1. DOCTORS FIGHTING TO SAVE THE LIFE OF BABY BORN AFTER OFRA ATTACK

Several victims of Sunday night's terrorist attack outside of Ofra, north of Jerusalem, remain hospitalized at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, including a 30-year-old woman critically wounded in the attack, as well as her new-born son.
Doctors at Shaare Zedek delivered the child, who was in the 30th week of pregnancy, via an emergency caesarian section, after the mother was evacuated to the hospital in critical condition.
The woman had suffered multiple gunshot wounds in Sunday night's attack. Her husband was also wounded in the drive-by shooting.
On Monday, Dr. Alon Schwartz, a senior surgeon at Shaare Zedek's trauma unit, said that the mother's condition had stabilized, while her new-born son's condition had deteriorated, raising concerns about possible neurological damage.
"The pregnant mother who gave birth in an emergency situation, and the child she gave birth to, are being treated here at the hospital. The mother is in the intensive care ward, and her condition has stabilized following surgery she underwent overnight, and basically, we're satisfied with the results," said Dr. Schwartz.
"There already is no active bleeding. We're continuing to provide supportive care, and over the course of the next few days, we will try to take her off the respirator and the medications she's receiving."
"She has a long way to go, and wounds like these are very complicated and we have a lot of challenges ahead of us, but we will do everything to get through the processes in the proper manner and to get her off of the treatment she's currently receiving."
Regarding the infant's condition, Dr. Schwartz seemed less optimistic, saying that the hospital staff was "fighting for his life".
"His condition deteriorated overnight, and he is being treated with medication to sustain his blood pressure and is [on] assisted breathing. We're concerned about possible neurological damage. He has undergone imaging tests, and we're fighting for his life."
A total of six people were wounded Sunday night, when terrorists opened fire from a vehicle as it passed by the bus stop on Route 60, next to the Israeli town of Ofra, north of Jerusalem.
The terrorists fled the scene immediately after the attack, and Israeli security personnel are currently searching for the perpetrators.

2. ISRAEL CALLS ON GERMANY TO END FUNDING OF JEWISH MUSEUM

Israel is pressuring Germany to end funding for dozens of political, cultural and religious organizations that it accuses of anti-Israel agitation both abroad and at home – including the Jewish Museum Berlin – according to an unofficial letter obtained by a German left-wing daily newspaper.
The Tageszeitung, or Taz, obtained a copy of the unsigned seven-page letter sent to the office of Chancellor Angela Merkel and to the Federal Development Ministry, urging Germany to "review its funding guidelines." The letter's origin is not named, but sources told the Taz that it bore the hallmarks of the Jerusalem-based watchdog group NGO Monitor, a non-governmental organization.
The letter reportedly accuses Germany of going out of its way to support groups that are engaged in anti-Israel activity and that try to intervene in Israel's internal affairs. As one of many examples, the letter names the left-wing +972 magazine of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, a think-tank associated with the Green Party, saying its authors "regularly accuse Israel of apartheid."
The letter reportedly also accuses the Jewish Museum Berlin of stressing the "Muslim-Palestinian view" in a current exhibit about the city of Jerusalem, and comments on the museum's "regularly occurring events and discussions with prominent supporters of the BDS [anti-Israel boycott] movement." Germany's international film festival, Berlinale, is confronted with the same charge.
The letter names foundations, church-based groups and partner organizations in both Israel and the Palestinian Authority as being involved in anti-Israel activities, and criticizes German funding for films by groups that support BDS.
It urges Germany to "tie its further financial support to the complete halt of such activities."
A German government spokesperson told the Taz that there is an ongoing conversation between the two countries about Germany's support for
NGOs and that the Israeli government has provided information as well. The spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny that the letter in question came from official Israeli contacts.
Meanwhile, some groups have responded defensively to the allegations. A Böll Foundation spokesperson told the Taz that the group had seen an
increase in pressure from Israel on NGOs – both within Israel and in the Palestinian territories – seen as critical of the government.
3. ARAB STATE OKAYS ISRAELI FLIGHTS

An Arab Gulf state will allow Israeli civilian flights to enter its airspace, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Monday, cutting the travel time from Israel to India.
Speaking at an Israeli Foreign Ministry conference on Monday, Netanyahu revealed that Israeli passenger jets will now be permitted to fly over the Gulf Arab state of Oman, on the southeastern end of the Arabian Peninsula.
According to Netanyahu, the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al Said, had given permission to Israel's national airline, El Al, to enter his country's airspace.
"The Sultan of Oman, Qaboos, has permitted El Al flights over Oman," said Netanyahu.
Netanyahu said that the decision to permit El Al flights was part of a broader change in Israel's position globally.
"Our diplomatic map has changed dramatically, following diplomatic efforts by Israel."
The announcement comes following Netanyahu's meeting with the Sultan during a trip to the Arab state in October. The visit was the first of its kind to the Gulf state by an Israeli Prime Minister since Yitzhak Rabin's 1996 trip to Oman.
Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia also permitted flights to and from Israel to enter its airspace, green lighting plans by Air India to create a shortened route between Tel Aviv and New Delhi.
4. OCASIO-CORTEZ CLAIMS JEWISH ANCESTRY

Democratic congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has claimed that she is descended from Sephardic Jews who were forcibly converted to Catholicism.
Ocasio-Cortez, who was elected last month to the US House of Representatives for New York State's 14th congressional district, told supporters at a Hannukah party organized by the left-wing Jews for Racial and Economic Justice that she has Jewish heritage.
"A very, very long time ago – generations and generations ago – my family consisted of Sephardic Jews," Ocasio-Cortez said.
"The story goes, during the Spanish Inquisition, so many people were forced to convert on the exterior to Catholicism, but on the interior continued to practice their faith and continued to be who they were, even though they were pressured to not be that on the outside world."
Her family later fled to Puerto Rico to escape persecution, Ocasio-Cortez said.
Following the expulsion of non-Christians from Spain in 1492, thousands of Sephardic Jews were forced to convert to Catholicism. Many continued to practice Judaism in secret even after ostensibly converting to Catholicism.
Many of these secret Jews, dubbed the "Anusim" ('Coerced Ones'), emigrated to the Western Hemisphere, settling in colonies across what would become Latin America.
According to Reconectar, an NGO which helps descendants of Anusim reconnect with their Jewish heritage, there are at least 14 to 15 million self-identified 'Bnei Anusim' (descendants of Anusim), with as many as 100 million descendants worldwide of Iberian Jews who were forced to convert to Catholicism.
"Given the birthrate over the years, studies have estimated the number of descendants of these Jews at anywhere from 100 million to 150 million and even some who claim there are as many as 200 million around the world descended from Spanish and Portuguese Jews," Reconectar President Ashley Perry told Arutz Sheva.
According to the Beit Hatfutsot (Diaspora Museum) in Tel Aviv, Cortez, Ocasio-Cortez's mother's maiden name, was a Jewish family name.
Last month, Ocasio-Cortez drew criticism after she compared Jewish Holocaust refugees to members of the so-called 'migrant caravan' from Central America seeking to enter the United States.
"Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isn't a crime," tweeted Ocasio-Cortez.
"It wasn't for Jewish families fleeing Germany. It wasn't for targeted families fleeing Rwanda.
It wasn't for communities fleeing war-torn Syria. And it isn't for those fleeing violence in Central America."
5. US CASTIGATES 'VILE ACT OF PALESTINIAN TERRORISM'

The American Ambassador to Israel David Friedman condemned the shooting attack by Palestinian Arab terrorists on Israeli civilians outside of the town of Ofra Sunday night, calling the drive-by shooting "vile".
"Another vile act of Palestinian terrorism last night included the shooting of a pregnant woman," Friedman tweeted Monday morning.
Friedman also condemned Hamas for celebrating the attack, and slammed the United Nations over its failure to back a US-led effort to condemn the Gaza-based terror group in the General Assembly.
"Hamas calls the shooters "heroic" — yes, the same Hamas that the UN could not resolve to condemn last week. The #US stands with Israel against terrorists even if others won't."
Six people, including a pregnant 30-year-old woman, were wounded Sunday night when terrorists opened fire from a car as it passed by a bus stop outside of Ofra, north of Jerusalem.
The wounded woman was critically wounded, while her husband was lightly wounded.
Hospital officials at Shaare Zedek Medical Center delivered the victim's baby via an emergency caesarian section late Sunday night.
Hamas hailed the attack Sunday night, calling it a 'blessed shooting'.
"We appreciate the blessed shooting that proves that the resistance is present in the occupied West Bank despite the ongoing attempts to destroy it," Hamas said.
Hamas later called the terror attack a "heroic shooting", claiming that the targets were "Israeli occupation soldiers", rather than Israeli civilians.
"The West Bank is taking the initiative today to resist the occupation, and to respond to its ongoing aggressions against our people, where the heroic shooting of a group of Israeli occupation soldiers near the settlement of 'Ofra' in Ramallah, is an affirmation of the legitimate right of our people to resist the occupation."
White House special envoy Jason Greenblatt also mentioned the UN General Assembly's failure to condemn Hamas, tweeting Monday morning that the UN had "defended" Hamas' support for terror.
"UN this is what you defended last week when you failed to condemn Hamas. Hamas praises yet another terror attack. You had the ability to help fight against terror. Is this what the UN wants its legacy to be?"
6. CONDITION OF BABY BORN FOLLOWING SHOOTING ATTACK WORSENS

The baby delivered after his mother was wounded in a shooting attack north of Jerusalem has taken a turn for the worse, doctors reported Monday morning.
Arab terrorists opened fire on a group of Israeli civilians waiting at a bus stop next to the town of Ofra in Samaria, wounding six.
A 30-year-old pregnant woman was critically wounded in the attack. The woman's husband was also wounded in the attack.
After the woman was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, doctors there performed an emergency caesarian section in an attempt to save the life of the unborn child.
The baby, in the 30th week of pregnancy, was successfully delivered.
On Monday, however, Shaare Zedek's Dr. Yonatan Halevy announced that the child's condition had deteriorated, and that the baby is currently in critical condition.
The mother's condition has stabilized, though hospital officials say she remains in serious condition. Her husband's condition has also improved.
White House special envoy Jason Greenblatt condemned the attack Sunday night, calling it "disgusting", and called on Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas to issue a condemnation.
"Absolutely Disgusting – Terrorists attack a group of Israelis celebrating Hanukkah. My prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families. President Abbas, will you condemn the act this time??"

7. IDF LOCATES ANOTHER TUNNEL ON LEBANON BORDER

The IDF has located another Hezbollah terror tunnel on the Lebanese border.
The tunnel passes from Lebanese territory into Israel and was active in recent days.
The IDF said that the tunnel was never a threat to Israel.
The tunnel is located in the eastern sector of the Lebanese front.
The IDF Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis, said that the IDF's Yahalom Unit is inspecting the tunnel's entire length and all of its components.
The IDF added that despite difficult weather conditions, its forces are continuing their operation to locate all Hezbollah tunnels.

8. NETANYAHU WINS SUPPORT FOR BILL AIMED AT ENSURING HIM A 5TH TERM

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu scored an important political victory Sunday, winning coalition support for a bill aimed at preventing Israel's president from denying him a fifth term as premier.
On Sunday, the government's Ministerial Committee for Legislation endorsed a bill, dubbed the "Sa'ar Law", which would require the president to select the prime minister from party leaders, and prohibit the president from choosing other Knesset Members.
Netanyahu, who will become Israel's longest serving premier next July if he remains in office, is expected to run for a fifth term as prime minister next year, despite police recommendations that he be indicted on corruption charges in three separate cases.
In February, police announced that they would recommend charges be filed against Netanyahu in both the Case 1000 and Case 2000 investigations, involving allegations of the receipt of gifts from wealthy businessmen and charges of collusion with a newspaper publisher.
Last week, investigators said they believed sufficient evidence had been collected to also indict the Prime Minister in connection with the "Case 4000" (the "Bezeq-Walla affair"), which revolves around claims Netanyahu back changes to telecommunication regulation favoring the Bezeq corporation, in exchange for favorable coverage from the Walla! media outlet. Both companies are owned primarily by businessman Shaul Elovitch.
While Netanyahu has pushed back against the allegations, some senior Likud officials fear that President Reuven Rivlin could move to deny Netanyahu the premiership after next year's election – even if the Likud emerges as the largest faction and the only party with a viable path to a majority coalition.
Under current Israeli law, the Israeli president nominates whichever MK he believes will be most able to form a stable ruling coalition. While the president has traditionally chosen party leaders, Rivlin has the discretion to choose other MKs, allowing him to circumvent Netanyahu.
To prevent such a scenario from occurring, Netanyahu and his allies have drafted the "Sa'ar Law", named after former Likud minister Gideon Sa'ar – a popular former lawmaker who has signaled his intention to run with the Likud again in 2019, and could be tapped by Rivlin to serve as Prime Minister in Netanyahu's place.
The bill would, if passed, require the president to choose from party leaders when selecting a candidate for the premiership.
Israel's next general election is scheduled for November 2019, but could be held earlier if the current coalition collapses.
While the Likud-led government enjoyed a relatively wide majority, with 66 lawmakers in the 120-member Knesset, last month, former Defense Minister Avidgor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) bolted the government, leaving the coalition with a razor-thin 61-seat majority.
With the possibility of new elections in the next few months, Netanyahu and his allies have pushed for passage of the "Sa'ar Law", despite statements by President Rivlin indicating that he would choose the next premier based on the recommendations of party leaders.

Former IDF intelligence head and Major General (ret.) Amos Yadlin said that Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed sensitive information when he said that Hezbollah only has a few dozen prevision rockets.
Speaking at a Mossad graduation ceremony on Thursday, Netanyahu had said that Hezbollah "was supposed to be equipped with thousands of missiles today, but at this moment they have a few dozen. The reason they have a few dozens is among other things those that are sitting in this room," added Netanyahu, referring to the Mossad agents present.
Yadlin said that Netanyahu's revelation was improper and could potentially tip off Hezbollah to Israel's intelligence gathering capabilities.
"We heard yesterday the prime minister and the defense minister talking about relatively accurate numbers of missiles," Yadlin told 103FM. "It's a big mistake because it helps Hezbollah to understand where we know what we know and if we have today. "
"A certain advantage that we have over Hezbollah - an advantage that did not exist in 2006 - is very good intelligence sources, and it is forbidden to help Hezbollah discover them."
"The prime minister has to talk about these things in closed forums and not in open statements to the public," Yadlin added.
The retired Major General also said that Hezbollah's terror tunnels are not its main offensive weapon against Israel.
"Operation Northern Shield is important, but it should not be inflated beyond what it is. The tunnels are not Hezbollah's 'ace. Hezbollah's 'ace' is its firepower," said Yadlin.
"It is very good that we have found the tunnels and acted against them, but when there are operations there is also some damage because the enemy understands that he was penetrated. Now we have to make every effort to prevent them from understanding where they were penetrated from."

3. COMMANDOS WERE IN GAZA FOR TWO MONTHS BEFORE BOTCHED RAID

An Israeli special operations force caught last month in a firefight with Hamas had been in Gaza for about two months before their cover was blown.
The team, which entered both through the Erez border crossing and through a breach in the security fence, had rented an apartment and were posing as medical aid workers, Hadashot TV news reported Thursday, citing Palestinian media reports.
They were discovered at a Hamas checkpoint in Khan Younis, and their stories were not consistent during interrogation, according to the report. Their discovery led to a firefight in which one Israeli soldier was killed and a second injured.
In the wake of the incident, terror groups in Gaza fired hundreds of rockets on southern Israel over two days, killing one person and damaging buildings.
The dead soldier was not publicly identified, except by his first initial, due to the sensitivity of the operation. The soldiers from the special forces unit were in Gaza to gather intelligence, according to reports, though details of the mission have been blocked by the military censor.
Earlier this week the British newspaper The Independent reported, citing an unnamed Hamas official, that the Israeli forces were in Gaza to replace listening and surveillance devices that had been there for some time.
4. BENNETT SLAMS LEFTIST MK: 'MICHAELI LIED'

Jewish Home leader and Education Minister Naftali Bennett slammed Zionist Union MK Merav Michaeli for her assault on Religious Zionist national service volunteers.
Earlier this week, Michaeli had released a video accusing Religious Zionist national service volunteers of "brainwashing" secular children in an attempt to make them follow an observant lifestyle.
Writing in the Religious Zionist weekly Matzav Haruach, Bennett said that Michaeli "adopted a pattern in which everything is permitted" in her battle against the Jewish tradition.
"Michaeli ignored the most basic details and wrote the facts to fit the distorted reality she wanted to create," wrote Bennett.
"It seems that in the war against the "mock Religionzatoin', Michaeli and others have adopted a pattern in which everything is permitted - to lash out, to distort, to generalize an entire public," added Bennett.
The education minister alleged that Michaeli's attack on Religious Zionist volunteers in secular public schools was just another step in a campaign that seeks to stamp out Israel's Jewish character.
"It is important to understand that Michaeli is not alone," said Bennett. "This video is only a small part of the attacks that are being intensified by organizations that wish to erase all Jewish symbols from the State of Israel, the army, education, and public sphere."
"We must make it clear to everyone that it is forbidden to spread lies about us, that it is forbidden to harm the daughters of the National Service, we must not engineer data, and religious Zionism will not shut up when they close the Mechina program."
The issue is part of a larger debate regarding the role of religion in Israel's public sphere. Over the past year, numerous stories have surfaced in the media concerning alleged cases of increasing religious coercion in Israel. Led by the radical Secular Forum, the stories have targeted courses in Jewish history and tradition in the school system, the influence of the IDF's military rabbinate, and popular Lag Baomer events given by Chabad at malls all across Israel.
5. BENNETT SAYS ISRAEL WILL DESTROY LEBANON IF WAR BREAKS OUT

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, a member of the political-security cabinet, said on Friday that Lebanon would pay a heavy price if war broke out between Israel and the Hezbollah militia.
Bennett's remarks came as the IDF started an operation this past week to destroy Hezbollah's terror tunnels on the northern border.
Bennett warned that Israel would destroy Lebanon should war break out between Hezbollah and the Jewish State."Hezbollah equals Lebanon. We will no longer agree to see Hezbollah as an independent and separate organization from the state of Lebanon, as we did in the Second Lebanon War," Bennett tweeted.
"If heaven forbid, rockets are fired from Lebanon at Israel, it would be seen as an act of war by the sovereign state of Lebanon on the State of Israel, with all that this implies. Anyone who pretends to be a "defender of Lebanon" will become its destroyer.
During the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Israel did not target Lebanon directly, reserving the brunt of its military force on Hezbollah directly.
On Monday, Israel embarked on an operation to destroy Hezbollah-dug tunnels snaking under its border with Lebanon.IDF forces have already unearthed one terror tunnel on Tuesday morning since the campaign began.
The tunnel, apparently built by Hezbollah terrorists, originates in the southern portion of the Lebanese town of Kafr Kela. The tunnel crosses over into Israeli territory, however, and is believed to have been dug for use in an upcoming terror attack on Israeli targets.
On Thursday evening, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Hezbollah only has dozens of precision missiles thanks to Israel's preventive actions.
"Hezbollah has two tools. One is tunnels and were stopping it. The second tool are the rockets, statistical weapons, but they want precise weapons. This changes the balance of power radically," said the prime minister at a Mossad graduation ceremony.
"According to Hezbollah's plan, they were supposed to be equipped with thousands of missiles today, but at this moment they have a few dozen. The reason they have a few dozens is among other things those that are sitting in this room," added Netanyahu, referring to the Mossad agents present.
The Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah has been building factories in the heart of Beirut to convert missiles into highly-accurate precision weapons capable of striking sensitive Israeli sites. Upon deciding to convert its massive 150,000-strong rocket arsenal to missiles with pinpoint accuracy, Hezbollah chose to transfer its sites to the heart of Beirut in order to deter Israeli airstrikes.
Israel has repeatedly reiterated that it will not allow Hezbollah to obtain highly accurate missiles that would threaten sensitive Israelis sites and has been escalating its threats vis a vis Lebanon.
6. HALEY AT THE UN: IS THE HATRED OF ISRAEL SO STRONG?

The United Nations General Assembly voted on Thursday against a resolution to condemn the Hamas terrorist organization over its rocket attacks on Israel, its digging of terror tunnels, and launching of incendiary balloons at Israeli communities in the Gaza envelope.
Before the vote, the UN voted by a majority of 75 to 72, with 24 abstentions, for a two-thirds majority for the adoption of the US resolution condemning Hamas.
As such, even though the resolution received a majority of 87 votes in favor, it was not approved.
57 countries voted against the resolution, and 33 countries abstained.
The resolution was one of the final moves being promoted by US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley in the United Nations before she leaves office.
Speaking before the vote, Haley said that "the question before us now is whether the UN considers terrorism is acceptable if it's directed at Israel."
"Is the hatred of Israel so strong that you will defend a terrorist organization, one that is harming the Palestinian people? Isn't it time to let that go? For the sake of peace and the sake of this institution I respectfully urge my colleagues to this resolution," she added.
Before the vote, Saudi Arabia said it planned to vote against the resolution condemning Hamas, explaining that issue is the "Israeli occupation". Iran's envoy also spoke before the vote, claiming Iran would vote against the resolution because "Hamas is a legitimate resistance movement of the Palestinian people".
Hamas had been trying to convince the UN to vote down the measure. Last week, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh wrote directly to UN General Assembly president Maria Fernanda Spinosa, in response to the US and Israel's efforts against Hamas in the UN.
This week, Hamas received surprising support from its longtime rival Fatah, which is headed by Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Abbas Zaki, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, condemned the American resolution and described it as a "clear racist decision".
On Monday, US special envoy Jason Greenblatt slammed the PA for defending Hamas, calling its actions "beyond absurd".
7. ELITE COMMANDO UNIT WAS INTERROGATED BY HAMAS FOR 40 MINUTES

The commandos that were involved in last month's botched special forces mission in Gaza were interrogated for 40 minutes by Hamas before the gunfight erupted, Channel 2 reported.
The soldiers were stopped while driving in Gaza by Hamas terrorists, who decided to detain them after finding inconsistencies in their story. The undercover operatives them opened fire in order not to be taken into custody and fled while being pursued by several patrol vehicles manned by Hamas terrorists.
The IDF dispatched several unmanned aircraft which opened fire on the Hamas terrorists pursuing the Israeli agents.
During the pursuit, one of the Israeli vehicles struck a wall, forcing the team members to continue on foot. An IDF helicopter later managed to land inside the Gaza Strip and evacuate the team.
The report also said that the troops had entered Gaza two months earlier and were installing highly advanced surveillance gear inside Gaza, including attempts to tap Hamas' communications network.
A 41-year-old Israeli lieutenant colonel, identified solely by the initial "M", was killed in a pitched battle with Hamas terrorists deep inside the Gaza Strip, near the city of Khan Yunis.
Hamas has been intensively investigating last week's events and has called on the public to supply any information that might help them expose more details about the highly classified unit. Hamas says that it managed to salvage classified equipment the commandos had been carrying in their car despite the vehicle having been bombed by the IDF.
Earlier this week, Hamas claimed that the classified unit was living in Gaza in a safe house under the guise of humanitarian volunteers. The team's equipment was smuggled into the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave through the Kerem Shalom crossing, where it was picked up by an agent working for Israel inside the Strip. The agent is also said to have secured two cars for the Israeli special forces team
Transcripts of Hamas' radio chatter during the operation that were released by Hadashot last month showed that the terror group originally thought it was battling drug smugglers during the shootout with the commandos. Only after IDF drones started strafing Hamas terrorists did the organization realize it was a commando op gone awry.
"Four fighter jets are above me. There was a strike near us. The jets are coming from the north. They attacked one of the (Hamas) cars. Hide. Close in on the Jews. Don't let them leave Gaza," one Hamas commander yelled into the radio during the firefight

Prime Minister Netanyahu met this morning, Thursday, with foreign ambassadors in the northern sector, near the IDF forces operating to expose and neutralize terror tunnels.
The ambassadors of the European Union, Britain, France, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Poland, Russia, Ethiopia, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Australia and Canada took part in the meeting.
Netanyahu updated the ambassadors on the details of Operation Northern Shield and Hezbollah's intentions to use tunnels against Israel. He stressed that Hezbollah tunnels are one expression of Iranian aggression in the region.
The prime minister asked the ambassadors to condemn the violation of Israeli sovereignty and to join the demand for increased sanctions on Hezbollah.
The ambassadors were briefed by Northern Command Chief Yoel Strik and the head of the Planning Directorate, Amir Abulafia, and toured the tunnel area exposed by IDF forces.
"We deny our enemies the weapons of the tunnels systematically and decisively, we are doing this to Hamas, to Hezbollah as well, and we will do what we need to. Whoever attacks us - his blood is on his own head. Hezbollah knows this and Hamas knows this," Netanyahu said at the end of the meeting.
Netanyahu said he told the ambassadors that they should "condemn this aggression by Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas unequivocally, and of course also intensify the sanctions against these elements. This activity is at its beginning, but at its end this weapon, in which Hezbollah invested so much, will no longer exist and will not be effective."
"Israel's expectation is unequivocal condemnation of Hezbollah, additional sanctions on Hezbollah, condemnation and demand from the Lebanese government to stop granting its allowance to use its territory for these attacks on Israel. All this will be raised at the upcoming UN Security Council meeting at Israel's demand. This is an important diplomatic step that complements our engineering efforts to deprive Hezbollah and Iran of the tunnel weapons."
A diplomatic source added that the purpose of the ambassadors' tour was for Israel "to receive support and legitimacy for additional operations if necessary."

Former IDF intelligence head and Major General (ret.) Amos Yadlin said that Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed sensitive information when he said that Hezbollah only has a few dozen prevision rockets.
Speaking at a Mossad graduation ceremony on Thursday, Netanyahu had said that Hezbollah "was supposed to be equipped with thousands of missiles today, but at this moment they have a few dozen. The reason they have a few dozens is among other things those that are sitting in this room," added Netanyahu, referring to the Mossad agents present.
Yadlin said that Netanyahu's revelation was improper and could potentially tip off Hezbollah to Israel's intelligence gathering capabilities.
"We heard yesterday the prime minister and the defense minister talking about relatively accurate numbers of missiles," Yadlin told 103FM. "It's a big mistake because it helps Hezbollah to understand where we know what we know and if we have today. "
"A certain advantage that we have over Hezbollah - an advantage that did not exist in 2006 - is very good intelligence sources, and it is forbidden to help Hezbollah discover them."
"The prime minister has to talk about these things in closed forums and not in open statements to the public," Yadlin added.
The retired Major General also said that Hezbollah's terror tunnels are not its main offensive weapon against Israel.
"Operation Northern Shield is important, but it should not be inflated beyond what it is. The tunnels are not Hezbollah's 'ace. Hezbollah's 'ace' is its firepower," said Yadlin.
"It is very good that we have found the tunnels and acted against them, but when there are operations there is also some damage because the enemy understands that he was penetrated. Now we have to make every effort to prevent them from understanding where they were penetrated from."

3. COMMANDOS WERE IN GAZA FOR TWO MONTHS BEFORE BOTCHED RAID

An Israeli special operations force caught last month in a firefight with Hamas had been in Gaza for about two months before their cover was blown.
The team, which entered both through the Erez border crossing and through a breach in the security fence, had rented an apartment and were posing as medical aid workers, Hadashot TV news reported Thursday, citing Palestinian media reports.
They were discovered at a Hamas checkpoint in Khan Younis, and their stories were not consistent during interrogation, according to the report. Their discovery led to a firefight in which one Israeli soldier was killed and a second injured.
In the wake of the incident, terror groups in Gaza fired hundreds of rockets on southern Israel over two days, killing one person and damaging buildings.
The dead soldier was not publicly identified, except by his first initial, due to the sensitivity of the operation. The soldiers from the special forces unit were in Gaza to gather intelligence, according to reports, though details of the mission have been blocked by the military censor.
Earlier this week the British newspaper The Independent reported, citing an unnamed Hamas official, that the Israeli forces were in Gaza to replace listening and surveillance devices that had been there for some time.
4. BENNETT SLAMS LEFTIST MK: 'MICHAELI LIED'

Jewish Home leader and Education Minister Naftali Bennett slammed Zionist Union MK Merav Michaeli for her assault on Religious Zionist national service volunteers.
Earlier this week, Michaeli had released a video accusing Religious Zionist national service volunteers of "brainwashing" secular children in an attempt to make them follow an observant lifestyle.
Writing in the Religious Zionist weekly Matzav Haruach, Bennett said that Michaeli "adopted a pattern in which everything is permitted" in her battle against the Jewish tradition.
"Michaeli ignored the most basic details and wrote the facts to fit the distorted reality she wanted to create," wrote Bennett.
"It seems that in the war against the "mock Religionzatoin', Michaeli and others have adopted a pattern in which everything is permitted - to lash out, to distort, to generalize an entire public," added Bennett.
The education minister alleged that Michaeli's attack on Religious Zionist volunteers in secular public schools was just another step in a campaign that seeks to stamp out Israel's Jewish character.
"It is important to understand that Michaeli is not alone," said Bennett. "This video is only a small part of the attacks that are being intensified by organizations that wish to erase all Jewish symbols from the State of Israel, the army, education, and public sphere."
"We must make it clear to everyone that it is forbidden to spread lies about us, that it is forbidden to harm the daughters of the National Service, we must not engineer data, and religious Zionism will not shut up when they close the Mechina program."
The issue is part of a larger debate regarding the role of religion in Israel's public sphere. Over the past year, numerous stories have surfaced in the media concerning alleged cases of increasing religious coercion in Israel. Led by the radical Secular Forum, the stories have targeted courses in Jewish history and tradition in the school system, the influence of the IDF's military rabbinate, and popular Lag Baomer events given by Chabad at malls all across Israel.
5. BENNETT SAYS ISRAEL WILL DESTROY LEBANON IF WAR BREAKS OUT

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, a member of the political-security cabinet, said on Friday that Lebanon would pay a heavy price if war broke out between Israel and the Hezbollah militia.
Bennett's remarks came as the IDF started an operation this past week to destroy Hezbollah's terror tunnels on the northern border.
Bennett warned that Israel would destroy Lebanon should war break out between Hezbollah and the Jewish State."Hezbollah equals Lebanon. We will no longer agree to see Hezbollah as an independent and separate organization from the state of Lebanon, as we did in the Second Lebanon War," Bennett tweeted.
"If heaven forbid, rockets are fired from Lebanon at Israel, it would be seen as an act of war by the sovereign state of Lebanon on the State of Israel, with all that this implies. Anyone who pretends to be a "defender of Lebanon" will become its destroyer.
During the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Israel did not target Lebanon directly, reserving the brunt of its military force on Hezbollah directly.
On Monday, Israel embarked on an operation to destroy Hezbollah-dug tunnels snaking under its border with Lebanon.IDF forces have already unearthed one terror tunnel on Tuesday morning since the campaign began.
The tunnel, apparently built by Hezbollah terrorists, originates in the southern portion of the Lebanese town of Kafr Kela. The tunnel crosses over into Israeli territory, however, and is believed to have been dug for use in an upcoming terror attack on Israeli targets.
On Thursday evening, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Hezbollah only has dozens of precision missiles thanks to Israel's preventive actions.
"Hezbollah has two tools. One is tunnels and were stopping it. The second tool are the rockets, statistical weapons, but they want precise weapons. This changes the balance of power radically," said the prime minister at a Mossad graduation ceremony.
"According to Hezbollah's plan, they were supposed to be equipped with thousands of missiles today, but at this moment they have a few dozen. The reason they have a few dozens is among other things those that are sitting in this room," added Netanyahu, referring to the Mossad agents present.
The Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah has been building factories in the heart of Beirut to convert missiles into highly-accurate precision weapons capable of striking sensitive Israeli sites. Upon deciding to convert its massive 150,000-strong rocket arsenal to missiles with pinpoint accuracy, Hezbollah chose to transfer its sites to the heart of Beirut in order to deter Israeli airstrikes.
Israel has repeatedly reiterated that it will not allow Hezbollah to obtain highly accurate missiles that would threaten sensitive Israelis sites and has been escalating its threats vis a vis Lebanon.

The United Nations General Assembly voted on Thursday against a resolution to condemn the Hamas terrorist organization over its rocket attacks on Israel, its digging of terror tunnels, and launching of incendiary balloons at Israeli communities in the Gaza envelope.
Before the vote, the UN voted by a majority of 75 to 72, with 24 abstentions, for a two-thirds majority for the adoption of the US resolution condemning Hamas.
As such, even though the resolution received a majority of 87 votes in favor, it was not approved.

The High Court of Justice on Thursday rejected the petition filed by relatives of the terrorist who carried out the deadly terror attack in the Barkan Industrial Zone and approved the demolition order against the house of the terrorist.
The demolition applies only to the basement of the home.
In October, Ashraf Walid Suleiman Na'alowa murdered two people in a shooting attack at the Barkan Industrial Zone, where he worked.
Na'alowa remains at large. His parents and brother have been arrested.
2. FATAH: IF HAMAS IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION, SO ARE WE

Today the UN General Assembly will be voting on a US-proposed resolution to condemn Hamas for firing rockets into Israel and inciting violence. The resolution demands that Hamas and other terrorist groups such as Islamic Jihad cease their "militant" activities, including the use of airborne incendiaries.
Despite the rift between Hamas and Abbas' Fatah, Fatah has come to the defense of Hamas at the UN.
The resolution prompted one Fatah official to declare that if Hamas is considered a terrorist organization, then the entire Palestinian Arab people is "involved in terrorism," Palestinian Media Watch reported. Rather, he claimed, all the Palestinian factions are "national liberation movements":
Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki told Palestine Today: "If Hamas, which is involved in resistance, is considered a terrorist movement, this means that all groups of the Palestinian people are involved in terrorism. This contradicts reality, as Hamas and the rest of the Palestinian factions are national liberation movements that are involved in resisting an Israeli occupation that is implementing terrorism against the members of our people... Hamas is part of us and we are part of it if a resolution is passed against it that defines its resistance as a crime. This is because Hamas - regardless of the internal and political differences of opinion - constitutes a state of resistance, whether we want it or not. It has a broad Palestinian presence, and we cannot abandon it to fight alone on the battlefield."
Similarly reacting to the proposed UN resolution, Fatah Central Committee member Muhammad Shtayyeh denied all Palestinian Arab terrorism. He stated that Abbas' Fatah Movement will not accept that "any Palestinian organization" be declared a terrorist organization.
"Under no circumstances will we agree to any Palestinian organization being defined as a terrorist organization. We will not agree! Because today it is Hamas, tomorrow [Islamic] Jihad, two days from now Fatah... under no circumstances will we agree to Hamas being condemned," Shtayyeh wrote on the official Fatah Facebook page.
Likewise, Osama Al-Qawasmi, official Fatah Movement Spokesperson and Fatah Revolutionary Council member announced that Fatah "opposes the denunciation of any Palestinian as a terrorist":
"Despite all of the differences of opinion with Hamas, and despite everything that it has done to harm the legal Palestinian government we know the order of priorities of the national activity well. We firmly oppose the American-Israeli attempts to denounce Hamas as terrorist at the UN, and we will fight to thwart the proposal," Al-Qawasmi told the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida.

Israel's Chief Ashkenazic Rabbi blamed liberal Religious Zionist organizations for the Israeli public's eroding faith in the Rabbinate.
Writing in the Rabbinate's in-house magazine, Rabbi David Lau said that the organization he heads is under relentless attack from entities that are determined to "turn Israel into a state of all its citizens, focusing on a number of issues, one against the Zionist identity of the state and the other against its Jewish identity".
Lau added that "the first step is to change the status quo on religion that has been accepted until now, and especially to weaken the position of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, with the goal of separating religion from the state, turning the State of Israel into a state without any Jewish character".
Lau went on to blame assorted Religious Zionist groups for joining in the campaign "to convince the Israeli public that they have no need for the Rabbinate".
"Unfortunately, even bodies belonging to the liberal Religious Zionist stream are cooperating with the idea to weaken the Chief Rabbinate, to establish a communal rabbinate in which each community can choose a suitable rabbi, to establish a separate conversion system and independent courts," wrote the chief rabbi.
"Some of them even present their teachings openly, and claim to be the followers of Rabbi Kook. This also permeates the religious public," Lau continued. "Those who fight except for the position of the Chief Rabbinate use all means. And there is no lack of financial resources in their hands to fight and harm public opinion and to distance them from the Chief Rabbinate."
"The Chief Rabbinate is forced to fight against this trend, and at the Council's table, considerable issues were discussed in order to repel the aforementioned trend."
The Religious Zionist public has long been split regarding its view of the Chief Rabbinate. While some members of the community say that the entity needs to be strengthened, the more liberal Religious Zionist streams have long sought to create alternatives.
The Tzohar Rabbinical Organization, which provides religious services as an alternative to the state-run Rabbinate, launched of a new, independent kashrut supervision authority. The initiative came following Tzohar's popular marriage registration service, which sought to force the Rabbinate to become more user-friendly.
4. HUNDREDS OF WOMEN CALL ON ARYEH DERI TO STOP WOMEN OF THE WALL

Hundreds of haredi and religious women signed a petition calling on Interior Minister Aryeh Deri to put an end to the Women of the Wall's Rosh Chodesh prayers.
For years, the Women of the Wall have demanded they be allowed to hold alternative, non-traditional services. Five years ago, Israel built an area allotted for mixed-gender prayer and for the Reform and Conservative movements to pray as they wish, but the Women of the Wall insist they should be allowed to pray their way in the main plaza.
The monthly Women of the Wall prayers have led to clashes between the feminist group and other worshippers, who object to the non-Orthodox nature of the prayers.
Now, a new petition calls on Deri to stop the Women of the Wall ahead of their scheduled prayers this Sunday. According to the petition, "this extremist group blatantly violates the custom of the place, which all the people of the Wall respect, and provokes quarrels in the holy space."
"While they are in the square, the prayer of the hundreds and thousands of women who come to pray with the help of women is critically disturbed."
"When the women of the provocation dance, sing loudly, clap their hands and protest and riot in the holy place," the petition continued, "It is very difficult to hear the cantor or to concentrate on prayer in the face of the contempt of the holy place."
Noting that Deri's Shas party controls the Rabbinate, which opposes Women of the Wall, the petition asked him to "exercise your authority and act to remove the provocateurs from the Western Wall and allow the masses who pray to pray there with concentration and holiness."
Worshippers have accused Women of the Wall in the past of harassing them and decry the media circus their monthly prayers bring with them.
In June Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit ordered the Women of the Wall to pray only in the special area designated by the police and the Western Wall Heritage Foundation.
The order was given following a petition by the Foundation and the police in response to disturbances which took place on Rosh Chodesh in recent months. If the Women of the Wall disobey the directive, the police have the authority to remove them from the Western Wall, ruled Mandelblit.
5. A-G NORMALIZES BINYAMIN REGION COMMUNITY OF HARESHA

The Justice Ministry's Counseling and Legislation Department has provided a legal opinion, with the agreement of Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, which paves the way for the access road to the community of Haresha in Binyamin to be constructed.
The move means that the community will be legally legitimized immediately and it will be possible to submit a zoning plan for the community using the "cut & cover" solution - paving a road over which concrete will be placed. Earth will be then placed on the concrete, allowing the Palestinian Arabs to continue growing their trees.
The legal opinion enables the permanent expropriation of the land in the future. "Until now, the state has not been able to regulate the construction in the area, in light of the fact that the road leading to Haresha is not regulated, and it passes through privately owned land. The section of the road that passes through private land, and which is at the center of this legal opinion, stands at 121 meters," says the legal opinion which was obtained by Arutz Sheva.
The Attorney General for the Judea and Samaria Area submitted an opinion according to which it is possible to arrange access to the community by digging a tunnel or by constructing an overpass, as long as they do not cause harm, even temporarily, to the reasonable use of the land.
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said, "From the beginning of my current term I have set a goal of normalizing the lives of the residents of Judea and Samaria and normalizing as many communities as possible. We have gone from a discourse of eviction to a discourse of normalization. These actions are in addition to the strengthening of the communities by other means, such as the transfer of authority in matters of Judea and Samaria from the Supreme Court to the Administrative Affairs Court in Jerusalem, as well as the equalization of legislation for Judea and Samaria."
Shaked promised, "I will continue to work for the normalization of additional communities in Judea and Samaria. I thank Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, Deputy Attorney General (Erez) Kaminitz and the Legal Advisor for the Judea and Samaria Area for their important activity on the issue."

Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Binyamin Netanyahu delivered a special statement in the next few minutes together with Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot on the progress of Operation Northern Shield to expose Hezbollah's terrorist tunnels.
Netanyahu stated that the IDF activity on the northern border will continue until all the objectives are achieved.
"This is not a specific action, but an ongoing operation," the prime minister said, noting that Hezbollah had planned to occupy parts of the Galilee through the use of the terror tunnels. "Hezbollah's intention was to infiltrate terrorists into our territory and this is part of a broad campaign they planned to occupy parts of the Galilee. This is a real threat of force and daring that we did not know about. "
In the afternoon, Netanyahu held an assessment of the situation in the Defense Ministry, in which Eizenkot, the head of the NSC, Meir Ben Shabat, and senior IDF and defense establishment officials took part.
Following the assessment of the situation, a discussion was held by the Political-Security Cabinet, in which the ministers were updated on the IDF's activities so far as part of the operation on the northern border.
Earlier, IDF Spokesperson Ronen Manelis said that the army was operating inside Israeli territory to destroy Hezbollah tunnels in Operation Defensive Shield, adding that "they may be destroyed from other places as well." Manelis added that the army was preparing for the operation to take several weeks: "We have to prepare for all the scenarios of neutralizing the tunnels, some of them will not be only in our territory."
7. ELITE COMMANDO UNIT WAS INTERROGATED BY HAMAS FOR 40 MINUTES

The commandos that were involved in last month's botched special forces mission in Gaza were interrogated for 40 minutes by Hamas before the gunfight erupted, Channel 2 reported.
The soldiers were stopped while driving in Gaza by Hamas terrorists, who decided to detain them after finding inconsistencies in their story. The undercover operatives them opened fire in order not to be taken into custody and fled while being pursued by several patrol vehicles manned by Hamas terrorists.
The IDF dispatched several unmanned aircraft which opened fire on the Hamas terrorists pursuing the Israeli agents.
During the pursuit, one of the Israeli vehicles struck a wall, forcing the team members to continue on foot. An IDF helicopter later managed to land inside the Gaza Strip and evacuate the team.
The report also said that the troops had entered Gaza two months earlier and were installing highly advanced surveillance gear inside Gaza, including attempts to tap Hamas' communications network.
A 41-year-old Israeli lieutenant colonel, identified solely by the initial "M", was killed in a pitched battle with Hamas terrorists deep inside the Gaza Strip, near the city of Khan Yunis.
Hamas has been intensively investigating last week's events and has called on the public to supply any information that might help them expose more details about the highly classified unit. Hamas says that it managed to salvage classified equipment the commandos had been carrying in their car despite the vehicle having been bombed by the IDF.
Earlier this week, Hamas claimed that the classified unit was living in Gaza in a safe house under the guise of humanitarian volunteers. The team's equipment was smuggled into the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave through the Kerem Shalom crossing, where it was picked up by an agent working for Israel inside the Strip. The agent is also said to have secured two cars for the Israeli special forces team
Transcripts of Hamas' radio chatter during the operation that were released by Hadashot last month showed that the terror group originally thought it was battling drug smugglers during the shootout with the commandos. Only after IDF drones started strafing Hamas terrorists did the organization realize it was a commando op gone awry.
"Four fighter jets are above me. There was a strike near us. The jets are coming from the north. They attacked one of the (Hamas) cars. Hide. Close in on the Jews. Don't let them leave Gaza," one Hamas commander yelled into the radio during the firefight
8. DOZENS OF CHILDREN RESCUED FROM REHOVOT KINDERGARTEN

The stormy weather in Israel today is causing flooding across the country. In the city of Rehovot, on The 5th of Iyar Street, a compound with three kindergartens was flooded.
Firefighters from the local station rescued about 50 children and a number of kindergarten teachers with two rubber dinghys.

Yavne Street, Hayarkon Street, and Nahal Snir Street were blocked in the industrial area of the city because of flooding on the road. Police are there to direct traffic.
In Tel Aviv large puddles formed on Allenby Street and the streets nearby. The Azrieli junction also became congested due to a traffic light malfunction caused by the rain.
In Rishon Letzion and Bat Yam residents reported flooding in several neighborhoods. Municipal teams in both cases assisted the residents.

The High Court of Justice on Thursday rejected the petition filed by relatives of the terrorist who carried out the deadly terror attack in the Barkan Industrial Zone and approved the demolition order against the house of the terrorist.
The demolition applies only to the basement of the home.
In October, Ashraf Walid Suleiman Na'alowa murdered two people in a shooting attack at the Barkan Industrial Zone, where he worked.
Na'alowa remains at large. His parents and brother have been arrested.
2. FATAH: IF HAMAS IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION, SO ARE WE

Today the UN General Assembly will be voting on a US-proposed resolution to condemn Hamas for firing rockets into Israel and inciting violence. The resolution demands that Hamas and other terrorist groups such as Islamic Jihad cease their "militant" activities, including the use of airborne incendiaries.
Despite the rift between Hamas and Abbas' Fatah, Fatah has come to the defense of Hamas at the UN.
The resolution prompted one Fatah official to declare that if Hamas is considered a terrorist organization, then the entire Palestinian Arab people is "involved in terrorism," Palestinian Media Watch reported. Rather, he claimed, all the Palestinian factions are "national liberation movements":
Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki told Palestine Today: "If Hamas, which is involved in resistance, is considered a terrorist movement, this means that all groups of the Palestinian people are involved in terrorism. This contradicts reality, as Hamas and the rest of the Palestinian factions are national liberation movements that are involved in resisting an Israeli occupation that is implementing terrorism against the members of our people... Hamas is part of us and we are part of it if a resolution is passed against it that defines its resistance as a crime. This is because Hamas - regardless of the internal and political differences of opinion - constitutes a state of resistance, whether we want it or not. It has a broad Palestinian presence, and we cannot abandon it to fight alone on the battlefield."
Similarly reacting to the proposed UN resolution, Fatah Central Committee member Muhammad Shtayyeh denied all Palestinian Arab terrorism. He stated that Abbas' Fatah Movement will not accept that "any Palestinian organization" be declared a terrorist organization.
"Under no circumstances will we agree to any Palestinian organization being defined as a terrorist organization. We will not agree! Because today it is Hamas, tomorrow [Islamic] Jihad, two days from now Fatah... under no circumstances will we agree to Hamas being condemned," Shtayyeh wrote on the official Fatah Facebook page.
Likewise, Osama Al-Qawasmi, official Fatah Movement Spokesperson and Fatah Revolutionary Council member announced that Fatah "opposes the denunciation of any Palestinian as a terrorist":
"Despite all of the differences of opinion with Hamas, and despite everything that it has done to harm the legal Palestinian government we know the order of priorities of the national activity well. We firmly oppose the American-Israeli attempts to denounce Hamas as terrorist at the UN, and we will fight to thwart the proposal," Al-Qawasmi told the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida.

An Orthodox synagogue in South Africa was destroyed in a fire late Tuesday night, synagogue officials reported.
The fire broke out at around 11:00 p.m. local time Tuesday night in the Beit Midrash Morasha synagogue in Sea Point, Cape Town, known by locals as the 'Arthur's Road Shul'.
Local fire officials said 4 fire engines and 22 firefighters were dispatched to contain the fire.
No injuries were reported in the blaze.
"Just before 23:00, Fire and Rescue responded to a synagogue that was alight in Arthur's Road, Sea Point," said City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue services spokesperson Theo Lane.
"Twenty-two firefighters, four fire engines, one aerial appliance and a rescue vehicle responded to the incident. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire at this stage is undetermined."
The congregation's rabbi, Rabbi Sam Thurgood said the damage to the synagogue was "substantial", and called for prayers from the community.
"Dear community, you may have heard the terrible news of the fire in the shul [synagogue] tonight. Everyone is okay and although the damage is substantial whatever is lost can be rebuilt. At this point we need prayers and Mitzvot, but there will be a great deal needed in the days and months ahead. We will update you on the way forward as we have a clearer idea of the path to be charted."
Investigators are probing the cause of the fire, and say that no signs of foul play have been found at this time.
"Our heartfelt prayers are with Rabbi Thurgood and the entire congregation," the South African Jewish Board of Deputies said in a statement in response to the blaze.
"The SAJBD can confirm on behalf of the synagogue that there are no injuries and investigators report no signs of foul play at this stage and await the outcome of a full investigation," said Rael Kaimowitz, chairman of the Cape SAJBD.
Witnesses said Wednesday morning that the synagogue's seven Torah scrolls had been destroyed in the blaze, local radio host Howard Feldman reported via Twitter.

3. TURKEY DEMANDS EXTRADITION OF SAUDI CROWN PRINCE'S ALLIES

Turkey has called on Saudi Arabia to extradite a number of suspects tied to the disappearance and murder of a dissident Saudi journalist.
According to a report by AFP Wednesday morning, Turkish prosecutors have issued arrest warrants for several suspects wanted in connection with the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Khashoggi was last seen on October 2nd as he entered the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Turkish government has accused Saudi Arabia of murdering the dissident journalist and chopping his body into pieces.
After initially denying Khashoggi had been harmed at the consulate, Saudi Arabia has admitted that Khashoggi was killed after entering the facility, though the kingdom has continued to deny that the dissident journalist was executed on the orders of senior Saudi officials.
Turkish prosecutors issued arrest warrants for Saudi nationals wanted in connection with Khashoggi's death, including two senior Saudi officials allied with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
General Ahmed Asiri, the former Deputy foreign intelligence chief, and Saud al-Gahtani, a top aide to the Saudi crown prince, were listed among the suspects wanted by Istanbul's chief prosecutor, two Turkish officials told AFP Wednesday.
Both were dismissed from their positions in October, after Saudi Arabia acknowledged Khashoggi had died in the Istanbul consulate.
"The prosecution's move to issue arrest warrants for Asiri and Qahtani reflects the view that the Saudi authorities won't take formal action against those individuals," a Turkish official told Reuters.
The news comes after American lawmakers in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee condemned the Saudi crown prince, saying there was "zero chance" he had not ordered the journalist's death.
"It is zero chance — zero — that this happened in such an organized fashion without the crown prince," said South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham on Tuesday.
"You have to be willfully blind not to come to the conclusion that this was orchestrated and organized by people under the command of MBS [Mohammed bin Salman]."
Tennessee Senator Bob Corker echoed Graham's comments, saying "We know he ordered it. We know he monitored it."
New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez said that his own belief that the Saudi crown prince was responsible has "only solidified" as more evidence has been presented.
4. IDF RESERVISTS TO FILE COMPLAINT IN HAGUE AGAINST HAMAS, PA

The My Truth organization, established after Operation Protective Edge that includes hundreds of reserve soldiers, aims to tell the world the true story of what is happening in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.
Since its establishment, the organization has brought the voice of reserve soldiers to Israeli citizens, international bodies, and to foreign media to present the real complexity and conflicts soldiers experience in the field.
Following the riots near the Gaza fence and the use of human shields by the terrorist organizations, My Truth decided to move from defense to offense.
"Human Shield is a project that unveils the abuse of the local Palestinian civilian population by the Palestinian terrorist organizations," the organization's website, mytruth.org.il says. "The testimonies in this project bring the story of former combat soldiers and senior members of the Department of Defense who have encountered in their service in blatant human rights and international law violations by the Palestinian terrorism, against Palestinian civilians, mostly children. The documented cases include many elements that reveal the cynical use of the civilian population by the Palestinian side. Although this use is considered a flagrant violation of international law and human rights."
In recent months the organization documented dozens of testimonies from reservists describing human rights violations and use of human shields by terrorist organizations to carry out attacks. The testimonies, most of which are unclassified, were accompanied by close legal counsel, while taking into consideration military censor considerations.

As part of the project, a complaint to the International Court of Justice in the Hague is expected to be filed in the coming weeks, including testimonies of soldiers against Hamas and the Palestinian Authority for systematically violating human rights while harming innocent civilians - Israelis and Palestinians alike.
The complaint will be submitted in cooperation with lawyers from international legal organizations - the International Legal Forum and the Jerusalem Institute of Justice.
A special documentary has recently been published in English and Hebrew including soldiers' testimonies, and is expected to be a central part of the diplomatic and public relations struggle the organization will lead around the world. At the same time, a special site will be launched in two languages where each surfer can be exposed to the true story of the complex reality on the ground.
The incidents presented in the documentary represent a broad pattern of using civilian and humanitarian space for terrorist purposes. Testimonies include cases where ambulances were used to transport weapons and terrorists, rockets launched from kindergartens, firing from schools and mosques, planning attacks on clear civilian areas and Israeli settlements, using women and children as human shields, violating humanitarian cease-fires, and many other testimonies describing firsthand the use of the civilian population by Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
"The events of recent months in Gaza have led us to change our pattern of action," said My Truth Director Avihai Shorashan. "The increasing use by terrorist organizations of the civilian population and children in particular has almost completely disappeared from Israeli media coverage, and is absent from the discourse in other countries around the world. Anyone who reads the testimonies in this report will understand how the double-standard morality cries out to heaven.
"Not only does the international community not condemn the Palestinian organizations, the repeated violations of human rights, and the exploitation of children and the civilian population, but most of those who are attacked and displayed in a negative light are IDF soldiers who defend the citizens of Israel. The time has come for the international community to act out of real moral power and not out of political considerations and interests," Shorashan added.
"The purpose of the testimonies is not only to shock the listener's sense of morality, but to present a flagrant violation of international law," International Legal Forum Director Yifah Segal said in a statement. "These are war crimes and crimes against humanity at the most serious levels. This legal message must be heard before the Court in The Hague. To provide them with the Israeli side, the complex and complete reality, and to give them a sense of identification and perspective that they didn't have the opportunity to get in the past."
Jerusalem Institute of Justice Public Diplomacy Department Director Attorney Uri Morad said that "beyond the perception of the negative and erroneous reality that is being accepted in the world in the Israeli context, the legal arena is the tool through which sanctions can be imposed against Israel, whether in parliaments around the world, or in courts or international bodies, such as the ICC. And so the terrorist organizations evade accountability for their own crimes. The testimonies project reflects the power of civil society organizations in this struggle, and the power of such cooperation as a significant force multiplier."
5. THIS IS HEZBOLLAH'S TERROR TUNNEL

On Tuesday morning, IDF troops exposed a Hezbollah cross-border attack tunnel that infiltrated into Israeli territory in an operational, technological and intelligence operation.
Since the nighttime hours, IDF troops have been operating to expose and thwart cross-border attack tunnels. These efforts will continue as long as necessary.

Israeli security forces have discovered a terrorist tunnel leading into Israeli territory from southern Lebanon.
According to an army spokesperson, the tunnel was discovered Tuesday morning by IDF forces operating along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
The tunnel, apparently built by Hezbollah terrorists, originates in the southern portion of the Lebanese town of Kafr Kela. The tunnel crosses over into Israeli territory, however, and is believed to have been dug for use in an upcoming terror attack on Israeli targets.

"A short while ago, IDF troops located a cross-border attack tunnel in the southern area of Kafr Kela. At this time, the IDF is carrying out an operational and engineering process to neutralize the tunnel," an army spokesperson said Tuesday.
"The tunnel was located as a part of Operation 'Northern Shield' to expose and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels dug by Hezbollah from Lebanon into Israel."
Despite the tunnel's discovery, the IDF said there was no immediate threat to any towns in northern Israel.
"The tunnel infiltrated into Israeli territory and was intended to harm Israeli civilians. The tunnel did not pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities in the surrounding area."
Earlier on Tuesday, the IDF announced that it had launched an operation along the northern border to locate and neutralize cross-border 'terror tunnels' from southern Lebanon built by the Hezbollah terror organization.
"The Hezbollah terror organization, which is responsible for digging the cross-border attack tunnels, continues its activity that is supported and funded by Iran, to establish its terror infrastructure against Israeli civilians," an IDF spokesperson said.

7. 'OPERATION COULD BE PRECURSOR TO WAR'

Israel and the Hezbollah terrorist organization are on the verge of war, according to Professor Moshe Maoz of the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem..
In an interview with Arutz Sheva, Professor Maoz presents the complexity of the relations between Israel and Lebanon and Hezbollah, which makes it difficult to assess the future response to the IDF's engineering operation on the northern border.
"The operation will not improve relations because the two sides are on the verge of war," Maoz said, "Since 2006 there has been a cease-fire and mutual deterrence."
However, he added, we should not forget that "Hezbullah has 120,000 rockets and precision missiles, which requires us to consider whether to attack or not, and the question is whether the exposure of the tunnels, which, of course, is legitimate for Israel, will be interpreted as a provocation."
"They are connected to Iran. They work in cooperation with Iran, and a single incident can have repercussions for the entire region. Therefore, I think that the sides will be more cautious," Maoz said. He recalled Hezbollah's decision to respond to Israeli actions in the past, a decision that they repeat over and over again in order to be considered as defenders of Lebanon.
"They will have to respond. The question of how they will respond, whether with gunfire or not. No one wants to get a response from mutual missile fire because there will be mutual destruction. We will be able to destroy large parts of Lebanon and they will be able to hit the Galilee and further south. I assume that even Nasrallah, who is a religious fanatic, is neither crazy nor stupid, and therefore he is also careful.
"Iran also knows that according to foreign sources, Israel has atomic bombs and we can inflict tremendous damage on them, so they will consider twice whether to attack Israel, unless it is a very extreme case."
However, Prof. Maoz acknowledges that it is possible that the IDF's currentengineering operation is the only response that Israel can take without escalating the situation in the north. "Maybe it will work out."
"The tunnels are as dangerous as the the missiles, and the question is whether timing could have been postponed if publicity could not have been avoided, all of which may be related to political situations, and a serious barrage of missiles could lead to war." he said.
Maoz added that Russia has restricted Israeli activity in Syria, and it is possible that the IDF is turning its activities to the Lebanese arena, where there are no Russians and where it can operate.
As for the impact of the events in the north on Hamas, Maoz said that this does indeed have an effect. "With regard to Hamas, Hezbollah is a model, and Hezbollah is considered a very successful force that succeeded in driving Israel out of Lebanon, and it is also trying to create a Shi'ite axis from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. And there could be a tug of war from the north and the south, which for us is not a good situation, even though the danger from the south is not as grave. "
As for what is expected in the future, Prof. Maoz finds it difficult to assess the events, although he sees their complexity as one that can lead to very different results. "Even in 2006 there was a small operation that developed into a war. It is impossible to assess where things will develop, there were such things in history, in Lebanon as well, and it is impossible to imagine the reactions and their considerations and our responses to their considerations."

On Tuesday morning, IDF troops exposed a Hezbollah cross-border attack tunnel that infiltrated into Israeli territory in an operational, technological and intelligence operation.

Israeli security forces have discovered a terrorist tunnel leading into Israeli territory from southern Lebanon.
According to an army spokesperson, the tunnel was discovered Tuesday morning by IDF forces operating along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
The tunnel, apparently built by Hezbollah terrorists, originates in the southern portion of the Lebanese town of Kafr Kela. The tunnel crosses over into Israeli territory, however, and is believed to have been dug for use in an upcoming terror attack on Israeli targets.

"A short while ago, IDF troops located a cross-border attack tunnel in the southern area of Kafr Kela. At this time, the IDF is carrying out an operational and engineering process to neutralize the tunnel," an army spokesperson said Tuesday.
"The tunnel was located as a part of Operation 'Northern Shield' to expose and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels dug by Hezbollah from Lebanon into Israel."
Despite the tunnel's discovery, the IDF said there was no immediate threat to any towns in northern Israel.
"The tunnel infiltrated into Israeli territory and was intended to harm Israeli civilians. The tunnel did not pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities in the surrounding area."
Earlier on Tuesday, the IDF announced that it had launched an operation along the northern border to locate and neutralize cross-border 'terror tunnels' from southern Lebanon built by the Hezbollah terror organization.
"The Hezbollah terror organization, which is responsible for digging the cross-border attack tunnels, continues its activity that is supported and funded by Iran, to establish its terror infrastructure against Israeli civilians," an IDF spokesperson said.

7. 'OPERATION COULD BE PRECURSOR TO WAR'

Israel and the Hezbollah terrorist organization are on the verge of war, according to Professor Moshe Maoz of the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem..
In an interview with Arutz Sheva, Professor Maoz presents the complexity of the relations between Israel and Lebanon and Hezbollah, which makes it difficult to assess the future response to the IDF's engineering operation on the northern border.
"The operation will not improve relations because the two sides are on the verge of war," Maoz said, "Since 2006 there has been a cease-fire and mutual deterrence."
However, he added, we should not forget that "Hezbullah has 120,000 rockets and precision missiles, which requires us to consider whether to attack or not, and the question is whether the exposure of the tunnels, which, of course, is legitimate for Israel, will be interpreted as a provocation."
"They are connected to Iran. They work in cooperation with Iran, and a single incident can have repercussions for the entire region. Therefore, I think that the sides will be more cautious," Maoz said. He recalled Hezbollah's decision to respond to Israeli actions in the past, a decision that they repeat over and over again in order to be considered as defenders of Lebanon.
"They will have to respond. The question of how they will respond, whether with gunfire or not. No one wants to get a response from mutual missile fire because there will be mutual destruction. We will be able to destroy large parts of Lebanon and they will be able to hit the Galilee and further south. I assume that even Nasrallah, who is a religious fanatic, is neither crazy nor stupid, and therefore he is also careful.
"Iran also knows that according to foreign sources, Israel has atomic bombs and we can inflict tremendous damage on them, so they will consider twice whether to attack Israel, unless it is a very extreme case."
However, Prof. Maoz acknowledges that it is possible that the IDF's currentengineering operation is the only response that Israel can take without escalating the situation in the north. "Maybe it will work out."
"The tunnels are as dangerous as the the missiles, and the question is whether timing could have been postponed if publicity could not have been avoided, all of which may be related to political situations, and a serious barrage of missiles could lead to war." he said.
Maoz added that Russia has restricted Israeli activity in Syria, and it is possible that the IDF is turning its activities to the Lebanese arena, where there are no Russians and where it can operate.
As for the impact of the events in the north on Hamas, Maoz said that this does indeed have an effect. "With regard to Hamas, Hezbollah is a model, and Hezbollah is considered a very successful force that succeeded in driving Israel out of Lebanon, and it is also trying to create a Shi'ite axis from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. And there could be a tug of war from the north and the south, which for us is not a good situation, even though the danger from the south is not as grave. "
As for what is expected in the future, Prof. Maoz finds it difficult to assess the events, although he sees their complexity as one that can lead to very different results. "Even in 2006 there was a small operation that developed into a war. It is impossible to assess where things will develop, there were such things in history, in Lebanon as well, and it is impossible to imagine the reactions and their considerations and our responses to their considerations."

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke out Tuesday afternoon on the ongoing IDF operation along the Israel-Lebanon frontier, following the discovery of a cross-border terror tunnel originating in a south Lebanese village and leading into Israeli territory.
"This morning, the IDF launched Operation Northern Shield, with the goal of uncovering and neutralizing terror tunnels from Lebanon," tweeted Netanyahu.
"We are proud of the officers and soldiers of the IDF for their complex operations and operational successes already in the initial stages of the operation. Anyone who tries to harm the State of Israel will pay a heavy price."
"We are acting with determination and responsibility in all sectors simultaneously. We will continue with other actions, overt and covert, in order to ensure Israel's security."

3. 'QUIET IN THE SOUTH MADE CURRENT OPERATION POSSIBLE'

MK Yoav Kish (Likud), chairman of the Knesset's Internal Affairs Committee, drew in retrospect a connection between Netanyahu's decision not to take forceful action against Hamas in Gaza and Operation Northern Shield launched today against terror tunnels along the northern border.
"Years of preparations culminate in one morning," Kish said of Northern Shield, calling the operation "An important and strategic move by the IDF that can be carried out in the light of the quiet in the southern sector. I appreciate the prime minister and the Israeli cabinet for political and security responsibility and intelligence. The legitimate frustration caused by Israel's restraint in the face of Hamas fire is taking a turn."
Kish also added, "This is a significant process by the IDF in the northern region that not only includes all the engineering complexity, but operational preparation for a possible escalation with Hezbollah. The IDF is not looking for an escalation, but we must prepare for such a scenario," he said.
"About two weeks ago, the cabinet, which knew in advance about preparations for the operation to thwart the tunnels in the north, faced a difficult decision - whether or not to respond with a strong military strike against the Hamas aggression. It is clear to everyone that a tough military move against Hamas could have led to regional deterioration and confrontation in the north as well, and this when the tunnel threat was not thwarted. "

In light of this situation, it's clear to me that Naftali Bennett must not have resigned, and it's good that he did not do so."

Arutz Sheva sat down for a talk at the conference of the Israeli American Council with Bal Harbour, Florida Mayor Gabriel Groisman, a leading activist against the BDS movement.
Groisman discussed Airbnb's recent decision to boycott Jewish-owned homes in Judea and Samaria, noting that the move shows how far the BDS movement has come in its ability to influence major companies like Airbnb. At the same time, he noted, the move created an "opportunity" to take action, due to its "plain discrimination" in violation not only of "BDS laws," but also of "plain civil rights laws around the United States."
Groisman emphasized that both statements made by political leaders and legal action help make a difference in fighting the Airbnb decision. On the one hand, "statements coming out of governors' and attorney generals' offices" questioning whether their states would invest their pension funds in Airbnb are effective in pressing the company to question whether its actions were worthwhile. On the other hand, he said that "lawsuits are very important, as well."
"These laws are on the books for a reason. It's not often that you see corporate anti-Semitism like this, and this is an opportunity to put the laws to the test and to create precedent so that other companies know not to get swayed by these BDS activists."

The IDF launched Operation "Northern Shield" overnight Monday to thwart and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels dug by the Hezbollah terror organization from Lebanon into Israel, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit announced.
Since 2014, a special joint Taskforce of the Intelligence Directorate and the Northern Command has been leading the operational, technological and intelligence efforts on the tunnel issue in the North. The team developed vast abilities and knowledge on Hezbollah's attack tunnel project.
This IDF operation is led by the Northern Command, in cooperation with the Intelligence Branch, the Combat Engineering Corps and the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Infrastructure. The purpose of this operation is to thwart and neutralize the cross-border attack tunnels within Israeli territory.
Over the last few years and as a part of the effort against this threat, the IDF has been implementing a unique defensive plan along the northern border, including the construction of a defensive wall, the "Defensive Obstacle Project", creating cliffs and clearing vegetation. The aim of this defensive plan is to prevent the enemy from fulfilling his offensive plan and abilities.
For a number of years, the IDF General Staff has been leading this effort, which recently reached the necessary operational conditions. The Commander of the Northern Command, Major General Yoel Strick, is the commander of this operation, in which significant forces are participating.
"The digging of the cross-border attack tunnels that the IDF has discovered, before the attack tunnels became operational and posed an imminent threat to the safety of Israeli civilians, constitutes a flagrant and severe violation of Israeli sovereignty. In addition, they serve as additional proof of the terror organization Hezbollah's disregard of UN resolutions – first and foremost UNSCR 1701. These Hezbollah activities are conducted from the villages of southern Lebanon while harming Lebanon and jeopardizing its civilians in order to establish its terror infrastructure," said the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.
"The Hezbollah terror organization, which is responsible for digging the cross-border attack tunnels, continues its activity that is supported and funded by Iran, to establish its terror infrastructure against Israeli civilians."
The statement noted that the IDF has enhanced its presence and readiness in the Northern Command and is prepared for various scenarios. A number of areas adjacent to the security fence in the north of Israel have been declared a closed military zone. There are no special instructions for residents of the north. Heads of local authorities have been updated, and the IDF will continue to maintain contact with them.

The IDF issued a clear message Tuesday to Hezbollah and Lebanese soldiers, according to which anyone who approaches the terror tunnels that were dug is endangering his life.

IDF Spokesperson Ronen Manelis told Hadashot news agency that "What we are seeing is an operation we have been preparing for a long time with a very long battle procedure being conducted by Northern Command. The idea is to expose the tunnels and neutralize them before they are an immediate threat to the residents of the north" .
"We are currently at one focal point at Metula, but it will expand in the coming days and hours along the fence. In the coming hours and days we will reveal things that were found during the operation."

Colonel Manelis responded to the claims made by residents of the north that tunnels have been dug in recent years. "I can say that every complaint that came up in the north was checked and ruled out. Even when the tunnel picture was revealed, I do not think there was necessarily a correlation between the places where noises were heard and the tunnels. We relate seriously to every complaint from residents."
The IDF spokesman explained why the engineering operation has been kept secret until now. "In the past year, what guided us was to launch the operation by surprise. The surprise with which we catch the Hezbollah terror organization and the Lebanese government was the required achievement, and therefore we did not talk about the threat."
"We are calling for full routine. We have been in contact with the heads of local authorities since last night. The IDF is here with reinforced forces and we know how to deal with every event as it develops," Manelis said.
7. ZILBER SHOWS UP, BENNETT LEAVES

Minister of Education and Chairman of the Jewish Home Naftali Bennett left the cabinet meeting this morning, Sunday, to protest the presence of Deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber.
The ministers of the Jewish Home promised that they would not take part in the meetings in which Zilber participated in the wake of her political statements against the Law of Legal Advisers promoted by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and Culture Minister Miri Regev's Law of Loyalty in Culture.
"I declare that if Zilber isn't fired, as long as she arrives at government meetings we will leave and not participate in the meeting while she is there," Bennett said in an interview last month with Reshet Bet.
"Her role is to provide legal advice, not to educate us. She suffers from megalomania and it's clear that her words are political. Let her resign and run for politics if she wants to. She's done advising us," the Jewish Home Chairman said.
Bennett's decision to boycott meetings in which Zilber is present was made after Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit chose to protect Zilber and not prevent her from participating in the discussions as requested by the justice minister.
The outcry over Zilber was triggered when she chose to deviate from the legal and constitutional issues during a discussion by the Education Committee on the Law of Loyalty in Culture, and made a political speech that aroused the wrath of Justice Minister Shaked and other political officials.
Among other things, Zilber said, "The face of the country has changed. These days are not simple, and they bring with them not only new laws, but also new words: governance, loyalty, overriding. A confrontational discourse that wounds the common social fabric, labels and tags - who is for us and who is against us."
"And if there is someone who is loyal, then is there someone else who is a traitor? A fifth column? Bring us obedient legal advisers, castrated artists, a restrained media, a disciplined, educated nation whose thought is uniform," she added.

Arutz Sheva spoke with Israel's UN Ambassador, Danny Danon, at the Israeli-American Council (IAC) conference in Miami.
The conversation came ahead of the vote in the UN on the US resolution condemning Hamas for its rocket attacks on Israel. Danon, who spoke at the IAC conference on Saturday night, said that the vote is "a historic opportunity" for the world to come together and condemn Hamas' terrorism.
"In the last few years, Ambassador [Nikki] Haley and myself believe that we should be on the offense. We shouldn't be defending ourselves all the time," Danon told Arutz Sheva. "The fact that we put a resolution into the General Assembly condemning Hamas as a terrorist organization is something remarkable, it's something new, and I hope we get the votes."
"The Palestinians, the very same people who fight with Hamas, now come to the UN to defend Hamas. This is absurd. The Palestinian Authority's representative in the UN is the biggest defender of Hamas, a terrorist organization who threw Fatah activists from the rooftops in Gaza a few years ago. It's insane, but I believe we will get the majority. We will have more and more countries condemning Hamas. It will be history if we make it happen."
Asked how anyone can justify voting against a proposal to condemn a terrorist organization such as Hamas, Danon replied, "In the UN anything can happen. For many years, they got used to passing resolutions only against Israel. I hope that this time they will be joining a moral decision. It's a terrorist organization. Hamas is holding the bodies of [IDF soldiers] Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin. We expect those countries to do the right thing."
He praised Ambassador Haley, who will be stepping down from her position soon. "She is a terrific ally, she is a friend of Israel, I'm sure we'll be seeing her coming back and supporting Israel also in the future, and I know that we will continue to work with the new ambassador. The relationship between the US and Israel is very strong, so I'm confident about the support that we will continue to get in the halls of the UN."
The IAC conference "is a very important initiative. In Israel we need friends, so to see so many people coming together to speak about Israel, to stand with Israel – we are grateful for that. I want to take this opportunity to wish all Israelis, all the Jews around the world Chag Hanukkah Sameach," he concluded.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke out Tuesday afternoon on the ongoing IDF operation along the Israel-Lebanon frontier, following the discovery of a cross-border terror tunnel originating in a south Lebanese village and leading into Israeli territory.
"This morning, the IDF launched Operation Northern Shield, with the goal of uncovering and neutralizing terror tunnels from Lebanon," tweeted Netanyahu.
"We are proud of the officers and soldiers of the IDF for their complex operations and operational successes already in the initial stages of the operation. Anyone who tries to harm the State of Israel will pay a heavy price."
"We are acting with determination and responsibility in all sectors simultaneously. We will continue with other actions, overt and covert, in order to ensure Israel's security."
Earlier on Tuesday, the IDF announced that it had launched an operation along the northern border to locate and neutralize cross-border 'terror tunnels' from southern Lebanon built by the Hezbollah terror organization.
"The Hezbollah terror organization, which is responsible for digging the cross-border attack tunnels, continues its activity that is supported and funded by Iran, to establish its terror infrastructure against Israeli civilians," an IDF spokesperson said.
As part of Operation Northern Shield, IDF forces discovered a terror tunnel leading from a village in southern Lebanon, across the Israel-Lebanon frontier, and into Israeli territory.
"A short while ago, IDF troops located a cross-border attack tunnel in the southern area of Kafr Kela. At this time, the IDF is carrying out an operational and engineering process to neutralize the tunnel," an army spokesperson said Tuesday.

3. 'QUIET IN THE SOUTH MADE CURRENT OPERATION POSSIBLE'

MK Yoav Kish (Likud), chairman of the Knesset's Internal Affairs Committee, drew in retrospect a connection between Netanyahu's decision not to take forceful action against Hamas in Gaza and Operation Northern Shield launched today against terror tunnels along the northern border.
"Years of preparations culminate in one morning," Kish said of Northern Shield, calling the operation "An important and strategic move by the IDF that can be carried out in the light of the quiet in the southern sector. I appreciate the prime minister and the Israeli cabinet for political and security responsibility and intelligence. The legitimate frustration caused by Israel's restraint in the face of Hamas fire is taking a turn."
Kish also added, "This is a significant process by the IDF in the northern region that not only includes all the engineering complexity, but operational preparation for a possible escalation with Hezbollah. The IDF is not looking for an escalation, but we must prepare for such a scenario," he said.
"About two weeks ago, the cabinet, which knew in advance about preparations for the operation to thwart the tunnels in the north, faced a difficult decision - whether or not to respond with a strong military strike against the Hamas aggression. It is clear to everyone that a tough military move against Hamas could have led to regional deterioration and confrontation in the north as well, and this when the tunnel threat was not thwarted. "
"The considerations ultimately lead to a decision of restraint to allow the operation to thwart the tunnels in the north. I very much appreciate the leadership of the prime minister and the cabinet for the balanced decision they made despite the harsh public criticism, even though the prime minister's decision at the time seemed hesitant and weak."
MK Kish, a combat pilot in the reserves, criticized Avigdor Liberman's decision to resign as defense minister, which he asserted "could have dragged Israel into elections and, consequently, postponed the timetable for the operation in the north. To me, Liberman failed in the required responsibility from a defense minister. In light of this situation, it's clear to me that Naftali Bennett must not have resigned, and it's good that he did not do so."

Arutz Sheva sat down for a talk at the conference of the Israeli American Council with Bal Harbour, Florida Mayor Gabriel Groisman, a leading activist against the BDS movement.
Groisman discussed Airbnb's recent decision to boycott Jewish-owned homes in Judea and Samaria, noting that the move shows how far the BDS movement has come in its ability to influence major companies like Airbnb. At the same time, he noted, the move created an "opportunity" to take action, due to its "plain discrimination" in violation not only of "BDS laws," but also of "plain civil rights laws around the United States."
Groisman emphasized that both statements made by political leaders and legal action help make a difference in fighting the Airbnb decision. On the one hand, "statements coming out of governors' and attorney generals' offices" questioning whether their states would invest their pension funds in Airbnb are effective in pressing the company to question whether its actions were worthwhile. On the other hand, he said that "lawsuits are very important, as well."
"These laws are on the books for a reason. It's not often that you see corporate anti-Semitism like this, and this is an opportunity to put the laws to the test and to create precedent so that other companies know not to get swayed by these BDS activists."

The IDF launched Operation "Northern Shield" overnight Monday to thwart and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels dug by the Hezbollah terror organization from Lebanon into Israel, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit announced.
Since 2014, a special joint Taskforce of the Intelligence Directorate and the Northern Command has been leading the operational, technological and intelligence efforts on the tunnel issue in the North. The team developed vast abilities and knowledge on Hezbollah's attack tunnel project.
This IDF operation is led by the Northern Command, in cooperation with the Intelligence Branch, the Combat Engineering Corps and the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Infrastructure. The purpose of this operation is to thwart and neutralize the cross-border attack tunnels within Israeli territory.
Over the last few years and as a part of the effort against this threat, the IDF has been implementing a unique defensive plan along the northern border, including the construction of a defensive wall, the "Defensive Obstacle Project", creating cliffs and clearing vegetation. The aim of this defensive plan is to prevent the enemy from fulfilling his offensive plan and abilities.
For a number of years, the IDF General Staff has been leading this effort, which recently reached the necessary operational conditions. The Commander of the Northern Command, Major General Yoel Strick, is the commander of this operation, in which significant forces are participating.
"The digging of the cross-border attack tunnels that the IDF has discovered, before the attack tunnels became operational and posed an imminent threat to the safety of Israeli civilians, constitutes a flagrant and severe violation of Israeli sovereignty. In addition, they serve as additional proof of the terror organization Hezbollah's disregard of UN resolutions – first and foremost UNSCR 1701. These Hezbollah activities are conducted from the villages of southern Lebanon while harming Lebanon and jeopardizing its civilians in order to establish its terror infrastructure," said the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.
"The Hezbollah terror organization, which is responsible for digging the cross-border attack tunnels, continues its activity that is supported and funded by Iran, to establish its terror infrastructure against Israeli civilians."
The statement noted that the IDF has enhanced its presence and readiness in the Northern Command and is prepared for various scenarios. A number of areas adjacent to the security fence in the north of Israel have been declared a closed military zone. There are no special instructions for residents of the north. Heads of local authorities have been updated, and the IDF will continue to maintain contact with them.

The IDF issued a clear message Tuesday to Hezbollah and Lebanese soldiers, according to which anyone who approaches the terror tunnels that were dug is endangering his life.
IDF Spokesperson Avichay Adraee warned on Twitter against approaching the tunnel route that had been dug into Israel: "Your life is in danger, you have been warned."

IDF Spokesperson Ronen Manelis told Hadashot news agency that "What we are seeing is an operation we have been preparing for a long time with a very long battle procedure being conducted by Northern Command. The idea is to expose the tunnels and neutralize them before they are an immediate threat to the residents of the north" .
"We are currently at one focal point at Metula, but it will expand in the coming days and hours along the fence. In the coming hours and days we will reveal things that were found during the operation."
The IDF spokesman clarified: "The operation will be along the entire fence, from Metula to the sea - at all points where our technology and operational capabilities point to the Hezbollah tunnel project."
Colonel Manelis responded to the claims made by residents of the north that tunnels have been dug in recent years. "I can say that every complaint that came up in the north was checked and ruled out. Even when the tunnel picture was revealed, I do not think there was necessarily a correlation between the places where noises were heard and the tunnels. We relate seriously to every complaint from residents."
The IDF spokesman explained why the engineering operation has been kept secret until now. "In the past year, what guided us was to launch the operation by surprise. The surprise with which we catch the Hezbollah terror organization and the Lebanese government was the required achievement, and therefore we did not talk about the threat."
"We are calling for full routine. We have been in contact with the heads of local authorities since last night. The IDF is here with reinforced forces and we know how to deal with every event as it develops," Manelis said.
7. ZILBER SHOWS UP, BENNETT LEAVES

Minister of Education and Chairman of the Jewish Home Naftali Bennett left the cabinet meeting this morning, Sunday, to protest the presence of Deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber.
The ministers of the Jewish Home promised that they would not take part in the meetings in which Zilber participated in the wake of her political statements against the Law of Legal Advisers promoted by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and Culture Minister Miri Regev's Law of Loyalty in Culture.
"I declare that if Zilber isn't fired, as long as she arrives at government meetings we will leave and not participate in the meeting while she is there," Bennett said in an interview last month with Reshet Bet.
"Her role is to provide legal advice, not to educate us. She suffers from megalomania and it's clear that her words are political. Let her resign and run for politics if she wants to. She's done advising us," the Jewish Home Chairman said.
Bennett's decision to boycott meetings in which Zilber is present was made after Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit chose to protect Zilber and not prevent her from participating in the discussions as requested by the justice minister.
The outcry over Zilber was triggered when she chose to deviate from the legal and constitutional issues during a discussion by the Education Committee on the Law of Loyalty in Culture, and made a political speech that aroused the wrath of Justice Minister Shaked and other political officials.
Among other things, Zilber said, "The face of the country has changed. These days are not simple, and they bring with them not only new laws, but also new words: governance, loyalty, overriding. A confrontational discourse that wounds the common social fabric, labels and tags - who is for us and who is against us."
"And if there is someone who is loyal, then is there someone else who is a traitor? A fifth column? Bring us obedient legal advisers, castrated artists, a restrained media, a disciplined, educated nation whose thought is uniform," she added.
8. 'THE PA REPRESENTATIVE IN THE UN IS HAMAS' BIGGEST DEFENDER'

Arutz Sheva spoke with Israel's UN Ambassador, Danny Danon, at the Israeli-American Council (IAC) conference in Miami.
The conversation came ahead of the vote in the UN on the US resolution condemning Hamas for its rocket attacks on Israel. Danon, who spoke at the IAC conference on Saturday night, said that the vote is "a historic opportunity" for the world to come together and condemn Hamas' terrorism.
"In the last few years, Ambassador [Nikki] Haley and myself believe that we should be on the offense. We shouldn't be defending ourselves all the time," Danon told Arutz Sheva. "The fact that we put a resolution into the General Assembly condemning Hamas as a terrorist organization is something remarkable, it's something new, and I hope we get the votes."
"The Palestinians, the very same people who fight with Hamas, now come to the UN to defend Hamas. This is absurd. The Palestinian Authority's representative in the UN is the biggest defender of Hamas, a terrorist organization who threw Fatah activists from the rooftops in Gaza a few years ago. It's insane, but I believe we will get the majority. We will have more and more countries condemning Hamas. It will be history if we make it happen."
Asked how anyone can justify voting against a proposal to condemn a terrorist organization such as Hamas, Danon replied, "In the UN anything can happen. For many years, they got used to passing resolutions only against Israel. I hope that this time they will be joining a moral decision. It's a terrorist organization. Hamas is holding the bodies of [IDF soldiers] Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin. We expect those countries to do the right thing."
He praised Ambassador Haley, who will be stepping down from her position soon. "She is a terrific ally, she is a friend of Israel, I'm sure we'll be seeing her coming back and supporting Israel also in the future, and I know that we will continue to work with the new ambassador. The relationship between the US and Israel is very strong, so I'm confident about the support that we will continue to get in the halls of the UN."
The IAC conference "is a very important initiative. In Israel we need friends, so to see so many people coming together to speak about Israel, to stand with Israel – we are grateful for that. I want to take this opportunity to wish all Israelis, all the Jews around the world Chag Hanukkah Sameach," he concluded.

2. SYNAGOGUE IN BASEL, SWITZERLAND VANDALIZED

A Chabad Lubavitch synagogue in Basel, Switzerland was vandalized.
A window of the synagogue was smashed in with a hammer, the BZ Basel news website reported.
The damage was discovered on Saturday morning as worshipers gathered for the Shabbat morning service.
"I've been living in Basel for 16 years. It's the first time that I have been worried about myself and my family," Rabbi Zalmen Wishedski of Chabad Lubavitch told BZ Basel.
There currently are no suspects in the incident, the Basel public prosecutor's office told the news website.
The incident comes after a kosher butcher shop in Basel was vandalized four times in one month in what local Jews have condemned as an anti-Semitic campaign of intimidation.
The rabbi said that Chabad will not cancel its public Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.
"We will still be holding the Hanukkah celebration in the market square. The attackers want to intimidate us, but they will not succeed," he told BZ Basel.
3. COALITION BOYCOTTS KNESSET 'NO CONFIDENCE' VOTE

The Knesset plenum held a discussion on the no-confidence motions presented by the Zionist Union, the Joint Arab List, Yesh Atid, and Meretz parties on the subject of "the government's failure to deal with the murder of women."
The coalition chose to boycott the discussion of the no-confidence motions for the third time in a row. In light of this, all the proposals were not accepted because they require the support of 61 MKs.
MK Michal Rozin of Meretz said, "I call on employers and employers to allow the strike without taking a day off at the expense of the strikers. Give a hand to this protest, for a just and secure society. It is not a women's struggle alone and there should be no struggle of an opposition coalition, but absurdly the chairs of the coalition members, those who are willing to sacrifice the entire population of women in Israel only to keep them, are now empty."
MK Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid) argued that "the government is running away from responsibility, and the murder of women has also led to political camps. 4. SOROS UNIVERSITY EXPELLED FROM HUNGARY

The Central European University, founded 25 years ago in Budapest by left-wing billionaire George Soros, announced today that it is forced to move to Vienna after the government would not allow it to continue operating on Hungarian soil.
This is the first time a university has been forced to leave the territory of an European Union member state.
The Washington Post claimed this was the best university in Hungary, and one of the best in the world.
The university explained that Viktor Orban's government refused to accept a proposed agreement that would have allowed the university to continue accepting new students on its central campus in Budapest.
"The arbitrary expulsion of a well-known university is a gross violation of academic freedom, a dark day for Europe, and a dark day for Hungary," the university said.
US Ambassador to Hungary David Kornstein was in contact with the Hungarian government to prevent the University from closing but failed in his efforts.

5. 4 HISTORIC MEMORIAL SITES TO VISIT IN JERUSALEM

Some travelers might be attracted to the bright lights and beautiful beaches of the modern city of Tel-Aviv. But it is in Jerusalem that one can see a collection of historical sites with significance to the three major religions present in the city: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. There are also many sites that serve as reminders of Israel's modern history and the Jewish fight for the State of Israel.
Among Jerusalem's holy Jewish and Muslim historic sites are the Temple Mount, the Western Wall and the City of David, for example. Christian tourists visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Via Dolorosa as well.
If you really want to understand the country's modern history and experience, you should take a flight to Israel and visit these four memorials:
Ammunition Hill
Ammunition Hill is the site of some of the 1967 Six Day War's bloodiest fighting. Known as "Givat Hatachmoshet" in Hebrew, it is located between the modern neighborhoods of Ramat Eshkol and French Hill.
Thirty-seven Israeli paratroopers were killed on Ammunition hill as they worked to oust entrenched Jordanian legionnaires in order to link central Jerusalem with the Israeli enclave on Mount Scopus. Despite the casualties, the paratroopers were successful, and they played a key role in Israel's victory to reunite Jerusalem.
British War Cemetery
More than 2,500 British soldiers are buried in the British War Cemetery, located on Mount Scopus, between the Regency hotel and Hadassah Medical Center.
The cemetery is a memorial to the British men who were killed in a fierce fight with the Ottoman Empire over the city of Jerusalem between 1916 and 1917. It also serves as a memorial to the 3,300 soldiers who died during this campaign but never received a proper burial.
Mount Herzl
Mount Herzl is the burial site for some of Israel and the Jewish people's most important influencers - Zionists, politicians and other people who helped develop and fight for the State of Israel. It is named for Binyamin Ze'ev (Theodor) Herzl, the visionary of the Jewish state.
Mount Herzl also serves as the Israel Defense Forces' official military cemetery; soldiers who died in the line of duty are buried on Mount Herzl. In the cemetery there is the "Victims of Acts of Terror Memorial," the main memorial for all victims of terrorism in Israel from 1851 until today. This memorial was established in 1997.
Yad Vashem
Just up the road from Mount Herzl is Yad Vashem: The World Holocaust Remembrance Center. This national Holocaust museum and memorial captures the raw and painful history of the Jews during World War II. The museum experience includes testimonies, diaries, artifacts and other documentation. The story of the Holocaust is told from a Jewish lens but in a universal language.

7. GAZA SENTENCES 6 PEOPLE TO HANG FOR 'COLLABORATING' WITH ISRAEL

A military court in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip on Monday sentenced six people, including a woman, to
death by hanging for "collaborating" with Israel, authorities said.
In total 14 people were sentenced for "collaborating with the occupation," with six sentenced to be hanged, the interior ministry in Gaza said.
The rulings come three weeks after eight people were killed when an alleged Israeli army cell in Gaza was uncovered, leading to a vicious fire fight.
Hamas fired hundreds of rockets at Israel during and after the battle, with the Jewish state striking dozens of targets in Gaza before a ceasefire agreement.
The six sentenced to death Monday were not related to the November 11 flareup.
The woman, named only as Amal, was sentenced in absentia and is alleged to have encouraged her nephew in Gaza to collaborate with Israeli intelligence.
Iyad al-Bozum, the spokesman of the interior ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza, hailed the rulings.
"Collaborators must realize the (Israeli) occupation will not be able to protect them," he told a news conference.
Hamas and its allies have fought three wars with Israel since 2008.
8. REPORT: US-LED COALITION ATTACKS IN SYRIA

Syrian media reported on Sunday evening that the US-led international coalition launched air strikes against positions of the Syrian army.
According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, the coalition forces fired several rockets at army positions in al-Ghurab mountain south of al-Sekhneh.
There were no reports of injuries or deaths, with the report saying the attack caused only material damage.
On Thursday, Syria accused Israel of carrying out air strikes on Kisweh, south of Damascus. The air strikes reportedly targeted warehouses and headquarters of the Iranian militias in the area.
Two weeks ago, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that coalition air strikes killed 43 people, mostly civilians, in the Abu Husn village of the Deir Ezzor province near the Iraqi border.
The coalition said in response it struck only "legitimate" militant targets, and that another 10 airstrikes in the area were not carried out by US-led forces.
The US-led coalition has been backing a Kurdish-Arab alliance called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighting to expel the jihadists from the pocket around Abu Husn.
ISIS overran large swathes of Syria and neighboring Iraq in 2014, proclaiming a "caliphate" in land it controlled.
Since then, several military offensives, including those backed by the US-led coalition, have since seen ISIS lose most areas it once controlled, including the loss of their de facto capital Raqqa in Syria..

2. SYNAGOGUE IN BASEL, SWITZERLAND VANDALIZED

A Chabad Lubavitch synagogue in Basel, Switzerland was vandalized.
A window of the synagogue was smashed in with a hammer, the BZ Basel news website reported.
The damage was discovered on Saturday morning as worshipers gathered for the Shabbat morning service.
"I've been living in Basel for 16 years. It's the first time that I have been worried about myself and my family," Rabbi Zalmen Wishedski of Chabad Lubavitch told BZ Basel.
There currently are no suspects in the incident, the Basel public prosecutor's office told the news website.
The incident comes after a kosher butcher shop in Basel was vandalized four times in one month in what local Jews have condemned as an anti-Semitic campaign of intimidation.
The rabbi said that Chabad will not cancel its public Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.
"We will still be holding the Hanukkah celebration in the market square. The attackers want to intimidate us, but they will not succeed," he told BZ Basel.
3. COALITION BOYCOTTS KNESSET 'NO CONFIDENCE' VOTE

The Knesset plenum held a discussion on the no-confidence motions presented by the Zionist Union, the Joint Arab List, Yesh Atid, and Meretz parties on the subject of "the government's failure to deal with the murder of women."
The coalition chose to boycott the discussion of the no-confidence motions for the third time in a row. In light of this, all the proposals were not accepted because they require the support of 61 MKs.
MK Michal Rozin of Meretz said, "I call on employers and employers to allow the strike without taking a day off at the expense of the strikers. Give a hand to this protest, for a just and secure society. It is not a women's struggle alone and there should be no struggle of an opposition coalition, but absurdly the chairs of the coalition members, those who are willing to sacrifice the entire population of women in Israel only to keep them, are now empty."
MK Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid) argued that "the government is running away from responsibility, and the murder of women has also led to political camps. The blood of the 24 murdered women cries out for the government's helplessness. The next murder will be on all coalition members absent from the plenum today. The government chooses to close its eyes and in this regard any attempt to prevent the murder of the next woman."
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Haim Katz began to reply on behalf of the government, but noticed that the Knesset members were gathering for a selfie photo with the words "state of emergency" written on their hands.
"Some of those who spoke here did not believe what they were saying, but since the government's answer did not interest them and they only came to protest and not to listen, thank you very much," Katz said.
4. SOROS UNIVERSITY EXPELLED FROM HUNGARY

The Central European University, founded 25 years ago in Budapest by left-wing billionaire George Soros, announced today that it is forced to move to Vienna after the government would not allow it to continue operating on Hungarian soil.
This is the first time a university has been forced to leave the territory of an European Union member state.
The Washington Post claimed this was the best university in Hungary, and one of the best in the world.
The university explained that Viktor Orban's government refused to accept a proposed agreement that would have allowed the university to continue accepting new students on its central campus in Budapest.
"The arbitrary expulsion of a well-known university is a gross violation of academic freedom, a dark day for Europe, and a dark day for Hungary," the university said.
US Ambassador to Hungary David Kornstein was in contact with the Hungarian government to prevent the University from closing but failed in his efforts.

5. 4 HISTORIC MEMORIAL SITES TO VISIT IN JERUSALEM

Some travelers might be attracted to the bright lights and beautiful beaches of the modern city of Tel-Aviv. But it is in Jerusalem that one can see a collection of historical sites with significance to the three major religions present in the city: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. There are also many sites that serve as reminders of Israel's modern history and the Jewish fight for the State of Israel.
Among Jerusalem's holy Jewish and Muslim historic sites are the Temple Mount, the Western Wall and the City of David, for example. Christian tourists visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Via Dolorosa as well.
If you really want to understand the country's modern history and experience, you should take a flight to Israel and visit these four memorials:
Ammunition Hill
Ammunition Hill is the site of some of the 1967 Six Day War's bloodiest fighting. Known as "Givat Hatachmoshet" in Hebrew, it is located between the modern neighborhoods of Ramat Eshkol and French Hill.
Thirty-seven Israeli paratroopers were killed on Ammunition hill as they worked to oust entrenched Jordanian legionnaires in order to link central Jerusalem with the Israeli enclave on Mount Scopus. Despite the casualties, the paratroopers were successful, and they played a key role in Israel's victory to reunite Jerusalem.
British War Cemetery
More than 2,500 British soldiers are buried in the British War Cemetery, located on Mount Scopus, between the Regency hotel and Hadassah Medical Center.
The cemetery is a memorial to the British men who were killed in a fierce fight with the Ottoman Empire over the city of Jerusalem between 1916 and 1917. It also serves as a memorial to the 3,300 soldiers who died during this campaign but never received a proper burial.
Mount Herzl
Mount Herzl is the burial site for some of Israel and the Jewish people's most important influencers - Zionists, politicians and other people who helped develop and fight for the State of Israel. It is named for Binyamin Ze'ev (Theodor) Herzl, the visionary of the Jewish state.
Mount Herzl also serves as the Israel Defense Forces' official military cemetery; soldiers who died in the line of duty are buried on Mount Herzl. In the cemetery there is the "Victims of Acts of Terror Memorial," the main memorial for all victims of terrorism in Israel from 1851 until today. This memorial was established in 1997.
Yad Vashem
Just up the road from Mount Herzl is Yad Vashem: The World Holocaust Remembrance Center. This national Holocaust museum and memorial captures the raw and painful history of the Jews during World War II. The museum experience includes testimonies, diaries, artifacts and other documentation. The story of the Holocaust is told from a Jewish lens but in a universal language.

6. ZILBER SHOWS UP, BENNETT LEAVES

Minister of Education and Chairman of the Jewish Home Naftali Bennett left the cabinet meeting this morning, Sunday, to protest the presence of Deputy Attorney General Dina Zilber.
The ministers of the Jewish Home promised that they would not take part in the meetings in which Zilber participated in the wake of her political statements against the Law of Legal Advisers promoted by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and Culture Minister Miri Regev's Law of Loyalty in Culture.
"I declare that if Zilber isn't fired, as long as she arrives at government meetings we will leave and not participate in the meeting while she is there," Bennett said in an interview last month with Reshet Bet.
"Her role is to provide legal advice, not to educate us. She suffers from megalomania and it's clear that her words are political. Let her resign and run for politics if she wants to. She's done advising us," the Jewish Home Chairman said.
Bennett's decision to boycott meetings in which Zilber is present was made after Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit chose to protect Zilber and not prevent her from participating in the discussions as requested by the justice minister.
The outcry over Zilber was triggered when she chose to deviate from the legal and constitutional issues during a discussion by the Education Committee on the Law of Loyalty in Culture, and made a political speech that aroused the wrath of Justice Minister Shaked and other political officials.
Among other things, Zilber said, "The face of the country has changed. These days are not simple, and they bring with them not only new laws, but also new words: governance, loyalty, overriding. A confrontational discourse that wounds the common social fabric, labels and tags - who is for us and who is against us."
"And if there is someone who is loyal, then is there someone else who is a traitor? A fifth column? Bring us obedient legal advisers, castrated artists, a restrained media, a disciplined, educated nation whose thought is uniform," she added.
7. GAZA SENTENCES 6 PEOPLE TO HANG FOR 'COLLABORATING' WITH ISRAEL

A military court in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip on Monday sentenced six people, including a woman, to
death by hanging for "collaborating" with Israel, authorities said.
In total 14 people were sentenced for "collaborating with the occupation," with six sentenced to be hanged, the interior ministry in Gaza said.
The rulings come three weeks after eight people were killed when an alleged Israeli army cell in Gaza was uncovered, leading to a vicious fire fight.
Hamas fired hundreds of rockets at Israel during and after the battle, with the Jewish state striking dozens of targets in Gaza before a ceasefire agreement.
The six sentenced to death Monday were not related to the November 11 flareup.
The woman, named only as Amal, was sentenced in absentia and is alleged to have encouraged her nephew in Gaza to collaborate with Israeli intelligence.
Iyad al-Bozum, the spokesman of the interior ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza, hailed the rulings.
"Collaborators must realize the (Israeli) occupation will not be able to protect them," he told a news conference.
Hamas and its allies have fought three wars with Israel since 2008.
8. REPORT: US-LED COALITION ATTACKS IN SYRIA

Syrian media reported on Sunday evening that the US-led international coalition launched air strikes against positions of the Syrian army.
According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, the coalition forces fired several rockets at army positions in al-Ghurab mountain south of al-Sekhneh.
There were no reports of injuries or deaths, with the report saying the attack caused only material damage.
On Thursday, Syria accused Israel of carrying out air strikes on Kisweh, south of Damascus. The air strikes reportedly targeted warehouses and headquarters of the Iranian militias in the area.
Two weeks ago, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that coalition air strikes killed 43 people, mostly civilians, in the Abu Husn village of the Deir Ezzor province near the Iraqi border.
The coalition said in response it struck only "legitimate" militant targets, and that another 10 airstrikes in the area were not carried out by US-led forces.
The US-led coalition has been backing a Kurdish-Arab alliance called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighting to expel the jihadists from the pocket around Abu Husn.
ISIS overran large swathes of Syria and neighboring Iraq in 2014, proclaiming a "caliphate" in land it controlled.
Since then, several military offensives, including those backed by the US-led coalition, have since seen ISIS lose most areas it once controlled, including the loss of their de facto capital Raqqa in Syria..
