1. TURKEY: ISRAEL A JEWISH STATE? 'THAT'S BLATANT RACISM'
by David Rosenberg
Turkey condemned Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Tuesday, calling his affirmation of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people "blatant racism".
"Netanyahu says that Israel is 'a nation state not of all its citizens but only of the Jewish people', tweeted Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesperson for Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"I strongly condemn this blatant racism and discrimination. 1.6 million Arabs/Muslims live in Israel. Will the Western governments react or keep silent under pressure again?"
Kalin's tweet Tuesday referred to a controversy in Israel over the weekend stirred by warnings from the ruling Likud party that a left-wing government could be formed after next month's elections with the support of radical, anti-Zionist Arab factions.
Culture Minister Miri Regev (Likud) repeated the warning in an interview on Saturday, prompting actress and model Rotem Sela to excoriate Regev and the Likud, while declaring Israel to be a "state of all its citizens".
"I see Miri Regev sitting and explaining to Rina Matzliah that the public needs to be careful because Gantz will form a coalition with the Arabs if he is elected," she wrote.
"Rina is silent. I ask myself, why doesn't Rina ask in bewilderment - And what's the problem with the Arabs??? Master of the Universe, there are also Arab citizens in this country. Israel is a state of its citizens, and all people were born equal and Arabs, Heaven forbid, are people too, and so are Druze, and so are gays, by the way, and so are lesbians and so are…*shock*...leftists."
On Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu responded to Sela, saying during his weekly cabinet meeting that Israel is not a "state of all its citizens", but the nation-state of the Jewish people, which, while protecting minority groups and providing them with full civil rights, was founded to serve as an expression of Jewish sovereignty.
I would like to clarify a point that, apparently, is not clear to slightly confused people in the Israeli public. Israel is a Jewish, democratic state. This means is that it is the national state of the Jewish people alone. Of course it respects the individual rights of all its citizens – Jews and non-Jews alike, but it is the national state, not of all its citizens, but only of the Jewish people," Netanyahu said.
"Other peoples, other nationalities and other minorities – have national representation in other states. The national representation of the Jewish people is in the State of Israel. Israel is the national state of the Jewish people and of it alone."
Later, actress Gal Gadot, a friend of Rotem Sela, entered the fray.
"Love thy neighbor as thyself," wrote Gadot.
"This isn't a matter of left-wing or right-wing, Jewish versus Arab, secular or religious. It is about dialogue for peace, equality and our tolerance for each other."
According to its declaration of independence, Israel was established explicitly as "a Jewish state", providing special immigration rights to Jewish immigrants and for the purpose of establishing "the sovereign Jewish people… in its own land".
Last year, the Knesset passed the Nationality Law, codifying the principles laid out in the declaration of independence into Israel's Basic Law.
"The Land of Israel is the historical birthplace of the Jewish nation, and in it the State of Israel was founded," the Nationality Law reads. "The State of Israel is the nation state of the Jewish nation, in which it realizes its natural, cultural, religious, and historical right to self-determination. The realization of the right to national self-determination in Israel is unique to the Jewish nation."
2. FIREBOMB HURLED AT POLICE POST ON TEMPLE MOUNT

Arabs on Tuesday morning hurled a firebomb at a police position on the Temple Mount, Tuesday afternoon.
The post went up in flames, and one officer suffered from smoke inhalation.
Three suspects were taken for interrogation.
"A short while ago, a firebomb was hurled towards a police position on the Temple Mount," an initial police statement read. "A police officer identified one of the suspects and arrested him."
Jerusalem Region Police Commander Commissioner Doron Yedid, who arrived at the scene to assess the situation, ordered the area evacuated and closed for investigations.
The "Return to the Temple Mount" movement responded, "We demand Israel Police immediately remove everything hostile and give Jews full rights on the Temple Mount. How much more blood must be spilled in the name of enlightenment, this insane status quo, and the Jewish leaders' fear of applying Jewish sovereignty to the Temple Mount?"

An Arab terrorist was shot and killed Tuesday during a failed stabbing attempt in the city of Hevron, south of Jerusalem.
The incident occurred Tuesday just after noon at an IDF position just outside of Hevron when a Palestinian Arab terrorist armed with a knife attempted to stab several Israeli soldiers.
The soldiers quickly spotted the terrorist as he approached them with the knife, and opened fire, killing him.
There were no injuries reported among the Israeli security personnel at the scene.
4. REPORT: HAMAS READYING FOR ISRAELI ATTACK
by Arutz Sheva Staff
The Arab Al-Hadaf news site on Tuesday reported that a senior Hamas source exposed the terror organization's intensified activities, Israel Hayom reported.
These activities, the source said, are intended to foil an "extensive Israeli operation" in Gaza, expected to take place before the April 9 elections.
The site quoted a Hamas official as saying that despite Egypt's efforts to broker peace, Hamas is preparing for an escalation with Israel, and Israel has intensified its activities in Gaza.
Hamas leaders have also changed the guidelines for the military wing in an attempt to prevent agents from operating within Gaza. The new guidelines demand terror activists avoid receiving any type of gifts from those who they do not know, avoid walking or driving alone at night, and completely avoid smartphones which have not been inspected.
"Israel is liable to use something happening in the field, such as the firing of a rocket, in order to begin an unprecedented aerial attack on opposition sites and leaders around Gaza," the source said.
The report also said that several people were arrested on suspicion of being Israeli agents, and that the terror organizations have been especially wary of Israeli agents and that a network of locals had aided the IDF in infiltrating Gaza.
5. EILAT CUTS ITSELF OFF FROM ISRAEL FOR FOUR-HOUR CITYWIDE PROTEST
by David Rosenberg
The southern Israeli city of Eilat launched a citywide strike at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, closing down most shopping centers, public transportation, schools, municipal operations, and even some hospital services in protest of the planned closure of an airport in Tel Aviv.
Along with the strike, which will cover most unionized workers, the city also shut barred entry and exit – not only to the neighboring countries of Egypt and Jordan, but also to the rest of Israel, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Even departure or entry by road has been closed, with routes 90 and 12 shutdown from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The four-hour closure, launched as a 'state of emergency' by the mayor of Eilat, included a physical blockade on roads leading into and out of Eilat, with municipal vehicles used to block traffic.
The closure and citywide strikes culminated in a demonstration, beginning at 11:30 a.m, at the entrance to the Eilat airport, which is slated to be closed.
Eilat's mayor, Meir Yitzhak Halevi, called for the strike last month, in protest of the planned closure of the Sde Dov airport in Tel Aviv.
Sde Dov, a smaller alternate airport about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) northwest of the larger Ben Gurion International Airport, is used for many local Israeli flights, linking Tel Aviv to Eilat.
The Knesset voted in 2015 to close Sde Dov, freeing up valuable real estate in the densely-populated center of the country. In 2017, however, the airport's closure was pushed off for two years, until July 2019.
At the same time, Eilat's Uvda airport is expected to cease operations next Monday, with air traffic shifted north, outside of the city, to the new Ramon airport.
Locals worry that with the closure of both the Sde Dov and Uvda airports, Eilat will become isolated from the rest of the country, given the longer travel times to and from Eilat from Ramon airport, and to and from Tel Aviv via Ben Gurion airport.
6. 2 ISRAELIS KILLED IN ETHIOPIAN PLANE CRASH
by Arutz Sheva Staff
Ethiopian Airlines officially confirmed on Sunday that among the 149 passengers of the company's flight who died in the plane crash this morning were two Israeli citizens.
There were 149 passengers from 33 different countries and 8 crew members on the Boeing 737 flight, all of whom died in the crash.
A preliminary examination of the events revealed that before the crash the pilot reported to the control tower and asked permission to come back and land in the airport, but the plane crashed before he could do so.
CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde Gebremariam said at a press conference that among those killed, 32 were Kenyans, 18 Canadians, nine Ethiopians, eight Italians, eight Chinese citizens, eight Americans, seven British citizens, seven French citizens, six Egyptians, five Dutch citizens, four Indians, four people from Slovakia, three Austrians, three Swedes, three Russians, two Moroccans, two Spaniards, two Poles and two Israelis.
Boeing said in response to the crash: "Boeing is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the passengers and crew on Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, a 737 MAX 8 airplane. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew on board and stand ready to support the Ethiopian Airlines team. A Boeing technical team is prepared to provide technical assistance at the request and under the direction of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board."
7. 'THERE WON'T BE ANOTHER MOSQUE ON TEMPLE MOUNT'
by Mordechai Sones
Internal Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) announced this evening on Ben Caspit and Aryeh Eldad's 103FM talk show that "there won't be another mosque on the Temple Mount."
He said the clashes began after an order that closed the Gate of Mercy on the Temple Mount over the past 16 years had expired. He said political discussions were being held and that the court order closing the compound would be renewed.
Asked whether the mosque would be evacuated before or after Khan al-Ahmar, Erdan replied: "There's no connection because there's no mosque at the moment, the Muslims on the Mount smuggle in carpets and pray there haphazardly just like they can pray in the middle of the street. No one can prevent a person from praying wherever he chooses. Unfortunately, there's prevention of Jews within the framework of the status quo on the Temple Mount. This is also something that may be planned in the future, but at the moment there won't be another permanent mosque; that's not only my directive but also that of the Prime Minister."
Erdan also referred to the President's remarks about discourse towards the Arabs: "The President was wrong; there's no connection between the individual rights of Israeli Arabs and national rights, and it isn't clear why the President doesn't understand this."

8. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE NEW BOEING 737 JETS?
by Mordechai Sones

The Ethiopian Airlines crash is the second major, fatal accident involving the new Boeing 737 in less than five months, after a brand new Indonesian Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 crashed into the Java sea 12 minutes after takeoff in October.
In that disaster, all 189 passengers and crew were killed.
In a statement to CNN, Boeing says no new safety guidance planned for now for the 737 MAX 8: "At this point, based on the information available, we do not have any basis to issue new guidance to operators."
Airlines in multiple countries have suspended the use of Boeing's 737 MAX 8 aircraft amid concerns over its safety.
Aviation analyst Alex Macheras said, "The disparity between Boeing's current stance on #737MAX and (multiple) airlines' decision to ground the jet is fueling passenger concern worldwide.
"As China & others ground all 737 MAX's, it leaves a Norwegian Air passenger questioning why the jet is safe 'here' and not there?"
