1. NETANYAHU: BERESHEET PUT ISRAEL IN THE HISTORY BOOKS
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu congratulated US President Donald Trump on the decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague not to investigate American soldiers for alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.

"At the end of the week there was a very significant development: The International Court of Justice in The Hague rejected the demand to investigate the soldiers of the United States. This would have put an end to the purpose for which the International Court of Justice was established," Netanyahu said.

"It was established to deal with the horrors of countries that do not have a proper legal system, and that they are harassing the Americans and / or Israel and putting them to trial is absurd and contrary to what the purpose of establishing the International Court of Justice was. I think that this has extraordinary implications for the conduct of the world. I congratulate the United States and President Trump. We very much appreciate the support in this area as well," the prime minister added.

Turning to the attempted landing of an Israeli spacecraft on the moon last week, Netanyahu said: "The Beresheet spacecraft put Israel in the history books."

"We have become one of the seven countries that have orbited the moon. This is a tremendous achievement for SpaceIL, and we intend to launch Beresheet 2, which the state will also participate in building, proving our capabilities - this is the difference between winners and losers.

Netanyahu held a toast with the members of the cabinet. "I want to congratulate the government on four years of achievements and achievements, which is reflected in the public's trust, and we will continue to do so in the next government."

2. ELECTIONS CMTE SLAMS NEW RIGHT CLAIMS
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The Central Elections Committee slammed the New Right party on Sunday for misrepresenting the nature of the irregularities in the counting of the votes in last Tuesday's elections

"As of Wednesday, 10.4.1919, immediately following the election day, the most senior representatives of the New Right began to be in contact with senior officials in the Central Elections Committee to clarify their claims," the committee said in a special statement.

The committee also noted that the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Vice President of the Supreme Court, Justice Hanan Meltzer, allowed the representatives of the New Right to review material from the special ballot boxes. "Moreover, every approach by the representatives of the New Right, by any means, was examined immediately upon receipt and without the need for formalism and forms."

"In view of all this, the Committee views with great severity the dissemination of the misrepresentation by the New Right that there were irregularities in the counting of special votes and the failure to recognize the Committee's attempts to provide them with the necessary information."

This morning, the director general of the Elections Committee, Orly Ades, rejected the claims regarding the results of the elections. In an interview with the Kalman Lieberman program online, Adas said, "Unfortunately, there were two technical failures in the computerized system that resulted from the computer company that gave us the computer services, which caused incorrect data to be presented."

Adas explained in an interview to Kalman Liebeskind and Prof. Yuval Elbashan that "the objective of transparency, in which we allow all the results of the elections to be presented in real time, is to enable parties and citizens to examine the results and draw our attention to possible mistakes. Naturally, at the end of such a busy day, there may occasionally be human error."

"When you copy the results from the vote counting sheet to the record, there may be a shifting error that causes the result to be listed in the next list," Ades explained. "In exceptional cases, we invite all the material of the same ballot box to take out all the ballots, the counting sheet and tell exactly what happened."

She referred to the possibility that the New Right would pass the threshold when the official results were announced on Wednesday. "Because of the very small gaps, there is a possibility, but not only for them, that there can still be changes here or there," she said.

3. ONE-THIRD OF AMERICANS DON'T BELIEVE 6 MILLION JEWS MURDERED
by Tal Polon

Almost one-third of American adults believe that significantly less that 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, according to a recent survey conducted ahead of Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day).

The survey, conducted by Schoen Consulting on behalf of The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, found that 70% of US adults say fewer people seem to care about the Holocaust than they used to. 58% believe something like the Holocaust could happen again.

According to the survey, 11% of all US adults and 22% of millennials haven't heard of, or are not sure they have heard of the Holocaust.

In addition, 31% of US adults and 41% of millennials believe that 2 million Jews or less were killed during the Holocaust.

45% of adults and 49% of millennials could not name a concentration camp or ghetto. Similarly, 41% of adults did not know what Auschwitz was, while a full 66% of millennials were unable to identify Auschwitz.

On the other hand, the survey pointed to a desire for Holocaust education and improvement in the quality of Holocaust curriculum.

Most US adults, 93%, believe all students should learn about the Holocaust in school, and 80% said it is important to keep teaching about the Holocaust so it doesn't happen again.

A majority of Americans, 52%, agree that lessons about the Holocaust are mostly historically accurate but could be better, the survey found.

5. POMPEO: PROMISE OF SOVEREIGNTY WON'T HARM PEACE PLAN
by Chana Roberts

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday told CNN that he does not believe Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's promise to apply Israeli sovereignty Judea and Samaria will harm the US President Donald Trump's "deal of the century."

Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper, Pompeo said, "I don't. I think that the vision we'll lay out is going to represent a significant change from the model that's been used."

"We've had a lot of ideas for 40 years. They did not deliver peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Our idea is to put forward a vision that has ideas that are new, that are different, that are unique, that tries to reframe and reshape what's been an intractable problem, that multiple administrations have grappled with, multiple administrations in Israel as well.

"We hope that we can get to a better place, everyone wants this conflict resolved. We want a better life for the Israelis without this conflict and we certainly want a better life for the Palestinian people."

Earlier this week, Pompeo refused to back a two-state solution, emphasizing that "ultimately the Israelis and Palestinians will decide how to resolve" the conflict.

The peace plan is expected to be presented on May 15.

6. BOLSONARO CLARIFIES REMARKS ON HOLOCAUST
by Ben Ariel

Israel's Ambassador to Brazil, Yossi Shelley, on Saturday night published on his Facebook page a clarification he received from Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro regarding his comments on the Holocaust.

"To the people of Israel: I wrote in the guestbook of the Yad Vashem museum in Jerusalem: 'Those who forget their past are doomed to not have a future.' Therefore, any other interpretation is only in the interest of those who want to push me away from my Jewish friends," Bolsonaro said, according to Shelley's post.

"Forgiveness is something personal, my speech was never meant to be used in a historical context, especially one where millions of innocent people were murdered in a cruel genocide," he added.

Bolsonaro caused an uproar on the weekend after he asserted during a meeting with evangelical pastors in Rio de Janeiro that the crimes of the Holocaust can be forgiven.

"We can forgive, but we cannot forget. That quote is mine. Those that forget their past are sentenced not to have a future," Bolsonaro said, but also made clear that actions are needed for the Holocaust not to be repeated.

On Saturday night, President Reuven Rivlin responded to Bolsonaro and tweeted, "What Amalek did to us inscribed in our memory, the memory of an ancient people. We will never aid those who deny the truth or those who wish to expunge our memory – not individuals or groups, not party leaders or prime ministers."

"We will never forgive and never forget. No-one will order the forgiveness of the Jewish people, and it can never be bought in the name of interests," he added.

"The Jewish people will always fight anti-Semitism and xenophobia. Political leaders are responsible for shaping the future. Historians describe the past and research what happened. Neither should stray into the territory of the other," said Rivlin.

The Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum had also criticized Bolsonaro's remarks.

"It is not the place of any person to determine whether the crimes of the Holocaust can be forgiven," Yad Vashem wrote. "From the day of its founding, Yad Vashem has worked for the continuation of the memory and meaning [of the Holocaust] for the Jewish people and for mankind as a whole."

7. FEIGLIN TO RELIGIOUS ZIONIST RABBIS: YOU ABANDONED JERUSALEM
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Moshe Feiglin, whose Zehut party failed to pass the threshold for the 21st Knesset, criticized Religious Zionist rabbis for calling on their students to refrain from voting for a party that seeks to separate Judaism from the state of Israel.

"The Religious Zionist rabbis were among the powerful institutions who united against freedom. I know them - they never bothered to self-reflect about the destruction of communities that became legitimized through them and never will. No rabbi bothered to talk to me before issuing hate letters against me," Feiglin claimed.

"I kept quiet but now I'll tell you a secret," Feiglin wrote to Religous Zionist rabbis on his Facebook page. "When you pushed Zehut voters to identify with the Gush, you not only managed to perpetuate the high cost of living, you not only managed to raise housing prices, and you not only managed to continue the miserable education of Israel's children but you also divided Jerusalem and abandoned Israel to destruction."

"Because as I promised throughout the campaign, I had no intention of dividing Jerusalem in exchange for legalization. And now Trump says, 'Israel's election results bring peace closer,' and we all know exactly what he means."

Feiglin said he had planned to insist on both preserving Jerusalem and legalizing cannabis in coalition negotiations. "My campaign revolved around economics and social issues. I didn't want to move the focus to the political arena because I knew that Jerusalem doesn't have a father today - certainly not you. If we succeeded in gaining enough seats as the polls predicted, then Zehut would have had additional threshold conditions for entering the coalition - any coalition: the Litzman Jerusalem Law."

"Yes, yes, the same law that the haredim brought when they were in the opposition which required 80 signatures of Knesset members before they would begin negotiations on Jerusalem. The same law regarding which all the 'trustees' who you recommended fled from the plenum so as not to support it and I was left alone. I wouldn't have cared if Netanyahu was the one who approved it or Gantz - because this law would have saved Jerusalem and the whole country."

8. WHITE HOUSE INVITES JEWISH LEADERS OVER FOR A TALK
by Ron Kampeas, JTA

The Trump administration has invited Jewish leaders over for a briefing on "pertinent" issues.

"Gathering with Jewish leaders," an invitation viewed by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency says. "You are invited to a discussion with key Administration officials on pertinent issues impacting the community."

It's not clear how many Jewish leaders are invited to the meeting set for Tuesday, or what the "pertinent" issues are, or who the "key officials" are.

US President Donald Trump has said he will soon be ready to release his Israeli-Palestinian Authority peace plan.

Jewish community officials also are concerned about security since an alleged white supremacist massacred 11 Jewish worshipers at a Pittsburgh synagogue in the worst attack ever on US Jews.
