1. STATEMENT FILED AGAINST BOY ARRESTED BY SHIN BET
by Mordechai Sones

The police filed a statement today against a 16-year-old Jewish youth on suspicion of committing serious security offenses.

The boy was arrested as part of the investigation into the death of Aisha Rabi from Badi, who was killed on October 12 near the town of Rechelim in Shomron.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the Israel Police and the Shin Bet. The investigation material was transferred to the Central District Attorney's Office for review and decision regarding prosecution.

The suspect's remand was extended by the court until next Sunday. In the coming days, the prosecution is expected to indict the minor. A gag order is in effect on all details of the investigation.

2. NETANYAHU EXPECTS TO WORK TOGETHER WITH SMOTRICH
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday called the new Chairman of the National Union Party, MK Bezalel Smotrich.

Netanyahu wished Smotrich good luck in leading the party and expressed the hope that the right could maintain its power in the next Knesset.

The prime minister told Smotrich that he expects the joint work between their respective parties to continue in the coming years.

The National Union Party elected MK Smotrich to be its chairman yesterday. The party also chose its list for the upcoming Knesset elections. In addition to chairman-elect Smotrich, the list includes Secretary-General of National Union: Ofir Sofer, former MK Orit Struk, Yossi Cohen, and Amichai Eliyahu.

"Religious Zionism is leading in all aspects of life in the State of Israel, in the army, in settlement throughout the country, and we'll continue to lead in politics as well," Smotrich said.

"I'm happy and proud of our team and from today we're reconnecting as a community, reconnecting to the Torah, to doing, to the field. We're embarking on a new path with all our might."

3. LAWYER CLAIMS ACCUSED JEWISH MUSEUM SHOOTER 'NOT THE KILLER'
by AFP

The Frenchman on trial for shooting dead four people at the Jewish museum of Belgium "is not the killer", his lawyers argued in court Tuesday.

"He did not squeeze the trigger," lawyer Henri Laquay said, as he began his defense of Mehdi Nemmouche, the alleged gunman in the May 24, 2014 shooting spree.

"Mehdi Nemmouche is not the killer," Laquay added.

Nemmouche, 33, faces a life sentence if convicted of the cold-blooded, anti-Semitic killings in Brussels, the Belgian capital.

Investigators say Nemmouche is the first jihadist veteran of the Syrian war to stage a terror attack in Europe.

His co-defendant Nacer Bendrer, a fellow Frenchman who allegedly supplied him with the weapons, also faces a life sentence.

Prosecutors detailed the charges against the pair during the first two days of the trial that opened on Thursday, paving the way for defense arguments on Tuesday.

by Arutz Sheva Staff

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon has decided that schools in the capital will end early on Wednesday in light of forecasts of inclement weather.

According to the forecasts, there is a possibility of snowfall beginning Wednesday afternoon. All schools will therefore end at 3 PM.

The directive applies to studies in grade schools, kindergartens, day care centers, and special education institutions. Special transportation will be provided to bring students home.

The decision was made during an assessment of the situation held by the municipality together with all the relevant emergency and professional bodies, including the Israel Police and the Home Front Command.

5. NEAR DISASTER AFTER CREW FALLS ASLEEP IN RUNAWAY TANK
by Arutz Sheva Staff

A runaway tank nearly caused disaster in southern Israel recently, after the tank's crew fell asleep.

The incident occurred at an IDF training area in southern Israel during an officer's training course, according to a report by Channel 2, after the tank unit commander had left the vehicle, which has been identified as a Merkava MK IV tank.

The commander had instructed the crew to remain inside the tank, with the vehicle's special brake system activated, which should have prevented any movement. In addition, the tank's turret was locked into position, to prevent any accidental rotation.

Despite these precautions, when the commander returned to the vehicle, he found that the tank had disappeared.

The 70-ton tank was later found nearly 2,000 feet away, after having crossed Highway 40.

It was later discovered that no one was in control of the tank at the time, as the crew were asleep as the Merkava cut across the highway in what could have been a traffic disaster.

An IDF spokesperson confirmed that the mishap took place, and said army investigators were probing the incident.

"During training which took place as part of a tank officers' training course in southern Israel, a tank slid down several hundred meters and cross a road. There were no injuries or damage caused by the incident. This is an unusual security incident, which will be investigated with the goal of preventing similar accidents from occurring the future."

6. JERUSALEM NEIGHBORHOOD GRIPPED BY PANIC AFTER MURDERS
by Hezki Baruch

Residents of a neighborhood in southeastern Jerusalem say they are now living in terror following a double homicide and stabbing attack, with suspicions the two incidents may be linked – and may have been terrorist attacks.

Mordechai Elkahi Street, a residential area off of David Raziel Street, sits on the northwestern edge of the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood (also known as East Talpiot) in southeast Jerusalem.

Last Wednesday, a teenage girl was stabbed at a bus stop on Elkahi Street by a man of "Arabic appearance". She was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in light-to-moderate condition.

On Sunday, police discovered an elderly couple dead in their apartment on Elkahi Street, the victims of an apparent double murder.

The victims, 71-year-old Yehuda Kaduri and his wife, 68-year-old Tamar Kaduri, had likely been murdered on Thursday – the day after the bus stop stabbing.

With police investigating "all directions" in the double homicide, residents expressed concern over the general decline in security in the neighborhood – and the possibility that the two incidents were acts of terror targeting the area's Jewish population.

"I've lived here for 42 years," Ami told Arutz Sheva Monday, and I never saw the kinds of things that have been happening in the last few years. Just a week ago a girl was stabbed. The level of security here has plummeted, and we are fearful every day."

"I have small children who are learning in the school here, and it's frightening. I'm always keeping my eyes open. At night you can see all these people who aren't from around here walking around the neighborhood. We need to wake up and see how we can restore security to the neighborhood, even if that means taking a private security company."

Ronit, a neighbor of the murdered couple, said that even her daughter, an officer in the Border Police, was afraid to travel in the neighborhood.

"I've lived here for eight years, and there is no security. My daughter is in the Border Police, and I need to take her to her base because she's frightened."

"I knew the Kaduris, they were nice, quiet people," Ronit continued, adding that in the wake of the murders, she had decided to move out of the neighborhood.

"Yesterday I put the house up for sale. I can't keep living here. My kids can't live with this kind of fear. I don't feel secure living here or raising my kids here. Yesterday we stayed home in fear. We can't live like that."

7. 'SHAKED, COME BACK'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

As the Jewish Home party continues to search for a successor to former chairman Naftali Bennett, who bolted from the faction earlier this month to form the New Right (HaYamin HaHadash) party, some party members are turning to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, urging her to return to the Jewish Home and take the reins in Bennett's place.

Shaked, who joined Bennett in splitting from the Jewish Home to establish the New Right, has been a close associate of Bennett's since the two worked together in then-Opposition Leader Binyamin Netanyahu's office from 2006 to 2008, before going on to form the My Israel movement together.

Despite Shaked's ties with Bennett, some in the Jewish Home hope she can be lured away from the New Right and back to her former party.

According to a report by Yediot Ahronot, senior party members have written to Shaked, offering her leadership of the party if she returns.

The Justice Minister has thus far, however, declined the offer.

"Shaked, together with Bennett, established the New Right and is determined to see it succeed," the Justice Minister's office said. "Having two separate parties will strengthen the ideological right."

Today, members of the National Union party, which ran jointly with Jewish Home and currently holds two of Jewish Home's eight seats, will vote for National Union chairman and the faction's Knesset list.

Iran remains unmoved by restrictions imposed by the United Nations on developing advanced missiles and is preparing to launch an observation satellite from the space center in the city of Saman.

Satellite images from recent days published this evening show that one of the advanced Iranian-made missiles will carry the satellite.

The pictures show the launch site already in final stages of preparation.

Last week, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hinted the launch of an Iranian satellite could lead to an intensification of sanctions against the country.

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reports that on December 22, 2018, Iran's Channel 1 aired a short animated video about the Iranian missile capabilities.

The report said: "In 2015, Iran tested for the first time its long-range ballistic missile, which can be controlled and guided until it hits the target. The Emad Missile has a range of 2,500 km and can easily hit targets in Russia, Eastern Europe, western China, north-eastern Africa, and large parts of India."

The report also showed an animation of the missile flying around the globe and passing the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, the Kremlin, and other landmarks.
