1. Poll: Likud 30, Blue & White 29, Yemina 11by Arutz Sheva Staff The Likud is poised to win this September’s Knesset election, a new poll shows, but still has no clear path to forming a government. A new poll, conducted by the Midgam agency on behalf of Channel 12 and published Tuesday afternoon shows the Likud winning 30 seats, five less than it won in April, but more than its rival, the center-left Blue and White party, which is projected to fall from 35 seats to just 29. According to the survey, the Yemina party – formerly known as the United Right – would win 11 seats, as would the Arab Joint List party, which won a total of 10 seats in April on two separate tickets. The Yemina party’s constituent factions currently have five seats. Avidgor Liberman’s secular right-wing Yisrael Beytenu party would double its strength, rising from five to 10 seats, while the haredi parties would lose a total of one seat, with United Torah Judaism winning eight seats, compared to seven for Shas. On the left, the joint ticket of the Labor and Gesher parties would win seven seats, an increase of one mandate over Labor’s current six seats. The Democratic Camp, a union of the far-left Meretz party with Ehud Barak’s Israel Democratic Party would also win seven seats. Meretz currently has four seats in the Knesset. While the right-wing – religious bloc would win a clear majority of 66 seats, compared to 54 for the left-wing – Arab bloc, Yisrael Beytenu has vowed to block the formation of a narrow rightist government. That leaves the right-wing bloc with just 56 seats, five short of a majority. Tuesday’s poll results are nearly identical to those of the previous Midgam poll, released last Monday. The only difference in seat allocation in this week’s poll is the rise of one seat for UTJ, from seven in last week’s to eight in today’s poll, with a corresponding drop of one seat for the Democratic Camp, from eight in last week’s poll to seven today. The two smaller right-wing parties, Zehut and Otzma Yehudit, gained ground this week, yet remain below the 3.25% minimum threshold. In last week’s Midgam poll, both parties received 2.0% of the vote, while in Tuesday’s poll, Zehut rose to 2.9% and Otzma to 2.7%. 2. Ambassador Friedman consoles family of terror victimby Mordechai Sones United States Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, arrived to pay a condolence call on Monday afternoon at the home of Dvir Sorek's family in Ofra. Ambassador Friedman rose this morning from the seven-day mourning for the death of his mother, Adelaide Friedman, who passed away last week and was laid to rest in New York. After leaving the Sorek family home, the ambassador tweeted on his official Twitter account: "Rough week: mourned the passing of my beloved mother, mourned the calamities that befell the Jewish people on the ninth day of Av, and mourned with the Sorek family the murder of their beloved son. May all those in mourning be comforted from Heaven." Shortly thereafter, Friedman tweeted and thanked the many consolers who visited him during the seven days of his mother's passing. "It is very comforting that even those with whom you have political disagreements set them aside to participate in mourning for my mother," the ambassador tweeted. [twittervideo:2061672] 3. El Al stewardess dies after being infected with measlesby Orly Harari A stewardess of Israel’s El Al airline died Tuesday, following a months-long battle with measles. The 43-year-old stewardess was infected with the measles virus during a flight from New York to Israel five months ago. After she was infected, the stewardess was hospitalized in serious condition at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba in central Israel after she was found unconscious and struggling to breathe. During her hospitalization, the stewardess’ condition deteriorated, and she was transferred to the quarantine section of the hospital’s intensive care wing. On Tuesday, doctors at Meir hospital declared her death, following the five-month struggle. 4. Attorney: Family of girl found tied up in bathroom is 'normal'by Arutz Sheva Staff The family of a 5-year-old girl found tied in her home's bathroom is "normal" and the father was "surprised" that his daughter was tied up, the father's attorney said. In an interview with 103 FM Radio, Hai Uzan, the father's attorney said the parents "deny the charges, the abuse, and everything that is believed to have occurred in their apartment." "Their version is that they left the apartment with their youngest three children, allowing the girl to sleep and relying on the neighbors to keep an eye out for her. At some point they received a phone call from a neighbor who had arrived at the building, He called the father to say that he heard screams from the apartment. The father immediately left everything and ran home, where he met police officers." When asked why the girl was not documented in the Immigration and Population Authority's records, Uzan told 103 FM: "The family's situation is not clear to me. It's a normal family, the father is remarried, they have four young children and are not known to the police. There have been no complaints. Their socioeconomic situation is fine, the father is normal, he works a proper job. He was surprised to find the girl like that in the apartment, he said he left a few hours earlier and returned surprised. Other than that I don't know." Israeli media has reported that the girl suffered both wounds and neglect. However, Uzan said he heard that only from the media, adding that "There has not yet been a court discussion on the issue. Today they will be brought for an extension of their arrest and the advocates will try to get details of the incident. The parents themselves are surprised. They're not known to the Welfare Authority, there were no previous complaints. The police will examine the girl's version of the story via a child interrogator, and it will shed light on the case and those involved in the story." Uzan also said that he does not believe the girl has special needs: "She studies in a regular school. If she had special needs they would be known to the Welfare Authority. They love her and take care of her. And maybe she's not known to the Welfare Authority because she's not registered in the Immigration and Population Authority's records. That obviously raises a lot of additional questions regarding the responsibility of the Health Ministry and Welfare Ministry to identify such a case." Mako quoted the girl's parents as saying: "We did not tie up, we did not abuse, and certainly we did not neglect our daughter." "The interrogators were told that the father left the girl sleeping and has no idea who might have tied her up. He firmly said that there has been no abuse or neglect." Meanwhile, the Lod municipality has clarified that the girl is from the Palestinian Authority. "The family in question is from the Arab sector of society and is not known to the Welfare Authority. The mother is a resident of the Palestinian Authority and the girl is not in the Immigration and Population Authority's records," the municipality said. "We are waiting for the completion of the interrogations and we will do anything required of us to ensure the safety and welfare of the children." 5. 'Aimed at highest possible: State leadership'by Arutz Sheva Staff The leaders of the United Right Party tonight launched their election campaign at an event where they revealed the name of the list was changed to "Yemina" - "Rightward". At the event held at the Kfar Maccabiah Hotel, the election slogan was also launched: "Israel wants right." The ballot letters of the list remain טב - 'tet-bet'. Party Chairwoman Ayelet Shaked said in her speech that "since that disaster [disengagement], and in view of its consequences that haunt us every day, the public has learned lessons, and realized that if we desire to live, we must choose the Right. The public is moving to the Right, but finds itself repeatedly dragged against its will to the Left. It doesn't have to be that way. "Believe me: From my position in government I saw nothing different than what I saw at home (a barb aimed at those using the Hebrew adage that what 'one sees from here is not what one sees from there' - to excuse the gap between campaign promises and government actions, ed.). The whole difference is that at the government table I saw it much more clearly. Not only did we see it, we also proved it," Shaked added. She noted that "over the past four years, we have proven that we are the only Right which is not afraid to turn its ideology into a working plan, and which doesn't betray its values but translates them into actions. The only Right which has proven that 'if you believe there is nothing to fear' (a popular song, ed.)." Shaked spoke of the new name of the party. "Right isn't just a name - it's also the essence. Right is the direction we want to lead Israel. Right is the spirit of the generations blowing in our sails. Right is what the people of Israel want - and don't really get." "The Right is what the founding fathers were, the Labor movement people who saw in the Bible inspiration and great value and settled all parts of the Land of Israel, including Judea and Samaria. The Right is a combination of the Jewish Home, the National Union, and the New Right. I won't deny it. We don't have a consensus on every issue. But on one issue we are unanimous: The challenges before us are greater than the differences between us, and so our strength lies in our unity and not our uniqueness," she added. She says, "We realized that only together can we work towards a settlement in Judea and Samaria once and for all. We realized that only together can we open the Supreme Court to other voices and restore democracy to the people. We realized that only together would we uphold Israel's tradition and Israeli teachings, against Liberman and Lapid's cynical alliance. Only together can we build a free and flourishing economy liberated from the power of labor committees and the rule of monopolies. An economy that sees the entrepreneur and business owners as the pillars of the Israeli economy. "We also realized that the world of values and vision of the Right is in real danger, and two months ago everything was for sale to Gabay and his partners. Gabay went on his way, but the danger remains. The danger of an ideological liquidation sale is still here. There, on the golden sands of Gush Katif, I realized another thing: With all my love for Israeli high-tech, I'm going to the political field and will aim the highest I can, to lead the country. I intend to do everything so that there are no more failures that will turn into a lamentation for the ages. "We've been given a second chance; there won't be a third chance. Without a strong, ideological Right, a Likud government will be established with the Left. For those who want the Right, there's no alternative but Yemina," Shaked concluded. Minister Betzalel Smotrich addressed the words that Prime Minister Netanyahu directed at him yesterday. "When we have to be polite we will be and when we need to be sharp we will be as well. We have a heart and we are attentive to the people. When you speak from the heart and from pain it sounds that way. "Smotrich isn't Hanna Bavly (the Israeli Emily Post, ed.) The things that were written were written with great pain. The court's decision disrespected Judaism and everyone who believes in its values. Out of the pain, hard words were said that should not be said between a minister and the Prime Minister and for that I am sorry," said Minister Smotrich. Education Minister Rabbi Rafi Peretz added, "Tonight brings a clear statement: Yemina is the list of religious Zionism and Right-leaning voters. For those who are proud of their flag, 'Tet-Bet' is their ballot. For those who are connected to the Torah of Israel, Tet-Bet is their ballot. Whoever is connected to the People of Israel - tet-bet is their ballot. Anyone who wants to keep the Land of Israel Right, tet-bet is his list. On election day vote tet-bet - Yemina." In recent weeks, the party's leaders have been debating a number of names for the list, including "Rightward" and "Right of Israel". "Finally, the name 'Yemina' - 'Rightward' was chosen because it expresses the clear goal to which members of the list want to lead government and the Knesset. Rightward - in economics, in settlement, in law, in security. Right is what the public wants but doesn't get from elections. We're going to pull the ship's steering wheel in that direction,” the party said. [video:2061695] [video:2061693] [video:2061687] [album:open:11272] 6. Watch: Terrorists who murdered Dvir Sorek capturedby Arutz Sheva Staff [video:2061643] Israeli police released footage Sunday evening from the arrest operation which led to the capture of two Palestinian Authority terrorists suspected in the murder of IDF soldier and hesder yeshiva student Dvir Sorek. Two of the those arrested, who were found in their beds, are Nassir Salah Khalil Issafara, 24, and Qassam Aaraf Khalil Issafara, 30. Neither of them were able to reach their weapons and act against the security forces. The terrorists' identities were known to security forces from an early stage in the investigation. They were found mostly by analysis of security cameras in the area. During their arrest, a violent riot erupted in the village, with approximately 100 Palestinian Authority residents throwing rocks at Israeli security forces. The security forces responded with riot dispersal techniques. 7. Tisha B'Av with the Trump familyby Arutz Sheva Staff President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, tweeted Sunday about the traditional Jewish fast day of Tisha B’Av, which memorializes the destruction of the two temples in Jerusalem by the Babylonian and Roman empires. “From sundown last night to sundown tonight, Jews around the world observe Tisha B'Av, an annual day of mourning and fast when we remember the destruction of the Temple and other tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people,” Ivanka tweeted. “May all observing experience a meaningful Tisha B'Av.” Earlier on Sunday, Ivanka also tweeted a blessing to Muslims observing the Eid al-Adha festival, which began Sunday night and ends Thursday. “Eid Mubarak to Muslims all around the world celebrating Eid al-Adha! Wishing you health, happiness and joy!” 8. Smotrich not dismissed from governmentby Arutz Sheva Staff Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Transport Minister Betzalel Smotrich today, in light of the clashes between them in the past day. No further details were provided, but Minister Smotrich was not dismissed from the government. Earlier, MKs in the Likud and haredi parties suggested that Netanyahu settle for Smotrich's dismissal from the Cabinet and not the government. According to another report, Netanyahu spoke with Shas Chairman Arie Deri about his intention to fire Smotrich. "Smotrich is wrong and should be reprimanded, but it would be a mistake to fire him. He's a good coalition partner," said Deri. Netanyahu initially closed, then reopened the Temple Mount to Jewish visitors Sunday after Arab rioters clashed with police at the holy site. Smotrich blasted Netanyahu over the initial closure, later saying the pressure on Netanyahu was key to the site’s reopening. Later on Sunday, Smotrich lambasted Netanyahu and his government for failing to intervene after the Nazareth District Court barred a haredi concert in Afula from having gender-separate seating. According to Dr. Ofer Koenig's research from the Israeli Democracy Institute, there was no authority for the Prime Minister to fire ministers in the past, and in extreme cases the entire government had to resign in order to fire one minister. In 1962, the law was amended and the Prime Minister was given the authority to dismiss ministers. Since then, 22 ministers have been fired. Prime Minister Sharon made the most widespread use of the dismissal authority, when he dismissed eight ministers.
