A two-and-a-half decade-long legal battle over a Jewish-owned building in eastern Jerusalem finally ended Wednesday morning, when Israeli police evicted Arab squatters from the property and transferred the building to its owners.

On Wednesday, Israeli police removed members of the Siyam family, and activists supporting the family, from a building they had illegally taken control of in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Officers removed the squatters, their furniture, appliances, and other property before transferring the building over to the Elad organization, which purchased the property years ago. At least one of the squatters was arrested for resisting the eviction, the Palestinian Authority's WAFA media outlet reported.

The property, located in the Silwan (Shiloah) neighborhood of the capital, was purchased from the State decades ago by the Elad organization – an NGO dedicated to reclaiming Jewish property in eastern Jerusalem.

While Elad was the legal owner of the property, the eviction of the Arab squatters took 25 years of legal battles.

Three weeks ago, the Jerusalem District Court rejected the Siyam family's final appeal against the eviction order.

In addition, the court ordered that 38,000 shekels ($10,600) raised on behalf of the Siyam family for their legal efforts be transferred to Elad, to cover years of back rent owed to the organization for the time the squatters occupied the building.

Today a predominantly Arab neighborhood, Silwan was home to a large Jewish community in the 19th and early 20 century. Most of the Jewish population was forced out, however, in the late 1930s by the Arab Revolt, with the remaining community barred from the area after Jordan occupied eastern Jerusalem in 1948 and seized Jewish-owned property.

Since the 1980s, a number of Jewish organizations have actively worked to restore the Jewish presence in Silwan and other areas of eastern Jerusalem seized by Jordan in 1948.

2. IRAQI MAN WHO MURDERED GERMAN JEWISH TEEN GETS LIFE SENTENCE
by David Rosenberg

A 22-year-old Iraqi national living in Germany has been sentenced to life in prison for the rape and murder of a German Jewish teenager.

Ali Bashar, an Iraqi citizen from the Kurdistan region who migrated to Germany in December 2015, was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Juergen Bonk Wednesday, but could be eligible for parole in just 15 years.

Bashar had moved to Germany with his parents and five siblings in 2015 and applied for asylum. While his asylum request had been rejected, Bashar remained in Germany while waiting for a response to his appeal request.

3. INVESTIGATION OF HORRIFIC RAPE CASE HITS DEAD END
by Arutz Sheva Staff

No new leads have been unearthed in the case of the seven-year-old girl was raped near her school in a haredi city near Modi'in earlier this year, Hahadashot 12 reported.

Two weeks ago, the indictment against a 46-year-old Arab maintenance man who worked at the girl's school was nullified, and police began searching for additional proofs that he had raped the girl, as well as leads on other possible suspects.

According to Hahadashot 12, despite Israel Police's best efforts, the investigation has now met a dead end. Over 100 investigators, cyber experts, detectives, and intelligence officers have been working with the police's Judea and Samaria District, and the district's commander, Moshe Barkat, has held 48 hours of special status discussions regarding the investigation.

The news site also noted that there was no suspicion of a Jew - whether in the victim's family or her town - being responsible for the rape. However, it added that there are no findings to support suspicion against a Palestinian Authority Arab employed in the victim's town.

It is estimated that the victim was sexually abused, but not necessarily raped. In addition, the fact that Barkat did not know about the investigation or the indictment will be investigated.

Ynet added that some of the girl's belongings had been sent to a lab, and not all the test results were back yet. She was also questioned a fifth time, regarding the area where the rape occurred, the site noted.

4. BREAKTHROUGH IN ZEHUT - NEW RIGHT UNITY TALKS?
by Yehonatan Gottleib

Two small right-wing parties eyeing a potential alliance for the September 17th election may be close to a breakthrough, Reshet Bet reported Wednesday morning.

Both the New Right party of ex-Education Minister Naftali Bennett and the libertarian-leaning Zehut party led by ex-Likud MK Moshe Feiglin failed to enter the 21st Knesset, despite polls showing both parties clearing the 3.25% electoral threshold.

Since the dissolution of the 21st Knesset and snap elections, the two parties have declared their plans to run again for the Israeli parliament – while looking for partners to form a technical bloc; a kind of temporary alliance allowing them to cross the Knesset's electoral threshold.

Zehut and the New Right have been in talks for a joint ticket, but hitherto have been unable to reach an agreement on who will lead the Knesset slate, with both Feiglin and Bennett pushing for the top slot.

Now, according to the Reshet Bet report, Feiglin has agreed to accept Bennett at the top of the joint ticket, waiving his earlier demand to lead the list. In addition, Zehut is willing to forgo the first choice of government ministry if the joint ticket enters the next coalition, and give the first ministry to Bennett.

In return, Feiglin has reportedly requested both the second and third spots on the list.

US government officials held secret meetings with Iranian officials in Iraq, i24News reported.

The meetings took place last week in a hotel in Erbil, the capital of Iraq's Kudsish region.

According to the report, the Iranian delegation was led by Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who ruled Iran following the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The delegation also included two officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iraj Masjedi, Iran's special envoy to Iraq.

The Iranian delegation has reportedly been at odds with the official policy of the Iranian government.

The meetings come amid reports of unrest and division within the Iranian government.

125 officials, including members of the IRGC, have been arrested and charged with spying. Others have either been removed from their posts or have disappeared entirely.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei is reportedly concerned that the IRGC could turn on his regime and support the people of Iran in a coup de'etat.

The IDF released video Tuesday evening of how soldiers discovered the Hamas terror tunnel which was revealed yesterday.

IDF forces have been operating over the past 24 hours to investigate the route of the tunnel that was exposed Monday during construction work on the underground barrier along the Gaza Strip border.

According to the IDF, the tunnel route was part of an older tunnel.

The Eshkol Regional Council responded to the exposure of the tunnel of terror and said that "the tunnel was located because of the groundbreaking technological defenses that are being used along the Gaza border to protect our communities.

"The tunnel is not a threat and is being handled by the IDF. We thank IDF soldiers and officers who are determined and courageous in defending our communities," the council said.

18 attack tunnels have been discovered crossing under the border from Gaza into Israel since Operation Protective Edge in 2014.

With participation of singers: Zehava Ben, David Daor, Leah Shabat, Yishai Levi, Arik Sinai, Dafna Armoni, Dudi Levy, and Nicole Peterson. Lyrics: Nili Peterson. Music: Udi Turgeman

Mother's Cry - a song for the return of Hadar Goldin (Translated from Hebrew):

My child is full of splendor (Hadar) and majesty,
I' not willing to wait more and more;
I sent you with a smile of love
And I was left broken hearted and disappointed.
My child is full of splendor and majesty,
I miss you very much;
Every evening I whisper softly a prayer for you.
And by day I shout that there's no forgiveness!

refrain:
I would have wanted to try to forgive,
But your smile doesn't give me peace;
The mother in me does not let to forget,
That I will never run out of strength -
Until you return

My child is full of splendor and majesty,
Everyone here oh how they can stumble;
Everything is so simple but not easy,
How do we keep repeating the same mistake over and over again?
My child forever you are Hadar,
So it will never, ever, no never be too late -
Every day I still have a dream that tomorrow,
To me they will say that to me will return Hadar...

refrain:
I would have wanted to try to forgive,
But your smile doesn't give me peace;
The mother in me does not let to forget,
That I will never run out of strength -
Until you return
