REPORT: ISRAEL ACCUSED OF PLANTING SPY DEVICES NEAR WHITE HOUSE by Arutz Sheva Staff An investigation by security forces in the United States has led to the suspicion that Israel is behind the placing of eavesdropping equipment on cellphones in the White House area, Politico reported, citing “three former senior US officials with knowledge of the matter.” The miniature surveillance devices in question, colloquially known as “StingRays,” mimic regular cell towers to fool cell phones into giving them their locations and identity information. According to Politico, they also can capture the contents of calls and data use. Based on forensic analysis, the FBI and other agencies working on the case felt confident that Israeli agents had placed the devices, according to the former officials, several of whom the report said served in top intelligence and national security posts. However, according to one of the officials, the Trump administration took no action against Israel following the conclusions of the US security agencies. “The reaction ... was very different than it would have been in the last administration,” the official said. “With the current administration, there are a different set of calculations in regard to addressing this.” The Israeli Prime Minister's Office later released a statement blasting the report, calling the claims of Israeli spying "a blatant lie." "There is a longstanding commitment, and a directive from the Israeli government not to engage in any intelligence operations in the US. This directive is strictly enforced without exception," the PMO said. 2. LEBANESE BUSINESSMAN EN ROUTE TO BEIRUT DISAPPEARS IN ETHIOPIA by Arutz Sheva Staff Hassan Jaber, a Lebanese businessman from the construction industry who works in the eastern African country of Gabon, was abducted earlier this week in Ethiopia, Israel Hayom reported on Thursday morning, citing family members of the businessman who spoke with the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Akhbar newspaper reported Thursday morning. The Lebanese businessman has previously lived in the town of Batha in southern Lebanon, which has members from Hezbollah and the Shi'ite Amal movement, according to his family members who spoke to the Lebanese newspaper. According to them, he was interrogated in December 2017 by the intelligence agencies in Gabon. His family members suspect that the Mossad is behind the kidnapping. They denied Jaber had any ties to Hezbollah or any other political official in Lebanon. Jabber arrived at Addis Ababa Airport to board a continuing flight to Lebanon, but was prevented from doing so, and did not continue on the connecting flight to Beirut, according to the report. At this time, no one knows what happened to the Lebanese businessman. However, Al-Akhbar said that before boarding, the airline worker told Jaber, who was looking for something in a suitcase, to do so on the side to speed up the line. Subsequently, Jaber was prevented from boarding a minibus leading to the boarding point. After the businessman's uncle had already boarded the flight, the plane's doors closed and the pilot took off without Jaber boarding. The uncle and other family members are sure the airline knows details of Jaber's fate. 3. HOW MUCH DO THE HAREDIM COST US? by Mordechai Sones The United Torah Judaism Party launched a campaign video that seeks to address the heart of issues being used by some politicians in the current election campaign to attack the haredi community: "Soon, also this election will end, and Liberman and Lapid's incitement against the haredim will return to its regular proportions," the video begins. "But still, something will remain - the disinformation. That sour and poisonous feeling against those who only take." "So listen to something," says narrator Tal Ohr. "It just isn't so." "According to studies," continues Ohr, citing Central Bureau of Statistics data, "the sector who volunteers the most is the haredi sector. "In numbers: A 40% volunteer rate - more than twice the general population, translating into three-million hours of giving, a set of values that saves the taxpayer billions of shekels. "You must have heard of the national bone marrow bank that saved the lives of 2,000 people. Did you know this bank is wholly volunteer-run? The leaders of that very Ezer m'Tziyon Association that was founded by Chanaiya Cholak, and provides help to the ill with 30,000 volunteers, the vast majority of whom are haredim. An association whose return for their giving equals hundreds-of-millions of shekels. "And the list is long: Yad Sarah, United Hatzalah, Zichron Menachem, Yedidim on the Roads; who would have believed? Those haredim whose 'extortion' doesn't even reach one-half-of-one-percent of the State budget also give back in time and money, and a lot more than they take. "And if those whose incitement is their entire message say differently - just check the numbers." The video concludes with the United Torah Judaism emblem and facsimile of the party ballot slip with its "Gimel" (ג). 📹 To watch the video: https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/268787 4. HASSIDIC REBBES CONCERNED: 'SAY PSALMS' by Mordechai Sones Belz Hasidim came out last night calling for mass recitation of chapter 121 in Psalms: "I lift my eyes to the mountains; from where does my help come?" Belzers say the Rebbe is concerned about the rise of parties seeking to suppress the political power of the haredi parties. A few days ago, a similar call was published by the Agudat Yisrael Council of Torah Sages. "According to the decision of the Torah Council at its meeting in Jerusalem on Wednesday, the Jewish public is called to say a special Psalms chapter in view of the difficult spiritual and material situation in Eretz Yisrael, where those who hate us have raised their heads: Religious persecutors against Judaism from within, and our enemies who hate Israel from without," the statement read. "The public is called to add after the daily morning prayers Psalm 121, 'My help is from the L-rd, Maker of Heaven and Earth', in the hope that the prayer of the many will not be despised." 5. SIRENS IN THE SOUTH, IDF ATTACKS IN GAZA by Elad Benari IDF fighter jets attacked a number of terrorist targets in a military compound belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in northern Gaza overnight Wednesday. The attack was carried out in retaliation for the rocket fire from Gaza into Israeli territory earlier in the evening. "The IDF will continue to act against attempts to harm Israeli civilians and considers the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip," the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said. “Red Color” sirens were sounded on Wednesday evening near Kibbutz Zikim and Moshav Mavki'im, located in the Gaza envelope in southern Israel. According to reports, several rockets were fired from Gaza toward the area and the Iron Dome system was activated. The IDF stated that the sirens were a false alarm. 📹 To watch the video: https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/268761 Earlier, terrorists from the Gaza Strip fired three rockets at Israel. A “Red Color” siren was heard in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai and in Moshav Netiv HaAsara in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. One of the rockets exploded in a greenhouse near one of the communities. Another rocket exploded in the yard of a home, causing damage. There were no physical injuries. In retaliation, an IDF tank attacked two Hamas military posts in northern Gaza. Overnight Tuesday, IDF fighter jets attacked about 15 terror targets in the northern and central Gaza Strip, including a number of targets at a military site for production of weapons, a number of targets in compound belonging to Hamas’ naval force and an offensive terrorist tunnel belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced. The statement said that the air strikes were carried out in response to the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on Tuesday evening. On Tuesday evening around 9:07 p.m., the Red Color sirens were heard in the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon and in the industrial areas near the two cities. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said two launches were identified from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory and were intercepted by the Iron Dome. At the time of the siren, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was in the middle of a speech at a political conference in Ashdod. The speech was stopped, Netanyahu was taken off the stage and the participants were evacuated. 6. NETANYAHU VOWS TO APPLY SOVEREIGNTY OVER JORDAN VALLEY by Gary Willig 📹 To watch the video: https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/268693 Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu held a press conference Tuesday evening to make a "dramatic statement about the Trump Administration's "Deal of the Century." "We are on the eve of the elections. President Trump said he will present his Deal of the Century few days after the election and it is just around the corner. This presents us with a great challenge and a great opportunity to apply Israeli sovereignty to Judea and Samaria and other areas," Netanyahu said. The prime minister announced that after the elections he would apply Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea area. "There is one place that Israeli sovereignty can be applied immediately after the elections if Israeli citizens let me in. Today I announce my intention to apply Israeli sovereignty to the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea," he declared. "This will be our defensive belt to the east. It ensures that we will never be a country a few miles wide," Netanyahu said. He added that this plan would only be implemented if he was reelected. “This is a democracy. I won’t do anything without a clear mandate. So I’m asking for a mandate, to do this thing that enjoys a broad consensus, to define at long last Israel’s permanent borders, promising that Judea and Samaria don’t turn into Gaza." “We haven’t had this kind of opportunity since the [1967] Six Day War, and may not have it against for another 50 years.” 7. TRUMP FIRES BOLTON by Gary Willig US President Donald Trump has fired his National Security Adviser, John Bolton. "I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning," Trump announced on Twitter Tuesday. "I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week," the president wrote. Bolton responded by claiming: "I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, 'Let's talk about it tomorrow.'" Boton's firing follows the surprise announcement over the weekend that the Trump Administration had invited delegations from Afghanistan to Camp David for peace talks, including representatives of the Taliban, and that President Trump had cancelled the negotiations. Bolton had opposed the negotiations with the Taliban, according to CNN. Watch - Arutz Sheva speaks with Amb. Bolton: 📹 To watch the video: https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/268695 8. NETANYAHU DEPARTS FOR MEETING WITH PUTIN by Ido Ben Porat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with reporters before his departure to the city of Sochi, Russia, where he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu. "This is a very important journey at the present time. We are working on several arenas to ensure Israel's security against Iran's attempts and metastases to attack us in the Syrian arena. This is a key arena and it is important for us to preserve the IDF's freedom of action against Iranian, Hezbollah and other targets. The common goal we agree on, which is far from being achieved, is the removal of all Iranian forces from Syria," Netanyahu said. "This visit is a periodic visit," he continued. “I do not stop dealing with Israel's security because of the elections, and Iran does not stop its attempts to harm us. I am attentive to Israel's security needs during an election period as well.” He also addressed American conduct against Iran. "President Trump imposed harsh sanctions on Iran two days ago. If the US and the President want to change their policies, I'm sure they will do so under the same policy of pressure and various demands from Iran. I conveyed all the required messages on the issue through the direct pipelines to President Trump and his advisers." He said there was no surprise in Russian condemnation for his declaration about sovereignty over the Jordan Valley. "What did you think they would say? We received condemnations from Arab countries, but there was no tsunami of condemnations." "The Americans have said that the plan presented by the prime minister for sovereignty does not contradict President Trump's Deal of the Century. It's an incredible statement. I am paving the way to realizing our security borders, and this is a historic turnaround," he added. Netanyahu said that the security situation in Gaza would soon require a decision. "Hamas would like to rule the area, but it does not exercise its authority as a sovereign. If they do not, there will be no choice but to enter into a broad campaign. There may be military steps that will precede it, but if a broad campaign is required, the IDF is preparing plans and responses. Hamas understands these things. I don't go to war easily. I think of our soldiers and our citizens. " The prime minister also addressed the political situation. "Regarding Smotrich and Shaked, it doesn't matter whether Orit Struk enters the Knesset or not. Even if they lose a few seats, they pass the electoral threshold anyway. But if the Likud gets less than Gantz and Lapid, we will lose the elections." Regarding Otzma Yehudit, he said, "In our polls, Otzma Yehudit passes the electoral threshold." 📹 To watch the video: https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/268786 | |
