March 29 this year.

Liberman, even before the discussion, said that the process of indirect contacts for calm had failed, despite repeated attempts.

However, the cabinet did increase the army's scope of action in response to violent demonstrations near the fence in Gaza, and also authorized more severe action against those who launch terror balloons. The implementation of these directives is due to take place tomorrow, when thousands of violent rioters are expected to convene along the Gaza border.

Member of the political-security cabinet Minister of Construction and Housing Yoav Galant (Kulanu), spoke Thursday about Israel's intended response to the security escalation in the south.

"I will not refer to the content of the cabinet discussions, but I can say one thing very explicitly - the rules of the game are about to change," Galant said.

"We will no longer accept the arson terror and the fence terror," added Galant, who is currently taking part in a conference of the Association of Contractors and Builders in Eilat.

8. 'MISSING SAUDI JOURNALIST HAD 'BLOODLUST' AGAINST ISRAEL'
by Guy Cohen

Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi-born writer who was allegedly murdered on the orders of the Saudi government in Istanbul earlier this month, has been the subject of much concern in the mainstream media since his disappearance.

However, Khashoggi was far from a liberal journalist, writes Jordan Schachtel of Conservative Review.

Schachtel stated that Khashoggi, who wrote for the Washington Post's serious bloodlust when it came to violence against the state of Israel Global Opinions" section, was an Islamist extremist who displayed a "serious bloodlust when it came to violence against the state of Israel" and was connected to terrorist organizations.

In 2014, Khashoggi wrote an op ed for the Middle East Monitor, a publication which is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood movement, in which he expressed his hope that Muslim nations would one day work together with the Hamas terrorist organization to destroy the Jewish State. He has written other pieces castigating Muslim nations for failing to support Hamas' genocidal ambitions.

Khashoggi was also a supporter of arch-terrorist Osama Bin Laden, the leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization.

According to Schachtel, Khashoggi had an "extremely regressive, anti-Western worldview and a consistent pattern of supporting fringe Islamist movements in the region."

Schachtel said that while "no one deserves to be harmed for his views," the media have played fast and loose with the truth by portraying Khashoggi as a moderate journalist and reformer.

1. PARENTS AND CHILD KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT NEAR THE DEAD SEA
by Arutz Sheva Staff

A couple, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, and their baby son were killed Thursday morning in a serious car accident between a bus and a private car on Route 90 near the Neot Hakikar junction at the southern part of the Dead Sea.

MDA personnel who were called to the scene of the accident were forced to confirm the deaths of the three at the scene. Suspicions that the collision was the result of a flat tire on the bus are being investigated. "The wheel exploded, the bus veered off the path, and then the collision happened," said one of the bus passengers.

Fourteen of the passengers on the bus involved in the accident were also injured. Their is light and they were treated by MDA teams and evacuated to Soroka hospital in Be'er Sheva by helicopter and ambulance.

Road 90 was blocked to traffic from the Arava junction to the Zohar junction in both directions following the accident. Police are asking the drivers to use alternative routes.

"A young woman in her 20s lay outside the car and a man in his 30s suffering multi-systemic injuries was trapped in the driver's seat. The man and woman lacked a pulse and were not breathing and, after medical checks, we had to confirm their deaths at the scene. The baby of about 1 was transferred to an intensive care ambulance and, after CPR, we were forced to confirm his death."

MDA paramedic Itai Orion added, "The baby of about 1 year was unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, with multi-systemic injuries. With the aid of a doctor who rushed to the scene we performed sustained CPR but his condition was critical, and we were forced to confirm his death at the scene after several long minutes. This was a very serious accident. The bus passengers were at the scene all the time and there was a commotion."

Senior MDA medic Sarah Yisraeli said, "When we got to the scene of the accident we saw about 50 passengers outside the bus, all of them were fully conscious and walked around. I did a scan of the bus and began sorting out the passengers who complained. 13 passengers suffered minor injuries and signs of anxiety. We gave them first aid and we helped them. We drove the driver, a man of about 50, to the MDA helicopter that landed nearby and the other passengers we took to the ambulances and evacuated them to Soroka Hospital, all of them in light condition."

2. LOUIS FARRAKHAN: JEWS ARE TERMITES
by Guy Cohen

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan posted a video segment to his Twitter account on Tuesday in which he tells his followers that he is not an anti-Semite but, rather, "anti-termite."

[twittervideo:2048461]

Twitter said in response on Wednesday that it would not be suspending Farrakhan's account in the meantime, noting that its policy barring "dehumanizing" language, which was announced in late September, has not yet gone into effect.

Therefore, the company established, "Louis Farrakhan's tweet comparing Jews to termites is not in violation of the company's policies."

Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, responded to Farrakhan's words by tweeting, "Comparing Jews to termites is anti-Semitic, wrong and dangerous. The responsive laughter makes my skin crawl."

"For everyone who rightly condemned President Trump's rhetoric when he spoke about immigrants 'infesting our country,' this rhetoric should be equally unacceptable to you," she added.

3. WOMAN LAID TO REST AFTER BEING MISSING SIX MONTHS
by Arutz Sheva Staff

In Ashdod, the late Tarak Tayik was buried on Tuesday, about a month after being spotted by special search and rescue forces of the Israel Dog Unit (IDU) about six months after it became known she was missing.

On her last journey, Tayik was escorted by hundreds of people, mostly members of the Ethiopian community. Her family and dignitaries made eulogies and stories of her life as a devoted and righteous mother.

In the months of her absence, the IDU conducted extensive searches with ZAKA, Israel Police, and other bodies.

About a month ago, her body was found by a pair of IDU members, Meshulam Sones and Aryeh Yavin, who note that the burial place of the late Tayik at the edge of the Ashdod cemetery is located only 200 meters away from the spot where she was located under a tree near the cemetery. The searchers estimate that she went to rest under the tree, became dehydrated, and died after an unclear period of time.

"Any search is a puzzle, a mystery, a crossword puzzle that requires a game of assembly," says Israel Dog Unit Commander Yekutiel ben Yaakov, stressing that "searching for a missing person isn't a game but a race against the clock, especially in the first few days. After that, even if we can't save the missing person, the search will continue as long as necessary to bring the missing person to Jewish burial, as long as bones can be found to bring a certain closure to the family and partially heal the open wounds of doubt."

To achieve quick and effective results, search teams and commanders must act quickly and professionally to solve the crossword puzzle by mapping the relevant field cells. This is done while taking into consideration the missing person's profile, the trigger that caused the absence, and the missing person's history and physical condition, while analyzing the topography of the region, the climate, along with the IDU's tools and resources.

"In the case of the late Tarak Tayik, as in many other cases, the incident took place with information provided to our headquarters about testimonies and cameras that documented her walking in the city's different neighborhoods. The general direction was northward, near the cemetery. IDU command had to examine and weigh the reliability of the evidence and decide which areas and orchards to survey first. We acted on the assumption that she left the urban area and that's why the flow of information about her movements stopped coming at some point.

In addition, the IDU said a considerable problem facing the forces was the size of the areas they had to scan, which stretched over many kilometers to the Lachish River that surrounds Ashdod. "The prevailing opinion in the family and the police was that she left Ashdod or that she was trying to distance herself from the area," she said, adding that "Indeed, evidence was found that she was supposedly observed in various cities that later turned out to be wrong."

4. TWO JAFFA RESIDENTS ACCUSED OF TRYING TO JOIN FIGHTERS IN SYRIA
by Mordechai Sones

An indictment was filed at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court today against two Arab Jaffa residents, Abd al-Malik Asfur and Adam Abu Shehadeh, for attempting to illegally leave Israel to join the jihad arena in Syria.

According to the indictment, Asfur has in recent years been increasingly interested in the ISIS Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra organizations and their activities, while developing ideological identification with terror organization values.

At the end of 2015, Asfur decided to go to the war zone of the Syrian organizations, and at the beginning of 2016 contacted a person connected to these organizations via the Twitter social network.

The same person referred Asfur to the Telegram network where he could use secret chat to contact a Syrian agent to help him enter Syrian territory. Asfur suggested that Abu Shehadeh join him, and the latter agreed.

As a result, the two decided to leave Israel and enter Syria via Turkey to join ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, or Ahrar A-Sham forces, to participate in their activities, and to assist in fighting the Syrian regime.

Upon arriving in Istanbul, the defendants waited to hear from the Syrian source who ordered them to wait a day or two for instructions, but when he did not contact them, the defendants understood connection with him had been broken and they returned to Israel.

5. GAZA ENVELOPE TO RESUME NORMAL ROUTINE
by Elad Benari

The Home Front Command on Thursday morning lifted the restrictions that were imposed on the Gaza envelope. The decision was made following an assessment of the situation.

The restrictions were announced on Wednesday morning after a Gaza rocket landed in a residential building in Be'er Sheva. As part of the restrictions, schools were closed and public events were limited to 300 people in an open area and 500 people in a closed area.

Earlier, the meeting of the Political-Security cabinet, in which the ministers discussed the latest escalation in the south, concluded after about five and a half hours.

The Cabinet meeting was supposed to take place on Wednesday morning, but was postponed to the evening hours to allow for the participation of IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, who cut short his visit to New York following the latest developments.

6. 'WE LOST EVERYTHING'
by Orly Harari

Hours after a powerful rocket fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel struck a private home in the southern city of Beer Sheva, the now homeless family which resided in the now destroyed house is calling on the public to help them rebuild their lives.

"I don't have a home," said Miri Tamano, the mother of three whose home was destroyed when a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip overnight landed in her yard. "I have three kids, each of them means the world to me."

Tamano said her family was left without even the bare essentials, and would need help from the public.

"In particular, [we need] the bare essentials, so that we can get on our feet. Everything has been lost."

The family will be staying in a hotel while repairs are made to the house.

Tamano and her three children were treated for shock after the rocket landed next to their house, but were saved from far more serious injury by the fact that Tamano had rushed the family into a specially fortified shelter room.

The rocket was fired overnight by terrorists operating in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

The IDF attributed the rocket attack to the Hamas terror organization, a claim denied by Hamas leaders.

Hours after the attack, Israeli fighter jets attacked 20 terrorist positions across the Gaza Strip, killing at least one terrorist.

7. TRUMP PLAN INCLUDES UNIFICATION OF JUDEA, SAMARIA WITH GAZA
by David Rosenberg

The Trump administration's 'Deal of the Century' to promote a final status agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority includes plans to reunite the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with the Palestinian Authority, a senior White House official said Tuesday.

While details of President Trump's 'Deal of the Century' to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East have yet to be released, White House special envoy Jason Greenblatt revealed in an interview with Yediot Ahronot Tuesday that the plan includes a provision for Palestinian Arab unity.

"Let's be clear about something: Gaza and the West Bank have been separated for 10 years, not only physically, but politically—between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. It's absurd to deny that reality," Greenblatt said Tuesday.

"In contrast, our peace plan intends to bring them together. Make no mistake; we are in this to help all Palestinians, in both the West Bank and Gaza. The type of disinformation being spread by some parties who have not even seen the plan yet wish to be spoilers does nothing to benefit ordinary Palestinian lives."

Greenblatt did not reveal further details of the White House peace plan, which has yet to be finalized, but implored all parties involved to withhold judgment until the specifics of the plan are released.

"Once our plan is released, all parties should read it and judge it by its merits. The PLO should be a positive force to change people's lives for the better, and not try to sway people before they have even seen our plan," Greenblatt added.

Former Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Oren (Kulanu), who now serves as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, said the White House's plans to bring together the Gaza Strip and Palestinian Authority testified to the governments seriousness in pursuing a final status agreement.

"Greenblatt's statement regarding the connection between Gaza and Judea and Samaria proves that the government is very serious about its intentions to reach an agreement, on the basis of an uncompromising obligation to the security of Israel and all of its citizens – including [Israeli] citizens in Judea and Samaria."

While the Gaza Strip was included as part of the Palestinian Authority under the terms of the Oslo Accords, the coastal enclave has been ruled by the Hamas terror organization, following its takeover of Gaza in 2007.

Despite reconciliation talks between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, culminating in the signing of a full reconciliation deal in 2017, Gaza has remained under de facto Hamas control, leading the Palestinian Authority to withhold payments to the Strip, including purchases of electricity from Israel.
