A senior IDF officer in the Gaza Division spoke about the incident on Wednesday night in which an IDF officer and two soldiers were lightly wounded in an exchange of gunfire with a terrorist at the Gaza border.

The Southern Brigade and its battalions carried out the mission from the first minute," the officer said. He noted that the terrorist, who has been identified as Hani Abu Salah, had been in Israeli territory for about two hours but the incident was under the control of the IDF the entire time.

A senior IDF official in the Gaza division explained, "A terrorist was spotted about 250 meters from the border and it appeared that he was not armed but this fact didn't change the response. IDF forces rushed to the spot where the terrorist was identified, who realized he had been caught, and an exchange of gunfire began during which an IDF officer and two soldiers were wounded."

The senior official added that there was a fear of bilateral shooting and the terrorist was believed to be inside one of the IDF's positions. "At this stage, another member of the force managed to eliminate the terrorist."

An earlier report stated that the terrorist utilized the batteries the IDF built to deal with Gaza riots.

IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Ronen Manellis said of the incident: "Around two o'clock on Wednesday night, lookouts in the Kissufim area saw a suspect approaching the fence. Action was taken against the approach, routine activity that occurs a lot. The force that arrived came with the perception that it was coming for an infiltration incident. It is unclear at this point whether the force realized there was a possibility that the suspect was armed."

Manelis explained that when the IDF force reached the area, the suspect was already in Israeli territory and a shooting event ensued. "A commander of the unit was moderately wounded from the shooting. Two were wounded lightly, one from shrapnel and the other suffered from buzzing in his eardrum from his own shooting. At this point, troops from the (Golani) battalion reached the area and secured it. Activity to hit the terrorist began, all the while monitored by lookouts. The terrorist was armed with grenades and a Kalashnikov. The mounting forces killed him. At the same time, a tank fired at a Hamas position.”

"The terrorist was wearing a Hamas uniform and also used one of the grenades. The incident ended when he was killed in the battery space along the fence. The first force which included the wounded did not eliminate the terrorist, the second force eliminated him with shots from a light weapon,” he added.

Two IDF fighters who were lightly wounded in the attack were released from Soroka Hospital. The moderately wounded officer is still hospitalized.

2. 'Women of the Wall' hide Torah scroll in public bathroom

by Arutz Sheva Staff

A group of about 20 women of Women of the Wall particapated in a Rosh Chodesh prayer for the month of Av by the Western Wall on Friday morning.

During the service, a Torah scroll was found in the public bathroom at the Western Wall plaza. "The Torah scroll arrived the night before and was hidden in the public bathroom at the Western Wall plaza in order to smuggle it in [into the women's section] in a blatant violation of the guidelines," the Western Wall Heritage Foundation stated.

"A member of Women of the Wall removed the head covering of an Orthodox woman. The violent attack caused an anxiety attack and was treated by MDA personnel," the Western Wall Heritage Foundation continued. Also, "one of the activists from the Women of the Wall who entered the crowd of young haredi women was violently attacked and rescued by the Israeli police."

"The Western Wall Heritage Foundation firmly condemns the provocation of the Women of the Wall every month as well as the fierce violence against them. The events are being handled by the Israeli police," the Western Wall Heritage Foundation concluded.

At least one arrest has been made.

3. Dozens protest Ashdod 'pride' parade

by Arutz Sheva Staff

Dozens of people demonstrated on Friday against the "pride" parade in the southern city of Ashdod.

The Hotem organization, which aims to strengthen the family unit, said: "Pride parades are an attempt to destroy the family from within. A family is a father, mother, and children, and nothing else."

"LGBT is the most aggressive movement in Israel and tries to silence any cultured conversation and to chart a new norm and redefine family."

Shlomit, an Ashdod resident, said: "In the past few years, the violent discourse among LGBT representatives has been just a part of the trend to do everything in order to break apart the family. This is the first time I've attended such a protest, and I only did it because we cannot allow ourselves to be afraid, we must take pride in the family."

Last year, Globes reported that members of the LGBT organization called hi-tech and other major companies to see if they would support a snap pro-LGBT strike. Those companies which did not express support were told that representatives "will make sure the media knows" that they did not fully support the strike, and even resorted to outright threats. The resulting pressure caused dozens of large Israeli companies to bow to the demands to pay employees to strike without prior notice that they planned to take part, as well as to allow their companies' names to be used to garner additional support.

5. Report: Israeli missile strike on southern Syria

by Arutz Sheva Staff, AFP

An Israeli missile hit southern Syria on Thursday, without causing any casualties, Syrian state media said.

The projectile fell in the Tel Bariqa area in Quneitra province, near the border with Israel, state news agency SANA said on its Telegram channel, without providing additional details.

A spokesperson for the Israeli army said it does not comment on foreign reports.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said regime loyalists are present in the area targeted by Thursday's missile attack.

It did not report any casualties.

Arab media outlets claim the projectile targeted forces from the Lebanese-based Hezbollah terrorist group in the area.

The Syrian province of Quneitra includes the Syrian-controlled part of the Golan Heights.

Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes in Syria, most of them against what it says are Iranian and Hezbollah targets.

Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shiite group that supports Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, who is also backed by Tehran.

Israel says it is determined to prevent its arch-foe Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria, where Tehran backs Assad's regime.

The apparent missile attack comes days after Arab media outlets claimed Israeli fighter jets struck Iranian-linked targets in Iraq.

According to a report by the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Israeli F-35I fighter jets bombed a target in the northern Iraqi Salahuddin province on July 19th.

The target struck by the Israeli fighters was reported to be a base operated by an Iraqi Shi’ite militia with close ties to the Iranian government.

A number of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards soldiers and members of the Hezbollah terrorist organization – which is allied with Iran – were reportedly killed in the attack.

The Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper also claimed Israeli aircraft conducted a second strike deep inside Iraqi territory, bombing a base operated by another Iranian-linked militia group.

The second attack reportedly took place this Sunday, and targeted a base 25 miles from Baghdad and 50 miles from the Iranian border where, like the first target, Iran is said to have been storing ballistic missiles.

An IDF officer was moderately wounded and two fighters were lightly wounded in an exchange of fire with Arab terrorist who crossed the Gaza border fence and entered Israel.

The incident occurred overnight Wednesday, when IDF fighters identified a suspect approaching the fence.

After crossing the perimeter fence into Israeli territory, the terrorist opened fire at the fighters. The fighters located the terrorist and opened fire at him until he was eliminated. In addition, a Hamas post was attacked by an IDF tank.

During the incident, several roads were closed to traffic and additional reinforcements were sent to secure the surrounding communities. The IDF stressed that entire incident took place in the border area.

The wounded fighters were evacuated for medical treatment at a hospital. Their families have been informed.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said that the terrorist who crossed the Gaza border fence was armed with rifles and grenades and dressed in a Hamas uniform. However, it is believed that he acted independently.

Wednesday night's incident comes a day after the IDF completed a large-scale drill of its Southern Command to improve the military's readiness for war against terrorist organizations in Gaza.

7. This is how the IDF prepares for war

by Arutz Sheva Staff

The IDF is preparing for the possibility of a significant escalation in the south. Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, issued instructions when he took office that the IDF would increase its readiness for a military campaign in the Gaza Strip.

The readiness process involves a partnership of all bodies in the General Staff headed by the Southern Command. The process focuses on increasing the breadth of General Staff goals, empowering intelligence, linking field units with real-time intelligence, regional organization, training, and extensive logistical effort.

The process of increasing readiness was carried out on several levels. The first was battle conduct; In the first half of 2019 a full procedure for battle conduct was carried out by the Southern Command and the General Staff with all the field units to fight in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, as part of campaign readiness, the Intelligence Division, in cooperation with the Southern Command, increased the range of targets for war, while building fire plans tailored to the campaign.

Another tier was developed in the last six months, when the Southern Command developed a specialized training program addressing a combat scenario in the South. The program included battalion fire exercises called the “Southern Command Test” based on criteria specific to combat in the Gaza Strip.

Over the course of the first half of 2019, 30 such exercises were conducted. In addition, the “Coiled Spring” course was held, which trained commanders from the company level and above using a virtual reality simulation, simulating the expected combat conditions in the Gaza Strip and emphasizing the enemies' preparedness.

About two weeks ago, a large-scale exercise was performed that examined the effectiveness of commanders in combat. Eight divisional commanders, hundreds of reserve personnel, air force and naval forces from the Ashdod arena participated in the exercise.

In recent months, a concentrated effort has been made to organize civilian and military space on the border of the Gaza Strip, led by the Gaza Division's engineering forces. The efforts have been made with the knowledge that a shift from routine to emergency scenario in the region can happen very quickly.

8. It's final - Otzma Yehudit is running alone

by David Rosenberg

Otzma Yehudit filed its candidate list for the 22nd Knesset with the Israel Central Elections Committee Thursday night, officially registering for a solo run.

The move ends the possibility of a joint run with the United Right ticket, which had negotiated with Otzma for a possible alliance.

Otzma leaders submitted the party’s candidate list minutes before the 10:00 p.m. deadline, some two hours after having arrived at the Central Elections Committee offices.

Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir, who will lead the Otzma list, had declared at 8:00 p.m. that the party would run alone, but waited for nearly two hours before registering the party, giving the United Right a chance to change its offer for a joint run.

The United Right had offered Otzma the 8th and 13th slots on a joint ticket, refusing Otzma’s demands for the 5th and 11th places.

Otzma ran with the United Right ticket in April, but failed to receive Knesset representation after its candidate for the fifth place on the list was disqualified by the Supreme Court.

The Otzma candidate list is as follows:

1. Itamar Ben-Gvir, attorney and Otzma activist

2. Baruch Marzel, Hevron activist and former Kach party leader

3. Dr. Adva Biton, the mother of Adelle Biton, an Israeli child murdered by Arab stone-throwers

4. Yitzhak Vaserlof, director-general of Otzma Yehudit

5. Bentzi Gopstein, chairman of the Lehava anti-assimilation organization
