1. ARABS ATTEMPT TO KIDNAP IDF SOLDIER
by Ido Ben Porat

Muslim Arabs attempted Thursday to kidnap an IDF soldier traveling home on leave, sources told Arutz Sheva.

The soldier, who is serving in the IDF's Givati Brigade, said the kidnapping attempt occurred at Har Keren Junction in southern Israel. A vehicle with dark windows stopped beside the soldier and its passengers offered him a ride.

When the soldier ignored their offers, they exited the vehicle and tried to force him into it. In response, the soldier cocked his weapon and another citizen arrived to try to block their vehicle.

The suspects then escaped the scene.

The IDF does not allow its soldiers to hitchhike, due to the constant threat that soldiers will be kidnapped. Military police sometimes pick up soldiers and pretend to kidnap them, and any soldier caught is severely punished. Commanders also go over the rules before soldiers leave the base, reminding them that accepting rides is strictly prohibited.

2. HEALTH MINISTRY TO STOP FUNDING CHILDREN'S THERAPIES?
by Arutz Sheva Staff

MK Karin Elharrar (Blue and White) demanded Deputy Defense Minister Yakov Litzman (UTJ) retract his decision to end refunds for private child development services.

"This is an absurd and irresponsible decision which will cause irreversible damage to hundreds of thousands of children," Elharrar said. "Just last October, I held an emergency meeting to discuss the crisis these centers are experiencing and the Health Ministry's obligation to allocate 40 million NIS by the end of 2019 to provide a solution to the problem."

"Not only has not a single shekel been transferred, the Health Ministry went even further, deciding to cease providing refunds and pass the cost over to parents, who will not be able to afford the heavy cost of medical treatments.

"Deputy Minister Litzman needs to look the 22,000 children waiting for services in the eye and tell them why he decided to seal their fate in such a cruel way."

Currently, government-funded early childhood centers offer physical, speech, occupational, and other therapies for children up to age six. However, not every center offers every service, and waiting times for services range from three months in the center of the country to a year and a half or even two years in the periphery.

Parents whose children have been on a waiting list for more than three months and who do not yet have appointments to begin receiving developmental therapies are currently able to request approval to find a private practitioner and receive part of the money back. This is especially crucial in Israel's periphery, where early childhood centers are fewer and farther between, suffer continuous understaffing, and even private practitioners have wait times of four to six months or more.

3. CONDITION OF POLICEMAN WOUNDED IN TERROR ATTACK IMPROVES
by Eliran Aharon

The condition of the police offer moderately injured in a stabbing attack has improved.

The officer, who has not been named, was moderately injured Thursday in Jerusalem's Old City when two terrorists attacked him near the Iron Gate.

One of the terrorists was eliminated, while the other sustained injuries.

The police officer is currently hospitalized in Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

He is in good condition and will remain hospitalized for further examination and treatment, Shaare Zedek said.

4. INTERIOR MINISTER APPROVES TLAIB REQUEST TO VISIT GRANDMOTHER
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) on Friday approved US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib's request to visit Israel in order to see her elderly grandmother.

On Thursday, Israel announced that Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will not be allowed to enter Israel due to their support of BDS.

On Thursday night, Tlaib sent a request to Israel's Ministry of Interior to visit her "Palestinian" grandmother on humanitarian grounds.

In her request, Tlaib wrote: "I would like to request admittance to Israel in order to visit my relatives, and specifically my grandmother, who is in her 90s and lives in Beit Ur al-Fouqa. This could be my last opportunity to see her. I will respect any restrictions and will not promote boycotts against Israel during my visit. Thank you, Rashida Tlaib."

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) had recommended approving Tlaib's personal request, "in light of her commitment to respect Israeli law and not to promote boycotts against us."

5. EXPLOSIONS HEARD IN SYRIA'S HAMA REGION
by Elad Benari

Syrian media reported on Thursday night that explosions were heard in the Masyaf District of the Hama Governorate.

The country’s official news agency SANA reported that anti-aircraft fire downed a hostile missile over the region.

The report said the missile was fired from Lebanon's aerial territory and was intercepted before it hit its target.

“At 23:06 on Thursday, August 15, 2019, our air defense detected a hostile target from northern Lebanon towards the city of Masyaf, and immediately dealt with it and destroyed it before reaching its target,” said the Syrian Defense Ministry.

The military base in Maysaf has been attacked in the past, in an air strike attributed to Israel.

Last month, Syria accused Israel of attacking several targets in the Deraa and Kuneitra regions of Syria. According to the reports, the attacks were directed against a weapons depot used by Iranian militias.

Earlier that month, Syria accused Israel of carrying out an air strike on its territory. According to the Syrian media, the attack was a combined attack by Israeli fighter jets and navy ships in which missiles were fired at military targets in the capital Damascus and in the city of Homs.

A satellite image released after the attack showed the site that was attacked in Damascus. According to the Image Satellite International (ISI) company, the site in question was a large hangar inside the SSRC complex in Jarmaya.

6. TERROR ATTACK IN OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM
by David Rosenberg

One person was wounded in a terrorist stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem Thursday.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred near the Temple Mount’s Iron Gate at just after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, when two terrorists attacked security personnel near the holy site.

The victim, a 30-year-old police officer, was stabbed in his arm, and is said to be in moderate condition and fully conscious.

MDA emergency first responders have been dispatched to the scene, and are treating the victim.

Following the attack, Israeli security personnel opened fire on the terrorists, killing one and seriously wounding the second.

Additional security forces have been deployed to the area following the attack.

“At 18:08, a report was received in MDA's Jerusalem Regional Dispatch regarding a wounded man next to the Iron Gate in Jerusalem's Old City," MDA said in a statement.

"MDA EMTs and paramedics are treating and evacuating to the hospital a man in his 30s with stab wounds while he is fully conscious and alert."

"Upon our arrival we found an approximately 30-year-old man fully conscious at the scene," said MDA paramedic Moshe Cordova. "He was suffering from stab wounds and we bandaged the wounds and stopped the bleeding. He was evacuated to the hospital with minor injuries. The terrorist was neutralized by security personnel."

7. IT'S OFFICIAL: ILHAN OMAR AND RASHIDA TLAIB BANNED FROM ISRAEL
by David Rosenberg

Israel will not permit two controversial Democratic lawmakers who have expressed support for the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement visit the country on a planned trip next week.

Following reports in Israeli media that Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) had decided to bar Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib from entering Israel, the ministry confirmed Thursday that the two would be prevented from entering Israel, citing the 2017 anti-BDS law.

“The decision was made based on the opinion of the Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz, and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan, after Minister Deri noted that the matter involved supporters of the anti-Israel boycott, who are prohibited from entering the country, according to the law regarding entry into Israel,” the Interior Minister's office said in a statement Thursday.

"These are people who use the most influential platform in the world to express support for BDS organizations which call for the boycotting of Israel. The State of Israel respects the American Congress, as part of the close alliance between our two countries, but we cannot permit people into the country who seek to hurt the State of Israel."

Despite the ban, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said he would consider granting an entry visa to Tlaib, who has relatives in Samaria, on humanitarian grounds, should she request it.

“We won’t allow those who deny our right to exist in this world to enter Israel. In principle this is a very justified decision,” Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) told Kan.

Under the law, the Interior Ministry may bar entry to individuals who have publicly expressed support for the BDS movement against Israel.

Both Omar and Tlaib, first-term Democrats who have sparked controversy for their comments on Israel which some have deemed anti-Semitic, have backed the BDS movement.

The decision was formally announced shortly after President Donald Trump posted a comment to Twitter urging Israel not to allow the two lawmakers in, claiming the two “hate Israel and all Jewish people”.

“It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit,” Trump tweeted. “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”

The tweet came just hours after Israeli media reported that the Israeli interior ministry had decided to ban Omar and Tlaib from entering the country, due to their support for the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Israeli law prohibits entry into the country by supporters of the BDS movement.

Two weeks ago, Israeli Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer announced that Israel would allow the two to enter, in light of the strong messages he received on the subject from senior House officials.

Tlaib and Omar had planned to visit Israel’s security fence in Judea and Samaria, as well ascend the Temple Mount accompanied by senior Palestinian Authority officials, visit Bethlehem, Hevron, and Ramallah.

The trip was planned by Miftah, a pro-Palestinian Authority NGO cofounded by PA negotiator Hanan Ashrawi. Omar and Tlaib had been scheduled to land in Israel Sunday.

8. REPORT: RASHIDA TLAIB AND ILHAN OMAR BANNED FROM ENTERING ISRAEL
by David Rosenberg

Israel will not permit two controversial Democratic lawmakers to enter the country, Channel 12 reported Thursday afternoon.

According to the report, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) decided Thursday to bar Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib from entering Israel.

While the Interior Ministry has not confirmed the report, Channel 12 said the decision would soon be publicized, after the entry ban itself is formally drawn up.

The two will be prevented from entering Israel based on law passed by the Knesset in 2017 which permits the Interior Ministry to bar supporters of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS) from visiting the Jewish state.

Earlier on Thursday, Channel 12 reported that Israel was reconsidering its initial decision not to invoke the anti-BDS law and permit Tlaib and Omar to enter the country.

"There is a possibility that Israel will not allow the visit in its current proposed format," a government official said on condition of anonymity, AFP reported.

"Professional teams and legal counsel in various government ministries are continuing to examine the decision. According to Israeli law, the authority lies with the minister of the interior."

The decision to bar Tlaib and Omar is a reversal of the Israeli government’s position in late July.

In response to the Channel 12 report Thursday afternoon, Nati Rom, founder of the anti-BDS 'Lev Haolam' organization, said barring the two lawmakers would constitute a "victory for common sense."

"The decision not to allow the two anti-Semitic congresswomen is a victory for common sense over irrelevant considerations. The State of Israel has the right to defend itself from its enemies, and to decide who to allow into the country. The message that is made by the decision of Prime Minister Netanyahu and Interior Minister Aryeh Deri is that whoever works against Israel has no reason to come here, and Israel will use every means in its power to combat those being the effort to delegitimize [Israel]."

"Even if there are those who choose to highlight the opposing voices [against Israel], the Jewish people need to know that there are millions of people who support Israel in this undertaking."
