1. US CONSIDERING INCLUDING 'JERUSALEM, ISRAEL' ON PASSPORTS
by Nitzan Keidar

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the Trump administration is considering allowing US citizens born in Jerusalem to list “Jerusalem, Israel” on their US passports.

While the Trump administration recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, State Department policy still does not allow for the indication of Jerusalem as being a part of Israel on passports of US citizens.

“We’re constantly evaluating the way we handle what can be listed on passports,” Pompeo told JNS.“It’s something that’s actively being looked at.”

The announcement comes as a major development after a State Department spokesperson told JNS in October, “The president has made clear that the specific boundaries of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem remain subject to final-status negotiations between the [Israelis and the Palestinian Arabs]."

“We have not changed our practice regarding place of birth on passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad at this time.”

Pro-Israel organizations praised the development to JNS.

B’nai B’rith International CEO and executive vice president Dan Mariaschin praised the development, saying, “it’s encouraging news. This is a logical follow-on to moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, and in the process, corrects a historical wrong which denied this designation for over seven decades.”

“The [US] Supreme Court has determined that the passport issue is within the purview of the administration, which has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” American Zionist Movement president Richard Heideman said. “It is most appropriate for passports for those born in Jerusalem, such as my three grandchildren born at Hadassah Hospital, to be listed as born in Jerusalem, Israel and not simply born in Jerusalem as if they were stateless, which they are not.”

“This is a very important and significant decision which affirms the long-standing fact that Jerusalem is Israel and isn’t in “dispute,’” said Republican Jewish Coalition executive director Matt Brooks. “Once again, President Trump and his administration enacts a policy that the Jewish community has long sought and underscores why he’s the most pro-Israel President in history.”

2. WHERE DO ISRAELI PARTIES STAND ON GAY MARRIAGE?
by Yehonatan Gottleib

Israel’s largest LGBT lobby group polled parties running for the Knesset in this month’s election, asking the major contenders where they stand on the LGBT agenda and core issues like government recognition of same-sex marriage.

According to a report Tuesday by Galei Tzahal, Aguda – Israel's LGBT Task Force mailed parties a request for their positions on the LGBT agenda.

The Likud declined to respond to the letter, answer with only “No response”.

The Yamina party, which includes the Jewish Home, New Right, and National Union factions, responded by saying that it had received the query, and was putting together an official position on the issue.

Neither of the haredi parties received the Aguda – Israel’s LGBT Task Force query.

Yisrael Beytenu, a secular-rightist party which relies heavily on support from the Russian immigrant community, initially responded by saying only that the party backs civil marriage, without elaborating specifically on the issue of gay marriage.

Later, Yisrael Beytenu expanded on their response, saying that the party “supports equal rights and responsibilities for everyone, the idea of live and let live; we back civil marriages and only a national-liberal government without the haredim will be able to advance that.”

On the Left, the three major lists all responded to the Aguda query by affirming their support for “LGBT rights”.

The center-left Blue and White party said it is committed to advancing LGBT rights, and is considering including this plank of its platform as a condition for forming or joining a future government.

The Labor party, which is running on a joint list with Gesher, also said it would promote “LGBT rights”, while the Democratic Union, led by Nitzan Horowitz – who is openly gay – said it would demand the recognition of gay marriage as a condition for joining a coalition government.

The predominantly Arab Joint List - which includes the Communist Hadash faction, the Arab nationalist Balad and Ta’al factions, and the Islamist United Arab List – was divided in its response to the Aguda query.

Joint List chairman Ayman Odeh said Hadash backed the LGBT agenda, while the other three factions within the Joint List refused to response to the question.

Many visitors from the Arab sector also celebrated the Eid al-Adha holiday in the National Parks and Nature Reserves, and hikers from the Haredi sector also took advantage of the intersession vacations for trips in the reserves and parks. In the meantime, we set up about 20 informational and explanatory stations throughout the country where we guided our travelers and equipped them with rules for safe travel."

6. 'MULTIPLE HITS': MISSILES FIRED FROM LEBANON AT NORTHERN ISRAEL
by David Rosenberg

Multiple projectiles were fired from Lebanese territory into northern Israel, landing in or around the town of Avivim, near the Israel-Lebanese border, the IDF reported Sunday afternoon.

According to the preliminary IDF report, the projectiles were anti-tank missiles, which were fired at army vehicles near the border, as well as an IDF base.

An IDF spokesperson said that there were “a number of hits” scored by the missile attack from southern Lebanon, but did not specify if there were any casualties.

“A number of anti- tank missiles were fired from Lebanon towards an IDF base and military vehicles. A number of hits have been confirmed.”

Israeli forces “returned fire at the source of the fire and at targets in southern Lebanon,” the IDF spokesperson continued.

The Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks, adding that it had destroyed an IDF vehicle.

Hezbollah “destroyed a military vehicle on the road to the Avivim barracks, killing and wounding those inside," the terror group said in a statement.

The IDF has ordered that all towns four kilometers or less from the Lebanese border be placed on alert, instructing residents to remain indoors and ordering the opening of public bomb shelters.

Residents have not yet been instructed to evacuate to nearby bomb shelters, however, with the IDF adding that sirens will be sounded should evacuation become necessary.

The IDF has also ordered farmers to cease all activity near the Lebanese border, and has asked drivers to avoid travel on intercity roads in the four-kilometer border zone.

The missiles were fired two days after Hezbollah vowed to attack Israel following an alleged Israeli attack on a facility in Beirut on August 25th.

A report by Kuwait's Al Rai claimed that Hezbollah planned to strike Israeli targets within 72 hours, beginning last Friday.

An IDF helicopter evacuated soldiers from the northern border to Rambam Hospital in Haifa on Sunday afternoon following the firing of anti-aircraft missiles from Lebanon towards Israel by Hezbollah despite the fact that soldiers were uninjured.

The IDF wanted to create a "fog" on the Lebanese side to allow Hezbollah to flaunt its achievement and meanwhile carried out a massive assault on Hezbollah.

In Israel, it was hoped that granting an "achievement" to Hezbollah would allow the incident to end quickly and prevent a deterioration to war.

Videos showing the helicopter with the injured soldiers were distributed on social media, and about an hour after the incident an IDF spokesman officially announced that there were no casualties among IDF soldiers.

"Soldiers who arrived by helicopter were examined in the Rambam emergency room and released without medical treatment," an official hospital statement said.

After the attack and the assassination of terrorists, Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "At this moment I can announce important news - we have no casualties. No one was wounded – not even a scratch."

Earlier on Sunday, the IDF reported: "Two hours ago, a number of anti-aircraft missiles were fired from Lebanon toward an IDF base and a military vehicle in the town of Avivim. A number of hits have been confirmed. The IDF responded with artillery fire toward the source of the fire, aircrafts attacked the anti-aircraft squad."

"The IDF continues to maintain a high level of preparedness - defensive and offensive - for a wide range of scenarios. The restrictions on the civilian area have been removed, with the exception of agricultural work close to the perimeter fence."

8. NASRALLAH IMMEDIATELY AFTER ATTACK: 'INCIDENT OVER'
by Kobi Finkler

A senior security official spoke to military reporters on Monday, expressing satisfaction with Israel's recent assaults in the countries around us, with a view to curbing real security threats.

According to the source, "Yesterday, shortly after the attack in the north and our military response, we received inquiries from three countries seeking to convey from Hariri and Nasrallah the message: 'For Hezbollah, the incident is over."

A day after the fire exchange on the Lebanese border, the official said: "Everything we have done in the last few weeks and days has been according to accurate planning and everything we wanted to do."

According to the senior official, the most important objectives of the State of Israel are preventing Iranian nuclear capability, blocking precision missiles, and preventing Iranian establishment on the ground.

"To prevent this consolidation, we take a lot of action that nobody knows about. This activity is shared by the political, military, and institutional levels."

The senior official emphasizes that "Everything is part of an all-encompassing strategy as we direct the theater in several ways. We acted with extreme precision in several arenas, including possible enemy reactions. If we hadn't acted correctly we'd be in a different reality today."

Yesterday, after Hezbollah operatives fired anti-aircraft missiles at Israel, and after the IDF fired 100 shells in response, Lebanese Prime Minister Sa'ad al-Hariri sought to stop the fire.

Al-Hariri's appeal was to three states; Egypt, France, and the United States. In Israel, they replied that quiet will be met with quiet as long as the other party kept it.

The security source refers to the possibility of assassinating Iran Quds Force Commander Qazem Suleimani, incorrectly saying that "death sentences aren't in the discourse of Judaism."

As for the situation in Gaza, the senior official said: "There's constant irritation by Islamic jihad that complicates things for Hamas. Nevertheless, we see Hamas as the sovereign.

"We have an excellent relationship with the Russians and other countries and we are working with them to further our demands," said the senior security official.
