For the fifth year in a row, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will host the main celebrations on the morning of Israel's 71st Independence Day in a singing event called "All Israel From Jerusalem". The event, a tribute to the spirit of Israel and with Israel's leading artists, will be held on Thursday 9 May in the gardens of Beit HaNasi in Jerusalem.
The celebrations will continue with the traditional ceremony for outstanding soldiers, attended by Israel's leading political and security figures, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Binyamin Netanyahu, IDF Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Aviv Kochavi and current and former members of the IDF General Staff.
Ahead of the event, President Rivlin went out to the gardens of Beit HaNasi Tuesday morning, where he met the 120 outstanding soldiers who were rehearsing for the ceremony.
The president welcomed the excited soldiers, saying "Greetings to the best of the best. It's wonderful to see you. I welcome you here, as the president does every year. This is truly uplifting day. You are the chosen 120 from the very best who come here so that the whole State of Israel can salute you, and through you salute the entire IDF. I see berets here of all colors, and together they make up our army." The president also thanked Lt-Col Oded Nahari, who will command the event for the 18th year, and asked to makes sure that the soldiers also have an opportunity to enjoy the day."
During the event a video clip which was filmed especially for the celebrations will be screened. Starring President Rivlin and the singer Boaz Sharabi, more than 20 choirs and singing groups, kindergartens, artistic gymnastic groups and dancers from the dance department of Beit Halohem and others gathered at Beit HaNasi and were the human background, some 500 people, for the song "Halevai" ("If Only"), written by Boaz Sharabi, words by Ehud Manor.
2. MURDERER OF ORI ANSBACHER FOUND FIT TO STAND TRIAL

Arafat Irfaiya, the accused in the murder of Ori Ansbacher, is found fit to stand trial and be held responsible for his actions. The conclusion emerges from a psychiatric evaluation conducted by the district psychiatrist, according to Kan.
After receiving the psychiatric opinion, his attorney considered requesting an additional evaluation on his behalf.
The report said that the Nahshon unit of the Israel Prison Service did not bring Irfaiya to the Jerusalem District Court this morning, even though a hearing was held on his case. The next hearing in the Ansbacher murder case will take place in another month and a half.
Irfaiya, a 29-year-old Hevron resident, confessed to the murder of the young woman Ori Ansbacher, and said that he committed the murder because he wanted to harm Jews. In his interrogation, he stated that he had not known Ansbacher beforehand, but had encountered her by chance and had acted alone. Two months ago he was indicted for murder and rape.
Ansbacher, 19, had just left the Yaelim Center for Children and Youth at Risk, where she served as a National Service girl, to the nearby forest. Irfaiya, who was in Israel without a permit, arrived with a knife. The indictment states that "The defendant noticed Ori and decided to kill her because she was Jewish. He attacked her with harsh violence and cruelty." It was also noted that Ansbacher fought the murderer, but he overcame her resistance and stabbed her many times in all parts of her body until she died.
3. ARABS SHOOT FIREWORKS AT JEWISH SCHOOL CHILDREN IN JERUSALEM

Arab teenagers shot fireworks at Jewish children in an eastern Jerusalem neighborhood Tuesday morning, residents say.
Residents of the neighborhood of Maaleh HaZeitim, which along with Maalot David is home to over one hundred Jewish families just to the southeast of the Old City of Jerusalem, say Arab teens targeted elementary school-age children Tuesday morning, shooting fireworks at them from a distance of just several dozen yards.
The children targeted by the Arab teens fled the scene, and managed to avoid injury.
When local security guards approached the Arab teens, the attackers shot several fireworks at the guards before fleeing.
Hodaya Shomron, a resident of Maaleh HaZeitim and a mother of two of the children who were targeted by the Arab teens, described the incident in an interview with Arutz Sheva.
"We went out with the kids to the bus, like every morning. The bus waits for us just outside the neighborhood on the other side of the road. While children were boarding the bus, they shot fireworks at us from a distance of only several dozen yards."
"A group of Arab teens, between the ages of 14 to 15, were standing there, faces uncovered, and they shot straight at the kids and at the bus. They didn't shoot in the air or in some other direction, they fired straight at us, it was just like shooting. There was screaming and panic, and we immediately took the kids back in. The guards closed the gates [of the neighborhood], and together with my husband they approached the Arabs, who shot another firework at them, then fled."
"Only after ten minutes, when the police arrived, were the gates opened up again and the children able to go back to the bus and to school."
Shomron added that while stone-throwing and even firebomb attacks on buildings in the neighborhood were common, this direct attack on school children was a serious escalation.
"Something big like this hasn't happened in years. Occasionally they throw firebombs or rocks, but actually shooting at people hasn't happened here in years. Eight years ago when we moved here, the situation was much worse. We were attacked all the time, and the police were not doing their job. At one point people were unable to enter or leave the neighborhood just before a holiday – like being under siege. That's not the case today. The police take care of things and are present, but I guess it's not enough."
Shomron said residents demanded "full security around the clock for children" and the rest of the neighborhood's residents.
4. ARAB STUDENTS VANDALIZE MEMORIAL WALL FOR FALLEN IDF SOLDIERS

Arab students at a Jerusalem college vandalized a memorial for fallen IDF soldiers ahead of Israeli Memorial Day, which begins Tuesday night.
Candles lit in memory of fallen IDF soldiers at a memorial corner in David Yellin College of Education in Jerusalem's Beit Hakerem neighborhood were extinguished by Arab students, who also scrawled 'Ramadan Kareem' (Happy Ramadan) over the memorial.
The student union condemned the incident, saying in a statement "The Student Union came up with the idea for a memorial wall with the goal of providing a place to remember those who fell in the various wars, and to allow students to write the names of their loved ones and light candles in their memory."
"Unfortunately, a person or persons decided to mock the importance of the wall and to deface it in a premeditated fashion. We obviously strongly condemn this act, and the issue has been turned over for serious action to the administration and dean of students."
5. 'ONLY A BIG GROUND OPERATION WILL RESTORE LONG-TERM QUIET'

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi criticized the ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas, asserting that only an operation like "Protective Edge" will achieve long-term quiet.
In an interview Tuesday morning with "Ha'olam Ha'boker" on Channel 13, Davidi said that "We don't need to respond. We need to initiate."
"The reality is complex. We see the real heroes, the parents and the children, the older people who fight against the terrorism that comes from Gaza, and we have to strengthen them and tell them 'good job,' and we continue to develop the city and the region, but we have to remember that Protective Edge's achievements were exhausted."
In Davidi's opinion, repeated agreements that fit the conception of the 'rounds' and achieve short-term quiet are not the goal. "Our goal is to achieve quiet for a long time, and only an operation like Protective Edge will achieve it."

Davidi said he is talking to the prime minister and the various relevant authorities, giving voice to the position of the residents of his city.
"There was a long period led by Chief of Staff Eizenkot, in which the perception was that the achievements of Protective Edge should be exhausted, and therefore there were no eliminations or damage to buildings. The State of Israel is awakening from this great mistake, and the realization that this reality is incorrect is beginning to seep into the leadership. After all, this entire round was created in the wake of terrorist fire at the IDF and not because we said that we would hit the terrorists.
"Let us hit them, because they bring evil to the world and violate the peace of our residents. The situation that has been created came as a response, and we don't need to respond - but to initiate."
6. KILLED IN ASHDOD: RABBI PINCHAS MENAHEM PASHWAZMAN

Rabbi Pinchas Menachem Pashwazman was killed by a rocket in the city of Ashdod, the fourth person killed in the current round of fighting.
When the siren went off, the deceased ran to a stairwell to take cover but was hit by shrapnel from the rocket. Rescuers who arrived at the scene attempted to revive him and evacuated him to the hospital, but he died of his wounds on arrival.
The deceased, a young yeshiva student in his early twenties, was a Gur Hasid. He was born in Beit Shemesh to a father who serves as a teacher in the local Gur community. He moved to Ashdod after he got married. His parents are originally from Monsey, New York, and the victim was an American citizen, according to a report by Yeshiva World News.
According to the family, this is the third time that the family has lost family members in disasters. His mother's two brothers perished in disasters, one of them in a terror attack on a bus on Mount Meron, and the other in the Gesher Bnot Yaakov disaster.
He is survived by his wife and four-month old baby.
7. IDF ELIMINATES TERRORIST BEHIND IRANIAN FUNDING OF HAMAS

Israeli forces killed a senior Hamas terrorist Sunday who had been responsible for smuggling Iranian cash into the Gaza Strip, an IDF spokesperson said in a statement.
Hamed Ahmed Abed Khudari, 34, was eliminated in an Israeli airstrike Sunday afternoon, as part of a large-scale Israeli retaliation against a massive wave of rocket attacks from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
Gaza health officials confirmed Sunday afternoon that Khudari had been killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Hamas identified Khudari as one of its commanding officers. He is the fifth casualty reported in Gaza since Israel launched its retaliatory attacks on the Hamas-ruled Strip following a massive wave of rocket attacks that have left three Israelis dead and half a dozen injured.
Two Israelis, ages 40 and 22, were killed Sunday afternoon after a rocket fired from Gaza struck a factory in the coastal city of Ashkelon. On Saturday, 58-year-old Moshe Agadi was killed by a rocket strike on Ashkelon.
Khudari, 34, was the owner of a money-changing company which had been declared a terrorist group in 2018, and had smuggled large amounts of cash from Iran to Islamic Jihad and Hamas, providing the cash-strapped terrorist groups with much-needed foreign currency.
Israeli security forces say Khudari's elimination was a joint effort of the IDF and Shin Bet internal security agency.
"A short while ago, Hamed Ahmed Abed Khudari," an IDF spokesperson said, "was killed in a joint IDF and ISA operation. Khudari was responsible for substantial cash transfers from Iran to terror organizations operating within the Gaza Strip.
"Khudari was the owner of the monetary exchange company, Hamed Co. for Exchange / Al Wefaq Co. for Exchange, which Israel designated a terrorist organization in June 2018.
"Khudari's financial activity, which served as Iran's spearhead in the Gaza Strip, contributed significantly to the promotion of terror activities and the military buildup of terror organizations in the Gaza Strip.
"The IDF and ISA will continue operating to thwart and disrupt Iran's attempts to promote terror activity from within the Gaza Strip by funding terror organizations such as Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the other terror organizations in the Gaza Strip."

8. 'NETANYAHU DOESN'T WANT TO TOPPLE HAMAS'

National Union Chairman MK Betzalel Smotrich says he discerns within the Prime Minister and the defense establishment a lack of willingness to deal with the root of the Hamas problem in Gaza.
"The source of Israel's insufficiently determined responses in recent rounds to Hamas stems from a strategic trap: Netanyahu doesn't want to topple the Hamas government because there really is no alternative to Hamas rule; he doesn't want to crown Abbas leader of Gaza, and in this I agree with him 100 percent," Smotrich said in an interview with Arutz Sheva.
"Today, Netanyahu and Israeli society have no willingness to understand that the real solution requires courage to take responsibility for what's happening in the Gaza Strip, to bring down Hamas, to return there and then we'll take care of the root cause of what's happening in the Gaza Strip - remove the three quarters of the population who were brought there and are being maintained by the Arab states as a kind of cluster bomb against the State of Israel.
"As long as we aren't willing to go to this real root course," Smotrich warns, "we're just getting tangled up in tactical responses."
He says, "Even on the tactical level, the response must be much more determined for a simple reason: Hamas must lose the desire to attack the State of Israel, and which should end with 700 Hamas terrorists killed, at least one for every missile fired at the State of Israel. It should take Hamas a very long time to rebuild so that they'll think a hundred times before launching the next incendiary balloon towards the State of Israel."
The price of hesitation is paid, he says, by Israeli citizens. "It's inconceivable that an entire generation of children and youth will grow with these anxieties, and it's inconceivable that a million-and-a-half citizens enter the shelters for days. Our national pride and honor cannot be eroded as well as deterrence. Hezbollah is watching from the north, seeing what's happening in the south, and getting an appetite."
The main problem facing the defense establishment today, Smotrich says, is that of deterrence. "My role in the next government will be to say again and again that there is no choice but to look directly at reality in Gaza and to change it completely. I believe the Israeli public will gradually understand this and then leadership will also have more strength, courage, and public legitimacy to do so. Until then, we should try to make the tactical responses sharper."

Jewish Home chief MK Rabbi Rafi Peretz warned Monday afternoon that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas which went into effect Monday morning would not restore Israel's long-term security, adding that the latest round of fighting between Israel and Gaza did not end with a decisive defeat of the Hamas terror organization.
"This battle needs to result in one thing: a clear sense of deterrence – but we didn't not achieve that," Peretz told Arutz Sheva, hours after a ceasefire went into effect Monday.
"We need to continue work to prevent attacks, continue to hit critical targets which we have the opportunity to strike at. We can't stop this [campaign]."
A resident of southern Israel near the Gaza Strip, Peretz said the ceasefire had left Israelis on the Gaza front with a high level of uncertainty – and anxiety – regarding their security situation.
"I live in the Gaza periphery area, and around there people are very anxious, worried that maybe there could be shooting again in a couple of hours. It's outrageous that we have live with these fears, while the murderous Hamas terrorist leaders walk around in security. They need to be on the agenda all the time, and I know that's the thing that could hurt them the most."
Peretz added that he believed Israel failed to achieve victory or restore its deterrence against Hamas in the latest round of fighting, and said the country "paid too high a price" during the latest escalation.
"In this battle we did not reach a definite conclusion in the sense of restoring deterrence, and as far as I'm concerned, [the battle] isn't over. I'm happy to see that the Prime Minister said the same thing. We need to finish this battle properly. They need to understand that they cannot cross this line, and that there is an iron wall between us."
"We paid too high a price. It is unacceptable that we lose four people dead and almost 100 injured and when we finish the battle, the leaders of Hamas are celebrating in Gaza."
A ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt went into effect at 4:30 Monday morning, following two days of rocket attacks by Gaza-based terrorists and Israeli retaliatory strikes inside Gaza.
Some 700 rockets were launched from Gaza towards Israel, killing four and injuring dozens.
Israeli airstrikes in the Strip killed 23 Gazans, including nine people identified as Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists.
Several coalition MKs ripped the ceasefire agreement, saying Israel failed to achieve its goals during the fighting, and gained nothing from the ceasefire.
"The ceasefire, in the circumstances it was reached under, has no gains for Israel," said Likud MK Gideon Saar.
"The time between each round of violent attacks against Israel and its citizens is shrinking, and terror organizations in Gaza are strengthening. The fighting hasn't been ended, just pushed off."
Union of Right-Wing Parties MK Bezalel Smotrich said Israel should have hit Hamas hard enough to deter future attacks.
"The battle with Gaza needed to end with seven hundred terrorists killed – one for every rocket fired at Israel, with heavy physical damage to Hamas, the kind that will take years for them to recover from so that it will be difficult for them to think of attacking again."
"We cannot force one-and-a-half million citizens in the south to head to the bomb shelters every few weeks."
Opposition lawmakers also criticized the ceasefire deal, with Blue and White party chairman MK Benny Gantz saying that "after nearly 700 rockets fired into Israeli territory, with four people killed and many injured – all of them as a result of the loss of deterrence – this [round] has ended with yet another surrender to Hamas and the terrorist organizations."
"All the government has done, yet again, is leave the next battle at our doorstep."
Blue and White MK Yair Lapid accused Netanyahu of leading Israel's "total surrender" to Hamas.
"Netanyahu used the residents of the south as a bullet-proof vest on his way to the complete surrender to Hamas. Netanyahu won't solve the problem in Gaza. He doesn't have the operational and political courage to do that. At the very least, he owes the people of Israel an explanation regarding the situation, but even that he doesn't have the courage to do."

2. 'THE IRON DOME HAS BECOME A SLEEPING PILL'

Lt. Col. Yoni Chetboun, a former MK (Jewish Home) and currently a member of the Netanya Council and a security advisor, published an article criticizing Israel's dependence on the Iron Dome already eight years ago. Arutz Sheva spoke with him about the Iron Dome in light of the current escalation in the south.
"The Iron Dome has become a sleeping pill for the public and military leadership," says Chetboun. "From the time the Iron Dome came into the picture, the residents of Israel and the leadership have gotten used to it intercepting missiles. We've moved to a defensive approach in response to missile attacks on a sovereign state."
In this context, Chetboun also mentions the billions invested in the construction of the fence, which has advanced technological features, along the Gaza border in response to terrorism. "They haven't overcome terrorism in any place in the world through fortification, concrete and fences," Chetboun states.
"Ironically, the Iron Dome was supposed to allow the defense establishment to conduct an offensive campaign inside the Gaza Strip in order to bring about the elimination of terror. Instead, we have drugged ourselves and become accustomed to the constants rounds of rockets. We're still paying the price for it today."
"We must return to the concept of operational control in the Gaza Strip. On the eve of Operation Defensive Shield, the discourse in the defense establishment was that it was impossible to enter the casbah in Nablus and Jenin. In 2000, dozens of soldiers and civilians were killed every week. In 2002, the brigade commanders initiated a move and presented the senior echelon with a proposal for a logical and necessary military operation. We launched Operation Defensive Shield and Israel is the only country that has proven that it's possible to strike the enemy's territory at home in an operational attack. Between 2002 and 2004 we were the only country that succeeded in defeating the terror of suicide bombers."
"The same feeling exists today regarding the Gaza Strip as well. The IDF knows how to enter the Gaza Strip and control it for a prolonged period of time. There would be a heavy price to pay but from a long-term perspective, a country needs to know how to bring in soldiers and protect its citizens. It can't be that we accustom ourselves to the firing of rockets."
And what about civilian strength? Maybe Israeli civilians can't withstand a prolonged operation and aren't interested in paying the heavy price involved?
"Operation Protective Edge, unlike the Second Lebanon War, proved that Israeli society, from the right and left, gave broad legitimacy to operate within the Gaza Strip. We were in the Gaza Strip for 50 days and the social discourse was 'Let the IDF win.' The fact that we didn't accomplish that is another story, but many were surprised by the ability of the Jewish people to sit in bomb shelters over time. I'm certain that when a military and political leadership emerges that will make it clear that we're embarking on a painful military operation to defeat terror, Israeli society will be able to adapt itself to it."
"Often the Arabs make us realize that there's no choice but to attack them aggressively, and that will eventually come," says Chetboun. "Beyond the logical component, this is a perception that will ultimately occur, because it's impossible to remain in this reality for long."
Chetboun clarifies the term "operational control in the Gaza Strip" for us. "Today there's no Jewish settlement in Jenin, Nablus and Ramallah, but the IDF enters freely and makes arrests with full freedom of action. The same freedom of action must be returned to the Gaza Strip. Ultimately, the professional and historical model taught us that they will fire missiles from any place where the IDF not present."
3. 'THE BATTLE ISN'T OVER'

Israeli forces struck a 'powerful' blow against the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations in Gaza over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Monday morning, as he spoke out on the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
"Over the past two days, we struck a powerful blow against Hamas and Islamic Jihad," said Netanyahu. "We hit more than 350 targets, we hit terrorist leaders and officials and destroyed 'terrorist towers'."
Netanyahu added that despite the ceasefire, the battle against Hamas was not over.
"The campaign isn't finished, and it will require patience and careful judgment. We're prepared for its continuation."
"The goal was and remains to secure quiet and bring security to the residents of the south. I send my condolences to the bereaved families and I wish the injured a speedy recovery."

National Union chairman MK Bezalel Smotrich (Union of Right-Wing Parties) excoriated the decision to accept a ceasefire agreement with Hamas Monday morning, saying Israel failed to restore its deterrence following two days of rocket attacks and Israeli retaliatory strikes.
Smotrich said that Israel needed to exact a heavy price from Hamas for the roughly 700 rockets fired into Israeli territory.
"The battle with Gaza needed to end with seven hundred terrorists killed – one for every rocket fired at Israel, with heavy physical damage to Hamas, the kind that will take years for them to recover from so that it will be difficult for them to think of attacking again."

Smotrich is not the only coalition MK to criticize the ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
Earlier on Monday, Likud MK Gideon Saar said Israel made "no gains" with the ceasefire deal.
"The ceasefire, in the circumstances it was reached under, has no gains for Israel," said Saar.
"The time between each round of violent attacks against Israel and its citizens is shrinking, and terror organizations in Gaza are strengthening. The fighting hasn't been ended, just pushed off."

5. REPORT: CEASEFIRE REACHED IN GAZA

Hamas' television and other Palestinian Arab sources reported overnight Sunday that a ceasefire had been reached with Israel, and that it went into effect at 4:30 a.m.
However, Israel has not confirmed this.
Earlier, the rocket fire on Israel continued, as "Red Color" sirens were sounded in Ashkelon and in the regional councils of Eshkol, Hof Ashkelon, Sdot Negev and Bnei Shimon.
So far there have been no reports of rockets exploding or being intercepted. The IDF said the details are under investigation.
Before midnight, there had been reports claiming that Egypt and Qatar had brokered a ceasefire scheduled to take effect at midnight on Sunday.
However, a Palestinian Arab source later said that "as of now there is no calm. Israel is delaying the implementation of the understandings reached in the past, but seeks to achieve calm in return for calm."
The source added that a truce is conditional on progress on the ground and will not occur until Israel fulfills all the demands of the factions. His remarks were quoted by Channel 13 News.
Meanwhile, the IDF continues to attack terror targets in Gaza in retaliation for the rocket fire.
On Sunday evening, IDF fighter jets targeted the office of Tawfiq Abu Naim, Minister of the Interior and Head of the Palestinian Preventive Security in Hamas' Political Bureau in Nuseirat.
Abu Naim had been incarcerated in Israel since 1991 and was released as part of the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange.
Following his release, Abu Naim joined the Hamas leadership. He oversees security measures in the Gaza Strip – including ongoing security, as well as Hamas' Police forces (forces deployed for terror purposes).
Earlier on Sunday, IDF fighter jets targeted a seven-story building disguising an underground offensive terror tunnel in the Al Farkan neighborhood in Gaza City.
As the building was being built in 2010, Hamas took control over it. The terror organization took advantage of the building being built in order to dig a significant, multi-branch tunnel network beneath it. The building is located adjacent to a school in the heart of a civilian neighborhood.
Hamas uses this building for various operational activities, including the protection and concealment of terror infrastructure while completely disregarding its location in the heart of a residential neighborhood.
IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis said on Sunday evening that IDF fighter planes had completed an assault on about 40 terror targets of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations throughout Gaza.
The targets included underground infrastructures, weapons warehouses, military compounds, rocket-launching positions, observation posts, and more. Since Saturday, some 320 terrorist targets have been attacked and IDF attacks continue according to plan.
6. KILLED IN ASHDOD: RABBI PINCHAS MENAHEM PASHWAZMAN

Rabbi Pinchas Menachem Pashwazman was killed by a rocket in the city of Ashdod, the fourth person killed in the current round of fighting.
When the siren went off, the deceased ran to a stairwell to take cover but was hit by shrapnel from the rocket. Rescuers who arrived at the scene attempted to revive him and evacuated him to the hospital, but he died of his wounds on arrival.
The deceased, a young yeshiva student in his early twenties, was a Gur Hasid. He was born in Beit Shemesh to a father who serves as a teacher in the local Gur community. He moved to Ashdod after he got married. His parents are originally from Monsey, New York, and the victim was an American citizen, according to a report by Yeshiva World News.
According to the family, this is the third time that the family has lost family members in disasters. His mother's two brothers perished in disasters, one of them in a terror attack on a bus on Mount Meron, and the other in the Gesher Bnot Yaakov disaster.
He is survived by his wife and four-month old baby.
7. IDF ELIMINATES TERRORIST BEHIND IRANIAN FUNDING OF HAMAS

Israeli forces killed a senior Hamas terrorist Sunday who had been responsible for smuggling Iranian cash into the Gaza Strip, an IDF spokesperson said in a statement.
Hamed Ahmed Abed Khudari, 34, was eliminated in an Israeli airstrike Sunday afternoon, as part of a large-scale Israeli retaliation against a massive wave of rocket attacks from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
Gaza health officials confirmed Sunday afternoon that Khudari had been killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Hamas identified Khudari as one of its commanding officers. He is the fifth casualty reported in Gaza since Israel launched its retaliatory attacks on the Hamas-ruled Strip following a massive wave of rocket attacks that have left three Israelis dead and half a dozen injured.
Two Israelis, ages 40 and 22, were killed Sunday afternoon after a rocket fired from Gaza struck a factory in the coastal city of Ashkelon. On Saturday, 58-year-old Moshe Agadi was killed by a rocket strike on Ashkelon.
Khudari, 34, was the owner of a money-changing company which had been declared a terrorist group in 2018, and had smuggled large amounts of cash from Iran to Islamic Jihad and Hamas, providing the cash-strapped terrorist groups with much-needed foreign currency.
Israeli security forces say Khudari's elimination was a joint effort of the IDF and Shin Bet internal security agency.
"A short while ago, Hamed Ahmed Abed Khudari," an IDF spokesperson said, "was killed in a joint IDF and ISA operation. Khudari was responsible for substantial cash transfers from Iran to terror organizations operating within the Gaza Strip.
"Khudari was the owner of the monetary exchange company, Hamed Co. for Exchange / Al Wefaq Co. for Exchange, which Israel designated a terrorist organization in June 2018.
"Khudari's financial activity, which served as Iran's spearhead in the Gaza Strip, contributed significantly to the promotion of terror activities and the military buildup of terror organizations in the Gaza Strip.
"The IDF and ISA will continue operating to thwart and disrupt Iran's attempts to promote terror activity from within the Gaza Strip by funding terror organizations such as Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the other terror organizations in the Gaza Strip."

8. ISRAELI MAN KILLED AFTER ROCKET HITS CAR

An Israeli man was critically injured Sunday afternoon, when a rocket fired from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip hit his car in southern Israel.
The incident occurred in the Shaar HaNegev district in the vicinity of Kitbbutz Yad Mordechai in southern Israel, when a rocket made a direct hit on a private vehicle, destroying the car and leaving the driver critically injured. Hospital officials at Barziliai hospital in Ashkelon later said that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.
The driver, who is said to be about 60 years of age, was treated at the scene by MDA emergency first responders before being evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
"When we got to the scene on Route 34," said MDA paramedic Ravit Martinez, "we saw a car that had been completely crushed after it had been directly hit by a rocket. Next to it there was a man about 60 years of age lying down unconscious. He was suffering from shrapnel wounds and heavy blood loss. We provided life-saving treatment, loaded him onto a mobile intensive care unit, and continued to perform resuscitation techniques on him as we evacuated him to the hospital while he was in critical condition."
Following the attack, police closed Route 34 to traffic in both directions in the Yad Mordechai area, up to the Shaar HaNegev junction.

Jewish Home chief MK Rabbi Rafi Peretz warned Monday afternoon that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas which went into effect Monday morning would not restore Israel's long-term security, adding that the latest round of fighting between Israel and Gaza did not end with a decisive defeat of the Hamas terror organization.
"This battle needs to result in one thing: a clear sense of deterrence – but we didn't not achieve that," Peretz told Arutz Sheva, hours after a ceasefire went into effect Monday.
"We need to continue work to prevent attacks, continue to hit critical targets which we have the opportunity to strike at. We can't stop this [campaign]."
A resident of southern Israel near the Gaza Strip, Peretz said the ceasefire had left Israelis on the Gaza front with a high level of uncertainty – and anxiety – regarding their security situation.
"I live in the Gaza periphery area, and around there people are very anxious, worried that maybe there could be shooting again in a couple of hours. It's outrageous that we have live with these fears, while the murderous Hamas terrorist leaders walk around in security. They need to be on the agenda all the time, and I know that's the thing that could hurt them the most."
Peretz added that he believed Israel failed to achieve victory or restore its deterrence against Hamas in the latest round of fighting, and said the country "paid too high a price" during the latest escalation.
"In this battle we did not reach a definite conclusion in the sense of restoring deterrence, and as far as I'm concerned, [the battle] isn't over. I'm happy to see that the Prime Minister said the same thing. We need to finish this battle properly. They need to understand that they cannot cross this line, and that there is an iron wall between us."
"We paid too high a price. It is unacceptable that we lose four people dead and almost 100 injured and when we finish the battle, the leaders of Hamas are celebrating in Gaza."

2. 'THE IRON DOME HAS BECOME A SLEEPING PILL'

Lt. Col. Yoni Chetboun, a former MK (Jewish Home) and currently a member of the Netanya Council and a security advisor, published an article criticizing Israel's dependence on the Iron Dome already eight years ago. Arutz Sheva spoke with him about the Iron Dome in light of the current escalation in the south.
"The Iron Dome has become a sleeping pill for the public and military leadership," says Chetboun. "From the time the Iron Dome came into the picture, the residents of Israel and the leadership have gotten used to it intercepting missiles. We've moved to a defensive approach in response to missile attacks on a sovereign state."
In this context, Chetboun also mentions the billions invested in the construction of the fence, which has advanced technological features, along the Gaza border in response to terrorism. "They haven't overcome terrorism in any place in the world through fortification, concrete and fences," Chetboun states.
"Ironically, the Iron Dome was supposed to allow the defense establishment to conduct an offensive campaign inside the Gaza Strip in order to bring about the elimination of terror. Instead, we have drugged ourselves and become accustomed to the constants rounds of rockets. We're still paying the price for it today."
"We must return to the concept of operational control in the Gaza Strip. On the eve of Operation Defensive Shield, the discourse in the defense establishment was that it was impossible to enter the casbah in Nablus and Jenin. In 2000, dozens of soldiers and civilians were killed every week. In 2002, the brigade commanders initiated a move and presented the senior echelon with a proposal for a logical and necessary military operation. We launched Operation Defensive Shield and Israel is the only country that has proven that it's possible to strike the enemy's territory at home in an operational attack. Between 2002 and 2004 we were the only country that succeeded in defeating the terror of suicide bombers."
"The same feeling exists today regarding the Gaza Strip as well. The IDF knows how to enter the Gaza Strip and control it for a prolonged period of time. There would be a heavy price to pay but from a long-term perspective, a country needs to know how to bring in soldiers and protect its citizens. It can't be that we accustom ourselves to the firing of rockets."
And what about civilian strength? Maybe Israeli civilians can't withstand a prolonged operation and aren't interested in paying the heavy price involved?
"Operation Protective Edge, unlike the Second Lebanon War, proved that Israeli society, from the right and left, gave broad legitimacy to operate within the Gaza Strip. We were in the Gaza Strip for 50 days and the social discourse was 'Let the IDF win.' The fact that we didn't accomplish that is another story, but many were surprised by the ability of the Jewish people to sit in bomb shelters over time. I'm certain that when a military and political leadership emerges that will make it clear that we're embarking on a painful military operation to defeat terror, Israeli society will be able to adapt itself to it."
"Often the Arabs make us realize that there's no choice but to attack them aggressively, and that will eventually come," says Chetboun. "Beyond the logical component, this is a perception that will ultimately occur, because it's impossible to remain in this reality for long."
Chetboun clarifies the term "operational control in the Gaza Strip" for us. "Today there's no Jewish settlement in Jenin, Nablus and Ramallah, but the IDF enters freely and makes arrests with full freedom of action. The same freedom of action must be returned to the Gaza Strip. Ultimately, the professional and historical model taught us that they will fire missiles from any place where the IDF not present."

Khudari, 34, was the owner of a money-changing company which had been declared a terrorist group in 2018, and had smuggled large amounts of cash from Iran to Islamic Jihad and Hamas, providing the cash-strapped terrorist groups with much-needed foreign currency.
Israeli security forces say Khudari's elimination was a joint effort of the IDF and Shin Bet internal security agency.
"A short while ago, Hamed Ahmed Abed Khudari," an IDF spokesperson said, "was killed in a joint IDF and ISA operation. Khudari was responsible for substantial cash transfers from Iran to terror organizations operating within the Gaza Strip.
"Khudari was the owner of the monetary exchange company, Hamed Co. for Exchange / Al Wefaq Co. for Exchange, which Israel designated a terrorist organization in June 2018.
"Khudari's financial activity, which served as Iran's spearhead in the Gaza Strip, contributed significantly to the promotion of terror activities and the military buildup of terror organizations in the Gaza Strip.
"The IDF and ISA will continue operating to thwart and disrupt Iran's attempts to promote terror activity from within the Gaza Strip by funding terror organizations such as Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the other terror organizations in the Gaza Strip."

8. ISRAELI MAN KILLED AFTER ROCKET HITS CAR

An Israeli man was critically injured Sunday afternoon, when a rocket fired from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip hit his car in southern Israel.
The incident occurred in the Shaar HaNegev district in the vicinity of Kitbbutz Yad Mordechai in southern Israel, when a rocket made a direct hit on a private vehicle, destroying the car and leaving the driver critically injured. Hospital officials at Barziliai hospital in Ashkelon later said that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.
The driver, who is said to be about 60 years of age, was treated at the scene by MDA emergency first responders before being evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
"When we got to the scene on Route 34," said MDA paramedic Ravit Martinez, "we saw a car that had been completely crushed after it had been directly hit by a rocket. Next to it there was a man about 60 years of age lying down unconscious. He was suffering from shrapnel wounds and heavy blood loss. We provided life-saving treatment, loaded him onto a mobile intensive care unit, and continued to perform resuscitation techniques on him as we evacuated him to the hospital while he was in critical condition."
Following the attack, police closed Route 34 to traffic in both directions in the Yad Mordechai area, up to the Shaar HaNegev junction.

Magen David Adom (MDA) teams are at the scene, administering first aid to the wounded.
"MDA teams are treating and transferring to Barzilai Hospital 3 wounded with shrapnel injuries including a 40 year old and 22 year old with multi-systemic trauma. An additional 50 year old man is being treated for moderate injuries to his upper body and extremities," an MDA spokesperson said.
Code Red sirens were sounded in many communities in the south, in the Beer Sheva area, in the Gaza perimeter, in Hatzerim and in the Bedouin regions, as barrages of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israeli territory.
Most of the rockets have been intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system.
Blue and White Chairman MK Benny Gantz, who is now in the Gaza vicinity, ran to a bomb shelter with journalists who were waiting to hear from him about the deterioration of the security situation.
The Political-Security Cabinet is meeting at this time to discuss the escalation in the south and the possibilities of Israel's response to the rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.

MK Uzi Dayan (Likud) arrived this morning (Sunday) together with Ashkelon mayor Tomer Galam at the home of Moshe Agadi, a father of four, who was killed by a direct rocket hit at his home. Agadi will be laid to rest at 4:00 pm in the city.
Dayan is convinced that the cabinet, which convenes Sunday afternoon under Prime Minister Netanyahu, will make the right decisions following the rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. "From what I see they take it seriously. They do not deal with the question of what will happen to the Eurovision Song Contest, but first of all how to react with force, how to deal with people who are actually represented by the head of the municipality," he said, pointing to the mayor. "We have to help him."
"I came to politics in order to change things, and it is clear that in this term we will have to decide: Either to deter Hamas in a way that there will not be any more cases like this or to bring it down," MK Dayan said.
Mayor Galam said, "I want to send my condolences to the Agadi family. The city of Ashkelon experienced a most unpleasant experience. The Prime Minister spoke to me last night. The family of Moshe Agadi recounted the harrowing moment when he was killed by one of the over 450 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.
His brother Shmulik told Channel 2 television about the incident: "Moshe went out to smoke a cigarette following a barrage and did not have time to enter the protected area [when the rocket fire resumed]. They tried to carry out initial CPR but on the way to the hospital they lost him."
"They always made sure to enter the security room and be careful, this time it caught him outside," he said. "Four children - the youngest, who is 13, is still in shock."
Moti Gamliel, Agadi's neighbor, said on the "Kalman Lieberman" program that "He lived 100 meters from us. When we heard the sirens all night, we went straight to the stairwell, since we do not have a safe room in the house," he said, adding: "It cannot go on like this, Every two years, they want to have a cease-fire. Two hundred rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel on Saturday, and Israel's Iron Dome system intercepted dozens of them.
Air raid sirens sounded in Gaza-area towns, as well as in Beit Shemesh and other Jerusalem-area towns. Rockets also landed in the courtyards of a home and school in Kiryat Gat.
"We can confirm that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad together with Hamas are responsible for firing 200 rockets from Gaza at Israeli civilians over the last 8 hours," an IDF statement read.
An 80-year-old woman was severely injured in Kiryat Gat, after suffering shrapnel wounds to her face. It is not clear what the shrapnel was from. Magen David Adom (MDA) said they administered first aid and transferred the woman to Ashkelon's Barzilai Medical Center, conscious and in severe but stable condition. The shrapnel, which hit her head and limbs, hit blood vessels and caused massive bleeding.
"Immediately after the siren sounded in the Kiryat Gat area, we were called to treat a woman who was injured by shrapnel," MDA paramedic Efraim Yanko said. "When we arrived at the scene, we saw a woman of approximately 80 lying fully conscious and suffering wounds to her head and limbs. We administered life-saving medical aid and transferred her urgently to Barzilai Hospital, in severe and stable condition."
MDA also said they provided aid to a woman who suffered injuries to her limbs while running to a safe area in Gan Yavne, as well as to a woman who suffered shock in Kiryat Gat.
In Ashkelon, a man of 50 suffered moderate injuries when a rocket hit the house he was in. He was transferred to Barzilai Medical Center, with shrapnel wounds in his limbs. Reports said an additional Gaza-area home also suffered a direct hit.
A total of twelve other people have suffered light injuries, and another six have suffered shock. Bathers on Ashdod's beaches were evacuated.
The Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups warned Israel not to continue retaliating for the rockets fired at its citizens.
"Our reactions will become extreme if [Israel] continues its attacks," their statement warned. "We are following Israel closely."Later on Saturday, Israel closed its Kerem Shalom and Erez border crossings with Gaza and closed the enclave's fishing area.

7. IDF PREPARES FOR 'SEVERAL DAYS OF FIGHTING'

The IDF is bolstering forces near the Gaza Strip following the continued rocket fire into Israel, and is moving "Brigade 7" of the Armored Corps to the south.
Since the beginning of the escalation, 450 rockets have been fired into Israel. 150 of them were intercepted by Iron Dome systems.
IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis said that the Air Force attacked about 200 targets, including small terrorist cells, small buildings and warehouses where advanced missiles and rockets were manufactured.
So far, eight terrorists have been killed in the Gaza Strip, and the IDF spokesperson stressed that the army was preparing for several days of fighting. According to Manelis, "Terrorist propaganda is at its best. The mother and child whom they claim in Gaza were killed in an IDF attack were killed by the use of Hamas weapons."
Moshe Agadi, 58, a father of four, was killed Saturday night when a rocket hit the porch of a house in an Ashkelon residential building.
Agadi's funeral will take place at the new cemetery in the city at 4:00 pm.

"We are working and we will continue to act, dozens of targets have been destroyed, terror tunnels have been destroyed. We are at the height of this round," Minister Katz told Kan Bet, adding, "I have not heard any original proposal from the emerging opposition."
He rejected the claims that the government lacks a coherent security policy: "Outside, people said all kinds of things, inside the room there is a policy, not to get into a war to the extent that this is possible, but to react forcefully. Muslim schoolchildren in Philadelphia sang an anti-Israel song claiming promising to liberate the Temple Mount from "Zionists" and to "crush the traitor," The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) reported.
Israel controls security on the Temple Mount, but while Muslims have full and constant access to the mount, Jews are rarely allowed to ascend and banned from praying at the site. The Jordanian Waqf manages the site.
The performances were organized by the Muslim American Society (MAS)'s Philadelphia chapter, in honor of "Ummah Day," which occurred last month.
The event was advertised as focusing on the "Golden age of Islamic science," IPT noted.
Two Twitter videos show a boys' performance and a girls' performance, both embracing terrorism and promoting anti-Semitism. Both songs featured in the performances were produced by the Jordanian "Birds of Paradise" children's group.
In the boys' song, lyrics include: "The blood of the martyrs is calling us" and "Sword and text, oh free men/ until we liberate our lands/until we reach our anchorages/ and we crush the traitor" as.well as "Oh rivers of the martyrs, lads."

Sam Grundwerg, World Chairman of Keren Hayesod - UIA (United Israel Appeal), spoke with Arutz Sheva at Thursday's March of the Living.
"This is the first time that I've participated in the March of the Living, and of course also the first time doing so in my relatively new capacity as World Chairman of Keren Hayesod, which is one of Israel's national institutions," Grundwerg said.
He added that in the March of the Living, "Jews and non-Jews from all over the world" are "here and participating and giving a very strong message to the world about 'never again'...despite the fact that we see a very alarming wave recently of hate and anti-Semitism."
"The fact that we are not going to let that go unanswered and quiet and that we are united around the world...is a very strong message here today," he said.
Grundwerg also said he believes the younger generation came away from the March of the Living with a "very strong message."
"I think we saw in the ceremony a very strong message when they said that they refuse to be victims of the past. Of course they will heed the lessons and the idea of memory which is so central in Judaism - memory of the past," he said, emphasizing that "they will not be victims of the past and they will go forward in the future as leaders to move away from hatred."

A delegation of the blind from the Israel Guide Dog Center participated in the March of the Living on Thursday for Holocaust Memorial Day. An Arutz Sheva reporter spoke to group participants to find out how blind people and their sighted guides experience the March of the Living
"We're a delegation of six blind and visually impaired people from the Israeli Center for the Visually Impaired," a group guide explained. "We came here to provide the visually impaired an opportunity to experience what's happening here."
Many people say how important it is to come to the death camps and see what happened here. How do you accomplish this with a visual impairment?
"The truth is that before this earth-shattering trip, I had a lot of fears," a visually impaired group participant answered. "One of them was how I would experience this without seeing it. But the testimonies and the stories, what I touch and smell - the other senses that we have - simply turned this into an unbelievable experience."
Explain to us further. When you stand in front of a concentration camp block, for example, what do you do?
"We use our sense of smell," the group participant responded. "We listen to the sighted guides, what they tell us. We listen to the testimonies. The testimonies are chilling and for that, we don't need to see."
What does this experience teach you as a sighted person who is guiding the blind on this trip? Are you experiencing the trip through them?
"First of all, it forces us to look at things in much more detail," the group guide elaborated. "We need to explain to them what we're seeing and what we're feeling. We can't just say 'Look, here are the barracks.' We have to say, 'Here are the barracks - there are chimneys above and below is...' It forces the sighted guides to 'see' much more than usual."
4. POLISH BISHOP DELIVERS THINLY-VEILED ANTI-SEMITIC SERMON

A Polish bishop said that "a certain nation" plotted in 1937 to divide and slander the Catholic Church by controlling the media.
Andrzej Jeż, who is the top Catholic spiritual leader in the city of Tarnow near Krakow said this last month in a sermon from Easter, which was filmed and aired Thursday in an article by the Israel Broadcasting Corp., or Kan.
"A certain nation, I can't name it because I would be attacked from all sides immediately, said this: 'Our natural enemy is the Catholic Church. We need to slander them and sow hatred against them, we have to create scandals about their private lives to incite hatred and ridicule against them. We must strengthen our media because then our control will be strong and secure,'" Jez said.
The footage shown by Kan did not say where Jez was quoting from.
Rabbi Michael Schudrich, the chief rabbi of Poland, said the remarks underscore an internal fight within the Catholic Church between supporters and opponents of that institution's reform about 50 years ago against anti-Semitism.
"I've never heard anything like this said," Schudrich told Kan. "What the bishop said goes against modern-day Catholic faith." Schudrich also said that the sermon shows "there is a problem that needs addressing inside the Catholic Church" in Poland, one of the European countries where the Catholic Church enjoys the highest levels of influence.
5. THEY CALLED HER FROM AUSCHWITZ BLOCK SHE SLEPT IN

When the two grandchildren of Holocaust survivor Yaffa Shaindy Gutman traveled to the Auschwitz death camp as part of the program "Witness in uniforms" they called her together with all their friends from the very block she used to sleep in. Her excited response is hard to forget: "The glory of the State of Israel."
Gutman (nee Shapira) was born in Bragas, in the Carpathian Mountains of Hungary. She arrived at Auschwitz at the age of 17, along with her mother and some of her siblings. Many members of her community and her family perished on the death trains and later in Auschwitz.
When they reached Mengele, he directed her mother to the right. Yaffa Shaindy, who knew that her mother was sick and saw that all the sick people were directed to the left, said to Mengele: "She's sick." Mengele looked at her and said, "If you ask ... fine."
They slept in Block 9 in Auschwitz. Toward the end of the war, the Nazis marched them on a death march. A few minutes before the final liberation, when the exchange of fire between the Allied forces and the Germans was still taking place over their heads, her Aunt Klari was hit by a bullet in her head and perished.
Yaffa Sheindi survived, immigrated to Israel and established a wonderful family together with Baruch Gutman.
In the year 2016, two of her grandchildren went on a delegation of "Witnesses in uniform" of IDF officers to the death camps. They reached the ruins of Block 9 where she slept and called her from there. Yaffa Shaindy read a letter she had prepared over the phone and all the members of the unit called out "Am Yisrael Chai."
In the recorded conversation, Yaffa Sheindi asks, "Are there still Germans there? Are there guards? "
Her grandson, Yehuda Leibowitz, who took part in the journey as a reserve soldier, said later: "At that moment I didn't understand what Savta (Grandmother) asked. I only understood later. Today I'm shocked by my grandmother's question about the Nazi guards. Today I have to make an effort to remember how the gate of the camp's entrance looked. But Savta could never forget."
Yaffa Sheindi died last year, surrounded by a loving family, with more than 100 great-grandchildren. She always repeated to her family, "You are my revenge
6. ANTI-ISRAEL LEGISLATION SUBMITTED TO US CONGRESS

New legislation proposed by Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) on Wednesday would prohibit US funding to any foreign military that detains children, including Israel.
The bill, known as the Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act, H.R. 2407, would authorize the creation of an annual $19 million fund to support non-governmental organizations that monitor rights abuses pertaining to the Israeli military's alleged detention of children.
"Israel's system of military juvenile detention is state-sponsored child abuse designed to intimidate and terrorize Palestinian children and their families," McCollum said in a statement on Wednesday. "It must be condemned, but it is equally outrageous that US tax dollars in the form of military aid to Israel are permitted to sustain what is clearly a gross human rights violation against children."
"Peace can only be achieved by respecting human rights, especially the rights of children. Congress must not turn a blind eye to the unjust and ongoing mistreatment of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation," continued McCollum.
"I strongly believe there is a growing consensus among the American people that the Palestinian people deserve justice, equality, human rights, and the right to self-determination. It is time to stand with Palestinians, Americans, Israelis, and people around the world to reject the destructive, dehumanizing, and anti-peace policies of Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump," concluded the statement.
McCollum's bill cites a Human Rights Watch report from 2018 which said that Israel's military "detained Palestinian children often using unnecessary force, questioned them without a family member present, and made them sign confessions in Hebrew, which most did not understand."
The legislation faces an uphill battle in Congress where it is likely to face near-uniform opposition from both Democrats and Republicans.

On Holocaust Memorial Day (Yom Hashoah), Thursday, May 2, under the theme "Say No To Anti-Semitism," more than 10,000 Jewish and non-Jewish youth from 40 countries and dozens of Holocaust survivors and dignitaries from around the world participated in the 31st annual International March of the Living to pay tribute to all victims of the Holocaust and call for an end to anti-Semitism.
A special delegation of US Ambassadors and White House representatives headed by the US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and a distinguished delegation honoring Greek Jewry, which was almost completely annihilated by the Nazis and their collaborators, headed by His All-Holiness Bartholomew I Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, and the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, Mr. Nikos Voutsis, joined the thousands of international participants on the 3-kilometer march from Auschwitz to Birkenau.
"In taking part in the March of the Living, you are marching at a time when a growing wave of anti-Semitism is yet again sweeping the world. But in truth, anti-Semitism never really disappeared – it simply lay barely hidden under the surface waiting for the right time to strike again. And strike it did – in deadly fashion – at the Eitz Chaim synagogue in Pittsburgh last year, and just a few days ago, on the last day of Passover, at the Chabad synagogue in Poway," said Dr. Shmuel Rosenman, Founder and Co-Chairman of the March of the Living, while addressing the participants just prior to the march.
"But today, on Yom Hashoah we gather together in Auschwitz to mourn our 6 million ancestors, a third of the entire Jewish people, who were murdered in the most unprecedented genocide in history. Today, we proclaim to our enemies with a loud and clear voice: We shall not be defeated! We will return here year after year to raise our voices against anti-Semitism and, indeed, against all forms of racism and hatred. As a survivor of Auschwitz once said, the only one thing worse than Auschwitz is if the world ever forgets that there was an Auschwitz. We promise to never allow that to happen."
Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog also led a Jewish Agency delegation behind a far-reaching international campaign against anti-Semitism. In addressing the crowd at Birkenau, Chairman Herzog called on world leaders to fight the rampant anti-Semitism erupting the world over, specifically highlighting the dramatic rise of hate crimes against Jews in Europe. "It cannot be that 74 years after this wretched war, Jews are once again unsafe on the streets of Europe. Jews cannot be murdered in Pittsburgh and Poway or anywhere! Let us heed the warning and take to heart the lessons of the Holocaust. World leaders must unite in zero tolerance for hate crimes of any kind."
His All-Holiness Bartholomew I Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch echoed the sentiments of those who spoke before him, urging global attention to the current egregious wave of unchecked racism and hate. "It is not enough to remember the victims of the Holocaust in the face of the hatred that is sweeping the world. Silence in the face of helpless suffering and the ideologies of racism and intolerance only exacerbates this problem," said the Archbishop. "We must do everything in our powers to prevent another tragedy like the Holocaust. The only way to accomplish this is by striking down all actions that are an afront to our basic humanity."
One day prior to the march, more than 200 young leaders from 10 countries – Jewish and non-Jewish – gathered at the Jageillonian University in Krakow, Poland, to take part in the first-ever 'Emerging Leadership Conference,' an initiative of the International March of the Living launched in response to the torrent of anti-Semitic events and growing global trend of hate crimes against Jews over the last two years. Following a wide-ranging discussion of the young leaders' responsibilities as the new frontline in the war against anti-Semitism, the students drafted a declaration that launched a campaign to rally the support of their peers around the world. The youth delegates read their declaration aloud for the first time at the closing ceremony.
"It has been said: 'The path to Auschwitz was built by hatred, but paved by indifference.' We have the ethical obligation not only as Jews but as human beings to transform the world we see into a place where we want to be," read youth delegates Eial Rosenzvit of Argentina, Noah Tradonsky of South Africa, and Sharon Ghelman of the United States. "Reaching that goal requires us to understand that simply refraining from evil will not allow our vision to reach fruition, for it is in the active pursuit of goodness and the relentless search for kindness that humanity may fulfill its potential. With this declaration we vow to be builders of the future, not victims of the past, and here today we pledge to stand tall in the face of bigotry, raise our voice against anti-Semitism, speak out against racism, and commit to loving all our neighbors as ourselves."
The ceremony also included the lighting of six torches, each one honoring a different group of Holocaust heroes: the Righteous Among the Nations, who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust; survivors of the Holocaust, who picked up the pieces of their shattered world and established new families after suffering through unspeakable horrors; the more than 1 million innocent Jewish children murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust; the countless numbers of rabbis, scholars and teachers murdered in the Holocaust, who dedicated their lives to teaching until the very last moments of their lives; the members of the resistance, who fought to liberate Europe from the hands of Nazi Germany; and those born in the State of Israel, where the Jewish people were reborn after the Holocaust.
Other high-profile marchers and participants include Prime Minister of Romania and President of Council of EU Viorica Dăncilă, Holocaust survivor and Former Israeli Chief Rabbi Israel Lau, who has accompanied every march since 1988, and members of the Premier League's Chelsea Football Club and Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, two professional soccer teams proudly supporting the #SayNoToAntisemitism campaign. In addition, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon led a delegation of dozens of UN ambassadors from around the world, including the ambassadors of Argentina, Latvia, Guatemala, and Honduras among others.
The International March of the Living is an immersive Holocaust education experience – the largest of its kind – that brings tens of thousands of individuals to Poland every year to examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hatred. Since its inception in 1988, more than 300,000 participants from 52 countries have marched down the same 3-kilometer path leading from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Memorial Day as a tribute to all victims of the Holocaust. The bill, known as the Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act, H.R. 2407, would authorize the creation of an annual $19 million fund to support non-governmental organizations that monitor rights abuses pertaining to the Israeli military's alleged detention of children.
"Israel's system of military juvenile detention is state-sponsored child abuse designed to intimidate and terrorize Palestinian children and their families," McCollum said in a statement on Wednesday. "It must be condemned, but it is equally outrageous that US tax dollars in the form of military aid to Israel are permitted to sustain what is clearly a gross human rights violation against children."
"Peace can only be achieved by respecting human rights, especially the rights of children. Congress must not turn a blind eye to the unjust and ongoing mistreatment of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation," continued McCollum.
"I strongly believe there is a growing consensus among the American people that the Palestinian people deserve justice, equality, human rights, and the right to self-determination. It is time to stand with Palestinians, Americans, Israelis, and people around the world to reject the destructive, dehumanizing, and anti-peace policies of Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump," concluded the statement.
McCollum's bill cites a Human Rights Watch report from 2018 which said that Israel's military "detained Palestinian children often using unnecessary force, questioned them without a family member present, and made them sign confessions in Hebrew, which most did not understand."
The legislation faces an uphill battle in Congress where it is likely to face near-uniform opposition from both Democrats and Republicans.

On Holocaust Memorial Day (Yom Hashoah), Thursday, May 2, under the theme "Say No To Anti-Semitism," more than 10,000 Jewish and non-Jewish youth from 40 countries and dozens of Holocaust survivors and dignitaries from around the world participated in the 31st annual International March of the Living to pay tribute to all victims of the Holocaust and call for an end to anti-Semitism.
A special delegation of US Ambassadors and White House representatives headed by the US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and a distinguished delegation honoring Greek Jewry, which was almost completely annihilated by the Nazis and their collaborators, headed by His All-Holiness Bartholomew I Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, and the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, Mr. Nikos Voutsis, joined the thousands of international participants on the 3-kilometer march from Auschwitz to Birkenau.
"In taking part in the March of the Living, you are marching at a time when a growing wave of anti-Semitism is yet again sweeping the world. But in truth, anti-Semitism never really disappeared – it simply lay barely hidden under the surface waiting for the right time to strike again. And strike it did – in deadly fashion – at the Eitz Chaim synagogue in Pittsburgh last year, and just a few days ago, on the last day of Passover, at the Chabad synagogue in Poway," said Dr. Shmuel Rosenman, Founder and Co-Chairman of the March of the Living, while addressing the participants just prior to the march.
"But today, on Yom Hashoah we gather together in Auschwitz to mourn our 6 million ancestors, a third of the entire Jewish people, who were murdered in the most unprecedented genocide in history. Today, we proclaim to our enemies with a loud and clear voice: We shall not be defeated! We will return here year after year to raise our voices against anti-Semitism and, indeed, against all forms of racism and hatred. As a survivor of Auschwitz once said, the only one thing worse than Auschwitz is if the world ever forgets that there was an Auschwitz. We promise to never allow that to happen."
Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog also led a Jewish Agency delegation behind a far-reaching international campaign against anti-Semitism. In addressing the crowd at Birkenau, Chairman Herzog called on world leaders to fight the rampant anti-Semitism erupting the world over, specifically highlighting the dramatic rise of hate crimes against Jews in Europe. "It cannot be that 74 years after this wretched war, Jews are once again unsafe on the streets of Europe. Jews cannot be murdered in Pittsburgh and Poway or anywhere! Let us heed the warning and take to heart the lessons of the Holocaust. World leaders must unite in zero tolerance for hate crimes of any kind."
His All-Holiness Bartholomew I Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch echoed the sentiments of those who spoke before him, urging global attention to the current egregious wave of unchecked racism and hate. "It is not enough to remember the victims of the Holocaust in the face of the hatred that is sweeping the world. Silence in the face of helpless suffering and the ideologies of racism and intolerance only exacerbates this problem," said the Archbishop. "We must do everything in our powers to prevent another tragedy like the Holocaust. The only way to accomplish this is by striking down all actions that are an afront to our basic humanity."
One day prior to the march, more than 200 young leaders from 10 countries – Jewish and non-Jewish – gathered at the Jageillonian University in Krakow, Poland, to take part in the first-ever 'Emerging Leadership Conference,' an initiative of the International March of the Living launched in response to the torrent of anti-Semitic events and growing global trend of hate crimes against Jews over the last two years. Following a wide-ranging discussion of the young leaders' responsibilities as the new frontline in the war against anti-Semitism, the students drafted a declaration that launched a campaign to rally the support of their peers around the world. The youth delegates read their declaration aloud for the first time at the closing ceremony.
"It has been said: 'The path to Auschwitz was built by hatred, but paved by indifference.' We have the ethical obligation not only as Jews but as human beings to transform the world we see into a place where we want to be," read youth delegates Eial Rosenzvit of Argentina, Noah Tradonsky of South Africa, and Sharon Ghelman of the United States. "Reaching that goal requires us to understand that simply refraining from evil will not allow our vision to reach fruition, for it is in the active pursuit of goodness and the relentless search for kindness that humanity may fulfill its potential. With this declaration we vow to be builders of the future, not victims of the past, and here today we pledge to stand tall in the face of bigotry, raise our voice against anti-Semitism, speak out against racism, and commit to loving all our neighbors as ourselves."
The ceremony also included the lighting of six torches, each one honoring a different group of Holocaust heroes: the Righteous Among the Nations, who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust; survivors of the Holocaust, who picked up the pieces of their shattered world and established new families after suffering through unspeakable horrors; the more than 1 million innocent Jewish children murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust; the countless numbers of rabbis, scholars and teachers murdered in the Holocaust, who dedicated their lives to teaching until the very last moments of their lives; the members of the resistance, who fought to liberate Europe from the hands of Nazi Germany; and those born in the State of Israel, where the Jewish people were reborn after the Holocaust.
Other high-profile marchers and participants include Prime Minister of Romania and President of Council of EU Viorica Dăncilă, Holocaust survivor and Former Israeli Chief Rabbi Israel Lau, who has accompanied every march since 1988, and members of the Premier League's Chelsea Football Club and Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, two professional soccer teams proudly supporting the #SayNoToAntisemitism campaign. In addition, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon led a delegation of dozens of UN ambassadors from around the world, including the ambassadors of Argentina, Latvia, Guatemala, and Honduras among others.
The International March of the Living is an immersive Holocaust education experience – the largest of its kind – that brings tens of thousands of individuals to Poland every year to examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hatred. Since its inception in 1988, more than 300,000 participants from 52 countries have marched down the same 3-kilometer path leading from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Memorial Day as a tribute to all victims of the Holocaust. "There's no place in the world for anti-Semitism. We have to do a better job, all of us, in understanding each other, tolerating each other.
"The atrocities that were committed on this ground can never ever occur again. As Mr. Mosberg said, we must always remember the Holocaust, we can never forgive those who murdered 6 million Jews and we have to always honor their memory. It's the most important lesson to mankind - the lesson of the Holocaust."
Asked if he drew a connection between the deadly anti-Semitic shootings in Pittsburgh and Poway and his participation in March of the Living, he said, "You know the words of the Haggadah, 'In every generation they rise up to destroy us.' This is not going to be eradicated or cured with slogans or easy steps. Anti-Semitism is a disease that has plagued mankind since there has been mankind, so of course we condemn all acts of anti-Semitism and hostilities towards anyone based on religion or race or ethnicity. This is much bigger than any single event. This is about how we are as human beings and the tolerance that we have to bring to our lives."
Friedman also addressed the significance of the US delegation of which he is a part. "This is the first time the US has sent a delegation to the March of the Living, and it reflects the will of the administration's unqualified commitment to fight anti-Semitism in all its ugly forms."

Your recent tweet and aligning with the false campaign against the Eli Mechina was deeply disappointing to me. Since I sincerely greatly respect you, I am confident that if you would have heard the entire lesson and not just the few sentences that were taken out of context by small-minded journalists, you would have understood that there isn't even the slightest mention of racism.
As a religious person who says in our prayers "You have chosen us from amongst all the nations," and as a Yeshiva graduate, you certainly know that in Judaism there is a much deeper meaning which must be understood and which is the furthest thing from racism and hatred. Judaism is certainly the most loving religion of the world and of mankind that exists.
You are also familiar with the wonderful Eli Mechina and the generations of students, soldiers and officers who love the nation, the land, the Torah and mankind , that it has produced. If their rabbis were not worthy, their graduates could not have turned out so wonderful.
I regret that you unintentionally aligned yourself with those who wish to harm this great institution.

US Special Envoy for Combating anti-Semitism Elan Carr spoke to Arutz Sheva at March of the Living at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
"The message here is first of all to remember," Carr said. "To remember, to mourn, and never to let go of what happened here."
Carr continued: "It's never enough to look at the past. What does that mean for us, today in the present and in the future. And that is to make a commitment, a solemn oath, that we will never allow this to happen again, or never even allow us to go in the path of allowing something like this to happen again, and that means to fight anti-Semitism with every fiber in our being."
Carr said being at Auschwitz after the Pittsburgh and San Diego shootings was particularly meaningful: "We have to fight anti-Semitism everywhere; I attended the funeral of Laurie Kay just a few days ago in San Diego, and she was killed because of who she was - being a Jew - and was murdered just a few days before Yom HaShoah."
Regarding claims that President Trump and his administration are "not doing enough" to fight anti-Semitism, Carr was adamant: "As the one who was tasked by this President and by the Secretary of State to fight anti-Semitism, I have to say I couldn't be more proud of the unprecedented commitment of this administration to fight against anti-Semitism, to fight for the protection and the safety of the Jewish People, and to support the State of Israel.
"There is no administration, no president, no secretary of state that have ever committed themselves to this extent to fight for the protection and the safety of the Jewish People, and to support the State of Israel, and I'm proud to represent them," Carr concluded.

5. ROCKETS FIRED AT SOUTHERN ISRAEL

Sirens were sounded early Thursday morning in the Shaar Hanegev and Sdot Negev regional councils in southern Israel.
The IDF confirmed that two launches had been identified from Gaza toward Israel.
The rockets appear to have exploded in open areas, without causing injuries or damages.
Earlier, Israeli warplanes and military aircraft attacked a number of terrorist targets in a military compound belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in northern Gaza, the IDF said.
The attack was carried out in response to the firing of incendiary balloons into Israeli territory earlier.
"The IDF views with severity any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and will continue to act against these terrorist acts. The Hamas terrorist organization bears responsibility for everything happening in and out of the Gaza Strip," the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement.
On Wednesday evening, a fire broke out in the Eshkol Regional Council, as a result of an incendiary balloon that was fired from Gaza.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames. There were no reports of injuries.
Earlier this week, terrorists from Gaza launched a rocket toward southern Israel that exploded in the sea, near Ashdod, and caused no injuries or damage.
In response to the rocket fire, the IDF announced that the fishing area in Gaza would be reduced to six nautical miles until further notice.
IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis said that the Islamic Jihad was behind the rocket fire and that the attack was aimed at disrupting the agreement between Israel and Hamas.
6. 'WITHOUT EDUCATION, JUSTICE PORTFOLIOS, THERE IS NO GOVERNMENT'

MK Bezalel Smotrich, chairman of the National Union and number two on the United Right list, sent a clear message to Netanyahu ahead of the continuation of coalition talks.
"Without the education and justice portfolios for the United Right, there will be no government," Smotrich said in an interview with Radio 103FM.
"Netanyahu is a serious man, he will not go to elections," Smotrich assessed. "It is irrelevant if Netanyahu does not want me as justice minister, because without me there is no coalition. I am not returning to a government in which we are hanged in the Supreme Court."
Yesterday, Jewish Home Chairman Rabbi Rafi Peretz emphasized to Arutz Sheva that United Right was steadfast in its demand to receive both the education and justice portfolios.
"We will fight for these portfolios," he said. "I think we deserve them, we're not asking for a favor. It is unthinkable that everyone will continue to receive what they had previously, and only we, who traditionally receive the education portfolio and who had the justice portfolio in the last Knesset [won't receive it]. It's unthinkable that these portfolios will be taken [away from us]. We have six Knesset members. I, G-d willing, will be Education Minister, and my good friend Bezalel [Smotrich] will be Justice Minister."
Rabbi Peretz also rejected reports that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu does not intend to appoint Smotrich as Justice Minister.
"I see it as a spin," he said. "I don't know where it came from but that spin is inappropriate considering we haven't started negotiations. Nothing has been decided for anyone, including us. First of all they have to listen to our demands, we can talk, it's negotiations, we think about things, but our stance is very clear and it's not up for debate: We came to change things in the State of Israel. Both regarding education and regarding justice. We have what to say and I think it'll be a huge blessing for the State of Israel."
"In education, we will deepen the Israeli and Jewish identities in every one of Israel's precious children, and in the Justice Ministry, we will set clear boundaries for the Supreme Court, for where justice is given, and for the Legislative Authority."

8. DO PA ARABS WANT ISRAELI SOVEREIGNTY?

Many Palestinian Authority residents expressed their distrust of the Arab leadership and even said that they preferred Israeli rule in interviews with Kan News.
In light of the refusal of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to accept the budgets that the State of Israel transfers to him every month due to the reduction of the salaries of the terrorists, there is a fear that the PA will collapse.
Despite the fears of the international community, the Arab street is not as worried about the situation and there are those who even call on the State of Israel to come and rule over Judea and Samaria.
One of the interviewees said: "Let Israel come here. The Palestinian Authority (PA) is not interested in us. The PA does what it wants and not what the citizens want. We want things to be comfortable for citizens and not for the PA to have money hidden in its pockets and chairs. When asked whether he was alone in that opinion if it was shared by many residents of the PA, he replied,"A lot. I tell you a lot [of people think like this]."
Another Arab expressed his anger at the PA government and stated that Abbas is the only person pleased with the existence of the Palestinian Authority. "The members of the security forces also receive only a quarter of a regular salary. Only the top official at the top is satisfied. The rest are not."
Abbas has refused to accept the tax revenues that Israel collects for the Palestinian Authority, in protest against the offsetting of the salaries the PA pays to terrorists from these budgets.
In a recent PA meeting, Abbas said: "Our position is clear: We will not accept the funds from Israel after a reduction, and if Israel renews the agreements, we are prepared to conduct a dialogue with it and live with it in good neighborliness."

5. ROCKETS FIRED AT SOUTHERN ISRAEL

Sirens were sounded early Thursday morning in the Shaar Hanegev and Sdot Negev regional councils in southern Israel.
The IDF confirmed that two launches had been identified from Gaza toward Israel.
The rockets appear to have exploded in open areas, without causing injuries or damages.
Earlier, Israeli warplanes and military aircraft attacked a number of terrorist targets in a military compound belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in northern Gaza, the IDF said.
The attack was carried out in response to the firing of incendiary balloons into Israeli territory earlier.
"The IDF views with severity any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and will continue to act against these terrorist acts. The Hamas terrorist organization bears responsibility for everything happening in and out of the Gaza Strip," the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement.
On Wednesday evening, a fire broke out in the Eshkol Regional Council, as a result of an incendiary balloon that was fired from Gaza.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames. There were no reports of injuries.
Earlier this week, terrorists from Gaza launched a rocket toward southern Israel that exploded in the sea, near Ashdod, and caused no injuries or damage.
In response to the rocket fire, the IDF announced that the fishing area in Gaza would be reduced to six nautical miles until further notice.
IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis said that the Islamic Jihad was behind the rocket fire and that the attack was aimed at disrupting the agreement between Israel and Hamas.
6. 'WITHOUT EDUCATION, JUSTICE PORTFOLIOS, THERE IS NO GOVERNMENT'

MK Bezalel Smotrich, chairman of the National Union and number two on the United Right list, sent a clear message to Netanyahu ahead of the continuation of coalition talks.
"Without the education and justice portfolios for the United Right, there will be no government," Smotrich said in an interview with Radio 103FM.
"Netanyahu is a serious man, he will not go to elections," Smotrich assessed. "It is irrelevant if Netanyahu does not want me as justice minister, because without me there is no coalition. I am not returning to a government in which we are hanged in the Supreme Court."
Yesterday, Jewish Home Chairman Rabbi Rafi Peretz emphasized to Arutz Sheva that United Right was steadfast in its demand to receive both the education and justice portfolios.
"We will fight for these portfolios," he said. "I think we deserve them, we're not asking for a favor. It is unthinkable that everyone will continue to receive what they had previously, and only we, who traditionally receive the education portfolio and who had the justice portfolio in the last Knesset [won't receive it]. It's unthinkable that these portfolios will be taken [away from us]. We have six Knesset members. I, G-d willing, will be Education Minister, and my good friend Bezalel [Smotrich] will be Justice Minister."
Rabbi Peretz also rejected reports that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu does not intend to appoint Smotrich as Justice Minister.
"I see it as a spin," he said. "I don't know where it came from but that spin is inappropriate considering we haven't started negotiations. Nothing has been decided for anyone, including us. First of all they have to listen to our demands, we can talk, it's negotiations, we think about things, but our stance is very clear and it's not up for debate: We came to change things in the State of Israel. Both regarding education and regarding justice. We have what to say and I think it'll be a huge blessing for the State of Israel."
"In education, we will deepen the Israeli and Jewish identities in every one of Israel's precious children, and in the Justice Ministry, we will set clear boundaries for the Supreme Court, for where justice is given, and for the Legislative Authority."
7. ANTI-ISRAEL LEGISLATION SUBMITTED TO US CONGRESS

New legislation proposed by Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) on Wednesday would prohibit US funding to any foreign military that detains children, including Israel.
The bill, known as the Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act, H.R. 2407, would authorize the creation of an annual $19 million fund to support non-governmental organizations that monitor rights abuses pertaining to the Israeli military's alleged detention of children.
"Israel's system of military juvenile detention is state-sponsored child abuse designed to intimidate and terrorize Palestinian children and their families," McCollum said in a statement on Wednesday. "It must be condemned, but it is equally outrageous that US tax dollars in the form of military aid to Israel are permitted to sustain what is clearly a gross human rights violation against children."
"Peace can only be achieved by respecting human rights, especially the rights of children. Congress must not turn a blind eye to the unjust and ongoing mistreatment of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation," continued McCollum.
"I strongly believe there is a growing consensus among the American people that the Palestinian people deserve justice, equality, human rights, and the right to self-determination. It is time to stand with Palestinians, Americans, Israelis, and people around the world to reject the destructive, dehumanizing, and anti-peace policies of Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump," concluded the statement.
McCollum's bill cites a Human Rights Watch report from 2018 which said that Israel's military "detained Palestinian children often using unnecessary force, questioned them without a family member present, and made them sign confessions in Hebrew, which most did not understand."
The legislation faces an uphill battle in Congress where it is likely to face near-uniform opposition from both Democrats and Republicans.
8. DO PA ARABS WANT ISRAELI SOVEREIGNTY?

Many Palestinian Authority residents expressed their distrust of the Arab leadership and even said that they preferred Israeli rule in interviews with Kan News.
In light of the refusal of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to accept the budgets that the State of Israel transfers to him every month due to the reduction of the salaries of the terrorists, there is a fear that the PA will collapse.
Despite the fears of the international community, the Arab street is not as worried about the situation and there are those who even call on the State of Israel to come and rule over Judea and Samaria.
One of the interviewees said: "Let Israel come here. The Palestinian Authority (PA) is not interested in us. The PA does what it wants and not what the citizens want. We want things to be comfortable for citizens and not for the PA to have money hidden in its pockets and chairs. When asked whether he was alone in that opinion if it was shared by many residents of the PA, he replied,"A lot. I tell you a lot [of people think like this]."
Another Arab expressed his anger at the PA government and stated that Abbas is the only person pleased with the existence of the Palestinian Authority. "The members of the security forces also receive only a quarter of a regular salary. Only the top official at the top is satisfied. The rest are not."
Abbas has refused to accept the tax revenues that Israel collects for the Palestinian Authority, in protest against the offsetting of the salaries the PA pays to terrorists from these budgets.
In a recent PA meeting, Abbas said: "Our position is clear: We will not accept the funds from Israel after a reduction, and if Israel renews the agreements, we are prepared to conduct a dialogue with it and live with it in good neighborliness."

Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC), spoke about the rise in all forms of antisemitism at the release of the 2018 Annual Report on Antisemitism Worldwide at the Kantor Center at Tel Aviv University.
"If I have to summarize in one sentence the situation concerning antisemitism in 2018 and the beginning of 2019, I would say it is the increasing sense of emergency among Jews in many countries around the world," Dr. Kantor said.
"Anti-Semitism has recently progressed to the point of calling into question the very continuation of Jewish life in many parts of the world. As we saw with the second mass shooting of a synagogue in the US, many parts of the world that were previously regarded as safe no longer are."
"Additionally, as we recently witnessed with the disgraceful cartoon in The New York Times, anti-Semitism has entered gradually into the public discourse. Threats, harassment, and insults have become more violent, inciting to even more physical violence against Jews. It feels like almost every taboo relating to Jews, Judaism and Jewish life has been broken."
In 2018, we witnessed the largest number of Jews murdered in a single year in decades.
The number of the most severe and violent incidents monitored worldwide by the Kantor Center was close to 400 - representing a 13 % increase from last year.
In Western European countries, the situation is the worst – specifically in Germany where there was a 70 percent increase in violent anti-Semitism.
The countries with the highest number of major violent cases are the US with over 100 cases, the UK with 68 cases, France and Germany with 35 cases each and Canada with 20 reported cases involving violence against Jews.
"It is now clear that anti-Semitism is no longer limited to the far-Left, far-Right and radical Islamist's triangle - it has become mainstream and often accepted by civil society," Dr. Kantor continued. "It represents a clear danger not only to Jews but to society as a whole. Anti-Semitism is the common denominator that unites extremists on the political spectrum, as part of their politics of intolerance that puts us all in danger."
"With the political center becoming more fragile, these extremist movements and groups seek to gain political power by attacking the foundations of democratic societies," Dr. Kantor concluded.
2. PHOTO COLLECTION OF DACHAU CONCENTRATION CAMP REVEALED

A collection of photographs and written testimony from the Dachau concentration camp has been revealed to the public for the first time, following its discovery.
The hitherto unknown album had been assembled by Adrian Aloy, a member of the Belgian underground during World War II.
The recently discovered collection, set to go on sale next month at the Kedem Auction House, includes photographs taken from the liberation of Dachau, including during the period of reprisals by prisoners and US soldiers on S.S. guards who had run the camp prior to its liberation.
In the notes attached to the album, Aloy describes the American advance towards the camp.
"The Americans, who just a few days ago said they were located along the Danube, have already passed Augsburg… we can hear, barely, the sounds of battle."
Aloy also noted the sudden change in the behavior of the S.S. guards shortly before the camp's liberation.
"The discipline, which had been so merciless just a short time ago, has disappeared completely. The German officer Alphonse, a morally degenerated bully, is almost looking at us sweetly now."
"The [Allied] attack on the camp is expected soon…you can see it in [the S.S. guards'] eyes… the white flag is waving in the entrance tower of the… S.S. guards. They're waving the white flag!"
During the camp's liberation, Aloy described how American soldiers gunned down captured S.S. guards, after the US soldiers discovered the atrocities committed by the German forces at Dachau.
"The shots are going off, and suddenly the first American soldiers appeared, rifles in hand, shoving the S.S. guards. Then right away, without mercy, they wiped them out without any trial."
Some 200,000 people were held at the Dachau camp, roughly two-thirds of them Soviet prisoners or political prisoners of war – including a number of Catholic priests – and one-third of them Jews. Approximately 30,000 people are estimated to have been killed at Dachau.

3. LIKUD TRYING TO RECRUIT BLUE AND WHITE'S HAREDI MK?

The Likud is working to convince a number of newly-minted MKs from the Blue and White party to jump ship at the beginning of the 21st Knesset's term, a new report by Yediot Ahronot claims.
On Wednesday, just a day after the 120 Knesset Members elected last month were sworn in to the Israeli parliament, Yediot Ahronot reported that Natan Eshel, one of the Likud officials leading the party's coalition negotiations, is actively working to lead several MKs from the rival Blue and White party away from the faction – and into the Likud.
One of Eshel's top targets is freshman MK Omer Yankelevich, a haredi MK in the Israel Resilience faction of the Blue and White party – and the only female haredi lawmaker in the Knesset.
According to the Yediot report, Eshel has been attempting to use connections in the haredi world to encourage Yankelevich to abandon the Blue and White party in favor of the Likud. Eshel's efforts have reportedly included investigating which rabbis Yankelevich would be most likely to be influenced by.
Eshel has reportedly offered the first-time MK chairmanship of a Knesset committee.
The Likud is hoping to recruit at least one Blue and White MK, thus enabling Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to form a narrow 61-MK coalition without former Defense Minister Avidgor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu party.
At present, 65 MKs, including Yisrael Beytenu's five-member delegation, have backed Netanyahu for premier. Without Yisrael Beytenu, Netanyahu would be unable to form a right-wing – religious coalition. The Blue and White party has ruled out forming a unity government with Netanyahu.
"We don't have a government without her vote," Eshel is quoted as telling haredi officials. "If we do get her vote, then Netanyahu will have a government even without Evet [Liberman]."
"We want her to bolt from Blue and White and come over to the Likud. She'll be given chairmanship of an important committee which handles issues related to the haredi community. She won't just be another MK without any influence within the Blue and White."
Eshel has denied the claims, saying "This kind of report is good for me, but we have not asked and are not interested in her or others. We are happy with the 65 [MKs] that we have."

Rabbi Uriel Vigler was heading to morning prayers on Tuesday as he does every day on Manhattan's Upper East Side, just before 7 a.m., when a man began shouting anti-Semitic insults at him.
Vigler said the man called him a "f***ing Jew."
"Instinctively, I moved away," he told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. "I moved to the other side of the street, and he follows me and he said, 'Are you nervous, are you scared?'"
As Vigler neared the synagogue, he said the man lunged at him. When the assailant noticed the congregation's security guard, he turned around and called the rabbi "the devil." The rabbi recorded the end of the incident and shared the video on Facebook.
Though the man did not harm Vigler, the rabbi believes that if the security guard had not been present, the assailant would have physically attacked him. Vigler has filed a report with the New York Police Department but has yet to hear back.
The incident comes just days after a shooter attacked a Chabad synagogue in Poway, California, killing one and wounding three.
Vigler, who leads the Chabad Israel Center on the Upper East Side along with his wife, Shevy, said he would not let the incident deter him from doing his work.
"We are not afraid," he said. "We are going to continue our mission to spread goodness and kindness in the world, to reach out to Jews with unconditional love."
5. POWAY SHOOTER HAD 50 UNFIRED BULLETS

John Earnest, the man accused of attacking the Chabad of Poway synagogue in Southern California this past Shabbat only eight to 10 of the roughly 60 bullets he had before his weapon jammed, prosecutors said Tuesday, according to Fox News.
Earnest, 19, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder in the shooting in which one woman was killed and three people wounded, including the synagogue's rabbi.
Earnest was arrested shortly after the attack with 50 unfired bullets, a tactical vest and helmet, prosecutors said during his arraignment.
At the hearing, he stood behind a glass panel, wearing blue jail clothes and showing no apparent emotion. He uttered only one word — "yes" — to waive his right to a speedy preliminary hearing.
The judge scheduled a status hearing for May 30 and denied bail, calling Earnest an extreme threat to public safety.
Poway was formally charged on Monday with murder and attempted murder. Authorities have also charged him with arson in connection to a fire last month at an Escondido mosque.
Prior to the attack Earnest had published an anti-Semitic screed online in which he claimed responsibility for an arson attack against a mosque in the area weeks earlier.
Police investigating the shooting attack say Earnest acted alone and was not part of any organized group.
The suspect's parents said on Monday that their son and five siblings were raised in a family that "rejected hate and taught that love must be the motive for everything we do."
"To our great shame, he is now part of the history of evil that has been perpetrated on Jewish people for centuries," the parents said in their first public comments following the shooting attack. "Our son's actions were informed by people we do not know, and ideas we do not hold."
The parents, who are cooperating with investigators, refused to provide legal representation to their son, and he was represented by a public defender.
6. FBI WARNED OF POWAY SHOOTER 5 MINUTES BEFORE ATTACK

The FBI revealed on Monday that it had received a warning about the Poway synagogue shooter five minutes before he carried out a deadly shooting attack.
On Saturday, during morning services, John T. Earnest opened fire on worshippers at the Chabad of Poway, killing one and wounding three, including the synagogue's rabbi and an eight-year-old girl.
The FBI had received a warning about Earnest minutes before the attack, but did not have enough time to locate the suspect.
Short;y before the attack was carried out Earnest posted an anti-Semitic manifesto on the 8-Chan board, an online community notorious for hosting extremists. In his manifesto Earnest accused the Jewish people of seeking to destroy the European race, accused President Trump of being controlled by Jews, and vowed to post a live-stream on Facebook of an attack on a Jewish target.
7. FRENCH AMBASSADOR SUMMONED FOR REPRIMAND

French Ambassador to Israel Hélène Le Gal was summoned on Monday to Israel's Foreign Ministry for a dressing down after a outgoing French Ambassador to the United States Gerard Araud called Israel an "apartheid state."
Le Gal, who met with Rodica Radian-Gordon, was harshly reprimanded for Araud's interview with the The Atlantic, in which he criticized US President Donald Trump's "deal of the century" and said the plan allows "the more powerful [party]" to "impose terms on the weaker party."
"That's the basis of Jared Kushner's [peace plan]," he said then, adding that "it will be a proposal very close to what the Israelis want."
If Israel makes residents of the Palestinian Authority citizens of Israel or stateless, he explained, that would be "an apartheid" and "there will be officially an apartheid state. They are in fact already."
All Israeli officials have been banned from meeting Araud, who is expected to arrive in Israel in the coming days.
8. NETANYAHU BRISTLES AT HAREDI LAWMAKERS' DEMANDS

As negotiations begin for the formation of the 35th Government of Israel, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is warning that haredi lawmakers are making "excessive demands" which cannot be realistically met, Israel Hayom reported Tuesday morning.
This week, faction leaders met with the Likud's negotiating team, kicking off talks towards the formation of the next government.
With Netanyahu expected to form a narrow coalition government with 65 MKs from the six right-wing and religious factions – Likud, Kulanu, Yisrael Beytenu, Union of Right-Wing Parties, Shas, and United Torah Judaism – each potential coalition partner, with the exception of Kulanu, will be necessary for reaching the 61-MK minimum for a majority government.
That has emboldened faction leaders to press the Likud for major concessions, either on the future government's agenda or with regard to the distribution of ministries.
The Union of Right-Wing Parties, which won just five seats, compared to the eight seats its member factions won in 2015, is pushing to retain the Education and Justice ministries – while also demanding that the government include annexation of some Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria in the coalition's agenda. During the previous Knesset, the party also held the Agriculture Ministry – but is now seeking the Housing Ministry.
Kulanu, which plummeted from 10 to four seats, has asked to retain the powerful Finance Ministry, while Yisrael Beytenu has demanded it return to the Defense Ministry, which party chairman Avidgor Liberman left last November.
But the most greatest demands have been levelled by the two haredi factions – Shas and United Torah Judaism – which have called for significantly more influence in the next government, demanding a total of seven ministries between the two parties, compared to just three held by the two factions in the previous term.
Shas, which rose from seven seats to eight, has requested three ministries and a deputy minister, while UTJ, which rose from six seats to eight, has called for a total of four ministries – though in keeping with the party's policy of not officially accepting ministerial positions, its representatives would serve as deputy ministers.
According to Israel Hayom, Prime Minister Netanyahu has balked at the demands of the two haredi factions, telling his inner circle that the terms offered by the two parties were excessive.
The two parties have also, according to Kikar Hashabbat, demanded a deputy minister for Shas and control of a number of powerful Knesset committees, including the finance committee (currently held by UTJ), and the constitution and law committee (currently held by the Jewish Home).

3. LIKUD TRYING TO RECRUIT BLUE AND WHITE'S HAREDI MK?

The Likud is working to convince a number of newly-minted MKs from the Blue and White party to jump ship at the beginning of the 21st Knesset's term, a new report by Yediot Ahronot claims.
On Wednesday, just a day after the 120 Knesset Members elected last month were sworn in to the Israeli parliament, Yediot Ahronot reported that Natan Eshel, one of the Likud officials leading the party's coalition negotiations, is actively working to lead several MKs from the rival Blue and White party away from the faction – and into the Likud.
One of Eshel's top targets is freshman MK Omer Yankelevich, a haredi MK in the Israel Resilience faction of the Blue and White party – and the only female haredi lawmaker in the Knesset.
According to the Yediot report, Eshel has been attempting to use connections in the haredi world to encourage Yankelevich to abandon the Blue and White party in favor of the Likud. Eshel's efforts have reportedly included investigating which rabbis Yankelevich would be most likely to be influenced by.
Eshel has reportedly offered the first-time MK chairmanship of a Knesset committee.
The Likud is hoping to recruit at least one Blue and White MK, thus enabling Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to form a narrow 61-MK coalition without former Defense Minister Avidgor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu party.
At present, 65 MKs, including Yisrael Beytenu's five-member delegation, have backed Netanyahu for premier. Without Yisrael Beytenu, Netanyahu would be unable to form a right-wing – religious coalition. The Blue and White party has ruled out forming a unity government with Netanyahu.
"We don't have a government without her vote," Eshel is quoted as telling haredi officials. "If we do get her vote, then Netanyahu will have a government even without Evet [Liberman]."
"We want her to bolt from Blue and White and come over to the Likud. She'll be given chairmanship of an important committee which handles issues related to the haredi community. She won't just be another MK without any influence within the Blue and White."
Eshel has denied the claims, saying "This kind of report is good for me, but we have not asked and are not interested in her or others. We are happy with the 65 [MKs] that we have."
4. DAYS AFTER POWAY, MAN HARASSES AND LUNGES AT CHABAD RABBI IN NY

Rabbi Uriel Vigler was heading to morning prayers on Tuesday as he does every day on Manhattan's Upper East Side, just before 7 a.m., when a man began shouting anti-Semitic insults at him.
Vigler said the man called him a "f***ing Jew."
"Instinctively, I moved away," he told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. "I moved to the other side of the street, and he follows me and he said, 'Are you nervous, are you scared?'"
As Vigler neared the synagogue, he said the man lunged at him. When the assailant noticed the congregation's security guard, he turned around and called the rabbi "the devil." The rabbi recorded the end of the incident and shared the video on Facebook.
Though the man did not harm Vigler, the rabbi believes that if the security guard had not been present, the assailant would have physically attacked him. Vigler has filed a report with the New York Police Department but has yet to hear back.
The incident comes just days after a shooter attacked a Chabad synagogue in Poway, California, killing one and wounding three.
Vigler, who leads the Chabad Israel Center on the Upper East Side along with his wife, Shevy, said he would not let the incident deter him from doing his work.
"We are not afraid," he said. "We are going to continue our mission to spread goodness and kindness in the world, to reach out to Jews with unconditional love."
5. POWAY SHOOTER HAD 50 UNFIRED BULLETS

John Earnest, the man accused of attacking the Chabad of Poway synagogue in Southern California this past Shabbat only eight to 10 of the roughly 60 bullets he had before his weapon jammed, prosecutors said Tuesday, according to Fox News.
Earnest, 19, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder in the shooting in which one woman was killed and three people wounded, including the synagogue's rabbi.
Earnest was arrested shortly after the attack with 50 unfired bullets, a tactical vest and helmet, prosecutors said during his arraignment.
At the hearing, he stood behind a glass panel, wearing blue jail clothes and showing no apparent emotion. He uttered only one word — "yes" — to waive his right to a speedy preliminary hearing.
The judge scheduled a status hearing for May 30 and denied bail, calling Earnest an extreme threat to public safety.
Poway was formally charged on Monday with murder and attempted murder. Authorities have also charged him with arson in connection to a fire last month at an Escondido mosque.
Prior to the attack Earnest had published an anti-Semitic screed online in which he claimed responsibility for an arson attack against a mosque in the area weeks earlier.
Police investigating the shooting attack say Earnest acted alone and was not part of any organized group.
The suspect's parents said on Monday that their son and five siblings were raised in a family that "rejected hate and taught that love must be the motive for everything we do."
"To our great shame, he is now part of the history of evil that has been perpetrated on Jewish people for centuries," the parents said in their first public comments following the shooting attack. "Our son's actions were informed by people we do not know, and ideas we do not hold."
The parents, who are cooperating with investigators, refused to provide legal representation to their son, and he was represented by a public defender.
6. FBI WARNED OF POWAY SHOOTER 5 MINUTES BEFORE ATTACK

The FBI revealed on Monday that it had received a warning about the Poway synagogue shooter five minutes before he carried out a deadly shooting attack.
On Saturday, during morning services, John T. Earnest opened fire on worshippers at the Chabad of Poway, killing one and wounding three, including the synagogue's rabbi and an eight-year-old girl.
The FBI had received a warning about Earnest minutes before the attack, but did not have enough time to locate the suspect.
Short;y before the attack was carried out Earnest posted an anti-Semitic manifesto on the 8-Chan board, an online community notorious for hosting extremists. In his manifesto Earnest accused the Jewish people of seeking to destroy the European race, accused President Trump of being controlled by Jews, and vowed to post a live-stream on Facebook of an attack on a Jewish target.
7. FRENCH AMBASSADOR SUMMONED FOR REPRIMAND

French Ambassador to Israel Hélène Le Gal was summoned on Monday to Israel's Foreign Ministry for a dressing down after a outgoing French Ambassador to the United States Gerard Araud called Israel an "apartheid state."
Le Gal, who met with Rodica Radian-Gordon, was harshly reprimanded for Araud's interview with the The Atlantic, in which he criticized US President Donald Trump's "deal of the century" and said the plan allows "the more powerful [party]" to "impose terms on the weaker party."
"That's the basis of Jared Kushner's [peace plan]," he said then, adding that "it will be a proposal very close to what the Israelis want."
If Israel makes residents of the Palestinian Authority citizens of Israel or stateless, he explained, that would be "an apartheid" and "there will be officially an apartheid state. They are in fact already."
All Israeli officials have been banned from meeting Araud, who is expected to arrive in Israel in the coming days.
8. NETANYAHU BRISTLES AT HAREDI LAWMAKERS' DEMANDS

As negotiations begin for the formation of the 35th Government of Israel, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is warning that haredi lawmakers are making "excessive demands" which cannot be realistically met, Israel Hayom reported Tuesday morning.
This week, faction leaders met with the Likud's negotiating team, kicking off talks towards the formation of the next government.
With Netanyahu expected to form a narrow coalition government with 65 MKs from the six right-wing and religious factions – Likud, Kulanu, Yisrael Beytenu, Union of Right-Wing Parties, Shas, and United Torah Judaism – each potential coalition partner, with the exception of Kulanu, will be necessary for reaching the 61-MK minimum for a majority government.
That has emboldened faction leaders to press the Likud for major concessions, either on the future government's agenda or with regard to the distribution of ministries.
The Union of Right-Wing Parties, which won just five seats, compared to the eight seats its member factions won in 2015, is pushing to retain the Education and Justice ministries – while also demanding that the government include annexation of some Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria in the coalition's agenda. During the previous Knesset, the party also held the Agriculture Ministry – but is now seeking the Housing Ministry.
Kulanu, which plummeted from 10 to four seats, has asked to retain the powerful Finance Ministry, while Yisrael Beytenu has demanded it return to the Defense Ministry, which party chairman Avidgor Liberman left last November.
But the most greatest demands have been levelled by the two haredi factions – Shas and United Torah Judaism – which have called for significantly more influence in the next government, demanding a total of seven ministries between the two parties, compared to just three held by the two factions in the previous term.
Shas, which rose from seven seats to eight, has requested three ministries and a deputy minister, while UTJ, which rose from six seats to eight, has called for a total of four ministries – though in keeping with the party's policy of not officially accepting ministerial positions, its representatives would serve as deputy ministers.
According to Israel Hayom, Prime Minister Netanyahu has balked at the demands of the two haredi factions, telling his inner circle that the terms offered by the two parties were excessive.
The two parties have also, according to Kikar Hashabbat, demanded a deputy minister for Shas and control of a number of powerful Knesset committees, including the finance committee (currently held by UTJ), and the constitution and law committee (currently held by the Jewish Home).
