1. ISRAELI TEEN WOUNDED IN OLD CITY STABBING RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL
by Arutz Sheva Staff
An Israeli teenager wounded in last Friday's terrorist attack in the Old City of Jerusalem has been discharged from the hospital, after recovering from stab wounds suffering in the attack.
Officials from the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem announced Wedneday afternoon that 16-year-old Yisrael Meir Nachumberg, one of two victims in last week's terror attack, had recovered and has been released from the hospital.
During the attack, which was carried out by a 19-year-old Palestinian Authority resident, Nachumberg was moderately wounded when the terrorist jump him from a side street in the Old City as he was riding his bike from synagogue after morning prayers back to his yeshiva.
After he stopped for a moment, the terrorist attacked him, stabbing Nachumberg in the back, leaving him in moderate condition.
The terrorist also stabbed 50-year-old Gavriel Lavi during the attack.
Lavi was initially listed in critical condition, but has improved over the past few days, and is no longer relying on a respirator to breathe.
During the attack, Israeli police officers opened fire on the terrorist, killing him on the spot.

2. FLORIDA OFFICER WHO AVOIDED PARKLAND SHOOTER ARRESTED, INDICTED
by David Rosenberg
A former law enforcement official who remained outside of a Parkland, Florida high school during a deadly mass shooting there last year has been arrested and indicted on 11 criminal charges for failing to protect students.
On February 14th of last year, former student Nikolas Cruz entered the Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida carrying a semi-automatic AR-15-style rifle.
Cruz opened fire on students and faculty, murdering 17 and wounding 17 more.
During the shooting, the on-site security and law enforcement official, school resource officer Scot Peterson, failed to enter the building where the mass shooting occurred.
As security camera footage from the school confirmed, Peterson, a deputy of the Broward County Sheriff's Office, remained outside of building number 12 during the duration of the shooting, radioing in updates to the sheriff's office.
Eight days after the shooting, Peterson was suspended without pay by Sheriff Scott Israel.
Authorities launched an investigation into the police response to the massacre – including Peterson's refusal to enter the building where the shooting was taking place.
On Tuesday, the fourteen-month investigation, which questioned 184 witnesses, culminated in the arrest of the Peterson, who has been charged with 11 counts of child neglect, negligence, and perjury.
If found guilty on all charges, Peterson, now 56 years old, could potentially face up to 100 years in prison.
Investigators found Peterson "did absolutely nothing to mitigate" the shooting, Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Rick Swearingen said in a statement.
"There can be no excuse for his complete inaction and no question that his inaction cost lives.
A police union representative from the Broward Sheriff's Office union criticized the indictment, saying it could set a dangerous precedent for officers assigned to protect schools, WPTV reported.
"Does this now mean that every police officer from now on that works to detail where children are present are now subjected to child neglect charges if something happens?"

3. GAFNI: LIBERMAN WAS PRACTICALLY A PART OF UNITED TORAH JUDAISM
by Haim Lev
Finance Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni (UTJ) on Wednesday responded to the commotion regarding MK Bezalel Smotrich's (United Right) statement that his party "want to return the Torah to its foundation."
Speaking to attendees of an Eilat conference, Gafni said his party is not interested in turning Israel into a "state of Jewish law."
"I never said that, I've seen a lot of coalition agreements for UTJ and it was never even hinted that UTJ would want Israel to be a state of Jewish law," Gafni told participants.
"It's true that there are those who want to make religion and state into a public issue, at any price, but we have a very clear goal of keeping the status quo, and this is what needs to continue. We want a Jewish and democratic state, we're not bringing the Holy Temple or the messiah by saying it or via laws, and so all discussions regarding a state of Jewish law are incorrect. We never asked and we do not ask for a state of Jewish law, we do not ask for a change and certainly we don't want a change for the worse."
Regarding the haredi parties' demand to separate men and women, Gafni said, "A woman comes and says, 'I want to make a Simchat Beit Hashoeva celebration for my friends, I don't want there to be men,' and then Deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber comes along and said she can't do it. So I want to say, I was born in Tel Aviv, I lived in Ofakim, and no one will tell me or my wife how to live. Why does she think I'm going to tell [them]? Because I'm haredi? Such a thing never was and never will be."
Slamming Yisrael Beytenu Chairman Avigdor Liberman, Gafni continued, "When we talk about Liberman, we talk about the lack of trust, about the lies, about the hypocrisy. He lives with us, things were almost worked out, he was almost part of UTJ, and suddenly with no prior warning he changed. He's not harming the Torah world, he's harming the country, he's hypocritical and lies and doesn't say the truth. He makes Israel into a third-world country."
4. FLORIDA DROPS AIRBNB FROM BLACKLIST AFTER SETTLEMENTS BAN NIXED
by Marcy Oster, JTA
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he would remove Airbnb from the state's blacklist of companies that boycott Israel.
The state suspended the use of Airbnb for state-paid travel and had considered preventing its pension fund from investing in the firm when it goes public, reportedly by 2020, after it announced in November 2018 that it would remove listings of rooms and homes for rent in Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria. Airbnb said at the time that it consulted with experts to learn about the historical disputes in the region to decide whether it should be doing business in "the occupied territories."
DeSantis and his Cabinet in January voted to place the company on the list of scrutinized companies following a recommendation by the state Board of Administration.
The company announced in April that it would keep the listings in Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria and donate any profits from them to humanitarian groups. The decision appears to be part of settlements between Airbnb and two groups of American Jewish plaintiffs who had sued the company.
"As Governor, I have an obligation to oppose policies that unfairly target Israel. Once @Airbnb ended their discriminatory policy toward Israel, we decided to remove them from the @FloridaSBA Scrutinized Companies List," DeSantis tweeted on Tuesday.
In a statement in April, Airbnb said that it does not support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement targeting Israel.
"Airbnb has always opposed the BDS movement," the statement reads. "Airbnb has never boycotted Israel, Israeli businesses, or the more than 20,000 Israeli hosts who are active on the Airbnb platform. We have always sought to bring people together and will continue to work with our community to achieve this goal."
5. US TO PRESS RUSSIA ON IRANIAN PRESENCE IN SYRIA
by Ben Ariel
A senior White House official said in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday that the US plans to stress to Russia during its trilateral national security advisers summit in Jerusalem this month that Iranian forces and their proxies have to leave Syria, Axios reported.
The trilateral meeting between the national security advisers of Israel, the US and Russia in late June is an unprecedented event. The White House official said the main focus of the summit will be Syria and Iran's activities in Syria, Lebanon and the rest of the region.
Israel wants to use the summit to push the US and Russia closer together in order to get a deal on Syria that would push Iranian forces out of the country, noted Axios.
The White House official said on Tuesday that the US and Israel are waiting to hear what proposals Russia will bring to the meeting.
National security adviser John Bolton is going to stress during the summit that Iran is not playing any positive role in Syria or the region as a whole, according to the official. The official added that the Trump administration is very concerned with Iranian actions in Syria and supports Israeli airstrikes against Iranian military entrenchment in the country.
"We are sure the Iranians are not happy that this meeting is taking place and that the Israelis are publicly hosting the Americans and the Russians together in Jerusalem to talk about Iran. The fact the Russians are attending this meeting is important in itself," said the official.
While Iranian leaders deny that the Islamic Republic has a military presence in Syria, Iran is a key supporter of President Bashar Al-Assad's regime, having providing the regime with both financial aid and military advisers against a range of opposing forces since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011.
Near the start of the Syrian civil war, it was reported that then-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had personally sanctioned the dispatch of officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to Syria to fight alongside Assad's troops.
Ali Akbar Velayati, a top aide to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, made clear last summer that Iran would withdraw its "military advisers" from Syria and Iraq only if their governments wanted it to.
Russia also has a strong military presence in Syria and is a close ally of Assad as well. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has held several meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the presence of Iran in Syria.

Firefighting teams are currently trying to control a major fire that broke near the Moshavim of Even Sapir, Ora and Aminadav, on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
Police forces evacuated a number of houses of their occupants following the fire that raged in the vicinity of Even Sapir, Ora and Aminadav. The entrance to the site was blocked to allow firefighters to enter.
16 firefighting teams are working at the scene. 6 firefighting helicopters were also dispatched to help the firefighters on the ground.
Police said, "Residents who evacuated independently are asked to leave the doors of their homes without locking them in order to facilitate police search operations. We urge citizens to refrain from going to areas where there are fires and to obey police orders."
At the same time, firefighters managed to subdue another fire that raged in the area of the Lifta at the entrance to Jerusalem.

7. UNUSUAL STATEMENT ATTRIBUTED TO ISRAEL AIR FORCE COMMANDER
by Mordechai Sones
The Israel Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin uttered an interesting statement during the ceremony exchanging the commander of the Ramat David base last week.
According to a Kann 11 report, the Air Force Commander said "In the last two years ... these were wing 1 squadrons who sought contact, initiated and stretched the IAF's operational reach ... as in the north, so in the Gaza Strip and even in the Red Sea."
Norkin apparently was referring to helicopters of the naval reconnaissance squadron operating with naval vessels in the Gulf, but to admit activity in the Red Sea - especially on the background of the tensions in the Gulf - is exceptional.
Kann also revealed that the information identifying Iran as responsible for sabotaging vessels off the United Arab Emirates near the Straits of Hormuz also originates from information collected by the Israeli Mossad.
The United States is planning to reveal in coming days information that will indicate that Iran is responsible for the actions against the tankers, apparently before the UN Security Council.
