An attempted terror attack was foiled Tuesday morning, in the Adumim bloc just east of Jerusalem.

According to initial reports from the scene, a female terrorist attempted to stab Israelis near a gas station at the entrance to the Israeli town of Mishor Adumim Tuesday morning. Witnesses say the female terrorist charged a group of soldiers while brandishing a knife.

"A female terrorist attempted to stab border police officers at the petrol station near Mishor Adumim," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

Security officials say the terrorist had tried to hide in a falafel shop next to the gas station, and later refused to leave the establishment. After security forces were called to the shop, the terrorist left, and was later found en route to the neighboring Israeli town of Alon.

When soldiers confronted the terrorist, she charged at them and shouted in Arabic while brandishing scissors and a knife.

Israeli security forces present at the scene opened fire and neutralized the terrorist before she could reach her target, however.

No injuries were reported among Israeli civilians or security forces in the attack. The terrorist was treated at the scene by emergency medical responders before being evacuated by ambulance to the hospital in moderate condition.

Authorities later identified the terrorist as a 37-year-old resident of the Palestinian Authority-controlled town of Yatta, south of Hevron.

The abortive stabbing attempt comes a day after a similar incident outside of the Israeli town of Kiryat Arba in Judea, south of Jerusalem.

In the attempted stabbing attack Monday, an Arab terrorist brandishing a knife attempted to stab Israelis at the Elias Junction near Kiryat Arba, but was shot and wounded by IDF soldiers before he could cause harm.

The terrorist was treated on the scene and evacuated in light condition to a local hospital for further treatment.

2. 'OUR TRUE REVENGE AGAINST TERROR - MORE TORAH LEARNING'
by Yoni Kempinski, Jerusalem

Four years ago, a deadly terror attack took place at the Kehilat Bnei Torah synagogue and Kollel (Torah learning center) in the Har Nof neighborhood in Jerusalem. Five worshippers and one police officer were killed by two terrorists - and the incident shook the nation and the entire world.

Arutz Sheva visited the scene of the attack this week to learn firsthand how the world of Torah learning has strengthened and expanded in the four years after the massacre.

[youtube:2049299]

Elimelech Berman, studies daily at the Kollel and was a member of the Kollel at the time of the incident as well. "At the 6:30 prayer service, two terrorists came in in the middle of the prayers", Berman recalls, "they started slaughtering the people that were praying inside."

Inside the synagogue we meet Yitzi Levine, the bereaved son of Rabbi Kalman Levine, who was murdered in the attack.

"They came with knives and one gun", explains Levine, "they were shooting and killing people... chopping them down."

"My father was after his own prayers, he came to the synagogue to do something. He was outside of the hall so they hit him first, and that gave people a chance to run out."

Levine emphasizes the fact that the murderous attack took place in a synagogue: "It's not a war zone, not even a place of politics, it's a sanctuary. It feels very strange to attack a location like this, it feels very hateful and very antisemitic. It reminds us older and darker times of attacks against Jews because they're Jews."

After the massacre, the Kollel decided to expand in memory of the victims. The main program that was strengthened was the night Kollel - a unique program that invites working men to sit down and learn Torah in the Kollel every evening.

This is the true revenge, explains Elimelech Berman: "A person feels is that he wants a revenge. We took this to a place where revenge wasn't about going to kill out the people who tried to hurt us. What we did was strengthen our Torah studies and our prayers, trying to brings ourselves to a higher level - and that's the revenge that a Jew needs to take."

As a bereaved son, Yitzi Levine sees a special significance and meaning to the Torah study in memory of the victims.

"A person doesn't exist just in this life", he explains, "as long as something I did here continues, essentially I am really still alive. What they did here (in the Kollel) is keeping these people alive with us by bringing more Torah, and this Torah is connected to them."

"It gives a lot of comfort," Levine says, "because on some level I believe he (my father) is still alive. If he was alive he would want to learn Torah and gain more Torah and Mitzvot. As a son, I feel more obligated... I wasn't so religious when the terror attack happened, but today I am one-hundred-percent religious, sitting and learning over here."

In wake of the Pittsburgh massacre, we ask unfortunately experienced terror-stricken Israelis for their advice - how do you rise above the tragedy?

"That's what you have to do", says Berman, "you have to get up and continue, that's what's life about in any way. When we have signs from G-d that we have to strengthen and make ourselves better, we use it as a tool o bring ourselves to a higher level."

The activity of the Kollel is supported by many donors from around the world. Levine expresses his personal gratitude to those who keep his father alive. "It's not only to commemorate", he emphasizes, "rather actually giving them (the victims) some sort of living. So keep on going and contribute as much as you could. Because for me as a son I want to keep him alive obviously, as much as I could."

3. SECURITY CHIEF OPPOSES 'DEATH PENALTY FOR TERRORISTS' BILL
by Hezki Baruch

The director of Israel's internal security agency voiced his opposition Tuesday to legislation proposed by Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu faction which would make it easier for courts to sentence terrorists convicted of murder to the death penalty.

Speaking at the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee Tuesday morning, Shin Bet internal security agency chief Nadav Argaman responded to a question from MK Shuli Mualem (Jewish Home) regarding the bill currently up for consideration.

Argaman responded that he did not believe use of the death penalty would be effective in ongoing efforts to combat Arab terrorism.

While Israel does technically permit use of the death penalty in some cases, it has never been used since the execution of senior Nazi SS official Adolf Eichmann in 1962. The death penalty requires a unanimous decision by a court, and Israeli prosecutors have in nearly all cases avoided pushing for the death penalty.

A bill proposed last year in the Knesset, however, would ease the requirements for sentencing terrorists convicted of murder to death, with only a simple majority of judges required.

The bill passed its preliminary vote in January, but has remained in legislative limbo since then.

On Sunday, Netanyahu gave his backing for the bill, Kan reported Monday morning, during a meeting with coalition leaders.

Earlier on Tuesday, Argaman described the security situation in Judea and Samaria as unstable and "complex", saying that despite the appearance of calm, there had been a large number of attempted terror attacks thwarted recently.

"The situation in the Palestinian arena has been very unstable in the past year," Argaman said.

"In the Gaza Strip we stand between a possible military campaign on the one hand, and an attempt to stabilize the humanitarian situation of the residents of Gaza on the other."

"The reality is very complex. We can say that on the surface we observe relative calm, but we must emphasize that this is on the surface - Hamas is trying with all its might to carry out terrorist attacks from Judea and Samaria with guidance from the Gaza Strip, Turkey and Lebanon."

"We have succeeded in thwarting 480 attacks in the last year, from which we have arrested about 500 individual terrorists," said the head of the Shin Bet security service, adding that "This is a very large amount that can attest to what is happening under the surface. In addition, we succeeded last year in thwarting cyber activity - terror and spying - against the state of Israel."

4. TRAFFIC IN BINYAMIN - 'A NEW TYPE OF TERRORISM'
by Refael Levi

The residents of Binyamin spend every morning on the way to Jerusalem and every evening back from Jerusalem to the communities north of the capital in heavy traffic jams and, despite the work to expand and improve the road, the problem of traffic jams is far from being solved.

The head of the Beit El council, Shai Alon, left early Tuesday morning for the traffic circle near the Israeli town of Adam to direct the movement of Palestinian Authority vehicles into the road.

He said that the army's conduct, that makes it difficult for the residents of Ramallah to leave through the Qalandiya checkpoint, leads many of them to choose the long route via the Ramallah bypass road, causing traffic jams to the residents of Binyamin.

In the video taken by Alon this morning, it can be seen that in the morning there is very heavy traffic from Ramallah to the Ramallah bypass road which creates traffic jams. Within a few minutes, after the army had routed traffic from Ramallah to other directions, the traffic jam was released and Binyamin residents were able to travel smoothly until they entered Jerusalem.

Alon says that this is a new type of terrorism: "If the terror was in the past with rocks, today the terror is in the number of vehicles. The Palestinian Authority has lowered the taxes on the purchase of cars, so everyone can buy a car and all the roads are crowded. These roads are unable to accommodate the level of traffic."

"The very clear solution is that they have to pass through the Qalandiya checkpoint and not Hizma, and then the residents of Beit El and Binyamin will be able to arrive within half an hour, not within two hours."

Alon detailed the next steps he intends to take and announced that "From Sunday, the council offices are moving to the Hizma checkpoint until a complete solution is reached."

5. FARRAKHAN: DEATH TO ISRAEL, US IS THE GREAT SATAN
by David Rosenberg

[youtube:2049340]

The controversial leader of the Chicago-based Nation of Islam movement visited Iran over the weekend, and denounced the Trump administration's decision to reimpose economic sanctions on the Tehran regime after the US withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

Louis Farrakhan, the 85-year-old leader of the fringe movement, travelled to Tehran for the 39th anniversary of takeover of the American embassy in Iran, which was observed in Iran on Sunday.

On November 4th, 1979, in the midst of the Islamic Revolution, Iranian radicals backed by the Ayatollah Khomeini forced their way into the American embassy compound in Tehran and seized the building, holding 52 Americans hostage. The ensuing crisis lasted for over a year, ending with the release of the hostages on January 20th, 1981.

The Nation of Islam leader visited Tehran as a guest of the Islamic Republic on Sunday to celebrate the anniversary of the embassy takeover.

Speaking at an event in Tehran Sunday, Farrakhan excoriated the Trump administration over its decision to restore sanctions on the Iranian regime, after the US dropped out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in May.

During his address, Farrakhan referenced pronouncements by Iran's spiritual leaders that the US is the 'Great Satan' and appeared to back the claim, saying that 'Satan would be actively involved' in trying to undermine Iran.

"I am coming to you from the United States of America, that is gloating over the fact that the president of the United States is going to place on the Islamic Republic the most stringent sanctions that have ever been placed on any nation before," said Farrakhan.

"Is it not true that you have called America the 'Great Satan'? Well, if you believe what you say, then would not Satan be actively involved in trying to destroy a nation that is set up on the belief and practice of submission to the will of God? So we should not be surprised at what Satan does to ill affect the righteous."

"America is making it very hard for Iran to carry out its mission. But if you have the strength to persevere under these trials, the victory will be yours."

During his visit, Farrakhan also appeared on Iranian state television, leading a chant of 'Death to Israel' and 'Death to America' in Farsi.

In October, Farrakhan drew criticism for a video clip, recorded during a public address, in which the Nation of Islam leader compared Jews to termites.

"I'm not an anti-Semite. I'm anti-termite," Farrakhan said.

Farrakhan has long been a controversial figure within the Black Muslim community in Chicago, praising Adolf Hitler as a "very great man", and slamming Judaism as a "gutter religion" during a 1984 speech, leading the US Senate to condemn him in a unanimous 95-0 vote.

Earlier this year, Farrakhan accused Jews of practicing "Satanism" and 'infecting' the world "with poison and deceit".

6. PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY: ISRAEL STOLE OUR SNAKE
by Dalit Halevy

Last Thursday, Israel's Society for the Protection of Nature and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority named the Palestine viper as Israel's national snake.

The Palestine viper, or daboia palaestinae, was selected based on an online vote.

Found across the Levant, from the northern Negev and western Jordan in the south to northern Lebanon and central Syria in the north, the snake is common throughout most of Israel, and in Hebrew is referred to as the 'common viper', or 'common Land of Israel viper'.

The Palestinian Authority protested the move, calling it 'theft' and ignoring what they called the viper's Palestinian heritage.

Imad al-Atrash, the Executive Director of the Palestine Wildlife Society, denounced Thursday's announcement regarding the viper, adding that the struggle over the snake's national identity was part of the larger battle by the PA to preserve 'Palestinian identity'.

Al-Atrash called on outside organizations to join the struggle to recognize the snake as the 'Palestine viper', rather than as the 'Land of Israel viper'.

7. TERRORIST SHOT DURING STABBING ATTACK NEAR KIRYAT ARBA
by David Rosenberg

[youtube:2049281]

An Arab terrorist attempted to stab IDF soldiers in a failed stabbing attack outside of the Israeli town of Kiryat Arba in Judea, south of Jerusalem, Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred near the Elias Junction outside of Kiryat Arba, when a terrorist approached several Israeli civilians and an IDF officer while carrying a knife.

According to initial reports, a soldier spotted the terrorist and opened fire before he was able to reach his intended target. The terrorist was shot and wounded, and is said to be in light condition.

There are no reports of injuries among Israeli security forces.

An IDF spokesperson acknowledge the apparent stabbing attempt, and said the army was investigating the incident.

"A report was received regarding an attempted stabbing attack at Elias Junction adjacent to Kiryat Arba, east of Hebron," the spokesperson said. "The details are being looked into."

The IDF later confirmed that the terrorist had been neutralized, and that no Israeli soldiers had been wounded in the attack.

"An IDF soldier foiled an attempted attack after he spotted a terrorist attempting to stab civilians and an [IDF] officer," the spokesperson said. "The soldier opened fire and neutralized the terrorist, who was evacuated for medical treatment. No soldiers were injured."

8. US BACKS ISRAEL'S MIDDLE EAST RAILWAY INITIATIVE
by Elad Benari

Jason Greenblatt, the US Special Representative for International Negotiations, on Monday expressed support for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz's "Railroads for Peace" initiative.

"Today Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz is in Oman at an international transportation event. He will present a plan for the construction of a railway between Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Let's keep the dialogue going. These efforts support our efforts," tweeted Greenblatt.

[twittervideo:2049335]

Minister Katz said of his visit, "This is a dramatic development that is likely to affect many countries in the region, and it follows many contacts on the matter, which I led with the backing of the prime minister vis-à-vis the American administration and Arab elements in the region."

"The invitation of the government of Oman and the visit are part of a comprehensive move to promote the initiative and strengthen the ties with the pragmatic states in the region," he added.

Katz's visit to Oman follows Netanyahu's surprise visit to the Gulf sultanate several weeks ago, in what marked the first time since 1996 that an Israeli Prime Minister has visited the country.

Following Netanyahu's visit to Oman, an unnamed Palestinian Authority (PA) official said that the sultan of Oman had offered to play a role in mediating talks between Israel and the PA.

Greenblatt has been heading the US efforts to resume peace talks between Israel and the PA. The PA, however, has rejected US attempts to restart peace talks with Israel and has been boycotting the US ever since Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital last December.
