Family, friends, and comrades of Corporal Yosef Cohen, one of two IDF soldiers murdered in a Hamas terror attack near Givat Assaf north of Jerusalem Thursday, gathered in Jerusalem to mourn Cohen's murder.

The funeral procession began at the Shamgar funeral home in the capital, continued on to the Breslov section of the Mount of Olives cemetery.

"We didn't know – we couldn't believe – we didn't think," said Cohen's stepfather, Rabbi Eliyahu Meirav, regarding the disbelief among relatives at the initial news Cohen's death.

"You were pure gold, just completely pure gold. You were nineteen-and-a-half, not even 20 yet. Yosef, sweet boy, good boy – I never believed this moment would come. But we all believe that God gives, and God takes away."

"All the years I raised you, wonderful boy, holy, pure. You were full of love and generosity, all soul."

Cohen, whose father died when he was a child, was raised by his mother and stepfather, Rabbi Eliyahu Meirav, an air force pilot who later became religious. Cohen, 19, was serving in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion (also known as Nahal Haredi).

At 11:00 a.m., mourners gathered at the military cemetery in Ashkelon to pay their final respects to Sergeant Yuval Mor-Yosef, the second IDF officer killed in Thursday's attack.

On Thursday, IDF Sergeant Yuval Mor-Yosef and Corporal Yosef Cohen were murdered by Arab terrorists in a shooting attack next to Givat Assaf, north of Jerusalem. Two other Israelis, including a soldier and a civilian, were seriously wounded in the attack.

The attack was the second shooting attack this week by Hamas terrorists along Route 60 in the Ramallah area.

On Sunday, Hamas terrorists opened fire on a group of Israeli civilians outside of Ofra, just north of Givat Assaf, wounding seven.

2. IDF: SOLDIER WAS STABBED DURING BEIT EL INFILTRATION
by David Rosenberg

An IDF soldier injured after an Arab terrorist infiltrated into an army post next to the Israeli town of Beit El north of Jerusalem was stabbed during the attack, an IDF spokesperson revealed Friday afternoon.

According to the initial report Friday morning, the IDF soldier was seriously injured after an Arab terrorist infiltrated into the IDF post adjacent to the town of Beit El. The terrorist snuck up on and attacked the soldier, and in the ensuing fight, the terrorist hurled a rock at the soldier from close range, injuring him.

But IDF officials now say the soldier was not only struck by a rock, but also stabbed during the attack.

The army also reported that during the struggle, the terrorist was also injured, forcing him to flee.

After being treated on the scene, the soldier was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem in serious-to-moderate condition.

Upon his arrival at the hospital, the soldier's condition was listed as serious.

Israeli security forces are searching the surrounding area for the terrorist.

Friday's attack is the latest terror incident in the Binyamin district of Samaria.

On Sunday, Hamas terrorists opened fire on a group of Israeli civilians at a bus stop next to the town of Ofra, just north of Beit El. Seven people were wounded, including a 21-year-old pregnant woman, who was forced to deliver her child in an emergency caesarian section as a result of the attack. The child later died as a result of the attack.

On Thursday, terrorists shot and killed two Israeli soldiers near Givat Assaf junction outside of Beit El. Two other Israelis were wounded in the attack.

Shortly afterwards, a terrorist driver rammed an IDF soldier in El Bireh, outside of Ramallah, injuring him. The terrorist was then shot and killed.

Overnight, IDF forces captured 37 Hamas terrorists in the Ramallah area.

IDF Sergeant Yuval Mor-Yosef, who had served in the IDF's Netzah Yehuda (Nahal Haredi) Battalion, was laid to rest Friday morning at the army cemetery in the coastal city of Ashkelon.

Mor-Yosef, along with Corporal Yosef Cohen, was murdered by Hamas terrorists during a shooting attack near Givat Assaf, north of Jerusalem, Thursday.

Two other Israelis, including a civilian and an IDF soldier, were seriously wounded in the attack.

"Your friends have eulogized you, remembering you as a very special person, humble, quiet, and with a big heart," said Kfir Brigade commander Colonel Tzion Ratzon at the funeral.

"You were a pillar of strength for your family, every leave of absence you had you used to help take care of your sisters."

"As a youth, you were an outstanding soccer player, but you gave up on your dreams in order to make a meaningful contribution as a combat soldier. You died in the defense of your homeland, and I guarantee you that our spirits will never fail. We will not rest or be silent until we catch the terrorist."

Earlier on Friday, Corporal Yosef Cohen was laid to rest in Jerusalem's Mount of Olives cemetery.

5. AUSTRALIA COULD RECOGNIZE JERUSALEM AS SOON AS SATURDAY
by Elad Benari

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison could announce as soon as Saturday that his government will follow US President Donald Trump's lead and recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, AFP reported on Thursday night.

According to the report, ahead of the expected announcement, Australia warned citizens to take care while travelling in neighboring Muslim-majority Indonesia.

Scores of Australians preparing to jet off to Bali and other tropical island destinations for upcoming summer holidays should "exercise a high degree of caution", the Department of Foreign Affairs warned.

Officials in Canberra told AFP that, while they expected the announcement to come on Saturday, events could yet alter those plans.

There were conflicting reports this week about the possibility of Australia recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

On Tuesday, The Australian reported that the Australian government would formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of the State of Israel, but is not planning on relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv in the near future.

Morrison later rejected that report, saying it was too early to discuss such matters and that "when I'm in a position to make that announcement, I will."

Shortly after he entered office, it was reported that Morrison was weighing the possibility of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, as well as the relocation of the Australian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

He later stressed that he had not yet decided to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and would hold consultations on the matter, while stressing Australia's commitment to a two-state solution.

6. FATHER OF MURDERED SOLDIER REVEALS SON'S FINAL WORDS
by Arutz Sheva Staff

Rabbi Eliyahu Merav, the father of Yossi Cohen, one of the soldiers who fell in the shooting attack at the Givat Asaf junction earlier today, spoke to Channel 10 News about his son's final words.

"Yossi was a beautiful and pure soul. He was on a mission. We sent him with great love," the bereaved father told the news station. "When we sat at [our last] Shabbat meal and everyone thanked us for something, Yossi said, 'I thank God that I have the right to protect the people of Israel with my body.'" Yossi was a pure soul, a devoted child who only wanted to help since he was a little boy, and G-d took him."

He said that he sent his son to serve in the Netzach Yehuda Battalion "with love, out of a sense of mission."

"I served in the IDF and became religious after the Yom Kippur War. I am an Israeli, I am the product of a crisis in secular Israeli society," Rabbi Meirav said." I understand that everyone has to live by his faith and values, but mutual respect must be preserved, this hatred must end. It is impossible to build a home and a state like this. Beyond all the arguments, why do we only meet after a bereavement and say 'we are brothers?' Let's meet at celebrations."

"Yossi was an Israeli guy, a haredi man with a heart of gold who was dedicated to the glory of the people of Israel. Yossi wanted to be a dentist after the army and now he is guarding us from above," the rabbi added with tears in his eyes.

7. CHILD BORN IN WAKE OF OFRA TERROR ATTACK DIES
by Gary Willig

The baby who was delivered prematurely after his mother was critically wounded in a shooting attack at the Ofra Junction on Sunday has died, Shaare Tzedek Medical Center announced on Wednesday.

"We regretfully announce the death of Shira and Amichai's child four days after the attack, despite the efforts of the medical doctors to save him," the hospital said in a statement.

Shira Ish-Ran was shot in the lower abdomen. Doctors were forced to perform C-Section to deliver her child at 30 weeks. Both mother and child fought for their lives over the week. The child's father, Amichai, was shot three times in the attack but was not in mortal danger from his wounds.

Shira's condition had improved and she had been asking about her baby. A few hours ago, she was able to see her child for the first time.

Israeli ministers reacted with sorrow to the news of the child's passing.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett stated: "A Jewish baby who has not yet been named has been murdered. Palestinian terrorists shot an unborn child; and he was born out of the fire. His short life was spent in the struggle for his life. Our hearts with Amichai and Shira. The heart cries out."

"This is the low-life murder carried out by terrorists who have stopped being afraid of us. The lost deterrence must be restored. Otherwise a wave of murders is on the way. Not by declarations, by deeds," he added.

Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel wrote on her Twitter account: "The heart aches at the terrible news of the passing of the baby whose mother was seriously injured in the attack at the Ofra Junction. I send my condolences to the parents Amichai and Shira Ish-Ran and share their sorrow. My heart is with the family."

"We will catch the despicable murderers and punish with them the full extent of the law."

Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon wrote: "Only bloodthirsty terrorists are capable of murdering a child in his mother's womb. We embrace and comfort Shira and Amichai and wish them full recovery.
We trust the IDF and Shin Bet security service to quickly apprehend the murderers. They will not defeat us!"

Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel wrote: "Baruch Dayan Haemet (a blessing traditionally stated after hearing news of a death). The baby whose mother was seriously injured in the attack at the Ofra junction passed away. I visited them at the beginning of the week and prayed for his safety."

"The attack was carried out by terrible torturers. The murderers must be apprehended, their homes demolished, and Ofra should be organized as soon as possible. Consolation will come with the building of the land."

Science and Technology Minister Ophir Akunis stated: ""How cruel, base, and inhumane can a two-legged animal be to shoot a pregnant woman?"

"These are our Palestinian "neighbors," who send out such vermin like the terrorist who sang songs at the entrance to Ofra. My condolences to Shira and Amichai Lev Ran for the terrible loss of their four-day-old baby. And when we know who this abominable culprit is, the entire family that raised such a murderer must be expelled from their home, without the Supreme Court and without B'Tselem."

The Elon Moreh municipality, where Shira and Amichai lived, expressed its shock and sadness at the loss of one of its newest residents.

"The Elon Moreh municipality embraces the residents of the settlement of Shira and Amichai Ish-Ran during their difficult time. We are shocked and hurt and call upon the prime minister and the defense minister to strengthen deterrence against terrorism and at the same time to cut off our enemy's hopes by strengthening our hold on Elon Moreh and settling in Judea and Samaria."
