1. REPORT: NETANYAHU CONSIDERING FIRING BEZALEL SMOTRICH
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu may be preparing to fire Transportation Minister Bezalel Smotrich, one of the two ministers from the United Right in his caretaker government.

According to a report Monday afternoon by Channel 12, Netanyahu has held meetings in the Prime Minister’s Office since Monday morning to weigh the possible removal of Smotrich from the caretaker government.

The Prime Minister convened the meetings after Smotrich excoriated Netanyahu Sunday, over his handling of Muslim riots in and around the Temple Mount, as well as the recent controversial court decision banning gender separation at a haredi concert in Afula.

United Right officials said Netanyahu’s discussion with Likud officials regarding the possible firing of Smotrich signaled his intentions to form a unity government with the center-left Blue and White party after the elections.

“Netanyahu’s threats to fire Smotrich are proof that he has set his sights on a government with Gantz.”

“Netanyahu’s humiliating treatment of Religious Zionism is set. He always uses us then throws us away. The fact that he would even dare talk about firing Smotrich proves that Netanyahu has decided on a government with the Left. He never dreamed of firing Kahlon or Liberman, who blasted him remorselessly.”

Netanyahu initially closed, then reopened the Temple Mount to Jewish visitors Sunday after Arab rioters clashed with police at the holy site.

Smotrich blasted Netanyahu over the initial closure, later saying the pressure on Netanyahu was key to the site’s reopening.

Later on Sunday, Smotrich lambasted Netanyahu and his government for failing to intervene after the Nazareth District Court barred a haredi concert in Afula from having gender-separate seating.

"If only I could expect the prime minister to come to the defense of the religious public and call on the Attorney General, whose people lead this fundamentalist secular coercion, to order. But right now he is busy looking for their mandates and has no time to deal with their plight,” said Smotrich.

''A stupid judicial system. Sorry that despite my position, I can't find a more refined word. A fundamentalist progressive idiocy. And since we're followers of this government, it won't help us to lay the responsibility on the legislators - a weak prime minister with 100 percent of this troll happening on his shift. Zero leadership. Zero governance. [Deputy Attorney Generall] Dina Zilber is the real prime minister."

Netanyahu and Smotrich have sparred in recent weeks, with the Transportation Minister accusing the Prime Minister of plotting to form a government with left-wing factions after the next election. Netanyahu, in turn, has mocked Smotrich over his support for the establishment of a theocratic state.

Two of the those arrested, who were found in their beds, are Nassir Salah Khalil Issafara, 24, and Qassam Aaraf Khalil Issafara, 30. Neither of them were able to reach their weapons and act against the security forces.

The terrorists' identities were known to security forces from an early stage in the investigation. They were found mostly by analysis of security cameras in the area.

During their arrest, a violent riot erupted in the village, with approximately 100 Palestinian Authority residents throwing rocks at Israeli security forces. The security forces responded with riot dispersal techniques.

A one-year-old toddler was rescued by passersby after being forgotten in a car in Bnei Brak Monday.

The child was in the car for about an hour before being spotted. Several civilians worked to open the door and remove her from the hot vehicle.

Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated the child to Tel Hashem Hospital in light condition.

4. LEADING HAREDI RABBI HOSPITALIZED
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, a leading Lithuanian-haredi rabbi and the head of the famed haredi Ponovicz Yeshiva, was admitted to Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center, after he felt weak due to fasting on Tisha B'Av.

A doctor examining Rabbi Edelstein in his home decided that the 96-year-old rabbi required blood tests, and transferred him to Mayanei Hayeshua, where they decided to admit him.

According to Kikar Hashabbat, sources close to Rabbi Edelstein said he is weak but in good condition.

Mayanei Hayeshua's Medical Director Dr. Moti Ravid told Kikar Hashabbat: "The yeshiva dean is hospitalized in the intensive care unit. I have not received permission to discuss his situation."

The public is asked to pray for Rabbi Yerachmiel Gershon, the son of Miriam.

5. MUSLIMS NOW MAKE UP 18% OF ISRAEL'S POPULATION
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Monday published statistics on Israel's Muslim population, in honor of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

According to CBS, at the end of 2018, Israel's Muslim population numbered 1.598 million, or 17.8% of Israel's total population.

Last year, the Muslim population grew by 37,000 residents and included 316,000 households, totaling 12% of all households in Israel.

Though the Muslim population grew 2.5% between 2016-2017, it grew only 2.3% between 2017-2018.

Jerusalem has the greatest concentration of Muslims, with 337,000 living within its boundaries alone. Jerusalem's Muslims represent 21.1% of all Muslims in Israel, and 36.6% of the city's residents.

The Muslim population is relatively young, with 33.8% aged 0-14 years, and just 4.2% over age 65.

Fertility rates among the Muslim community dropped from 3.37 children per woman in 2017 to 3.20 children in 2018. Jewish women, meanwhile have a fertility rate of 3.17 children per woman, while the Christian rate is 2.06 children per woman and the Druze rate is 2.16 children per woman.

Thirty-two percent of households headed by a Muslim include six or more people, compared to 9% of households headed by a Jew.

6. HOUSE LEADERS: TLAIB AND OMAR SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VISIT ISRAEL
by Ben Ariel

The US House of Representatives majority and minority leaders said in Jerusalem that Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar should be allowed to visit Israel and Palestinian Authority-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria despite their criticism of the country, JTA reported Sunday.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), who is leading a delegation of 41 Democratic Representatives, many of them newly elected, to Israel and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who is leading 31 Republican lawmakers, met with reporters in Jerusalem Sunday morning.

The two leaders were responding to a report in Axios on Saturday which said that President Donald Trump told advisers he thinks Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu should use Israel’s anti-boycott law to bar Tlaib and Omar from entering Israel.

The White House responded to the report on Saturday night, saying, “The Israeli government can do what they want. It’s fake news.”

Omar announced last month that she will be visiting Israel and the Palestinian Authority and would be accompanied by Tlaib. Their visit is scheduled for August 18.

Israel could have prevented their entry in light of a 2017 law which allows Israeli officials to ban supporters of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, but Israel’s Ambassador to Washington, Ron Dermer, said the two women would be permitted entry out of respect for the US Congress and the great alliance between Israel and America.

“I do not know that the president was unhappy; I speak to him everyday,” McCarthy said in Jerusalem on Sunday, according to JTA.

“Anyone who comes with open ears, open eyes and an open mind will walk away with understanding, just as all these members here do …  I think all should come,” he added.

Shabak (Israel Security Agency) working together with Israel Police and the IDF, arrested two suspects believed to have been involved in the murder of IDF soldier and peace activist Dvir Sorek.

The suspects have been named as Nassir Salah Khalil Issafara, a 24-year-old Hamas terrorist, and 30-year-old Qassam Aaraf Khalil Issafara.

The two were arrested by a special Shabak, Yamam (Israel Police counterterrorism unit), and IDF team, in a home in Kafr Beit Kahil

IDF troops confiscated the vehicle the terrorists presumably used for the attack. The terrorist squad and the vehicle were transferred to security forces for further investigation.

During the arrest, a riot of approximately 100 Palestinian Authority Arabs was staged in Beit Kahil, near Hevron. Rioters hurled rocks towards IDF troops and security forces, who responded with riot dispersal methods.

"The IDF will continue to operate in order to preserve the security in the area, thwart any terror attempts and arrest assailants," an IDF statement said.

8. FLORIDA PASTOR CALLS JEWISH ACTRESS 'WHORE OF ZIONISM'

A fundamentalist Christian pastor’s anti-Semitic rant in which he called for the death of actress and comedian Sarah Silverman has the Jewish comedian fearing for her life.

Silverman, a vocal supporter of numerous left-wing causes, on Thursday posted a video on Twitter of the sermon and said, “This is Adam Fannin of the Stedfast Baptist Church in Florida and he is going to get me killed.”

In the video, Fannin says:

You know these Jewish false prophets, anti-Christian, anti-God, they’re willing to put Jesus to death again … You heard this comedian Sarah Silverman? … Listen, she is a witch. She is a Jezebel. She is a God-hating whore of Zionism. I hope that God breaks her teeth out and she dies. She is a wicked person and she is like the perfect representation of religious Judaism … She is Satan’s scoffer and she is there to take the world and make ’em laugh and then diss Jesus, try to take away the respect from Jesus.

It is not clear exactly when the clip dates from, though the background and pulpit look similar in style to Stedfast videos uploaded to YouTube in the second half of 2018, Newsweek wrote.

Later Thursday, Silverman posted a statement about the video:

Someone on the Right made a meme of a joke from Jesus Is Magic, a comedy special I did in character, and presented it as if I was saying it at a press conference. It’s a picture of me with the quote, ‘I’m glad the Jews killed Jesus. I’d do it again!’ And THAT is what triggered the pastor. So, the person who made the meme knew it was comedy and intentionally repurposed it as real, knowing it would influence a swath of people who see it and share it everyday. And that’s America today. Incitements of violence based on lies and the disingenuous re-framings of truth.

Travis Akers, a reverend who describes himself as a “progressive Baptist,” wrote on Twitter that he had filed a complaint with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the FBI about Fannin over the sermon about Silverman.

“An officer is going to be coming out as well to view the video for themselves, even though they could from the station, but it’s part of the formal filing process,” he said. “Additionally, I have provided them the church information as well.”

A video statement released by the church on Friday said Fannin had been fired by Stedfast Baptist Church, though the church emphasized that the firing was unrelated to his comments on Sarah Silverman.

"Six months ago, we found out this guy is a liar, he's a railer, he's really selfish."

According to a report by USA Today, Fannin now preaches at the Law of Liberty Baptist Church. Both the Law of Liberty and Stedfast churches are located in Jacksonville, Florida.
