1. TEEN INJURED IN RAMMING ATTACK STILL FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The condition of Nahum Nevies, the 17-year-old boy who was injured Friday in a ramming attack, is still very serious, but he is now stable.

On Sunday, Nahum experienced a physical response to pain. He is still sedated and on a respirator in the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem.

However, a statement from Hadassah Ein Kerem clarified that Nahum is still in very serious condition and his life is still in danger.

Nahum's sister Noam, who was also injured in the ramming attack, is now considered to be lightly to modrately injured.

The family requested that the public continue praying for Nahum Elimelech ben (son of -ed.) Zahava Rivka, and Noam bat (daughter of - ed.) Zahava Rivka.

Nahum and Noam were injured early Friday afternoon when a terrorist rammed into them as they made their way to a protected bus stop near the entrance to the town of Elazar in Gush Etzion. Noam suffered abrasions and injuries to her limbs, while Nahum suffered a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.

An off-duty police officer neutralized the terrorist who rammed them.

2. CALLS TO MURDER POLICE OFFICER WHO KILLED TERRORIST LAST WEEK
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Numerous calls to murder the Israeli police officer who killed one of the terrorists in last week's stabbing attack at the entrance to the Temple Mount were issued after a photo singling out the officer was posted Sunday to Facebook by the Hamas-affiliated Shehab News Agency.

"The extremist Zionist policeman circled in blue who shot the two Jerusalemite boys, Nassim Abu Rumi and Hamoudeh al-Sheikh, two days ago was also the one who took furniture from the prayer house at the Gate of Mercy last night," read the post on the popular Facebook page with over seven millions followers.

In response to the post, dozens of commenters issued calls to murder the police officer. "There are heroes in Jerusalem, the time of his stabbing is coming soon," read one of the comments.

Other comments included: "Which type of car should I run him over with?" "His end is near," "Allah will deal with him," and "His days will come to an end God willing."

The Arab Desk of the Zionist organization Im Tirtzu, which discovered the post, immediately notified the police of the death threats.

"This is a serious case in which a policeman is facing death threats while fulfilling his duty on the Temple Mount," said Tom Nisani, Director of Im Tirtzu's Arab Desk.

"The time has come to treat the Temple Mount like any other sovereign place in Israel and crack down on the Arab-Islamist social networks that frequently incite violence against policemen and Jewish worshippers."

Nisani continued: "The writing is on the wall and we must do something before the next disaster. These inciters belong behind bars."

3. ISRAELI PROFESSOR CALLS ISRAEL 'RACIST REGIME'
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Professor Eyal Sivan, a lecturer in Sapir College's graduate program for filmmaking, signed an open letter last week calling to boycott the international Berlin Pop-Kultur Festival due to its sponsorship by the Israeli embassy.

The festival, to be held from August 21 to August 23 in Berlin, is an annual festival that brings together musicians from across the world.

The open letter, published on website of "Artists for Palestine UK," was signed by Prof. Sivan and 13 other Israeli artists who dubbed Israel a "racist regime" and called to boycott the festival.

"As Israeli artists, musicians, and filmmakers, we support the Palestinian call to boycott Pop-Kultur Berlin festival 2019, given its complicity with Israel’s racist regime," wrote the artists.

The signatories also echoed other fringe Israeli academics who criticized Germany's recent law equating BDS to anti-Semitism.

"We agree with 240 Jewish and Israeli scholars who called on the German government not to endorse the recent anti-Palestinian Bundestag resolution," continued the letter.

"We also agree with Ishay Rosen Zvi, a Talmud professor at Tel Aviv University, who decried the attempts in Germany and elsewhere 'to erase differences between criticism of Zionism, criticism of Israel, criticism of the policies of the government of Israel and antisemitism.’"

Matan Peleg, CEO of the pro-Israel watchdog Im Tirtzu that first reported the letter, said that this is another example of the harm caused by radical Israelis.

"While tremendous amounts of resources are invested in Israel and throughout the world to combat the international BDS movement, there are radical Israeli professors undermining these efforts by promoting BDS from within Israel," said Peleg.

"This is further evidence of how radical Israelis play a leading role in promoting BDS and delegitimization against Israel," continued Peleg, "and universities must immediately work to root out this severe phenomenon."

4. TODAY: LAUNCH OF WEST BANK JEWISH POPULATION STATS FB PAGE
by Sharona Eshet-Kohen

More and more academics, politicians, and thought leaders across the political spectrum are abandoning the two-state solution, realizing it's no longer a viable option. That same trend is being documented in a well-established monthly curated email newsletter, West Bank Jewish Population Stats, which is now launching a parallel Facebook page to provide a taste of the newsletter's content.

The Facebook page serves as a complement to the email newsletter, containing the most exciting and relevant articles surrounding the failed two-state solution and the extensive Jewish population growth in Judea and Samaria.

The newsletter and Facebook page each offer different value:

Subscribers to the e-newsletter automatically receive a free copy of the West Bank Jewish Population Stats report, updated to January 3, 2019, and will continue to receive the annually updated report each January. Additionally, on the first of each month, email subscribers will receive a curated newsletter of the best and most relevant articles about the growing Jewish population in Judea and Samaria, and the growing impossibility of the two-state solution.

5. CONDITION OF TEENAGE BOY INJURED IN RAMMING ATTACK IMPROVES
by Arutz Sheva Staff

The condition of Nahum Nevies, the teenage boy injured Friday in a ramming attack, improved slightly.

The family added that the condition of his sister Noam, 19, has also improved, and she was transferred from Shaare Zedek Medical Center to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, where Nahum is currently hospitalized, to make things easier for the family.

Nahum is still in very serious condition, and the public is asked to continue praying for his recovery.

Noam and Nahum, 17, were injured when a terrorist rammed into them as they made their way to a protected bus stop near the entrance to the town of Elazar in Gush Etzion. Nahum had spent the week vacationing with his family in northern Israel, but cut his vacation short when he was called to be tested for entry into an elite IDF unit. He and Noam, who is currently doing her National Service, were on their way to rejoin the family in northern Israel when the terrorist rammed into them.

Noam suffered abrasions and injuries to her limbs, and was declared to be in moderate condition, while Nahum sustained an injury to his head and is sedated and on a respirator.

The terrorist who rammed them was neutralized by a police officer at the scene.

The public is asked to pray for Nahum Elimelech ben (son of -ed.) Zahava Rivka, and Noam bat (daughter of - ed.) Zahava Rivka.

Residents of Elazar noted that for a long time, they have been asking the Defense Ministry to secure the path leading from their town to the bus stop. They also said they warned senior Defense Ministry officials that terrorists would use the unprotected path to carry out ramming attacks on civilians walking from the town to the protected bus stop. Now, they hope the Defense Ministry will approve their request and secure the path.

6. EXPOSED: WHAT ILHAN OMAR AND RASHIDA TLAIB WERE PLANNING TO DO
by Ben Sales, JTA, & A7 Staff

By now it seems clear that Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are not going to be visiting Israel or the Palestinian Authority-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria.

Israel’s government announced Thursday that it would not allow the Democratic congresswomen to make their scheduled visit this weekend because both have declared support for the Israel boycott movement. A 2017 law entitles the State to deny entry to boycott activists.

(Tlaib was granted entry on a humanitarian trip to visit her grandmother in the West Bank. First she accepted, but hours later rejected.)

Explaining the decision, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu cited the lawmakers’ itinerary, which he said “reveals that the sole purpose of their visit is to harm Israel and increase incitement against it.”

What was on this itinerary? Gili Cohen, a reporter for Kan, Israel’s public broadcaster, shared a copy of the schedule on Twitter.

Where they would have gone

In broad strokes, the itinerary — titled “Delegation to Palestine” — took Tlaib and Omar through major Palestinian Authority (PA) population centers in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and to a string of meetings with pro-PA nonprofits and activists, as well as international human rights groups.

It featured no meetings with Israeli officials of any political persuasion, including Arab lawmakers. The plan also did not feature any extended time spent within Israel’s internationally recognized borders.

(On Friday, Omar tweeted that “I planned to hold meetings with members of the Knesset (both Jewish and Arab) along with Israeli security officials.”)

The lawmakers were scheduled to meet a PA official, Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

One Israeli nonprofit, the left-wing anti-IDF B’Tselem human rights group, was to be present at one of those meetings, along with three other non-Israeli organizations. And the congresswomen were to receive a tour of Hevron from Breaking the Silence, a left-wing, anti-IDF Israeli group.

“I would’ve loved to take @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib on our tour of Hebron,” tweeted Avner Gvaryahu, who would have given the tour. “There’s no joy in seeing or showing the harsh reality of the territories, but change will only come when we face up to the truth.”

The would-be trip contrasts with a Democratic congressional delegation to Israel taken earlier this month by 41 representatives and sponsored by an organization affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). That delegation met with both Israeli and PA officials and activists. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, however, refused to meet with a parallel Republican delegation.

Omar and Tlaib’s trip was to start with a lunch with staff at the US Embassy in Israel. From there they were going to meet with UNRWA, the United Nations agency that aids “Palestinian refugees” in perpetuating their status, before moving on to meetings in Jerusalem’s Arab neighborhoods.

On the second day, Omar and Tlaib planned to visit Jerusalem’s holy sites, including the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. They additionally planned to visit the Al-Aqsa mosque, which is located at the Temple Mount, a Jewish holy site which Muslims claim is theirs. The remainder of the trip took them to meetings and tours the cities of Hevron, Bethlehem and Ramallah, including at a “refugee camp.”

Who organized the trip

Miftah, a PA NGO chaired by Ashrawi, organized the trip. Its website claims its mission is to “promote the principles of democracy and good governance within various components of Palestinian society” and to “engage local and international public opinion and official circles on the Palestinian cause.”

The group, like many PA civil society organizations, supports the movement to boycott Israel. But it has also praised PA suicide bombers and published an age-old anti-Semitic stereotype, for which it later apologized. Netanyahu described Miftah as “an avid supporter of BDS, and among whose members are those who have expressed support for terrorism against Israel.”

A report on the group’s site from 2006 about PA women in the second intifada praises Wafa Idris, who killed one Israeli civilian and injured 150 people in a 2002 suicide bombing in downtown Jerusalem. The report says Idris, the first female suicide bomber of the second intifada, “marked the beginning of a string of Palestinian women dedicated to sacrificing their lives for the cause.”

Years later, in 2013, Miftah staffer Nawaf Al Zaru posted an article on its site criticizing President Barack Obama for hosting a Passover seder at the White House. In the article, Al Zaru repeated a false accusation that Jews kill non-Jewish children and use their blood in religious rituals.

“Does Obama in fact know the relationship, for example, between ‘Passover’ and ‘Christian blood’..?! Or ‘Passover’ and ‘Jewish blood rituals?!’” Al Zaru wrote. “Much of the chatter and gossip about historical Jewish blood rituals in Europe are real and not fake as they claim; the Jews used the blood of Christians in the Jewish Passover.”

At first the group defended the article by saying the blogger who first criticized it had “wrongly accused MIFTAH and Dr. Ashrawi of promoting Jewish blood libel during Passover through its publication of an Arabic-language article that briefly addressed the subject.” But the group deleted the article from its site, apologized and said it disciplined Al Zaru.

“The said staffer has been reprimanded and all our staff has been informed as to the disgusting and repulsive phenomena of blood libel or accusation, including its use against Jews,” the apology said.

In a statement, Miftah called the ban on Omar and Tlaib “an affront to the American people and their representatives. It is an assault on the Palestinian people’s right to reach out to decision-makers and other actors from around the world.” The group said it wanted to facilitate Omar and Tlaib’s “direct contact with the Palestinian people, who are subject to Israel’s cruel regime of colonization, oppression and land grab.”

Ashrawi has not returned a Jewish Telegraphic Agency request for comment.

This was not the first congressional delegation to PA areas sponsored by Miftah. Politico first reported Friday that Miftah co-sponsored a trip by five Democratic congressmen to Israel in 2016 that was allowed into Israel without a problem. The participants were Matt Cartwright, Dan Kildee, Hank Johnson, Luis Gutierrez and Mark Pocan.

The itinerary of that trip was similar to Omar and Tlaib’s would-be visit, with the exception that the representatives did meet with Arab-Israeli lawmakers. Other than that, the trip was centered on visiting PA areas and Arab cities in Israel, and on meeting with PA activists and groups.

But while both Omar and Tlaib support boycotting Israel, all of the congressmen had been to Israel previously or otherwise had spoken out in support of Israel, though they have also criticized its policies, at times harshly. All five were endorsed by JStreetPAC, the political funding arm of the liberal Israel lobby.

J Street PAC did not endorse Tlaib or Omar.

Sirens sounded Saturday night in the city of Sderot, the community of Ibim, the kibbutzim of Gevim and Nir Am, the Havat Shikmim sheep ranch, and in the Sapir College.

Residents reported hearing explosions, but there have been no reports of injuries or damage. The Iron Dome missile defense system was activated.

"A siren was set off in city of Sderot and in the kibbutzes of Gevim and Nir Am, in the Sapir College, in the town of Ibim, and in the Havat Shikmim ranch," the IDF confirmed. "Details are being investigated."

A later IDF statement read: "Following the reports regarding sirens that sounded a few minutes ago, three projectiles were recognized to have been launched from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. Two projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome aerial defense system."

Reports also say a rocket fell in the courtyard of a Sderot home.

A Magen David Adom (MDA) spokesperson said: "At 9:10p.m. a report was received at MDA's Lachish Regional Dispatch for a rocket which landed in the Sderot area."

"NO bodily injuries were sustained in the incident. MDA EMTs and Paramedics are treating a 30 year old female for a panic attack.

"MDA EMTs and Paramedics are treating six people, two of whom sustained minor injuries while running to the shelter: A 40-year-old man who fell from his electric bicycle and a woman who fell in her home. In addition, MDA teams are treating four people with panic attacks, of which one, a 76 year old woman, is being evacuated to Barzilai Hospital. Two others include a 30-year-old women and a man did not require evacuation."

MDA Senior EMT and Medi-Cycle First Responder Nir Castliano, a Sderot resident recalled: "Immediately upon hearing the Red Alert, my family and I entered the shelter, while I had my MDA radio on me. Several moments later, I received report of a woman with a panic attack who had fainted in a public park."

"I immediately rode there on my Medi-Cycle. I arrived quickly, at the same time as the MICU. While we were treating her, I was dispatched to a near by bus stop for a 30 year old woman who had fainted. I provided immediate medical treatment including lying her down, and raising her legs, after which she recovered. Her family then came and took her home.

"An approximately 40 year old man, who had seen us treating her, approached me and told me that he had injured his leg when getting off his bike during the Red Alert [siren]. I assessed his injuries and he was not in need of evacuation to the hospital."

A statement from Barzilai Medical Center said: "A 79-year-old woman injured while running for shelter arrived at Barzilai Medical Center suffering pains in her chest. She is currently being treated in the emergency room."

On Friday evening, the Israel Air Force attacked two Hamas underground terrorist infrastructures in northern and central Gaza on Friday night, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed.

According to the statement, the air strikes were carried out in retaliation for the rocket fire from Gaza on Friday evening.
